This cut is alright, I’m not that excited about it but I do like the lil accent on there. Maybe that’s my bias but I think mainstream music tries to sensor West Indian vernacular a lil too much…atleast only when its a genuine West Indian, Dream, Akon even Kells and Jay-Z can do it but when its a true West Indian people say…ohh I don’t like that accent.

The truth about this song is that it is boring and she sounds like her usual self (terrible vocals and all), but like all of her songs it will get a lot of play on the radio and with the heavy rotation it will grow on ppl and it will be a hit. We all no the girl can’t sing and the only reason why she is relevant is because she has an international fan base and her haters still help her by talking about her and keeping her relevant on blogs like this one. So I’ve added my 2 cents and am moving on. If ppl want to hear real singers yall know you can’t hear it on the mainstream stations now so search for it yourselves. Stop complaining about the music industry putting out REAL music because all they are concerned with is making money. So if you want to speak to them stop supporting artists who can’t sing!

Please people do not come on here equating record sales with singing ability because that is not a relevant point at all! All of these women except for RiRi succeeded because of their shows. If you have been to any one of their concerts you know you’re going to get your moneys worth along with some if not a lot of lip syncing. What RiRi has that these other women have are hot, catchy songs that get heavy rotation. You take away Ri Ri’s hot songs and fab wardrobe you would be left to hear the voice. Y’all cannot tell me that when you first hear one of her songs your ears have to adjust to her voice for a minute because it sounds so bad and you have a wtf moment but after you hear it a few more times you sing along to it. You get into the music and the words and then you’re good. I can’t say I have had this reaction to her 2 new songs that have been released from the new album. But we’ll see. I try to give everybody a chance.

You can’t equate singing ability with album sales. Jennifer Hudson, Jasmine Sullivan can sing most entertainers under the table, but will never have the success because they don’t have sex appeal. Plain and simple. Sex sells, the more Rhianna shows her tail and have top producers behind her, she will be successful. Kinda sad, but true. Hey but you cant blame her, blame the people who buy the albums just because of the gimmick. I like her voice on some song. This song is okay. NYC Gal – Like you I appreciate all types of music. I agree that we need more Rock/pop girls. The Black community definitely needs to appreciate and support the Black artists that perform other genres besides rap and r&b.

Grace Jones was her own person not manufactured like its obvious Rhianna has been with this new transition that’s gotten her buzz.

I also agree that in order for an artist to succeed there has to be a distinguising style. But where I disagree is that style should win over substance and a quality voice. Prime example for me is Lady Gaga – good voice, definitely her own style, she actually does interviews and states her OWN opinions and she writes her own stuff.

You can knock the R&B divas but at the end of the day they are still singing songs that when you hear them, you can feel the emotion behind them. Yes they can sound a little monotonous at times but you know whenever you’re going through something you can put on one of their songs and you can be taken away and the songs are timeless. With the pop/dance music you put them on now they get you hyped but years from now probably only ppl now will appreciate, if they even remember it.

Ri Ri always had style even when I saw that youtube video where she was singing “Hero”. The only problem with Ri Ri is she doesn’t write her own music and depends on good song writers and producers.

For me, as long as the singer got the attitude to match the style they are rocking who cares what is manufactured or not. Just as long as the music is good. That’s all that matters in the end.

FYI Grace Jones was never accepted by black folks. I doubt she was ever on Soul Train (I will check Youtube). I heard Grace was called a man and people laughed at her music. Now all of a sudden she’s an icon for black folks? GTFOH!

I disagree with you on the above. Remember Lauryn Hill and before her Brandy? Well, those girls were everywhere and they were both darker girls.

Lauryn Hill had alot of style and her dreads was the biz. Lauryn music was hot and she was everywhere. The girl was on Harper’s Baazar and I think she was the first hip hop artist to do that.

Jennifer is not ugly. I think she’s attractive but she makes the most unattractive faces when she’s photographed and when she’s on TV.

The problem with Jennifer is she can’t dress at all. She had this same problem on AI and Simon got on her case for it.

I don’t think Jennifer wants to play the music business game. Some singers are like that.
