Hey , im live in St louis and its as much violence here as Chi, but some never gets reported. when have you heard about crime in MO, but believe me its here and even some Chicago folks live here! or have moved here~! i would live there but unfortunetly i cant move right now, but hey there is more of Chicago than the south side~!!

I’m from Chicago, lived there all my life except college years and I recently moved. Whoever says Chicago is not bad is in a very sheltered world. It has become so depressing. Chicago is just a super grimy city, and no one can be trusted. Everybody is out for self. I have lost so many family members and friends to the streets it is ridiculous. It’s normal to hear stories like this at home and you almost get used to it. Nothing surprises me anymore. Like rose by…. said, street gangs don’t run Chi, politicians do. They are basically allowing people to kill each other because they are trying to move all the black people out to the suburbs. Now that hey are tired of commuting from the burbs, they have rebuilt the city, and made it too expensive to live for many blacks. The ones that refuse to move, they are going to let kill each other off. What I have noticed is that when we (blacks) do become successful, we try to move away from the problem(I am guilty of this myself). That isn’t going to solve anything, because one day we will come in contact with the same people we tried to move away from . We really need to try to fix it, and it’s up to us to do it. We cannot count on politicians or anyone else to do it for us.

I am from Chicago and I think the problem is their needs to be more police control.. Chicago isn’t that bad, the problem is it is more publicized because it is such a major city. Been in chicago all my life i stay in the south suburbs (CAL CITY)and it has gotten worse and worse out here, now there iare gun fights right in front of my apartment. And it doesnt matter what time anywhere from 3 in the afternoon till 4 in the morning. Living in chicago its second nature to peep out whats going on around you 24/7 and try not to get caught sleepin, a word of advice for anybody visiting is to stay alert and dont make it too obvious cause word on the street is everybody is tryin to be a stick up man and they will get you anywhere gas station, parking lot of the club, stop light store,sittin in your car parked for more than 5 minutes etc… no that

Brook~~ i will stand up for you.. CHI Stand UP!! Some of my best adventures were in Chicago and just for the warning, I know a lot of folks who have been very notorius and have moved to another State, they still have ties in Chitown but dont think they dont live in your State, even in my State~!!

my nephew was trick a treating with his friends ( hes 8) and some older dudes chased them down and stole their candy and ask them did they have any money they said no and one dude said let the little kids go and that was in east St louis. no more trick or treating for him!! he came home crying and scared, his mom said fu-k trick or treating last time~!!

Well actually I am from NYC and we were nominated for 2012…we didn’t get it either. No Olympian was trying to be on NYC Public Transportation to get to a sporting event!

It is just amazing how you still don’t hear celebs/natiational personalities/politicians such as Oprah, Obama, Jesse Jackson, R-Kelly, Jennifer Hudson and others that are all from Chicago not speak out against this deplorable and debilitating violence that has grip this city.

Chicago Chicago…there aint no way in hell i’d be moving to that city. I know that they say crime is everywhere and it certainly is indeed, but Chicago has and probably always will be one of the worst in the U.S. I often wonder what would become of all those who are in poverty if they were given a chance at wealth. What would they do with it and would crime decrease. I can tell you that if everyone had a peice of the American dream crime would definatley decrease. That will never be the case though. Even as far back as biblical times, you had the peasants and thieves and the royalty and powerful. I wish this young mother a speedy recovery and to whom ever done this, i pray that they find it in them to change. While away from their gang counterparts an in the solitude of themselves i hope they are able to truly reflect on their actions. What a damn shame….

Now a days, we can’t work on “OUR” communities, parents aren’t involved and the ones that need guidance don’t get it from home. People get mad if you see their child messing up and speak to the about it…They fly way off the handle…SO, I keep to myself (except for family) and don;t bother with everyone’s kids…People are always looking for a lawsuit…That’s just the way it is..Then the parents don’t take any responsbility for their kids… Otherwise, why do all these horrible things continue to happen?? If you can’t feed them and aren’t going to take care of them, not going to pay FULL attentuon to your child, then maybe you shouldn’t have children…But I digress, as long as mine make it through, all this garbage, I’m fine…

I just live in this world, I didn’t make the rules.. And trying to help someone can put you in harm’s way…

The point of my comment is that we all need to do better. I did not suggest you were from any of these places. But, it is true that ANYTIME something violent happens in Chicago it is national news. I feel this is a way for the media to try to discredit our President. Believe me these stories will be used against him in the next campaign. I was really just trying to make a point that we need to try to help our youth.

But as you said, as selfish as it may seem, sometimes you can’t try to help because you may be put in harms way.

I don’t know what to do. I try to stay out of certain areas of the city. As much as it pains me to say it, you can’t go back. I grew up in the ‘hood but my PARENTS did not allow me to become a victim of the ‘hood mentatlity. I grew up and moved to a better part of the city, as did my parents, and you can’t force me to live there now. I have children and I don’t want them to become the nex story on CNN.

LOL. So as smart as you think you are, you’d know Rio has WAY more crime and way more TYPES of crime than Chicago does. Nonetheless, Chicago is just like anyplace else in the nation. We have the spotlight now because of the First Family and the media ATTEMPTING to bring them down from any and all angles. Don’t buy into the hype clown..

When I first moved to Chicagoland most people said to me that the Westside Stood to be the most uncouthed in the area But everytime I read or here anything crazy it most certainly involves the Southside.
