Random Ridiculousness: Drunk Driver Calls 911 on Herself

A Wisconsin woman was driving while faded, so she decided to call 911:
Mary Strey, 49, of Granton was driving home from the bar around 11:28 p.m. on Saturday night when she called 911 to report a drunk driver. When the dispatcher asked Strey if she was following the drunk driver, she told police she was the drunk driver. As she continued driving towards her home the dispatcher asked Mary to stop her vehicle on the side of the road and turn on her vehicle’s flashers, which she did. Police found her parked on the side of the road. Police gave Strey a field sobriety test. According to the criminal complaint Strey’s speech was slurred, she stumbled, was swaying back and forth and could not perform the tests. She was arrested on charges of drunk driving, first offense. Officers say Strey told them she had started drinking earlier in the day and had had seven or eight brandy and Cokes at different bars in Neilsville. At the time of her arrest, officers say her blood alcohol level was 0.17.

Dispatch: You behind them?
Mary Strey: No, I am them.
Dispatch: You am them?
Mary Strey: Yes, I am them.
Dispatch: Okay, so you want to call and report you’re driving drunk?
Mary Strey: Yes.
Dispatch: Are you still driving right now? You want to stop driving before you get in an accident.
Mary Strey: Yes, I will stop.
Dispatch: You want to stop right now.
Mary Strey: Yes, I will stop right now.
SMH at “I am them” and “You am them?” What the hell???? At least this lady had enough ’sense’ to call for help instead of continuing to drive and potentially hurting some innocent bystanders.

Well at least she didn’t hurt herself or anyone else. Drunk driving is a serious problem.

GOOD. I wish MORE drunk drivers would do this, and maybe we would have less fatalities from drunk-driving accidents.

I applaud her for wanting to do the right thing but did she really need a 911 operator to tell her to stop driving? Just pull over, *****! Better yet, don’t call 911 call a cab…it’s a lot cheaper than a DUI conviction.

Don’t get why she didn’t just pull her own self over. Why must we call the cops for that. She knew she was faded before she even got in the car. This was just a hot mess.

1st offense DWI is not a crime in Wisconsin, it’s a traffic offense. Loose your liscense for 6mo, that’s about it. We drink alot here…
