@Tired- ‘Racism pretty much started from your people’ and ‘no white person should comment on someone else being racist’ – wtf? Racism is racism, no matter which side it’s coming from. You attribute anything about a person to their skin color- that’s racism. Don’t think you’re entitled to talk sh*t about any white person you meet, because ‘their people started racism’, like you’re a damn third grader talking about ‘well they started it.’ You can’t hold every white person responsible for something that another person of their skin color did, like all white people owe you something. That’s not only racist, but damn ignorant.

This story wouldn’t even be news if she had been black…No way someone should be charged for something like this. The child was crazy from the get-go and if that is all it took for her to commit suicide, she wasn’t stable anyway. Anyone could have said anything to her and she would have killed herself. That lady is guilty of being childish, but that is about it. And pls. all you white people give me a break with all your ‘racist’ comments…no white person on this earth should comment on someone else being racist. Not one of you can say that you haven’t used a derogatory comment..Racism pretty much started from your people..That is all…..

Why should the burden of political correctness always be on black folks? Go to AOL, YAHOO or any other forum and EVERYTIME a black celeb is mentioned be it OJ or Obama you BETTER believe the n-word is going to be used. And if a black person commits a crime, MY GOD, all of their racist stereotypes about black people and their inferior, criminal prone azzes are coming up big time.

But it’s boo hoo time when blacks make any negative comments about other races. Whites, Honorary Whites (the Asians) and Wannabewhites (the Hispanics) can mock us all day long and its OKAY. But God forbid we do the same. I guess we supposed to love every damn body on the planet – but our goddayum selves!

Her actions read like a lesbian pedophile because only a lesbian pedophile would create a myspace page to pretend to be a teenaged boy in order to court “get at” a tween-aged girl.

I hope that’s just how the prosecution portrays this evil woman and I hope they lock her under the jail and register her for a lifetime in the sex offender registry because she is a danger to minors.

While I understand Marquis legal perspective, I think this is one precedent that needs to be set. This woman must be held accountable for her abuse against a child. Abuse she joked about because most subversive and passive abusers (ie. slanderers, internet bullies, malicious gossipers, stalkers, identity thieves) are confidence in their assaults being under the radar of the law. Their crimes have devastating outcomes but their crimes are written off with the cowardly and passive aggressive excuse that “they didn’t do anything “illegal”.

Set the precedent. An adult using the internet to lure, harass, defame, slander, libel, verbally abuse, threaten or to in any way cause harm or intentional distress to a minor, said adult should be fined and jailed.

If grown educated and employed women “fall in love” online and go as far as to quit their jobs uproot their kids and relocate for men they met online and know for only weeks, then a teenage girl is particularly vulnerable.

So imagine the vulnerability of a bullied and isolated teenaged girl desperate for a friend and flattered by attention from a “teenage boy”. And then to be “rejected” in such an unwarranted and cruel way, and it’s all a hoax by her bullies, was life-altering to this child.

I also don’t believe she was mentally ill or depressed. She was being tormented and it was easier for her parents to medicate her to cope than to value their child enough to move away.

What parents of middle class means remain where their child is being abused?

From a legal standpoint, the prosecution will be facing an uphill battle in trying this case. They’re using the computer sexual predator statute to try this woman. Chances are, the defense will file a motion to dismiss, if the judge does’nt throw it out of court. It was wrong what this woman did, but there’s no way the prosecution will be able to prove that this girls’ suicide was directly linked to internet taunting. If y’all think about it rationally, the mere thought that anyone can be charged and then imprisioned for cyber-bullying which leads to suicide would set a dangerous legal precedent that can lead to compromising an already compromised Freedom of Speech – That plus the fact, the prosecution will also have to prove this girl didn’t already have a pre-existing mental illness…And if she did, her parents should be held liable for allowing her access to social chatroom sites without proper monitoring, and, or supervision. For the sake of common sense, I hope this case will be dismissed early – If not, this can lead to a slippery slope of knee-jerk (frivolous) lawsuits.

I’m glad that woman got indicted but I don’t think she should get all 20years. On the same note the mother is not completely innocent for she is to take much of the blame also. She knew her daughter was under depression and on medication. As a parent why is your 13yr old on myspace. At 13 you can’t get an account unless you lie about your age. To get an adult account you have to be like 16 I think and 14 for a child account. The 13yr old should not have had a computer in her room and her mom should have had parental guidance settings on the computer which takes less than 5 minutes to set up. This prevents any type of child predators from reaching your child. If she had been on top of her parenting skills this may have been prevented who knows. Plus didn’t her mother know she had an online relationship with the 16yr “boy” Even if it wasn’t the lady it could have been a rapist trying to get her address. SMH parents these days.
