I love Chris Brown. He is right he apologized and learned from it and regrets that it happened. He wants to move past it and he should. I am a fan. His private affairs is not my concern. Artists are not role models they are “people” who have been blessed to share their gift. These parents should be a role model. People need to stop bashing artists for being human and making mistakes. To be truthfully honest nothing about this interview appeared sincere and it’s unfortunate because Chris Brown failed to realize that by speaking out on the domestic violence incident that took place between him and Rihanna he is initially speaking on behalf of all AA men who abuse their wives and girlfriends. So when someone like me watches this interview they gather two things, one, AA men view domestic violence in a light matter, two they failed to live up to the problem they cause and be sincere. Chris Brown sat in that interview and basically mocked everyone who was a victim of domestic violence, is arrogance is intolerable and I advice the black women to control their hormones and not support a men who abused another women especially a women whom he loved. Why are AA men so quick to accept men who abuse them and others, there are plenty of R&B singers out there, no need to support female beater.

the issue of Domestic Violence is bigger than just those who have experienced. The question is in spite of all these decades of people saying boys shouldn’t hit girls..it’s still happening in spite of the people in jail for DV, etc. Just on the idea that severe punishment alone will curtail the numbers is a fallacy. The CDC released a study on reciporcal domestic violence and people should read it.
It’s more important that Chris-Rihanna’s relationship is not mirrored in young people’s lives and what really need to search ourselves on what we need to do to prevent that?
We need to start a new generation of dialogue that says “domestic violence, no matter the gender of the perpetrator, is wrong”. Domestic violence is not a gender war..it’s a power/control war. There is rabid number of DV in same sex relationships, so *****ody can say it’s the man’s fault if both are men.
In reading into Rihanna’s comment about both being equally dangerous to each other that means neither one know how to manage their emotions at times and if we continue to ignore this issue it will happen again. When I worked in DV shelter, I knew woman who left their batterer and then started seeing another man and then he became violent too. Without proper therapy, a victim can find him/herself in another abusive relationship.
I am a domestic violence SURVIVOR. I have been counseling survivors for 13 years now. I say “survivor” because we refuse to let a woman or man that has been apart of domestic violence view themselves as victims. When being a spokeperson for domestic violence survivors we tend to not put focus on the violence part, but how a person overcame the situation.
I can honestly say that Rihanna is not the voice for a domestic violence survivor. You can’t be that voice and be respected by other survivors if you are too busy being a victim. First, Chris B. abused her and now she is letting herself be abuse by the media by playing to what she feels is expected from her according to the media. That’s called the victim syndrome. We teach that once you have left the relationship that it’s time for personal responsibility. You have to take back your life and own up to what it is about yourself that attracts these kinds of relationships, why you didn’t leave the very first time you were abused, and what you need to change about yourself that will prevent you from becoming a victim again. If a person doesn’t do these things then he/she will stay a victim throughout every relationship he/she has with anyone in their lifetime. With that said, both of these individuals should be looked upon as needing help and they both should stay away from the media. It’s not helping anyone in the same situation that they were in. How can you help another victim leave a bad situation and become a survivor when you are to busy being a victim yourselves.
It’s also wise to remember that just as a victim of domestic violence can redeem his/herself by taking control of their power, gaining self responsibility, and acknowledging what they should or shouldn’t have did in the relationship which will lead them to becoming a survivor……well an abuser can also redeem his/herself by doing to same thing. We as people just need to stop being so judgemental of them both and give support as needed. In this case, they both need our support.

I have been saying this to people for the longest. I’m glad Rihanna left for herself but now get some real therapy. We can be very disappointed at what Chris Brown did but people are not filthy rags to be discarded. Everyone desires to experience a loving relationship that can include trust, safety, consideration, etc. Face it Chris will meet other woman and to write him off as a hopeless case is dangerous to anyone he may meet in the future as well as himself. If you have God’s agape love in your heart, you would want him to rehabilitate himself and move on with his life, even if you think he isn’t deserving of his musical career.
