I hate men like him who pretend to care so much about the black community, but marry a white woman.

But anyway,duh! This has been obvious for years (to me). NCAA,NFL,NBA,etc…These black boys, who come from nothing, get recruited by a PWI,they pump his head up, all the white girls love him, all the white boys wanna be him,he and his family gets free stuff on the low,….but as soon as he tears his ACL or has an injury where he can’t play anymore, he gets thrown back to the hood. He quit school,because those same supporters don’t tell him how important an education is (besides playing sports).
They also drop him, if he makes a makes a mistake and reverts back to “hood mentality” while in school,like get into a fight,caught selling drugs or doing drugs,etc…or let a white girl say she was raped by him…

Sports,for some reason,seems to be a new form of slavery. Of course the slaves get paid big though.

The answer IS NOT TO PAY THESE KIDS A FEW BUCKS AND THEN SHIP THEM BACK TO THE HOOD AS DUMB AS THEY WERE WHEN THEY LEFT. The answer is to keep it real. Most of these guys can barely read upon entering college. Therefore, require all athletes who need remedial courses in the basics ie Reading and MATH to take cl*****es until they get up to speed and also some type of intense communication cl***** for 4 years. Secondly, they should be given six years to graduate. I think that’s fair.

Ed is just looking for shakedown fee.If the system as it sits is exploitative…it also exploits young poor White athletes.Yes White kids play college football & basketball for the entertainment of us all too.Does Ed care about them? Would Ed sue the Black parents who refuse to pressure their otherwise smart children to care more about academics? If you as a Black athlete really care more about academics…the option to transfer to another school exists.The message would be gotten rather quickly by the elite programs.To be clear-Ed brings up valid points.These are all points that have been raised for DECADES now.Worth noting is that there are plenty of kids-Black and White-who have come up through this current system & GRADUATED WITH DEGREES.

exactly!!! is that tuition not worth anything? do you know how many kids would kill to go to those schools for free? I think the parent’s intentions for their kids are to go to school and get an education while playing basketball but their kids are only focused on playing the sport. And why do i feel like he’s only referring to basketball or football? yes we may dominate in those sports, but that’s just two out of god knows how many sports they have in the NCAA.

Please, then go to college with an academic scholarship instead of athletic. Or only accept a scholarship to the school that’s going to make sure you’re educated. We(black men) have got to stop blaming others(whites) when we have options. You mean to tell me you’re in college and complaining?

the main problem is that not that these young black athletes are not being paid. The problem is that they are bringing in money to white institutions, which in turn make there institutions more “prestigious” than our HBCUs. Just imagine if Bowie State, Howard, Morgan, Hampton, etc. were getting the money these white universities are getting. That is the real problem. Blacks being robbed by the white man once again, and we don’t even realize it…. SMH

To make this a black issue is short-sighted. This is an issue of using kids to make your school millions and not fairly compensating them for it.

Do I think athletes should be paid in college? No. But what I do think is that there should be some sort of subsidy or stipend given to those who are on teams that rake in millions from Bowl Games and the money made for NCAA Championship appearances as well as money made from retail sales of jerseys and their like-ness in video games.

Let’s be real though. The money is being made off Football and Basketball. And what people don’t realize is that there is a steered direction that the money goes to. Most big-time college programs athletic departments are not actually a part of the University but it’s own separate entity. Why?? Because it allows the school to pay the high salaries of coaches and other expenses. No university would be able to actually afford to pay both Urban Meyer and Billy Donovan (Florida’s Head Football and Basketball Coaches) millions a year. Especially “state” schools. So, the money for shoe contracts and part of the money from Bowl and Tournament appearances go to the separate athletic department.

Kentucky’s Basketball team years ago had it’s own separate high-quality condo-dorm building just for the basketball players. But that was squashed because the University got pressure that they were giving the basketball players preferential treatment although back then UK Basketball was bringing millions from t.v., shoe contracts, tournament appearances, and alumni and boosters….

Sports, Music, Fashion, Vocabulary…you know there’s a monument in memory of those stolen, only to be slaves, in the country of Benin that states “Port of No Return”. But they did return didnt they? in a big way. African American/Caribbean culture has taken over the world. WAKE UP, STAND UP, LOOK AROUND AT WHATS REALLY REAL.

Um 50 years ago there weren’t many Black student athletes in the NCAA. Have you ever heard of the Ernie Davis story? The first Black heisman winner from Syracuse. There were only 3 blacks onthe team including him. That was in the late 50s early 60s. Get your facts right before posting this garbage.
