Man forget Bill Cosby. Before he starts critizing anyone in the black community he should have started with his own family. A friend of mine went to Spelman and she said one of his daughter got coked up every day. It seems as though they are just living off his money while him and his wife have Ph.D.’s. All of his kids should be over 40. You never hear of any of his kids donating money or anything. So while him and Dr. Poussaint are philosophizing on TV every 5 minutes, it must not have worked because his own kids (5) have not done anything for the community that I’ve seen.

I totally disagree with Russell Simmons, his blog about Bill Cosby. To me the people who truly affect and mold the younger generation is their parents. But not only the parents but the communities where the children reside. I feel that sometimes when a person tries to be overly critical of another individual, that the message that that person is trying to deliver gets lost. In the case of Bill Cosby, he is not being critical of anyone. Actually, he is making children more aware. Aware to the fact of whatever situation that they are in. You can rise out of it(poverty, housing,and family situation). He even tries to reach them by using hip hop as a catalyst to get his message through. He is actually trying to help the youth. He is not down grading them at all nor the coummunities in which they are born into. He is not making excuses for them as to why they are at this level but telling them, you can do better. To not except things that they can change.

Russell Simmons, I truly feel that your message was heart felt, but there are different techniques that can be used in order to reach kids. Just because you don’t agree with the message or the messenger does not mean it will not have a positive effect. We all have a responsibility to help children because they are our future and most precious resource. But what we don’t need is any more excuses.

Also, I am way younger than you and am proud to be apart of the older generation.

There is a difference between hip hop and rap. Rap generates more money and it’s also negative stereotypical displays of ignorance in the black community. Anyone can rap.

Hip hop is positive. Nobody really makes it that big in hip hop because of the positivity. So it doesn’t generate much fanfare. Not everybody can be a hip hop artist.

Russell makes money off the dumbing down of the black community. Plain and simple.

Do not be deceived!

russell mad because he in part is part of the problem and helped creat a culture that spiraled out of control into such negativity for the community.

Hip Hop artist are greedy and not conscious at all.

Look at Rap before it became the profit machine it is today, look at Nu(Neo)Soul, Undergroud Hip hop, the Blues and Jazz. Yes, some parts of our culture but we have always been true to our art, music and dance. So yes, at time I’m very disappointed in the state of our culture, but will always be proud of the history behind our arts.
