DC Sniper, John Allen Muhammad to Be Executed Today; Ex-Wives & Family Speak Out

John Allen Muhammad will be executed today:
His shooting spree left at least 10 dead and millions terrified of bullets coming from an unseen sniper.But Mildred Muhammad believes she was the ultimate target of her ex-husband, John Allen Muhammad, the man dubbed the “D.C. Sniper.” And for some time, Muhammad said she felt extreme guilt for the victims that were gunned down in grocery store parking lots and gas stations. The youngest was a 13-year-old boy who was shot while walking to his Maryland school. Muhammad spoke about the guilt she felt after the killing spree on CNN’s “Larry King Live” on Monday night, the day before her ex-husband was scheduled to be executed.
“I felt that way initially because I had done everything I knew how to do to bring attention to how dangerous he was to me,” Muhammad said. “I had no idea his anger would extend beyond me, to include all people in his killings.” John Muhammad, the mastermind behind the Washington-area sniper attacks of 2002, is scheduled to die by lethal injection Tuesday evening at a state prison near Jarratt, Virginia. Prosecutors say John Muhammad intended the killings to provide a smokescreen to cover up his real goal — killing his ex-wife Mildred and gaining custody of his three children. Muhammad said she divorced John Muhammad because of abuse and has not visited him since he was in prison.”I feel that all of my efforts, all of my energy is to help my children through this emotional turmoil that they are going through,” said Muhammad. “I don’t have an emotional attachment to John.” John Muhammad’s other ex-wife, Carol Williams, also talked to King Monday. Williams, John Muhammad’s first wife, said she plans to visit him in prison with their son Tuesday before the execution.

Wow! The punishment came quicker than I anti*****ted. It usually takes decades before the actual execution takes place due to the appeals system. I wonder if this is a federal case, hence the faster timeline for the execution. Definitely a rough time for all involved.

This was a scary time for us in DC. No joke about dancing around while pumping gas, haul *****ing in and out of stores and home. Everybody thought this cat was white, and the white van. SURPRISE! Although many died at his hands and this punk shot a kid, killing him does not bring one of those people back that he killed…I think if you left him alive, away from population to spend many years imprisioned would be better punishment. He gets the out by dying…game over.

Yep! I have family in the DC area, and have heard many stories of them ducking down to pump gas and busting a move to get to their cars from their job/house during that time.

I do remember people moving/dancing around at the pumps, also the children would wear two book bags to and from school,, one in the front one in the back.. It was such a crazy time, I still cant go past that Home Depot in Falls Church with out thinking of the shoting that took place there, as I use to live right down the street at that time..

Daxn I was pregnant with my daughter when this was happening. I am from NYC and trust we were all zig zagging. You know how many white delivery vans are in the city? None of us knew where he was going to strike next.
I just think this is a sad situation. I am still confused as to why that teenaged boy was with him though. Who the hell is he to him? Where was his mother.
The ***** is Crazy. His wife the lady pictured above lives in my mother’s neighborhood and he was riding up and down that main street and I could have been killed. He shot and killed two people that worked at the Italian restaurant right at the beginning of the neighborhood. Those days were crazy. I went to work and back home nothing extra. That man had the entire DMV on lock down and I never want to re-live those days. I can’t wait for them to kill that ***** and I wanted his side piece to go down as well be they gave that ***** life. Me just thinking that the ***** could escape makes me nerves. If you lived through what the people that live in the DMV went through you would feel the same way. There was a DC sniper movie on TV some years ago — Charles S. Dutton starred in it. I didn’t watch it — I was in the DMV when it occurred, and that was enough.
My friends and I were at Love one weekend night when one of the shootings occurred in Virginia. I was even afraid to pump gas outside. It was a terrifying time.
John Muhammad wasnt insane, he was just against the gov’t establishment and went about it the wrong way. In his eyes taking the lives of people to disrupt the flow of commerce was the way to go. He had the whole DMV shook. Now just think if this went on for a year, do you know how much tax payer money the govt would lose?

This case turned a lot of people’s perception of the profile of serial killers on its head. They had an incorrect description of their car and other key details for days.
Where he was convicted had nothing to do with how quick he was executed. He had had opted to continue the appeals process in the beginning he would still be waiting on a date of execution. He refused to appeal the case until he received a date of execution which means he was short.

OK. That make a lot of sense. Timothy McVey, the guy convicted of the Oklahoma City bombing, took the same route and was executed quickly. Of course, Timothy McVey was trying to be a martyr for his cause. I wonder if John Allen Muhammad has a similar reasoning.

But is there a clause that says “Thou shall not kill…….unless your ***** is on death row, if so your screwed.” Just an observation, so much is placed on the Bible, yet we dance around a lot of stuff in it. First my prayers are with all who has been affected by the DC Sniper. It were stated by his doctor after his return from the Gulf War that his brain scan indicated some breaking in the brain, also known for schizophrenia, which were never treated and if left untreated it can cause other underlying mental conditions. Schizophrenia sometimes allows you to hear voices that are not there. Please don’t think that I’m defending his actions, because I’m not. I’m just simply saying what he were diagnosed as having far prior to this deadly attack. No one can say how mental illness may have affected his frame of thought, because without medication it can sometimes lead to these type of situations. Mental illness is real, and it’s nothing to take likely. Had the Military treated him properly after, for the condition then perhaps we wouldn’t be reading about this nor would the families would have suffered any lost. It is sad that our men/women can go fight in other countries, and when they return home they receive little to no help at all, simply just calling it PTSD. Most that apply for their benefits only receives 40% – 60% of disability coverage. Again, this is by no means of me giving him an excuse. However, as a person who comes from a strong long line of military family members, and some who has gone to war repeatedly knows all to well how this affects their emotional state of mind. The military is a Government agency that trains soldiers how to kill, and when they’re released back into society it is almost always our own country civilians who pay the price, one way or the other. Again, my heart felt prayers are with all who has been affected by this, including the DC Sniper and the young man who looked up to him like a father figure. No one wins in these type of situations, no one. God bless them all!!!
P.S. TO BE CLEAR, HE USED TO PARK HIS CAR DOWN THE STREET FROM HER HOUSE BETWEEN SHOOTING OTHER RANDOM VICTIMS. HE WAS WATCHING HER SO HE COULD FIND A TIME AND PLACE TO SHOOT HER SO IT WOULD OBVIOUSLY LOOK RANDOM. THE PROBLEM IS, SHE NEVER REALLY LEFT HER HOME.

I was pregnant during this time and having many issues with the pregnancy. The nurses kept my TV on TNT and I was watching everything but the news and then my baby was born and died. This was October 3-October 6, 2002. I was mourning and honestly missed the whole damn thing. Before that I was in nursing school full time and working full time, so I missed the news daily. I was in the hospital for a month before the birth. I of course heard about it, but am shocked at all of the details coming out that I didn’t know. I was wrapped up in my own life. Oh well…he will pay with his life tonight.

death penalty is not a tool of deterrence. it’s a tool of retribution. even though they carry out the executions in correctional facilities, executions do not correct the general public. If anything-there have been studies to show that certain states with high execution rates also have high violent crime rates.
also, it is expensive to keep inmates on death row-millions of dollars goes into the appeals process, and that takes years. That same money to imprison a guy for life for such an offense like murder is cheaper.
also, some people on death row are innocent-convicted solely on the testimony of witnesses-but no DNA.

Does that make him guilty? Yes.

i am from Va i remember when they thought he was at a local gas station on Broad street. That was scary cuz they were looking for a white van with a white dude in it. I also remember selecting very carefully where and when i pumped my gas. And i would also rush in and out of stores, to and from my car. He had no criteia for his victims, so no one was safe. He killed a black boy in Maryland as the boy was about to get on his school bus. That was a real crazy time for us in the D/M/V!!
I remember this.. It was terrible. The ride on bus driver that was sniped was killed near my house. Then I remember for school we had to walk to our cl*****es that were outside in the portables and they ended up having to move our cl*****es into the cafeteria. Times were scary..
