They are a sweet family. But this is what I want to know. How come people that have mixed kids don’t like to comb or cut the kids hair? And from the looks of that baby’s hair, you can tell it isn’t being combed. SMH!! Lil boys always look so sweet and handsome with a haircut!

On a side note…Mixed babies can be very cute. HOWEVER, I have seen just as many ugly mixed kids as I have cute ones. Either kids are cute or they are not but I don’t think being mixed gives them any more of a chance of being cute. Usually it guarentees more “managable” hair but nothing more!

Why did I recommend some grease or something cause it looked too dry. His mother said that in the town where they live, it was hard to find that since they don’t have a lot of blacks there…I would use Vaseline, olive oil, something. I think that sometimes these white moms don’t really know what to do with this type of hair. So glad that Brad and Angelina got turned on to Carol’s Daughter for their Ethiopia baby.

As a mixed race person myself (White mom & Black dad)I can tell you that many White mothers don’t instinctively know how to care for their mixed children’s hair. Re: the dry hair… white folks tend to have oily hair, so little thought is given to hair oil. It took my grandmother to teach her how to properly care for our hair. My Nana would cut his hair then oil it at least once a week and brush it daily.

Off topic, has anyone else noticed that in all the pictures of Henry that we’ve seen he never shows any expression? I hope he’s not autistic.

What I wanted to say was a better grade of hair but alot of people like to get their panties in a bunch when you use the term “good hair”. I know some are going to come at me for saying so but it’s okay because deep down, everyone knows what i’m talking about and what I mean. Southern Belle most Black AMERICAN women perm their hair. We have to remember that there are more Black women on the planet besides the American ones. I don’t like the term good hair because it insinuates that there is BAD hair and that BAD hair is supposed to be unpermed Black tightly coiled (aka NAPPY) hair. @11:18…no worries, we’re cool. LOL, I keep telling y’all, I say what I have to say and keep it moving, no time for cyber “grudges”.

@southern, really…how exciting. When I moved from Barbados, I lived in New Rochelle, so sometimes, even I feel like a tourist when I go to the City. So Brooklyn Stands Up or some of these other NYC posters might have great recommendations.

Anyway, definitely check out Sylvia’s restaurant in Harlem (great soul food), and if you’re there during the NBA playoffs/finals and like b-ball, I love the ESPN Zone in Times Square (you’re gonna love Times Square at night) or definitely Jay Z’s 40/40 club. I liked it there, except when I went the unisex bathroom was smelling a bit *****y (probably from drunk guys peeing on the floor).

I’d also look into a Broadway play, if you’re in NYC you’ve gotta do Broadway. I know folks are checking out the Color Purple or Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with Boris Kodjoe, but one of my favorites was The Lion King…I would see that again. It was amazing, the costumes, the music…a great play.

You can take a ferry ride to Ellis Island to tour the Statue of Liberty and also think of going to the Lower East Side to check out Ground Zero where the 9-11 attacks happened. There’s a lot to do, you should have a blast!! Not sure about the hottest clubs, but again, some other posters might have suggestions.

@just sit..thanks for the suggestions. We are actually getting married and I was thinking of NYC as the spot. We are trying to do something quick and very small (just the two of us) and I figured we could just do it while we were there vacationing. I don’t know how easy it is to just pop in and get married but I’m looking into it. But when we go, I’ll make sure to let you know how it went. I’m so excited!

Awww southern, that’s great!! Congrats. I have a co-worker who went to Vegas and did the same thing…now she’s showing pics from her “weddymoon” or whatever she’s calling it.

Not sure about civic ceremonies in NYC, but I’m sure if you Google just that, you’ll find out everything you need to know. Also, I’m sure they’re a tourist website, so you’ll get even more suggestions on things to do, where to stay, etc. LOL, don’t listen to your friends NYC is amazing. There is no city like it…it’s just got it’s own very unique vibe.

@chocs, no problem and if you want to try regular over the counter products since Carols Daughter is pricey, Creme of Nature shampoo is great because it’s soft and has a built in conditioner. You can use a small amount of Sta Sof Fro’s gel…it’s not too sticky/tacky or flaky and softens natural hair really well. Or Luster Silk’s pink hair lotion. Oh, I also use Humectress by Nexxus sometimes. I used it when my hair was permed and even now as a hairdressing. You’ve got to use a small amount though because it might make the hair too dull.

Just sit beat me to the punch because I was going to tell you to make SURE you get to Times Square (preferably at night) it is the Vegas of the East!! You will have fun if going with your fiancee! I think Broadway would be nice and maybe you two could visit the Schomberg(sp) museum as well. If you are trying to shop…the city is your oyster! I am a Brooklyn girl myself but I love visiting Harlem and yakking with the street vendors. I usually buy the real deal unscented yellow african shea butter and Black soaps right off the street, then go to Carol’s Daughter which has a newer shop in Harlem around 125th st. and get the fragrant stuff. Overall you can experience so much cultural diversity and there are pretty decent restaurants EVERYWHERE but get that Junior’s cheesecake that puffy had the band walking over bridge to get! Coming from the South it will be interesting for you and I am SURE you will go back home with plenty to tell the friends and family!

There’s no danger of you impressing anyone, believe that. I would stop lying about your alma mater, though. Howard is a very prestigious institution that is nationally ranked and has produced some of the brightest, most successful African Americans, including the late Thurgood Marshall, Phylicia Rashad, and many other luminaries. If you’re going to “try” to claim it, step your game up because your story, frankly, has far too many holes to hold weight.

The reason why I think most mixed babies hair looks like it is never combed is because most mixed babies the mother is white, therefore she has the smallest clue as to what to do with it. I guess they think it will eventually straighten out by itself.
