At 14yrs old parents must have some decision making authority as a 14 yr old mind is not ready for the things that are out there; R Kelly comes to mind and the TV show how to catch a predator. I raised a beautiful daughter who was not allowed to date until she was 15 and 16 even then it had to be in a group setting, she was allowed to go to parties and out with her girl friends. But the one thing that allowed her these freedoms was her school grades, if they suffered she suffered and from 5th grade through her senior year of HS she maintained an “A” average i.e. never saw a “B or below” and she took all Advancec classes throughout HS. If you set standards and enforce them consistently/fairly, give them freedoms a little at a time as their mind matures and talk with them about life sex openly all will be good. But to leav them their own vices is setting them uop for failure in life and allowing a lazy parent to live their own life. Children are children and should be treated as such until thye show they can take own certain responsibilities. Parenting is a lifelong task it does not end at 18.
