What’s wrong with braids some of you ask?!

The same thing as wearing t-shirts to church. Treat the occasion with some respect. GET A HAIRCUT.

Braids originally were for folks who couldn’t afford haircuts. If “braids” is the best you can do FOR YOUR WEDDING DAY, then obviously you just don’t get it.

Not only that…if you’re going to wear a vest, then you’re supposed to WEAR A TIE! It doesn’t matter if your wedding is on a beach, if you wear a vest and jacket, then you’re supposed to wear a tie. Either be casual or formal, but the in-between stuff just means you’re not knowledgeable about the line between either. The bride is formally dressed, so right there…that’s a cue.

Of course one can do whatever one wants at “their wedding” but it doesn’t make it any less tacky or ignorant in nature. Perfect example of just not knowing any better.

THAT is not the point. The POINT is that they released their photos to Essence magazine, meaning they were looking for publicity and thus leaving them open to opinions about their wedding ceremony. They CHOSE to show it off, i.e. market themselves.

No different than giving an interview, promoting a CD, whatever. When you choose to exist in the public eye, you then open yourselves to critique.

It’s a tacky wedding. That’s separate and distinct from the “beauty” of two people getting married. It’s about having standards and knowing better. If marriage is about respect, honor and sanctity…act accordingly. There’s nothing wrong with treating it with deference to it.

I would like to thank +((((((+ I n t i m a t e m i n g l e. c o m +)))))))+for bringing a very close friend from 17 years ago. I never had the chance to express how I really felt. I had always watched her from afar, but due to Mutual friends it wouldn’t be right, but now we are planning to meet for new years eve. We have exchanged dozens of e-mails and phone calls. She now knows how I felt for her 17 years ago, And our future is as bright as ever.

a lot of people here have a wedding aesthetic that’s based on a white, middle-classed fairytale. their wedding isn’t the one i would have chosen for myself, but if they are happy, i don’t see what the problem is.

Congrats I guess.. Good for them. I jus don’t see y everyone’s trippin on the grooms’ braids and outfit when I think its really the bride that looks hella messy… *shrugs*
