Activist Devin Robinson Calls For Boycott Of Non-Black Owned Beauty Supply Stores

Posted on November 19th, 2009 - By Bossip Staff

Categories: Hip Hop Wired, News, SMH

The plight of a Black woman takes new heights when she takes part in the time old tradition of going to a beauty supply store. Millions of us have the same story of being followed, watched and monitored in the stores often by people who know nothing about us or our fascination with the very product they sell. Continue…

He is crazy if he thinks that is going to happen but, I wish him success. We all know women can’t go without their hair and there is just isn’t a black owned hair supplier and if there are their inventory is horrible. Get it together and we will patronize the African American owned beauty supply store. Do you think we really want to give our money to the Orientals? Come on now if black business had good hair and hair supplies we would be going to them giving them our money. It’s not the consumer’s fault! Handle your business black business owners!

  • aleximaq

I would love to, in fact I have….I just go to Sally’s…it is less of a hassle….

  • MARK RICH

Ni*** Please, aint fittin to happen

  • Aunt Viv

It’s a lofty goal, but one that can happen. I wish him luck. I’ll refer to the directory next time I need some conditioner…

  • http://deleted xX__FxxKinG FanTastiC__Xx

Hey, Idc What Race Is Selling, As Long As It Has That Good Hair Lol.
I Mean If Its Black Owned && It Has The SUpplies I Need Then I Would Go. It Doesn’t Matter To Me I Don’t Think It Should Matter To Anyone Really. If Its Quality The You Supplying I’m Buying. Lol.

  • MSRitaBabie

    That would be good

  • Miss B

Hey, I’m not opposed to it. Wish them the best of luck. I use Sally too and would rather them!!

  • YUCK FOU

MY SENTIMENTS EXACTLY. OF COURSE, YOU’D HAVE BETTER LUCK AT GETTING A CRACK-HEAD TO LEAVE THAT CRACK ALONE!! ALTHOUGH, CLEARLY, A BOYCOTT IS WHAT OUR HAND CALLS FOR AS THESE PEOPLE ARE OUT OF CONTROL…COMPLETELY!!

  • Get Real

We are like 20yrs late with this boycott.

  • Aunt Viv

    @ Nique,

“I spend my money where I see fit. If Im not getting customer service then I take my business elsewhere. Simple.”
    ___________________________________________________
Hey girl! I hear you on this point. It’s deeper than just being Black. I take customer service very seriously too.

  • Lady Architect (Being a Good Girl)

The problem isn’t not wanting to go to a black owned spot, the problem is a lot of black owners feel the need to raise the prices on things when a lot of asian spots don’t. It is the consumers right to shop where they want and a smart consumer will always compare prices and quality then choose from there.

  • I love my husband bo

They say that the hair care industry makes a billions of dollars from the A.A community. I think someone should do something about that? Good for Devin….I wish somebody would do the same with nail shops.

  • resurrected

I saw a special about this and black people are create 60% of the hair industry profit so we do have powers in numbers but any of us are to ignorant to make real change as long as it benefits us for the moment we do not care about the bigger picture… If I ever get some real money in my life I will try my hanb in this industry because people will spend the money…

  • MochaDreams

    @Lady Architect

The reason why the Black-owned stores have higher prices is because they are not getting the same deals from wholesalers that the Asians do. Asians are dominating this industry on all levels, from production down to retail, so of course they can give you a deal on that hair mayonaise, because they got it from their wholesaling cousin for practically nothing.

  • ChellBellz

Asians probably know the better bargains to get hair cheaper. Come to think of it, I have never been to a black Owned Beauty Supply store. I have seen Black Employees with the Asians being the owners…I would love to have more options regarding this issue. We are the ones buying it, and using it. WHy not make ourselves as a black community richer?? Then you always have the issue of some black owned businesses not being professional…they need to work on it.

  • ChellBellz

    resurrected

More then 60% more like 80%

  • love me love me not

Well with that being said…What Am I gonna do when my hair gets nappy ? Ima run to the nearest beauty store and get me a perm

  • Southern Cabbage Patch

LMAO…I don’t mind the Asian Beauty Stores, I just feel that they need to hire more Afirican American women who specialize in our haircare. What can Ling Lee tell me about a wrap or nappy root stimulation???? I can’t be mad at a person challanging this. I’m all for it but when it’s perm time…it’s Ling Lee visit day!

  • eveinthegarden

I think the deeper point is what was brought out in Good Hair…these Korean distributors are LOCKING OUT African American beauty supply owners. They keep the market cornered amongst themselves despite the fact that their entire market is TO African Americans. Its an attempt to get them to desegregate the hair market.

  • jazzyphile

A lot of you ladies are missing the point. If you read the post, he stated that Black businesses are charged more by the distributors than Asians as the distributors are also Asian. Thus, the Black-owned shop is operating at a major disadvantage. The Asian shop can charge less as they are taking care of their own from a distribution level

  • eveinthegarden

Its not that they know to get it cheaper…they are selling only to themselves. If they sell to the African American store owner..they are paying a higher price..ie YOU have to pay a higher price.

  • Caramel Cat

Well this issue is something I’ve tried to do once before. There’s a beauty supply shop owned by asians in my area and apparently a black woman and her mother were put out of that store by the owner because they were taking too long to decide which color of weave or texture of weave they wanted. Then they tried to return something and the owner physically put them out and even smacked one of them on the wrist!

When I heard about that I started patronizing a black owned beauty supply shop but like Lady A said their prices were high and they didn’t seem to have all the inventory I was looking for. It got frustrating. I patronize Sally’s now…it’s just easier and I haven’t seen an asian working in there ever…

  • eveinthegarden

    exactly jazzy

FIRST OF ALL BLACK MAN, THEY ARE NOT SELLING BLACK HAIR. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A WIG IN ANY BEAUTY SUPPLY STORE WITH THE SAME TEXTURE AS MY HIAR. WE’RE BUYING THEIR HAIR AS WELL AS EUROPEAN HAIR. “WE’RE” THE FOOLS!

    NEGRO SIT CHO AZZ DOWN……NOW!

  • MISS LOVELY

WHAT? “BOYCOTTING THE WEAVE MAN”!! If I had false teeth they would of fell out on my keyboard right now!! That is like a crack fein boycotting the crack man! That is something a lot of sista’s will not be participating in. Walmart don’t sale quality Weave. What’s next Popeyes Fried Chicken?

You do have a point there!!!!!!

  • eveinthegarden

Do yall ladies stop to think how much money you’d save if you didnt have the upkeep of weaves and falls and ponytails…and getting your nails/toes done e’ery two weeks? Yall see the guys on Good Hair saying they can look at a woman and tell that they cant AFFORD her because of all that accessorizing yall do. (I thought the long weave was supposed to attract the dude…not drive him away?)

  • Southern Cabbage Patch

We need more Black owned business, that is the real issue here. I would think that Luster’s, Dudley’s, and Bonner Brothers would sell to blacks way before Asians but there just isn’t enough Black owned out here.

  • Caramel Cat

Since I don’t wear weave this topic doesn’t affect me as much as it might the next woman. I typically use simple products on my hair and many of them can be found at the grocery store…the money that comes out of my pocket the most goes to my hair dresser and she’s a black woman…lol

  • MISS LOVELY

That going to someplace else crap is bull!! Yall know some of us have a good re pore with our local “WEAVE MAN” sometimes he will even throw in a free.
    bottle of hair glue..

  • http://nautysgirl@yahoo.com bklynlady

I WISH BLACK WOMEN COULD WEAR THEIR OWN HAIR FOR A YEAR STRAIGHT AND SEE HOW MANY BEAUTY SUPPLY STORES DOMINCAIN HAIR DRESSERS (EVEN THO I LOVE MINE) WOULD GO OUT OF BUSINESS. KOREANS HAVE THE RUDEST ATTITUDES AND TREAT BLACK PEOPLE WITH DISRESPECT IN MANY FORMS. THEY DON’T EVEN LIKE OR HIRE BLACKS!!!!!!!! CHECK ANY KOREAN STORE FROM RESTURANTS TO SUPERMARKETS TO ANY ESTABLISHMENT THEY DON’T LIKE TRUST OR HIRE BLACK PEOPLE!!

WHY IF IM ORDERING CHICKEN WINGS AND FRIED RICE I CAN ONLY GET TWO DUCK SAUCES? LOL SO YOU MEAN TO TELL ME I JUST SPENT $4 ON FOOD AND HAVE TO PAY A EXTRA 5 CENTS FOR ONE EXTRA DUCK SAUCE AND YOU HAVE THE NERVE TO B*TCH ABOUT IT? LOL
IM TELLING YOU PEOPLE, WE NEED TO WAKE UP!!

  • Lady Architect (Being a Good Girl)

    MochaDreams,
Thank you for pointing that out to me because I really didn’t know that. MY hair is natural so I honestly don’t go to the beauty supply as much as I use to when I use to perm my hair and gel it down or whatever. I go to a black owned salon to get my hair straightened or twisted up. If I do get my hair weaved which is on rare occassions I still have to be honest and look at the quality of hair I choose to buy and see who is selling it at a price I am willing to pay for it. Many of the times it is an asian spot and it is not because I don’t want to support a black beauty supply store, but it’s really because of the amount of money I want to spend. As far as getting mani and pedi, it is very rare that I find a black salon that does it. Atleast where I live here in southeast VA.

  • white male

I don’t get it why would black people boycott asian hair stores???

  • ABSTRACT

    PRIDE INTURN EVOKES POWER!!!!!!!!!!

  • Darkesthourgla ss

I’m glad I don’t wear weaves so Asians really don’t get my money. Every blue moon I might get some hair color but I’d much rather go to Sally’s. What’d really be nice is not only Black-Owned beauty shops but shops that cater to natural hair/hairstyles because not all sisters are slapping perms and weaves in their hair.

  • http://BOSSIPP TIFFANY’

So what people follow you around, high as hair is you better follow me around. They know people steal. So stop trying to act like it does not exsist. I know people who will rip their asses apart and sell that shish on the streets. If you know you don’t steal get over it. I know people the first chance they get that will take the whole counter out the store.People steal come on now and if you don’t steal and they follow you around curse their buts out the whole time you in the store or don’t shop there!!

  • Michelle

    @ bklynlady

You speak the truth, I stopped giving my money to those asians long ago. They are rude because they know blacks are addicted to the hair and have no other place to go. I go to Walmart and sometimes Sally’s. Black broads wake up!! They don’t respect you and laugh at how dumb you are. They are laughing all the way to the bank. I’d rather wear my real hair than let them get rich off of me. I know I am only one person, but its the principle to me.

Sistas just need to leave the weaves, the glue and stapples alone and give our hair a chance. A lot of them look a fool especially in pictures. A know of a lot of black women who don’t wear weave/wigs but then there is some that can’t live without it. Even if your hair is thinning on the sides or whatever, there’s products to help it grow back and a good diet helps, too.

  • Darkesthourgla ss

You are too funny. But i feel ya on that homemade conditioner. My mix is similar to yours but instead of mayo I use honey, olive oil, and aloe vera juice. Works great as a prepoo!

  • GoodKarma4Me

Its funny how they say black ppl spends thousands on hair products…Shoot i probably spend close to a 100 bucks a yr..no lie..

  • B.Sorrow

This is sad… our black communities know and if not are becoming aware and SHOWN, that YOU are being taken advantage of.. and most females will sit there and do nothing. Rather than rallying the group of people you know, to fight for a cuase that will level the field for anyone of AA decent to operate a beauty supply store fairly and while given back to OUR commmunity, setting a stage so that maybe my daughter if she saw fit to open store could have a FAIR chance of being successful… Living where I do, I see alot.. and I mean ALOT, of asians mistreatn the very customers they depend on, and thats the very reason I stopped my fiancee from going to asian owned stores. I pay whateva extra she wouldve paid, but at least when she goes its a black owned store I can sit in, in peace while she does her thing n see the black family that MY money is supporting.

  • Nova

That guy has a very a valid argument. If the intelligent black women of the world would take heed, then Maybe something would get done… but like it’s been posted above, chances are slim.

In Orlando, there’s one Walmart sized black owned beauty supply that I frequent and the beauty if it is that they great customer service! I will not step foot in a black owned place if they treat me worse than the Asians do…

i don’t understand why some black people are on such a mission to get black women all natural. fake nails, hair or whatever, didn’t blacks fight so long for freedom and the right to choose? i personally don’t wear weaves only because i find my own hair easier but it annoys me when the hair/nails/anything fake police think it is their mission to get every black woman all natural

    ————————————————–

You apparently did not read the article. The reason the supply is so low with Black distributors is due to the manufacturers unfairly channeling their inventories to the Asian distributors and locking out the Black ones. The Black distributors will never turn this around without the consumers help; it is not a situation where you can just sit back and demand that they get their act together. The manufacturers must be forced to do the right thing! The only entitiy with that kind of power is YOU, the consumer. You need to help the Black distributors help YOU and quit that igga ish!!

  • KENNEDY

I ve been saying this forever. We shouldn’t patronize ANY of their establishments, they hate us. Problem is I don’t know of any Black Beauty supplies. And the ONE that I was familiar with had to go out of business b/c their attitudes were so bad and the merch was waayyy high…

  • Ms. J

I do mind that Asians are primarily the only black beauty stores…. these folks aren’t from the US, and they are able to get these government loans, pimp the American people and retire in their own countries rich! This the problem with America. They hate to give to their own, but rather give to outsiders who can’t stand Americans…it’s all messed up!

  • Anon3

Black people don’t want to put in the work…asians will keep their store open on days where we may not want to….they also can get their family members to work in the store where we have a hard time doing that…they are willing to have stores in suspect neighborhoods and are not afraid of being hit up every once in a while….and their prices are reasonable….if we can start providing that same kind of service then we would have more beauty supply stores and those in our community would frequent them

  • Anon3

the one that I frequent doesn’t have their people following you because the register area is well elevated above the store level…they can see all up and through their store if need be

  • Ki

Maybe if black men would appreciate true African American beauty( natural hair, etc.), maybe Black Women wouldn’t have so much of a need to patronize these stores as much. I have seen many natural hair care stores and salons for black people and run by black people. But if society is constantly pushing down our throats that essentially the whiter you look, the better than we are going to continue to patronize the oriental stores. Why? Because they have the hair care industry on lock, and it has been that way for years. It would be really hard for a black business owner to grab a strong hold of the market at this point. Let’s be real. BUT we as people can broaden our ideas of beauty, because there is a market for natural hair care in the black community. Just my 2 cents….

  • Shay

Chicks will spend their rent, car payment, child support and their abortion money on some hair. They would rather do without pampers than do without weave.

  • Anon3

one thing I notice about asians business owners….America is big on customer service and being treating people well…asian business owners don’t follow that same standard….maybe that’s just how it is in their own country or maybe that’s how they treat Blacks…even something as simple as a refund….asians refuse to do it but it is apart of American culture….

  • Darkesthourgla ss

On the real ladies, From Africa to the States to Uk and Asia we are supposed to be monopolizing the industry cause we are the main consumers. Where are our entrepreneurs? Ladies come on…we are being used here; we are enriching others out of a demand we are creating on a daily basis. This is not about race or ethnicity, but you don’t see the Cubans smoking imported cigars do you? Or the Germans driving around in Hummers. If we are gonna use weaves at least let us know that someone who does not need the weave isn’t laughing all the way to the bank.

Reading some of these responses is why it is hard for another black person to own a business. We just don’t like to support each other no matter what. Stop the black on black boycott people.

  • sigh’ing

All great points have been made on this subject. One poster touched on this, on how “outsiders” aka “foreigners off the boat”, are able to come to America dirt poor and are able to get loans and create businesses in OUR communities. Folks, there is a reason for this. America hates black people. Pure and simple. We have been at the bottom of the totem pole ever since we stepped off the boat. America has and will continue to make life difficult for black people.

Now this whole boycott of Asian stores etc., is a nice try, but these Asian shops will never go out of business. This article is implying that 30 million black people need to stop buying weaves, getting mani/pedicures done?? Please. Black people can’t even come together to rid our community of drugs and violence. And this guy thinks we can stop buying “creamy crack” and weaves? Aww…nawwww

  • GoodLuck

People do business in the black community because black folk spend their money.

When black folk stop becoming the biggest consumers and try some entreprenurship and doing right by their own kind, we will progress.

    Until then, good luck!!

Our biggest challenge in the community is not THE MAN. It’s the sellouts.

I’ve always found it so disprectful to speak in your native language when your servicing a customer of another origin. I understand all of them don’t speak very good english but hell as with anything else practice makes perfect. As far as supporting them, I don’t wear weave so I have no reason to go there however, I do go to their nail salon’s and they all treat you the same. I wish there were more black owned nail salons and hair stores but we probably won’t support each other so in the meantime what is there to do. Heck, I’d rather shop Sally’s like others have said, at least they speak english (unless you’re in TEXAS)

DEVIN ROBINSON NEEDS TO GO SIT THE HE11 DOWN SOMEWHERE. Shes seems ignorant and predjudice and basically a HATER. Instead of attacking other races because BLACKS havent stepped up to the plate yet what she could do instead is open up her OWN chain of beauty supply stores and try and get or find as many intllectual buisness orientated blacks to run it and work for her. Thats to me how you do and ya never know, how the results may turn out…but I had many unpleasant INCIDENTs WITH BLACKS AT MANY STORES THEN WITH ASIANS CAUCASIANS MEXICANS AND SO FORTH…SADLY our ppl JUST do not know how to respect and treat one another.

What reaaallly makes this boycott stupid is that the majority of the products that are sold at BEAUTY SUPPLY stores (Extensions and wigs.) 95% doesnt even belong to Blacks. Soooo how can we fight for a Store that carries many items or things that seems to cater majority to African Americans in a country that is free, for something that doesnt truly belong to us? Just because many blacks shop and get there nails done at “certain places” doesnt give US the right to own it completely? If anything it should inspire and motivate blacks to want to open up such buisnesses that are similiar and then knock out the competetion fair and square..I honestly believe that if we knew how to treat one another then that could have been possible a looonngg time ago and by then im pretty sure we would see rarely foreign owned “beauty supply stores” as we rarely see blacks. Not boycotting it…thats stupid. and ignorant. If we went against everything or place that has discriminated against blacks or catered to blacks that werent owned by blacks then we would probably be owning 85% of the Buisnesses in this country.

I sadly believe that the main reason we hardly see highly respected and well established “black” owned buisnesses because alot of our ppl havent established how to not only love ourselves but to respect one another. So we dismay that and take the easy route an simply accuse the next man or thing as a block. Theres still a quiet yet obvious struggle for alot of our ppl…

    I don’t believe “1Cl*****icDoll”, is black. Lol..
America will never let black people become successful entrepeneurs. And they’re certainly not going to let “us” take control over the billion dollar hair business. Naw…not gonna happen.

Who knows…maybe the world will end in 2012. *shrugs*

He’s right we need to support our own people. Jewish people have been doing it forever and its allowed them to rise above the discrimination they’ve faced by becoming self sufficient on the goods and services produced by their own people. I know Jewish people who only shop at Jewish owned stores, buy Jewish owned brands, and even choose to see only Jewish doctors. If we as black people are to elevate, we need to follow the example of the Jewish people. They too have been oppressed, discriminated, and had genocide committed against them, but they found a way to rise above it as a people and become one of the most successful demographics on this planet.

If AA business owners ran a business that was reliable and open when people need it and have what people need when they need it. Or can get it and act like they want customers. And for crysakes be nice. Realize the customer is always right even when their wrong and treat their customers like they really need them (because they do) AA owner could charge a lil more and still be successful.

the bottom line is that all you black chics need to stop putting all that weave in your hair. grow your hair if you want long hair. it’s seems that most black women’s concerns lie within the need for weaves and extensions. save your money and grow your natural hair.

As a bi-racial person who is the product of a Korean beauty supply owner and an African American father I do support his effort to have more black owned stores. That can never be bad and as blacks we need to focus on closing the gap. However, I do find his negative comments about Koreans offensive. My mother is Korean and I know for a fact she is not racist. She has a black husband, black step-son and bi-racial daughter. The fact is people steal. Black, white, yellow…whatever. We follow EVERYONE around the store. It just happens that the majority of customers in the beauty supply store are black. I have seen my mother work 14 and 16 hour days to keep the store open. Even on holidays when people need their last minute hair. She has also sold hair at whole sale price to women who really need it. Not women who just want to be stylish but women who have their hair falling out. With no profit for us.

I feel that instead of trying to bash other races he should focus on uplifting blacks. Have we all forgotten about the Chinese who first moved into the Mississippi Delta. They were discriminated against and for awhile classified as “blacks” just because they were non-white. We all face discrimination. I am sorry that he experienced that at one particular Korean owned store; however, one cannot judge an entire race based on a generalization. We as blacks should understand that the most.

Well all I have left to say is that I for one would not mind seeing more black owned businesses in general. Beauty supply or not. Just don’t step on other people who also struggle in your way to the top.

Obviously black people with money put their funds into more lucrative business rather than owning wig shops. For one everyone knows Oriental people have the down low hookups on stuff like this and two this guy is a racist himself. Asian people have a right to own and sell whatever they like just like everyone else, it just so happens they’ve created a market selling hair that he feels only black people should sell. This idiot is trying to convert the AA population into self segregation.

  • SarahPalin

Some of you are really funny! it doesn’t matter if you stop giving your money to oriental stores, you won’t stop giving your money to orientals because black people don’t produce hair! You better play nice people. If Asian women decided to stop selling their hair, many of you human hair weave users would be out of luck! Asian markets also produce synthetic hair. Whose fault is that? Blacks need to become chemists and engineers and make their own hair if they want to stop using Asian hair.

You are to late with this boycot.
I’m doing this for years.. I never buy my hair products at Chinese, Indian or whatever kind of race. I just dont do that. Supporting my black people

I totally agree with you Devon. I live in New Orleans, LA. and this is a big problem I have with beauty supply stores. Almost every beauty supply store here is owned by Asians who are getting rich off selling black products. To top it off most of the Asians don’t know how to talk English and are utterly rude when asked a question. You are being stalked and asked over 10 times do u need any help? How can u help me I you don’t know anything about my hair? I stopped going to Asian owned Beauty supply Stores and started going to Sally’s. At least at some Sally Beauty Supply stores here in New Orleans there is an African American worker in the store who you can relate to. I commend you Devon and I hope you have success on this project.

    It will NEVER happen.

Too many coloured people are too ashamed of themselves and their hair to care about being degraded and humiliated at Asian stores.

They need their hair and skin-bleaching products more than self-respect.

Black folks never stick together on anything of substance. Every community (Asians,Hispanics, Indians)etc. support one another. This guy is doing something great for all of us. We are making every other community wealthy. We can be such a ignorant race at times. WAKE UP MY PEOPLE!!!

  • THEY HAV NO PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE

YES! I WILL LEAVE ANY STORE THAT THE EMPLOYER OR EMPLOYEE FOLLOWS ME AROUND,IT HAPPENS OFTEN IN ASIAN OWNED STORES. JUST A WEEK AGO, I WAS IN A BEAUTY SUPPLY STORE WITH MY 7 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER, CALLED, “OK” BEAUTY IN LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA AND I WAS LOOKING FOR A CERTAIN PRODUCT,THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. THEN THEY TRIED TO TELL ME THAT THE COMPANY DO NOT MAKE THE PRODUCT. I RESPONDED THAT THEY DO, IVE BROUGHT THAT PRODUCT FROM SEVERAL STORES, YOU JUST DONT HAVE IT. SO THEN SHE TRIED TO TELL ME ABOUT SOME OTHER PRODUCT THAT I WASNT GOING TO BUY, SO I STARTED LOOKING FOR SOME OTHER PRODUCTS AND THATS WHEN THE ASSOCIATE STARTED FOLLOWING US AROUND THE STORE. MY DAUGHTER BROUGT IT TO MY ATTENTION AND I CONFROUNTED HER. AND ASKED, WHY ARE YOU FOLLWING US? SO, I PUT MY PRODUCTS ON THE FLOOR AND LEFT THE STORE AND EXPLAINED TO MY DAUGHTER WHY WE LEFT THE STORE. I DROVE TO THE OTHER SIDE OF TOWN TO A BLACK OWNED BEAUTY SUPPLY , “FRIDAYS” IN COMPTON. GOT ALL THE ITEMS I WANTED PAID A LITTLE EXTRA BUT IT WAS WORTH IT….

    Hi Devin!

I hope you will read this. I first heard about you on Michael Baisden, and I want you to know that I am participating in the boycott. I only purchase my supplies from Nile Beauty Supply or Universal Beauty Supply in Charlotte, NC, which are both owned by East Africans.

This subject has been near and dear to my heart since I was a kid growing up in Gainesville, FL, and all we had were the Asian-owned establishments. It is my goal to become a successful owner of a chain of beauty supply stores. The money is there, in abundance, and not even a recession can slow the train.

    Wish me luck!

  • tried to purchase hair from asian for store

I read all your posts and this is what happens to black owned business that try to purchase from the korean hair manufacturers. what i am telling you is so true. I contacted Harlem 125 which is Jigu trading corp. I asked to speak to the rep. I clearly stated i would like to carry your product. He seemed all interested he ask to send copy of my license.. I provided my business number. He faxed me over a credit application. I simply stated i do not need a credit application for my business. this is one of their tricks they use in order not to sell to you.. they no once a retailer state they dont need credit. they should set up an c.o.d account. and fax over a sales and use tax certificate of exemption. I asked for that instead he told me i googled your address and your not a business. huh! i couldnt believe what i was hearing. My business is even trade marked for record. i contacted another business and this one seem legit and she simply told me the reason why, they sent me that credit application is because they dont want to sell to black own business and she dont think what they’re practing is fair. she stated that they will give the black owned beauty suppliers the higher prices so they have to sell their products higher. that explains why colored women go to the chinese stores. I just think that is not fair practice. Once you sell a product that productr should be sold at the same price to every retailer. I think there is a law against that pricing. These tatics is the reason why apple and software companies make sure every distributor keep the prices the same and if they find out your doing illegal they will not supply to you. I also dont think the hair business should be just owned by black owners but the market should be treated equal.

  • tried to purchase hair from asian for store

She also stated to me that another reason they give the black beauty suppliers the application is because they think the women are calling in to order for themselves. I can understand that but I think once a business owner have supplied you with their license that type of thinking should have went out the window. What they also need to realize is that, dont send the wrong message by using women of color on the magazines if you have no intention of sellling your merchandise to colored business owners. Instead, use the white chinese or korean woman. I am not being racist when i say that but that is mileading to black beauty suppliers and black people when you use a colored woman throught out the whole magazine. Just dont do it use the korean and keep it in there neighborhood. I dont think they should be boycotted because they own all the shops. I think they should be boycotted for unfair trade practices.. they should be treated just like people did tommy hilfiger. he learned a lesson and it is time for them to learn a lesson in the manufactuering and trade business. Here in America, we dont tolerate that. Everyone is treated fair.

  • tried to purchase hair from asian for store

i will list everyone of them here on this site if i encounter any unfairness. This is America and nothing should be owned just by one race of people. If your legit in the business and doing legit things then you should be allowed the same nice respect. The other trick is they will require you to purchase 1,000.00 min. The ones i have dealt with so far do not require that type of min. they explained that is another tatic. It is nice to know that not all are like that but if you plan of just selling to one to race than keep it real and dont paste another race on your cover to get a sell.

  • tried to purchase hair from asian for store

let me correct one thing i was not trying to type white in the first post. I wanted to say every white supplier i called. i had no problem and they didnt send me that dang credit application. they knew what to send and they would ask if you needed credit. I am not being racist when i say that either.
