i definitely see your point. there are many people, i’m guessing that you are one of them, who are genuine in what they believe. i was referring to people who actually don’t believe or practice a particular faith…and just adopt certain theories as a means to justify their own desires. for example…i know someone who eats pork like ther is no tomorrow…drinks and curses like a damn sailor…however when anyone questions his rampant sexualy trysts with various women…he tries to quote the Quran on how polygamy is cool…and yadda yadda…that sh*t is wack and annoying.

and there are a few for every kind. i personally do not feel that being gay is a sin(lol and i may be biased for personal reasons)and i have issue with religions that say so…but then again i have issues with religion in general. but if that’s what a person believes….what can i do/say…? nothing. it’s just very sad when we persecute each other for things beyond our personal choosing or control…like being gay…or black…ow whatever.

Recently I learned someone close to me is gay and from talking to them part of me feels their struggle. Society (churches, schools, media, etc.) does not make it easy for gay people to feel comfortable with being open about their sexuality. You can’t on one end ask gay people to be open and come out the closet and on the other side rant and rave about how disgusting it is to be or even act gay. You cant be ok with 2 women performing gay acts but not accept 2 men performing gay acts. You can’t hate on gay people for something that they are born with but expect to not be judged based on the color of your skin or the way you look…..

I understand wholeheartedly what you are saying. Just because it doesn’t effect someone doesn’t mean its not a sin. We as people don’t get to choose what is a sin and what is not. However, it is a sin to GOD. HE is the only one that matters but if you (not you personally) are not a believer in Christianity, then I guess it doesn’t matter and you should just continue to do you. Being dishonest is wrong but when you put other’s lives in jeopardy, that’s a whole different thing. You have issues with religion as whole per your post above and you are not sure of your sexuality as you posted above. I don’t think you can call HIV/AIDS a “punishment.” One of my cousins passed away from AIDS-related complications several years ago. He was very smart, creative, and gregarious — he also happened to be gay, but my love for him certainly didn’t change. Homosexuality is certainly still a taboo subject in the black community (coincidentally, the LA Times did a story last week on the struggles of gay students at Morehouse), and homophobia is definitely a symptom of ignorance. As far as DL brothers go, you can just as easily contract HIV from a hetero brother who has had unprotected sex with multiple partners, and vice versa.

Gay people are targeted for abuse…murder…and ridicule. many times they are rejected by familty…ousted by society…and have some of the highest depression and suicide rates in the country. why would anyone CHOOSE a life that is so hard? do you choose to be straight? no…you don’t even consider it…from as early on as u can remember…you liked who u liked…being gay is no different from that. people fear what they do not understand-and that is a very dangerous thing because people tend to act crazy in the face of fear.

umm, its pretty funny actually b/c living in ny which is so diverse you wouldn’t expect it…but i have definitely experienced sexism…racism…and i guess..well i dunno what u call gettin hated on for sexual preference lol…but…yeah. seen it all..heard it all…lived to tell the tale. and its weird because i am they shyest quietest person u’ll ever meet so its not like i incite these situations…people just come up to me all the time and say dumb sh*t. for example…i have really been trying to find myself in church lately. i have been “shoppin” around a few places….going to different ones and seeing how i feel, and anyway i went to one and this woman approached me…she said she recognized me(i’m heavy in the poetry circuit)from a few shows i had done and very bluntly told me that based on my material…i was obviously “confused” and she didnt think it was appropriate for me to bring all that to her spot of worship. mind you…i was sitting alone…minding my buisness…i was really so shocked and hurt that i just teared up…mumbled somethin bout her having a good day and left.

Stoney, the point was homosexuals say “I was born this way” and that, in my opinion, doesn’t fly. Just because you feel the urge to do something doesn’t mean that you have to do it. In other words, the urge is not in and of itself the action. And it is not unlike any other tendency (wrong or otherwise) toward something… The point is saying “I was born this way” is not a good “excuse” if you’re looking for one… One man with deep-seated psychotic tendencies might use the same excuse after a murder. Or another who is morbidly obese, might say the same of his refusing to eat healthy. And another might be utterly servile, citing his “good nature” as the cause for his weakness… The list just goes on and on… Not saying it’s bad, but “I was born this way” is not a qualifier, if we’re looking to make definitions here… it neither “explains” the situation or excuses it.

umm, for the people who say people are not born homosexuals, there have been some tests that pretty much proves that statement wrong.

Ever heard of pheromones? They are a hormone that humans have, it has no smell, but straight men reacts to female pheromones, and straigt females reacts to male pheromones. Studys have shown that when gay men were subjected to pheromones of both genders, (these gay men did not know what the experiment would subject them to, but were hooked up to a machine that would record their body’s reactions) gay men then had the same reactions to male pheromones that woman had. And no reaction to female pheromones. Basicly proving they had a biological attraction to men they had no control over. Christians were worried abot this test, how can they preach that gay’s must be diffrent from how they were born? That’s like telling a man with one leg to grow a new one!

(1) You’ve got courage – You came in here and “checked us” for talking bad about homosexuals…

(2) Intelligent – Not once, did you go about arguing your point by cursing us out and such…

You made your points, articulated yourself well, etc… (*I wish more people on here would do that when expressing their viewpoint on the topic at hand)

It appears to me that you’re turning over “every stone” to gain understanding to help you deal with some of the problems/issues that you’re facing in life and IN MY OPINION the church is one of the BEST places to do that because you’re seeking “Godly Counsel” (*now finding a good church with a good pastor that focuses on the Bible is another thing all in itself)

(3) Talented – You do poetry and you’re on a circuit so that means you’re good because you get “asked back” to perform again and again…

If you weren’t that good people wouldn’t ask you back – right?

The last thing I’ll say that a lot of people on here will agree with me on is that you’ve got to live your life FOR YOU and you CAN’T be making decisions based on what YOU THINK other people may have to say and/or their opinions…

You have to live your own life and act on what YOU believe. All we are doing is giving our opinion on the subject at hand. I don’t think anyone is judging you…I just think folk are talking about what they believe. I was simply making a point when I listed all of those subjects not in a comparative fashion to each other, but in the since, that we as humans, have the ability to make a cognitive choice about our life. We all tend to have strong feelings on subjects…until they hit close to home….then we often find ourselves augmenting our stance. I use to be hard core against the act and the people who practiced the act…then I met some cool folk at work who just so happened to be Homosexual….I augmented my stance when I started talking to them about the issue. It’s a hard life and I know they face a lot of discrimination…so while I’m still opposed to the act because of my beliefs..I still love my friends! So do you!
