Teen Pregnancy

This high school better start making birth control a mandatory subject:

“A state public health official is urging Gloucester officials to take swift and decisive action, including allowing prescription birth control, to curb a spike in teen pregnancy among students at Gloucester High School, where a record 17 girls are pregnant.”

Damn, these ho’s got home-room looking like a lamaze class ‘n’ sh*t. Now who ever heard of that many triflin’ ass teenagers getting knocked the hell up around the same time?? Where are their parents in all this? It truly baffles the mind. SMH.

maybe it was a hell of a party they all attended and that ONE knucklehead, with super sperm got them all good!? oooh, that’s some dna shyt i would pay to see! but if the little hookers are all about the same months, they need to check the guest list at THAT one house party they all sho’nuff attended! SMH .. damn! my high school had two [2] pregnant chics out of 2,309 kids and we all would look at them like HOW IN THE HELL DID THAT HAPPEN!? back way when, when kids were a bit more naive

  • lil latte

    Where is Gloucester ?

  • WordtotheWise

Sex ed starts at home. If a girl or boy cannot talk to a parent, someone better educate them because this is ridiculous. I cosign with you Indigo regarding these young boys. They need to learn to be responsible too since it takes two to make a baby. Guys are always getting a free pass when they need to suit up as well. I don’t even care if more birth control is available to girls. In this day of HIV/AIDS and teen pregnancy, these guys need to protect themselves as well.

  • Qt

@circa-81 <– WHAT IN THE HELL TYPE OF SPECIAL ED SCHOOL [cause those kids were always more freaky then the regular kids] DID YOU ATTEND! HOW ARE ALMOST HALF THE GIRLS PREGNANT? and what kind of pure hormonal water were they serving you guys! DAYUMMM!

  • MS KNOWLEDGE

BIRTH CONTROL PILLS ARE JUST AZ WORSE AS MOTHERS BEIN PERMITED IN THIS SICK BACKWARDZ AZZ WORLD TO KILL THEIR UNBORN CHILD. THE BEST WAY FOR A GIRL NOT TO GET PREGNANT IS FOR HER LEGS TO STAY CROSS LIKE A LADY UNTIL A REAL MAN COMES ALONG AND IS READY TO HELP HIS WOMAN NOT GIRL BE A MOTHER AND TAKE CARE OF HIS CHILD. A CHILD AND LIFE IS A GIFT FROM GOD…AND PPL ABUSE LOVE AND NOT ONLY LIFE FOR THEIR SICK PLEASURES IN JUST WANTIN TO LAY DOWN WITH SOMEONE FOR THE PLEASURE OF IT WHEN LOVE MAKIN IS MUCH DEEPER THAN A QUICK PUMP….ABORTIONS…ABANDON CHILDREN…WOULDNT EXIST IF NOT ONLY PPL GAVE MORE RESPECT TO GODS GIFTS…LIFE.&..LOVE…. GIVIN A GIRL BIRTH CONTROL PILLS IS LIKE GIVIN AN 11YR.OLD BOY A CONDOM NIETHER PROTECTS YOU FROM FATAL OR SICK CONSEUQENCES BUT LOVE WILL. SEX IS BAD BECAUSE ITS ONLY FOR PLEASURE AND CARRIES MOSTLY SAD AND BAD CONSEQUENCES. LOVE MAKING IS GOOD BECAUSE IT GOES DEEPR THAN THE PLEASURE OF IT. AND LOVE WILL NEVER HURT OR KILL YOU.

Gloucester, Massachusetts. I went there last summer, to Cape Ann. I can’t even believe that. That area seemed so stush but I guess you never can tell.

@ circa-81… Maybe this high school only had 18 girls in their class! lol

  • circa-81

    @VA666

Nahh you talking probably it would be around 250 girls that were pregnant. Because if I’m no mistaken we had over 700 students that graduated that year.

  • bree

i am LMMFAO @ Re for saying their hair is almost always wet!

clearly, these kids have too much time on their hands.

  • msjlh

    Well said at Shannon O.

  • Al-Anon

I always find that its interesting that people want to address this issue with birth control pills. Clearly, there are some deeper rooted issues at play. Not one girl has ever told me that she got pregnant because she forgot or didn’t want to take her birth control pills. I work at a community college where many young women had children as teens but their pregnancy is usually about something else in their lives. I don’t think that I’ve ever heard anyone tell me that they fell in love.

Usually, they’re not doing well in school and it is an excuse making mechanism for justifying their failure and meeting emotional needs that are not being met at home or being met in other productive ways.

It’s sort of the same social problem as young men going to jail and young women get pregnant. The only constant that I notice is fatherlessness.

  • msjlh

Everything is just so geared towards sex and violence.

You can’t even watch a simple cartoon without sex being an underlying current.

  • msjlh

    @Al-Anon

While I agree with some of what you said. I don’t believe fatherlessness is the only constant. You can be raised by one parent (mother) and not get caught up. But that goes back to not just parenting but good parenting. Don’t be scared to tell your children what’s real out here.

i have two sons ages 13 and 11 and I constantly tell them about the many traps that the world has waiting for them. i tell them that their EDUCATION is their girlfriend and they better be faithful to it.

  • circa-81

    @ Ms Knowledge

Sex is bad!? Huhhh? What foreign tongue is this you speak of?? This is a man’s main aspiration in life. Oh well, I guess that makes me a “baaaaad booooy.”

  • Mr. Perfect

17 that’s it? (zzzz) come to the southside of the ATL where I stay. All I see is babies pushin babies in strollers.

  • Al-Anon

I don’t think that fatherlessness is the only culprit, but I do notice that it a common denominator in many young women’s lives.

A couple of days ago, I had a student tell me that she got pregnant so she could move away from home. She didn’ like her mother’s boyfriend who had moved in with the mother. But she didn’t have enough money to live on her own, so she got pregnant. Now, by being pregnant, she can actually move out and get some help. It’s sad.

  • corey

These girls REALLY keep their legs closed. Cause in the long run those babies are going to suffer and then they will end up being a statistic. (well they are realy are being born to teenagers)

  • Jo

That is a pillow stuffed up her shirt. Not saying it aint a serious matter; however, this young girl is not pregnant.

  • http://myspace.com/sondraowens Sondra Owens

If u r going to be “grown” and have sex use some type of protection. In todays age I use condoms EVERY time. The only thing birth control can do is prevent pregancy and Id rather get pregnant 1000 times than have HIV or AIDS. However i do use BC just in case the condom breaks, which does happen!

Also knowledge of safe sex begins at home and if u as a parent decide to let society raise your kids then so be it.

My mother always instilled in me to use condoms if I decided to have sex because you cannot stop a teenager from doing it period point blank!

And I look at my friend who had a baby at 15; her mother never talked to her about sex, let alone safe sex.

Uhhh yes 17 is bad when the AVERAGE is 4 a year. That is a 300% increase. Gloucester is in Massachusetts and the town is mostly white (97%). THIS is why it is getting so much media attention.

  • circa-81

But, to all the other dudes, young and old, please be of proper moral standing and wait till your married. Less of you that I have to compete with. Damn, did I just type that last part? My plan is foiled.

  • Aunt Viv

It’s just troubling on so many levels…I know there are places where the situation is even worse, but what I don’t understand is how these young’ns don’t understand the consequences of their actions. Sure it feels nice when it’s happening but what happens when the girls get pregnant. It’s bad enough that not finishing high school for any reason severly compromises one’s future financial potential but to have that issue made even more challenging by having to take care of a baby on minimum wage? SMH.

  • Al-Anon

My point is that there is usually something emotionally or psychologically going on that is causing a lot of girls to get pregnant. It’s not to blame any one issue.

  • http://WWW.MYSPACE.COM/BRIDGEPORTDIVA Call_me_nikki

Point blank, these teenagers are going to have sex regardless. Nothing us adults are going to say is going to change that. However, what we can do is educate them on the dangers of not protecting themselves. All these parents are so stuck on “make sure you use your birth control so you don’t pregnant.” I think what these children need is a reality check and realize that they can get diseases if they don’t use condoms. Society is saying to these children getting pregnant is worst than getting a disease. It’s not. It’s just as bad and depending on what you contract you may not be able to get rid of it. So for the teenagers out there. If you gonna have sex wrap it up and focus on your future and don’t be in a rush to get more responsiblity. I’m 24 years old with two children….I’m still with the father and I was of age when I got pregnant but it is still a struggle everyday. I love my children to death but if I could do it again I would waited for to have them.

  • My son’s parole officer said it’s gonna be alright!

    @ K.ola

What makes you think that they had more than one man? You do know that it only takes one time to get pregnant. These are teenagers, they shouldn’t have a man at all!!! They need to know their “self worth”. They need to value their body which is their personal temple. If they had enough respect for themselves, then they would not put themselves at risk for unwanted pregnancy.

  • Lush-Us Lipps

First of all let’s not call them ho’s – that was very inappropriate – they are still minors! But I must agree maybe they should distribute all forms of birth control because not only are they getting pregnant they are also exposing themselves to various disease. If they can’t get educated on safe sex at home – let them learn at school!

Wow, that’s interesting. When I went to an all white high school, they either got married or took up donations for an abortion. They didn’t choose single parenthood.

  • Al-Anon

Wow, with my parents, getting pregnant was not an option. It’s not something that would even cross our minds. You would get a severe whipping if you even brought a stray dog home. Bringing another mouth home to feed was tantamount to a death sentence at my house. My parents weren’t having it…..no way and no how.

Today, I would probably report them to 1-800-CHILD ABUSE cause they were crazy.

People need to stop downplaying this like it’s nothing. ‘Oh, 95% of my graduating class was pregnant, so this ain’t nothing…’ blah, blah, blah. This is SAD.

These girls aren’t hoes, they just need some serious direction. They need to understand that having children before they’re married/grown isn’t cute. Well, it’s cute until the bills start rolling in and the new mothers can’t afford to feed or diaper those babies.

I’m noticing that alot of young girls that I know are ‘accidentally’ popping up pregnant not long after one of their friends become pregnant. It’s almost like a domino effect. Some of these girls are filling an emotional void and I really think that it’s unfair to label them hoes.

  • CNS

Even if their parents don’t talk them about sex, these teenagers(boy and girls) know everything else. They are so sopisticated when it comes to getting fake ID’s, crashing computers, downloding and stealing music, breaking the codes in cell phones, but no one can figure out how the use birth control properly.

I heard someone say the when these young people make these dumb mistakes it just makes it easy for those who want something better in life to get ahead faster. I thought it was a cruel thing to say, but there is some truth to it.

Why does someone discriminate black? I don’t think love is just belongs to white. I’m a black and but my hubby is white. We met at +((((((+ I n t i m a t e m i n g l e. c o m +))))))+which tell us love is color blind. Our love proved this. I hope each one will not discriminate blacks.

I would like to thank +((((((+ I n t i m a t e m i n g l e. c o m +))))))+for bringing a very close friend from 17 years ago. I never had the chance to express how I really felt. I had always watched her from afar, but due to Mutual friends it wouldn’t be right, but now we are planning to meet for new years eve. We have exchanged dozens of e-mails and phone calls. She now knows how I felt for her 17 years ago, And our future is as bright as ever.

  • Ghost

17??? Hell I know 11 year olds carrying babies with GROWN MEN AS THE FATHERS!

This isn’t on teachers, this starts at HOME. What is that little seeing at home??

A mother laying on her back making babies with whatever NEGRO she can find and then head to the welfare office for a check?

A mother using what is in between her legs to prove to a no good NEGRO that she loves him?

How many of these girls are finding love in the arms of grown men (R. Kelly?) since Daddy isn’t around?

We are not teaching our girls to keep their legs closed and what is worst they are giving it up to Urkel, Nick Cannon or guys that want a future. They are humping deadbeats, jail birds, thugs and loser that are so hood. And they think belting out babies make them grown. How are you going to an 8th grader with 4 kids? Yet you knw where the welfare office, but not the father(s).

  • http://google extacy

bissop i cant agree with you on this just because a teen is having a baby doesnt make them triflin the sin is not the baby it is the sex. how do you think we all got here stop being so judgemental and educate our youth because calling them triflin wont help

I hope this town and the families are surrounding these young parents (both the young fathers and the young mothers) with the support they need to be good parents, to complete school, and to prepare for college and employment.

Why does this school want to take the easy way out and just provide birth control, why not teach these young girls not to have sex so dame young, i would love to go back in time be a kid with no responsibility accept to take my ass to school and come back home.

…But of course teaching young girls about contraception is basically encouraging them to have sex.May wanna RE-THINK that idiocy right about now.Women may mature faster than men…but that ‘aint sayin’ much .THEY’RE STILL STUPID ABOUT BIRTH CONTROL.Since they’re the ones who have babies…and since there are AT LEAST 8 options for them before you even touch abortion…women need to be taught from every angle to NOT BREED until you’ve got at least good money in the bank.Otherwise you put another poor idiot on this Earth.MUCH LIKE YOURSELF.Sounds harsh? TOO DAMN BAD.Being a single mom is harsher.Just ask your mom.

  • Al-Anon

    ________________________________________

They aren’t hoes. They’re either escaping, already failing or trying to fill an emotional or psychological void in their lives. That’s what we need to address. I don’t know if we need to that with or without birth control.

I meet brothas with the same issues. I had a 19 year old student in my office with four (4) two year old children with four different women. All the children were born within two weeks of one another.

He said “Nobody told them to get pregnant. They did that all on their own.”

Poor people and very rich people have a lot in common. Both groups can do things that most can’t. The poor don’t have much to lose and the very rich can buy themselves options.

Many poor women look at P. Diddy, Brad Pitt, Madonna and Halle Berry who are having children and aren’t married and say that no one says anything to them. They have money and celebrity to try to fix whatever’s wrong with their lives.

Poor and middle class women don’t. Unless you have strong family support and adequate income, you have just made a choice to make your life more difficult and complicated. Yes, you love your child deeplty, but you have made a choice to make your life more difficult and complicated. Some opportunities will be lost and options will be limited. It’s a fact of life. Some can glamorize it all they want to, but raising people is serious business, it ain’t for the weak!

  • African princess

Kids need to be whipped. The problem with kids today is that they have too many rights. At 17 sex was the last thing on my mind. Kids don’t do extra-curricular activities anymore. I played Basketball, netball, swimming, athletics, i was head of house and the entrepreneurs club. I’m not trying to sound important, but I was too busy to even consider having a boyfriend. And my parents weren’t afraid to slap me around and I’m thankful for it. I would rather my kids fear me and be thankful later than ruin their lives before it even begins. I have a son 2yrs old and I’m married and 26 yrs old, but I still wish I could have waited because raising a child is not easy. You need to be emotionally, spiritually, economically and physically ready to have a child. Young girls, respect yourselves. You don’t have to be the cool one because you’re having sex. You’ll be better of when everyone else is lagging behind because they thought they were smart. You are worth more than you believe you are.

  • CNS

For all of those out here that would like to use ignorance as an excused to get pregnant or get a girl pregnant, just go to the Planned Parenthood website, type in your zip code and they will give you a list of locations near you. You can ger FREE condoms there even if you underage. Like I said before, if you know how to downlode free music or setup a Myspace page with questionable photos, then I have full confidence that you can do this also.

For those who claim to have no access to a computer try looking it up in the Yellow Pages. Last time I check they deliver those to your home for free. Know if you choose not to use these options and continue to have unprotected sex, who do you have to blame?

  • realwoman

Ghost did you know that the teenage pregnancy rate in the hispanic community is WAY larger than the AA? Obviously NOT….

I know this will not be a popular sentiment but here goes. Women used to have children at much younger ages than they do now back in the day. That was because they weren’t as concerned about school and careers. Back in the day a woman’s place was at home serving her husband. Times have changed and now we look down upon women who have their children early. It was a very common thing for women of all races to start families young and because the life expectancy was less than it is now…ages like 15,16,17 were not considered too young to have children. This is an ‘epidemic’ that’s really an epidemic now because of how society has changed. I am starting to believe that we should allow women to have children when their cultures, bodies and minds decide they should, but also provide ways for them to suppor themselves and their children at younger ages. Think about it…we give men from the age of 16 to whenever to have children while women are expected to quickly pop them out between the ages of 22-35….

Some of these young girl purposely get pregnant in order to have someone to love and love them unconditionally. Unfortunately in some cases if one girl get pregnant in a group then the friends or cousins follow so they can bring their kids up together. The whole thing disgusts me, so I try to talk to the younger women and encourage them to choose a career, make life goals and stick to the plan. They can have children when they are much more mature and financially established.

  • Sharonda

Well their life is going to be much harder if some decide to continue their education.Kids are expensive. And kids having kids make it no easier because a McDonalds or retail job is not gone cut it.Say hello to more tax dollars.A friend of mine is dealing with some issues. This grown man has about 7 kids, no job and these young girls fighting over him on myspace.I mean something is not right.I could go on to say where at the parents, but parents are getting tired of bad ass kids thinking they grown. That goes for males and females.

  • AJ

I know the town is upset about the school suggesting giving out birth control pills. But obviously the parents at home are not educating their kids about the dangers of sex and they are having to find out on their own. Hence why 17 kids are pregnant.

  • AJ

in matter of fact the whole situation is could be worse. It could be 17 girls with AIDS/HIV…. just something to think about.

  • .mzz.versace.™

i think my high school definitely beat that record. when i was in high school, the girls did nothing but have unprotected sex, brag about it, get pregnant, brag about that, and have babies. there were a few who even had more than one before they either turned 18, or before they graduated, IF graduation was even in their future. i see nowadays that these young females having babies see them as accessories, like purses or shoes. some girls even went as far as to talk about how they have sex during their cycles, because that’s the best time to get pregnant, with no remorse. i’m disgusted with the behavior of the females at my high school, and i’m sometimes embarrassed to having gone to that school. thank God i graduated, and my arse is in college, baby free. i say that to say this…females these days don’t have any respect for themselves anymore, which is the result of children raising children. the age gap in each generation is getting smaller and smaller, which saddens me. AJ, you do have a point, but at the same time, a baby at a young age isn’t exactly a picnic either.

  • InsertDopeWordsHere

    what about the fathers?

  • j’adore_dior

Well this is nothing… There are probably A LOT more girls at this school pregnant. I remember my freshman year of high school the we had counselors tell us at least 40 girls a year get pregnant… Out of all the girls that get pregnant I know not all of them are going to the counselors so there were probably more than that! And this was at a suburban high school!!!

  • Jani

Its all about parenting, what you teach your child about sex and relationships. To explain to them what you see on TV is reality, kids these days are all about visual, you can just say a child don’t have kids, they need expericence to trials and tribulations of having a child.

  • Mz.Ayita

17??? lol I’m not koin there are about 50 pregnant girls at my school and there about to be more soon…there are a lot of parties and drinking around here. there is maybe 2000 kids at my school and there are about a couple dozen pregnant chicks in each grade.
