Rapid Support May Cause Marijuana to Be Legalized in as Little as 4 Years…

Kush supporters are on the rise:

The same day they rejected a gay marriage ballot measure, residents of Maine voted overwhelmingly to allow the sale of medical marijuana, over the counter, at state-licensed dispensaries. Later in the month, the American Medical Association reversed a longtime position and urged the federal government to remove marijuana from Schedule One of the Controlled Substances Act, which equates it with heroin and cocaine.

A few days later, advocates for easing marijuana laws left their bi-annual strategy conference with plans to press ahead on all fronts — state law, ballot measures, and court — in a movement that for the first time in decades appeared to be gaining ground. “This issue is breaking out in a remarkably rapid way now,” said Ethan Nadelmann, executive director of the Drug Policy Alliance. “Public opinion is changing very, very rapidly.”

The shift is widely described as generational. A Gallup poll in October found 44 percent of Americans favor full legalization of marijuana — a rise of 13 points since 2000. Gallup said that if public support continues growing at a rate of 1 to 2 percent per year, “the majority of Americans could favor legalization of the drug in as little as four years.”

Hmmmm, we’re sure that makes a lot of you potheads extremely excited :)

    @coco AGREED!

    Oh Happy Day!!

  31. Please 11/23/09, 02:13:PM

It should be legal already with the same restrictions placed on alcohol. The American Govt is stupid for this one. Now (YEARS AFTER THE FACT)..since they need to make money (to pay those Katrina lawsuits) they’ve finally got their heads outta their asses.

  32. We "Blacks" Are The REAL Hebrew Israelites 11/23/09, 03:07:PM

We in California have been going to the clinics for a while but the police still harass people every now and then. This is awesome!

    **happy dance**

  33. goody_MOBB 11/23/09, 03:29:PM

how can it make a person that smokes it like its already legal more happier. we only get tickets for weed here if its small enough to be determined as personal use.

  34. LBCER 11/23/09, 03:43:PM

Waits for the rules on who can get it to tighten up, the govt. to keep track of people who are signed up, insurance companies denying future medical claims, and future employers denying jobs based on the names on that list. SMH!

  35. Please 11/23/09, 04:06:PM

I’d rather be a pothead than an alcoholic or chain cigarette smoker. Any day.

  36. msashley2004 11/23/09, 05:14:PM

    YES FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  37. Sheneneh 11/23/09, 11:06:PM

I doubt if this happens, not that I disagree but I seriously doubt that the majority of Americans will be in favor of it anytime soon. It’s a good thought though.

  38. Nytefyre 11/23/09, 11:29:PM

I support 100% full blown legalization! Prohibition has caused more problems and has put more people in jail than legalization ever would! End the prohibition of Marijuana!

  39. hotgal 11/24/09, 03:21:AM

If that happends I really don’t think Walmart pharmacy is gonna have some fi yi yi like my weed man does and I will grow my own stuff if it ever becomes legal i’m jus sayin

  40. marcellus kelley 11/24/09, 09:07:AM

GO AHEAD AND VIOLATE THE LAWS, SMOKER AND WATCH EVERYONE BE AT YOUR DOOR!YESSSSS!AND THANK-YOU!

  41. COOKIE 11/24/09, 10:34:AM

THEY NEED TO LEGALIZE IT, THEN THE GOVERNMENT COULD TAX IT AND MAKE SOME MONEY, THESE IDIOTS NEED TO SEE THE LIGHT. LEGALIZE AND MAKE MONEY. THEN WE WOULD NOT HAVE TO WORRIE ABOUT THE DRUG DEALERS, PEOPLE COULD PURCHASE AT A SAFE PLACE, AND IT WOULD BE TAXED.

  42. rochburn 11/25/09, 07:46:AM
