Everything happens for a reason. I too have done some stupid things that, there but by the grace of God, I was blessed enough to have survived and not get hung up like this youngster. But unfortunately that woman died and now he has to serve time for that.

According to prosecutors for the case, Whitfield was looking for a place to hide after a robbery and broke into Parnell’s home causing her to have a heart attack. While he never touched the grandmother, he did cause the heart trauma and never called for help.

she didnt really have a bad heart but i’m curious though…do u call it kidnapping if someone is still in their house and you’re not preventing them from leaving? Also, how did they prove that her heart attack was because of him? Supposed her cable got cut an she missed an episode of Golden Girls an got tight…prob was like damn, nun else 2 live for n kicked the bucket. Its impossible to prove unless someone was actually there and even then its difficult. Number of things could have caused that…he could have gotten a number of charges that would have given him at least 25-30 years in jail but life, life is pretty deep but guess it serves him right for not tryna make an honest living.

If Grandma was to live another 20 years she would have been 99 years old. He should have been sentenced to 20 years in prison, Justice would be served because the victim would have lived maybe for another 20 years with good healthcare and no mishaps. He must serve some jail time for contributing to her death, but life in prison is a little harsh, when her death was not due to him directly. In other words her heart could have been weak long before said occurence.

Let’s see, a 79 yr old white woman dies of heart attack and a black convicted felon is found in her house.

How can he even be charged with kidnapping when the body was found in her own home?????? She couldn’t of given a statement saying so when she was dead.

The fact is they can’t PROVE that his actions caused a heart attack. And there is NO WAY that a lawyer couldn’t of argued reasonable doubt. This is ridiculous and a waste of tax payer money.

My argument doesn’t need to prove one way or another. Just that there is enough reasonable doubt that no one can say for sure that he is directly responsbile.

Which is OBVIOUSLY the case in this scenario. SMH at the lattitude given to prosecutors. Something should be done about this.

Oh well, the tax payers will have to support a 20 something and physically able man because of the ignorance of a prosecutor (that they also support). The laughs on them.

People should learn the laws and know what they’re up against before they go breaking them. Each state has it’s own set of laws that may not make sense to the rest of the country. But as long as you’re in that state you’re governed by their laws. I don’t feel sorry this fool. Most states have these strict laws as a deterrent and method of prevention. It’s really simple. It’s called “felony murder.” Home invasion, i.e. breaking into a home while the owner is there, is a felony. If someone dies during the commission of a felony, for ANY reason, including if God decides to call that soul home at that moment and the person would have died even if the felony hadn’t occurred, then it is felony murder.

The law is there to strongly discourage the committing of felonies by making the punishment extreme. If one is going to be brazen enough to act in such disregard to others, they deserve whatever consequences they have EARNED.

Despite the million and one charges u brought up, all law boils down to is reasonable doubt. If u can prove beyond that then it stand. I guess she was healthy with no heart complaints for months which prob sealed his conviction but she’s too old man. No one is saying he didnt do it or didnt deserve time. I really think the stress of the whole affair did actually kill her but its good now but could be bad later. Suppose she screamed and someone else came in to see what was happening…then they would be doing life for trying to help. Caught in the act, black man scares old woman to death. No one is disputing he’s at fault just would like something more concrete than the *****umption that his being there killed her. U nor no one else knows that, in this case it was positive but where there’s a positive there’s always be a negative regardless of what the probabilities are. We can count this as a day the courts came thru but if it was a situation where the person tried to help n no cell phone to call 911 with the cops busting thru the door. It would be a done deal despite everything.

I feel no sympathy for this criminal. The break-in triggered her heart attack. Plain and simple. When the victim dies during the commission of a crime the perpertrator is going to jail. Fair enough!

For those saying that the sentence is excessive due to his race you’re probably right. Knowing that blacks generally get harsher sentences for the same crimes others commit should be a deterrent. I’d like to have material goods and money that I didn’t earn too, but my fear of prison is stronger than my greed.

Well too bad for him maybe someone else will think twice before robbing someone in the first place.

Since the “punishment does not fit the crime” to some of our Bossip posters. What punishment should? 5 years, 10 years, 20 years? You have robbery, fleeing the police, breaking and entering, and negligent homicide. How much time should he get for all those things?
