We (Dominicans) eat Plantains, which the Portuguese Franciscan friars were responsible for the introduction of plantains from Africa to the Caribbean islands and other parts of the Americas. & eat soups that derive from African cuisine.

Dominican music use congas, tamboras, including a scraping instrument which is from Yoruba (a West African tribe). & our dances derived from Kalenda (a martial art, & also known as folk music and dance in the Caribbean which arose in the 1720s. But, it is more commonly practiced as a dance b/c of the violent outcome of stick fighting. Its roots are still that of a martial art originating from WHERE you may ask??? AFRICA!!!)

& that’s just a lil sumthin, sumthin for you.
