@RE- There are many people who think they are this or that. I remember when saying I was a Christian, but was doing things that were un-Christian like. In the word it reads consistenly to examine oneself and I did. I realized that “hey if I am a Christian I can’t do this or that or no longer can do this or that”. I can’t be lukewarm either I am or I am not and I AM for God and his word.

I find it hard to be black and Catholic. But I don’t put anyone else’s beliefs down because I think mine is right. That is not for me to pass judgement on anyone. But knowing that someone believes in God but practices in different ways is good enough for me.

The Lord that we believe in that has brought us through so much and that has shown us his powerful works and divine mercy is not a prejudiced or divisive Lord. He does the same thing for people that believe in him, even if they call him Allah…

Catholics and mulims have prayer in common. Devout Catholics gor to mass every morning, afternoon and night. They go to the Rosary every night. Does that make them bad because other religions don’t do it?

I think the problem with Islam is not the religion itself (the prayers are beautiful), but the fact that the majority of Muslims, who are moderate, do not speak out enough against the violence that the few fanatics are doing around the world (especially in Pakistan). A lot of moderate Muslims fear being lableled a traitor to their religion and blah blah blah so they fear speaking out against the fanatics, and therefore allow them to continually perpetuate the assumption that Islam is a violence-promoting religion. There are a lot of violent acts carried out in the name of Islam, so naturally after awhile, people will start to associate violence and Islam. The best way to combat this (if you’re a Muslim) is not to be apolegetic about the violence and try to justify it by saying, “Christians are violent too!” Look at the facts, as far as “terrorist” acts go, people who claim to be True Muslims, got that on lock! Instead, be a representative for what you believe is the truth of this religon. Let the voices of peace be louder than these voices of hatred and violence. Then people can look at Islam and see peace rather than think of violence. It may not be fair to assume that all Muslims are violent, but the world ain’t fair (we here should all know that). So represent Islam the way it should be, and speak out against the Muslims who are trying to force Islam to indeed be about violence and hatred.

It IS hard being black and catholic. I have been lucky enough to find a parish that is like 80% black in my hometown and the black catholic population here is very large, but I completely know what you mean. People have their pre-conceived notions about what faiths black people should follow…it cracks me up…

Yeah that’s me the devout wife. Now I am being the devout Catholic and not getting divorced. Well mainly because I will lose money. But when I was on my last ship, I had to give all the muslims on board mad respect. Especially when it comes to Rhamadan(sp). Fasting? Shoot I barely make it though one day on Ash Wednesday. But being my firends I made sure that they had a tray of food waiting for them at sundown. It is more of a respect for someone else that I would want to give to me.

As far as the husband? Well when it came to pork, I got a new pan just for so I could cook a pork chop in my old pan. BUt I will respect someone else’s beliefs as long as you respect mine.

Not all Muslims promote violence and hatred, that’s like saying all Catholic priests molest boys. I think if people start educating themselves on religion (Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, etc) you can actually learn something and see that we all connect somewhere. And yes, there’s a difference between Nation of Islam and the actual Islamic faith. N.O.I is more like a organization.
