The white/black Jesus thing is so weird to me. Race is a modern and very Forced concept with no real definition other than what we (any given people in any given area)think it is. And the “look” of a Nation somewhere as genetically diverse as the Mediterranean area could dramatically change in a couple generations. The Roman Empire brought a lot of Very distinct looking people into a tiny area and Israel was a tiny nation. Not to mention who knows what recessive traits popped up. Red hair? green eyes? freckles a large mole? Lots of body hair? a scraggly beard?

I’d think it makes sense that Jesus looked a lot like Mary (seeing as His Dad didn’t LOOK like anything). And Mary wasn’t chosen because she was pretty or the visual representation of what “divine” should be. Jesus probably looked nothing like what people would expect God or even a Leader to look like (see King Saul) or so many people wouldn’t be so openly and vehemently disdainful of the idea. It’s so crazy that people who have Read the Bible would be so adamant about Jesus having wooly hair (which I can’t remember reading for the life of me) or whatever but forget so much of what He actually Said. Like, “man looks at the outside, but God looks at the heart” or that the people who rejected Him because “nothing Good could come out of Nazareth” (ie WHAT he was rather than WHO he was) had eyes but were blind and ears but were deaf.

I honestly believe that if Jesus came back today in exactly the same way He came then, very little would be different. It’s a lot easier to miss God when you believe you know everything about who He is, what He would do and how it would look. The more I walk with God, the more I realize what it means for His ways and thoughts to be higher than mine- and the fact that it might shake my faith if Jesus were to appear to me as someone physically unattractive or imperfect, or just not what I expect, shames me. That is a disgusting way to think and a horrible way to be.

I (quite imperfectly) try my best to love and my best to serve God because He created me, because He suffered so I wouldn’t have to, and because He is merciful enough to love me. If he were short or had acne scars or missing teeth or looked more Asian than anything that SHOULDN’T change the tiniest bit. Because He is so sweet, so good to us and deserves better love than that.
