Ashanti may join the growing number of recording artists that are hanging up the mic:
“Ashanti is considering ditching music for movies to be a full-time movie star. The multi-talented 27-year-old has already starred in Resident Evil, John Tucker Must Die and Coach Carter – and she reveals she is so hooked on Hollywood she wants to work behind the camera as well as in front of it. Ashanti says, ‘I’m always reading scripts. I’m even looking to get into some behind-the-scenes work. Maybe do some co-producing. It’s all about taking chances. You can’t be afraid to try something different.’”
Who’s truly committed to making music anymore? It seems like more and more rappers/singers are using it as a stepping stone to enter the world of Hollyweird. It’s like everyone who steps up to the mic thinks they can automatically act or some sh*t. We’re feeling Ashanti’s idea about getting “behind the scenes.” Based on her on-screen performances – it’s her best bet – seriously.

It is time to wakeup everyone. How many roles are available for African-American actors/actresses in Hollywood? I know the answer, none! There are so many well established actresses (Nia Long, Regina King, Sanaa Lathan, etc) who barely receive the roles they should. Ashanti needs to find something else to do or make her momma get a job.
Um, she can’t sing or dance so this is the best thing she can do for herself at this point. She looks good but she can only ride those looks for so long until we’re bored. I’ve seen her acting and ur uh…….

I usually agree with a lot of what you say but I think on one point you maybe wrong. I, personally, disagree that it is the black males fault, totally, that we are lighter than our African brethen. I think a lot of us are lighter because our ancestors (the African women) were raped by the slave owners. It is a known fact, for example, that Thomas Jefferson had one family with his white wife and one family (doubt he saw them as family but you know what I mean) with his black slave woman. I agree that there are a lot of interracial relationships now but I feel a lot of the race blending and variety in shades of black started back then with the raping of the black female slaves.

I believe slavery rape plays some role in it.. I believe that was the reason blacks may have been light many years ago – but I don’t believe its all the reason now.. You cannot, effectively, say that race mixing from almost 400 years ago is the reason we are lighter now but not once attribute it to the more recent race mixing at all..

There were many Black men that had kids with white and other non white women back in slavery times. Oh yes, you have to also consider that some of those Black slaves were light skinned. And some of those offsprings “p*****ed” for White. And of course Brown and Black skinned people that were shacking up with fellow white slaves. And yes there were White and other non Black slaves on the plantation also.

I really feel sorry for so many of the females in the music game. Many of them are young attractive females but with so-so voices.
