April Ryan: Desiree Rogers is Trying to Outshine Michelle Obama!!!

Posted on December 5th, 2009 - By Bossip Staff

Categories: Bolitics, Crazy Videos, Entertainment, For Discussion, Michelle Obama, Michelle Obama, News, SMH, Video

April Ryan is a White House correspondent for the American Urban Radio Network, and Robert Gibbs is the White House press secretary:

April Ryan put Robert “Geeky” Gibbs on front street when she asked about Desiree Rogers outshining Michelle Obama. Gibbs acted like he had no clue what April was pertaining to in her question. It was like she was speaking Swahili. A war of words followed with April having to get gully on Poindexter.

Many are saying Robert tried to talk down to her because of her race. We don’t know about all of that, but we do have the video below

Who cares about fashion?? We are in a recession. Discuss…

  2. mimiless 12/5/09, 09:21:AM

    snap 1st

  3. sassalene 12/5/09, 09:27:AM

I applaud the reporter and I think her questions were very relevant. And notice he got away with not answering the question by mocking her and comparing her to his son.

  4. Princess Ri Ri 12/5/09, 09:29:AM

This woman should be fired and banned from the White House, it’s journalist like her that give Black people a bad name. Do you think anyone from ABC News would ask such a dumb and rude question?

  5. M.Butler 12/5/09, 09:33:AM

What is this woman talking about she is making us look bad. She should focus on more important things.

  6. maa1112 12/5/09, 09:34:AM

He was talking to her like that because she was being annoying and obnoxious. It has nothing to do with her race, if you listen, she was bullying him.

  7. charlotte 12/5/09, 09:43:AM

I agree with everyone here. She asked dumb questions and had the nerve to get snippy with Gibbs. I’ve never seen that with other reporters at these press conferences.

  8. Rena 12/5/09, 09:44:AM

She should have acted like she had some dam*** sense! She came across as combative.

  9. DelightfulD 12/5/09, 09:45:AM

She was belligerentt; therefore she got the response she deserved. Maybe the child reference was tacky, but she wouldn’t allow the man to respond without talking over him. Congressional hearings have been held; let the foolishness go.

  10. DelightfulD 12/5/09, 09:48:AM

    Ummm…that’s belligerent. My fault.

  11. Doc 12/5/09, 09:54:AM

i saw this live actually she was rude he was trying to answer her question but she keep on talking over him. its not about race. its being rude.

  12. Get Real 12/5/09, 09:54:AM

He didn’t talk down. I am so tired of the unprofessional, stank black girl attidude. Leave that $hit in da hood. It remind me of the black woman going off on that white man in Crackle Barrel cause he didn’t hold the door for her child. Then she got popped in her damn mouth. Now she wanna cry racism. It was probably a matter of time before someone snapped on her azz. I see it too much.

  13. DelightfulD 12/5/09, 09:54:AM

FYI – the reporter’s name is April Ryan, not Roberts. She works for the American Urban Radio.

  14. I'm Just Me: Keeping It Real Since 1983 12/5/09, 09:55:AM

She was asking very National Enquirer type questions! She wasn’t asking about the safety or security issue. Just who outshined who. I could care less about that. I care more about the ability of people to sneak in and sneak out of the White House. IF that wasn’t going to be discussed, the conversation should have stayed on the very important issues.

  15. I'm Just Me: Keeping It Real Since 1983 12/5/09, 09:57:AM

COME ON BOSSIP! THE COMMENTS ARE ALL SPACED OUT AND ALL OVER THE PLACE…I CAN BARELY READ PEOPLE’S THOUGHTS!!!

  16. Angee 12/5/09, 09:58:AM

Yeah, some of these media types are trying to throw Desiree Rogers under the bus because of those crashers to the state dinner. They are trying to say that the incident was as much her fault as the secret service. They want the President to fire her, or at least suspend her. Some think the President is giving her special treatment

In my opinion the matter has been handled, leave Desiree alone.

  17. shavonpierce 12/5/09, 10:14:AM

I dont get why April Roberts asked that question. It was disrespectful to me for her to ask such a childish useless question about someone outshining the First Lady. I mean did she expect him to say “yes, the white house thinks she tried to outshine Michelle”?? NO! Who cares?? It shows a lack of professionalism to me when someone ask a school yard question like that I mean did anyone ever worrying about someone outshining Laura Bush. It is absolutely one of the banes of African Americans is our ability to try to tare each other down and compete with one another instead of realizing everyone has their own lane.

  18. shavonpierce 12/5/09, 10:16:AM

And HE FRYED HER by the way!! I think he would have done that to anyone who would have asked him a question so irrelevent whether they were Black, white, male, or female.

  19. Big Daddy 12/5/09, 10:19:AM

She was trying to be aggressive in her questioning, and the only thing that will get her, is her press card pulled from further White House briefings.
Time and place for everything, and to be granted admission to be a White House correspondent, means that there thousands of other reporters waiting to get your gig, now’s not the time to let your lips ruin your checking account.

  20. getting down 12/5/09, 10:22:AM

I agree that the reporter April Roberts should not have been asking about Social Secretary Desiree Rogers being in a photo spread earlier this year. That was irrelevant, but April’s other questions were relevant.

With that being said,… I have watched Robert Gibbs many, many, many times during press conferences, on TV interviews, on CNN and even on Fox news when the Fox reporters were trying to tear him a new a.s.s.hole and rip President Obama apart (especially just before Pres. Obamaa won and shortly there after). Robert Gibbs has NEVER talked down to anyone the way he did that report April Roberts. If anything, Robert Gibbs always tried to remain humble and respectful.

So yes, I think he spoke to April Roberts this way because of her race!…. AND IT WASN’T BECAUSE SHE PUSHED HIM FOR AN ANSWER BECAUSE OTHER “WHITE” REPORTERS PUSH EVEN HARDER FOR ANSWERS FROM HIM ALL THE TIME, ESPECIALLY THE WHITE MEN. And the white men ALWAYS come off as aggressive, pushy, and argumentative.

  21. I'm Just Me: Keeping It Real Since 1983 12/5/09, 10:28:AM

WAS THIS RACIAL OR WAS IT SEXIST??

  22. DR.FUNK 12/5/09, 10:29:AM

If April wants to ask those kinds of questions-she should be working for TMZ…or BOSSIP. Then she tries to play the “indignant sistah” card.TEAM GIBBS.He owned her.

  23. Lady_of_Rage 12/5/09, 10:33:AM

I saw the entire press conference, in regards to this line of questions that April asked was totally inappropriate and tabloid gossip that shouldn’t have been asked at all. And she even tried to get very loud and over talk the press secretary. This had nothing to do with race at all.

  24. Secret 12/5/09, 10:34:AM

Wow is she serious????? How sad for her to play herself that way!!!! We did she get her degree from a cereal box. EPIC FAIL!!!!! He wrecked her thought. LOL GIRL BYE!!!

  25. Secret 12/5/09, 10:36:AM

my bad……where did she get her degree….

  26. Huh? 12/5/09, 10:40:AM

Yeah, she asked for that shyt….

  27. DC Sandra 12/5/09, 10:42:AM

@ getting down: it’s a shame there are so many ppl with this mentality that willingly reach out to set glass ceilings above their head, and it’s usually too late when you finally realize it was all between the ears

I guess you see what you want to see…and you reap what you sow mentally. If you wanna make it about race, you can go ahead and live the rest of the entirety of your life focused on precieving situations such as this as a sign of racism. Make your excuses, it’s your life and your own determination.

My opinion: She proposed such a low-level stupid comment that it would irritate ANYONE in his position. It’s a good thing I wasn’t sittin in that room, I woulda done 20x worse than Gibbs in my insinuations. My tolerance for idiotic, mindless commentary from ppl who are just trying to push a personal issue and then when it kicks back to em, try to save face–yea that level is clearly obsolete. And at that, NO ONE was even thinking about/even considered/entertained that thought except HER, prior to her dumb@ss question. Like someone said before, she took the focus off a security issue and started talkin reckless gossip. She needs to find another sport cuz her field ain’t in politics

  28. getting down 12/5/09, 10:43:AM

Some of you sound so stupid when you said this press conference had nothing to do with race. You people may have “a leg to stand on” if you watched Robert Gibbs during “NUMEROUS” other interviews and you knew his interviewing style while answering questions.

I too watched this press conference in it’s entirety on TV and watched it again on here, and like I said previously, he disrespected April!

I’m not saying Robert Gibbs is an racist but we ALL know how white people get when they feel a black person is challenging them or don’t take their word at face value. In a white persons mind their word is suppose to be gold and black people are not suppose to question them, PERIOD! And when you do, this is DEFINITELY how they react.

  29. DC Sandra 12/5/09, 10:50:AM

exactly: “you know how white people get”

I guess ALL white people huh. And before we even give them a chance to respond practically, we should all just expect them to do this, and jump the gun and be defensive before they even do anything.

I need say nothing more about your mindset. I think you just proved my point. Good luck with that!

  30. LOSER CHRIS BROWN 12/5/09, 10:52:AM

TYPICAL WHITE PEOPLE.. THEY REMIND US EVERYDAY WHERE THE TERM “WHITE DEVILS” STEMS FROM.. SMH

  31. DR.FUNK 12/5/09, 10:53:AM

    @getting down:

Put your VICTIM CARD away. Her IDIOTIC line of questioning was indefensible.

  32. getting down 12/5/09, 10:53:AM

    @ DC Sandra

You claim you were in the room, I don’t know that for sure. However I’m speaking from what was presented before me.

If you read my comment “in whole” you would have noticed where I wrote her initial question about Desiree Rogers being in a photo spread earlier this year was irrelevant.

When Robert Gibbs became disrespectful and felt CHALLENGED BY A BLACK WOMAN, April had moved on and asked ANOTHER QUESTION!

By the way Miss DC Sandra, you ignorant people walk around with blinders on or your brain is not fully functioning when YOU ALWAYS CLAIM RACE IS NOT A FACTOR! Please!

More than half of the time, IT IS!

  33. as seen on t.v. 12/5/09, 10:55:AM

Everything involving black and white people is not a race issue and this certainly isn’t one…He talks to everyone in that manner that is his style…However, her questions were for tabloid fodder…They had no merit and she insulted the first lady…I think he was right to call her out for acting childish…He was trying to answer her questions and she wouldn’t allow him to finish…Some can try to make this a race issue if they want but clearly from my point of view…She asked some dumb a$$ questions and he called her on it plain and simple…Would it had been racist if Robert Gibbs were black and still spoke to her in that manner?…I think not…

  34. getting down 12/5/09, 10:58:AM

I see most people are solely focusing on the ONE question April asked and can not compute mentally that she had moved on and asked another question when Robert SHOWED HIS TRUE COLOR!

I had ALWAYS been a fan of Robert Gibbs, ALWAYS! However this interview has allowed me to take a second look at him.

As I have previously said, I have watched him many, many, many times so I am very familiar with his “interviewing style”.

  35. getting down 12/5/09, 11:01:AM

People, People, People…..Reporters cut Robert Gibbs off; force him to answer questions; speak harshly and aggressively to him ALL THE TIME and he doesn’t respond to them this way.

Some of you should take the time to know HIS style on TV before you try to make a judgment about him.

    So True.

  37. DC Sandra 12/5/09, 11:06:AM

    @gettin down
All I’m sayin is: it can be whatever you want it to be. And-I believe my statement was “IF I was in that room,” but no, unfortunately i’m too politically incorrect/free of thought and speech regulation to actually be in politics

I understand that that racism/sexism still exist. Yes I have experienced it. But I’ve learned that a prejudice mindset is limiting–no matter who carries it. From your statements it seems you prejudge in any and all situations where confrontation occurs between a white person and a black person. Which is not the case, I know you agree. I know it DOES happen where ppl fall back into that driver-slave situation, but shiz dont happen like that ALL the time–my experience, not even MOST of the time. I give everyone, racist or not, a chance to show me their valid reaction/show me their true colors. Everyone deserves that right. If I come at anyone on the defense (as she did) I EXPECT all to treat me at a disadvantage though, it’s human nature.

Back to the issue at hand, his response (and I watched not all, but most of this conference, just to try get a better feel of his reactions). The way you’re talkin is like you dont even give a person a chance to react rationally. I heard other relevant questions being asked that were ACTUALLY attacking him, and you can see him get flourished and “red” bc they were VALID questions that DESERVED an answer. Does Gossip deserve the same right? The same blushing reaction. Or does it deserve a “I’m not even gonna entertain your unprofessionalism, bc you and I both know that you’re talkin cream puffs when I’m about to order filet mignon”. That’s why I think it should be known (I mean for me, I am a black female), she got what she deserved. Ask a hard relevant question and you’ll be respected. Come up to the plate with a BAT–not a cartoon Picture of one.

  38. Oh Stop 12/5/09, 11:10:AM

Honestly, I was embrassed by the “reporters” behavior. Save those antics for you “blog.” I couldn’t believe she behaved in that manner, and the response she was given was appropriate…”take a breath….I do this with my five year old all the time” LMAO…that’s exactly how she was acting…billegerent, percisely why reporters of her caliber should NOT be given accessed…SMH. He’s right, why entertain the foolishness….we have an additional 30,000 troops being deployed to Aphaghanistan…trust, Mitchelle isn’t worried about Desiree, and neither is the public. On to more important things……and by the way the press secretary has that position for a reason, he is articulate, intelligent, and knows politics and President Obama inside and out, Bossip, know your stuff before you start spruilling your ignorance…you are replacable!

  39. DR.FUNK 12/5/09, 11:11:AM

  40. WordtotheWise 12/5/09, 11:16:AM

My only comments are to those who want to make this a racial issue. Why can’t we just take people on face value and stop with the generalizations. I am truly convinced that many black people are mentally disturbed. Her being black has nothing to do with the issue at hand, period. The same “black people” (if indeed many of the ignorant posts here are actually from black people) who want to call this woman out, are the same ones who would be defending negative comments about whites with their own lives. Grow and and try to buy a clue. Quit associating what one or more black people do wit the whole race. That’s was racist whites do.

  41. getting down 12/5/09, 11:17:AM

    @ DC Sandra

As much as you want to believe that I prejudge situations, No I don’t. I allow a person to show themselves before I respond and/or react. Just as I said I am basing my opinion on Robert’s RE-ACTION. Get it!

I too watched Robert become flourished and “red” numerous during many lines of questioning in many different arenas and his reaction isn’t this way.

You may believe you are filet mignon however, I prefer to stay away from anything that takes days to digest and is “at times” constantly filled with bacteria and being recalled.

  42. Kristina G 12/5/09, 11:19:AM

I saw the clip on CNN and I was immediately embarrassed and ashamed by the REPORTER! Her questions were so meaningless and truly demeaned the African America community. It perpetuates the “ghetto” stigma we have tried to eliminate for so long. There are enough poeple in this world who work daily to do that so we didn’t need her to be an extra participant. So to see an African American female reporter rolling her eyes and neck because he rightly let her know the questions she asked were irrelevant, all I can say is that I was truly embarrassed.

  43. WordtotheWise 12/5/09, 11:20:AM

Stupid questions get stupid answers. What a disgraceful and stupid question from her.

  46. WordtotheWise 12/5/09, 11:22:AM

@Kristina G, why were you embarrassed? Does this one woman represent the whole of our community?

Do you think that if she were white, the white community would’ve been embarrassed?

You sound just like the racist white people who believe when ONE black person does something, the entire black race IS THAT WAY…. But when a white person does something wrong, most white people chalk it up to just THAT ONE WHITE PERSON being that way and not the entire white race. Do you hear how you sound!

  49. WordtotheWise 12/5/09, 11:26:AM
