My son’s 8th grade prom is tomorrow night. I can proudly say that I am the most fortunate woman on earth to have been blessed with a son who’s not only very bright but articulate, mannerable and impressionable. Trust me–I am pulling out all the stops for his 8th grade prom because he deserves it!!! On the weekends he washes cars, cleans up two barbershops and cuts grass in our neighrborhood. There is an older couple that just cannot afford to pay him but since he keeps their grass tight, I PAY HIM!!!
Shoot- I ordered his Tux and Gators last week and I’m picking it up in the morning. From there -it’s all about him ’cause he honestly and truly deserves it. I’m sure I’ll post some pics on my MySpace page.

Honestly, I think most of there dresses are pretty couture esque, but no one would admit that unless it was some skinny white bitches wearing the same dresses on a designers runway at fashion week.

As far as having anything negative to say about this picture and anything that closely resembles it–If I feel the need to speak on it well than I damn sure will! I wouldn’t care if every other ethnicity in the world chooses to dress a certain way–that doesn’t make it acceptable for our own.
Personally, (as far as MY children) I hold them in a higher regards to ANYONE and MY expectations of them and from them go way beyond what’s normally acceptable.

well im from brick city. and i have come across these pictures from this school’s prom in the newspaper years past. from what i recall some DO pay a lot of money to have these dresses custom made. and yes my first impression was WTF. BUT unless you live in newark, and yes we do have glamour esquire elle blender vogue ectect, you can’t really relate to these kids. they live in a tight spot. bad things always on the news. sorry but i can’t take the COLORful perspective that they want to bring to their one night–a special night since many of these kids are lucky to have made it so far— probably the first in their family– and might not be going to college after graduating. it’s their one night to do it up BIG. some have even road in with their ghetto fab gear in horse drawn carriages. i kno crazy looking. it’s ironic for all these people who regularly show up to trash the black woman for wanting the “european” look, to now use the european standard of fashion–british english prudence– to put down fellow blacks. who just want to celebrate prom differently. and yes some do look old. and some of the things they’ve lived through make even older.

I think that you should not talk about the designers, They take the ideas of the kids and sometimes the parents. If you take the time to look and pay attenton instead of running your mouth you will see these are young black designers that really have talent most sew all day and night and make a good living from what they do. Yes some of the outfits may not be the best for the age of the children, But some of these designs are things we see A-List Celebs wearing, Yet we have “hood rat designers” As you would call them make clothes without a patten or anything.. So i say don’t pass judgement on the designers let’s talk about these parents letting their girls wear this type of clothing…………

Leave these kids alone! They are expressing their creativity, and there’s nothing wrong with that. I find all of their outfits great, and can see that all of them have a great future ahead of them. These kids had a vision and let nothing get in the way of their creativity. Now, instead of encouraging that drive and creativity among our young people, almost everyone who’s posted here, including Bossip has resorted to insulting them. People thought he was crazy, and he was sent to an insane asylum. Years later, hand washing is mandatory in not only hospitals, but restaurants and countless of other industries. These kids are our future, and their vision is what will shape our future. Let’s help them grow instead of putting them down.

I would have to say no not really due to the make-up, hair style choices, stitching of material and body shapes for the designs but the concept damn sure is on point. So it seems that the students there use the prom to showcase their skills as designers by making their own dresses and suits. Some did good others did worse. I’m not gonna like I like the burgundy and beige couple and the yellow crop jacket and capri bottom is def club material- different shoes tho.
