I never noticed Rihanna jacking Kelis style, but nonetheless, i’m a kelis fan since the beginning and i’m definately buying her cd once it comes out. It’s obvious she still had some baby weight, but Kelis ALWAYS has it together when she’s performing or doing vids.

A lot of these new chicks on the scene have copied Kelis’s style. She was one of the first of this decade to fuse R&B, pop and rock, with a dash of hip hop. Aaliyah was heading in this direction before she died as well. Kelis was ahead of her time and she had a terrible team. If she had emerged in 2006 instead of 1999/2000, and she had the right team behind her, she could have easily been as big as Riri and Bey. Kelis was huge in europe by the way. But she never had all her ducks in a row, so her success never peaked. To now see riri and Lady gaga blowing up off of her style has to sting.

She’s a puppet to the music and fashion industry. But she’s got her marketing stock up and she’ll be paid as long as she’s in the papers and in the magazines.

I find it funny when people speak on something they aren’t even current on. Kelis’s first song WAS NOT ‘Milkshake’. I can remember when I was in high school and college (late 90′s) I would listen to her music because it was different. She was funky with a controversial edge and didn’t care what people had to say. Like someone else said earlier her problem was that she didn’t have a good promotional team. That is key to having mega success…

First of all hating gets you nowhere. Rihanna most definitely got more props for wearing a hairstyle that Kelis rocked way before her, thats fine, and that’s all she’s expressing. Rihanna is a product and can’t sing, she’s a pretty girl, but feel victim to the whole “machine”. Kelis has her days but definitely has been in the game a long time. If you think she has just two songs then you cant even comment. thats just silly. I have to say, Kelis speaks FAR more intelligently than alot of other black artists out there. She is very articulate and obviously intelligent. I love her style and confidence. I also like the fact that she’s well rounded in her taste in music. She may not be super talented. But what she lacks in talent, she makes up for in innovation and creativity. Very few black artists are like this nowadays. Alot of carbon copying in the RnB and rap world.

Did somebody say Madonna swagger-jacked Kelis?! Madonna came out when Kelis was still 13 and living in Harlem! Madonna has re-invented herself and her look so many times, it’s hard to do anything without jacking Ms. Ciccone, okay? And Josephine Baker was dancing and singing with nothing more on than a banana leaf skirt and a Marcel press waaaay before ANY of these other chicks, so sit down Kelis!
