This is exactly why celebrity is not what it’s cracked up to be. I have a very close family member who is bigger than Alicia Keys and the pressures that go with being a celebrity are incredible. I think this is why they live in their own confused world. Not my relative, but most of them trip really bad. My relative only trips at certain times because they have been in the limelight for quite sometime now. I avoid their a.s.s. like they have the plague or something and the one thing that does, is makes them understand that I won’t partake in all the a.s.s. kissing that they get. No I don’t need you to take me on a shoping spree. No I don’t need to go out to dinner with your entourage in your limo. I can meet you there. No I don’t want to fly out for the Grammys first class with front row tickets. I have seen enough celebrity to last me two lifetimes and I’m telling you that their lives are not normal, if anything their lives are abnormal and dysfuncional. The one thing that you can’t get from a celebrity is realness, because every move and step that they take is carefully orchestrated and conceived in order to create spin or interest in that particular celebrity. Alicia is no different than the rest of them.

It’s hard being a celeb. Even when you’re not an A list celeb, it’s still difficult. From people wanting to be your friend because of your status to venues & companies wanting you to rep their brand or attend their event. It’s a very difficult life and the money is really the only thing that makes it worth the struggle.
So I don’t blame Alicia for what she did. You have to be comfortable in your space to deal with what fame brings.

I think there’s a TON of entertainers from her generation who utterly lack an IOTA of humility —- many of whom will NOT be played on the radio 25 years from now, the way so many of the Motown, Stax or Chess legends of the past are now played (and STOLEN from).

I feel like this…just because someone offers me something for free, I’m not obligated to accept it…especially if it’s something VERY personal like a living space. These celebs LIVE on the road. You are entitled to be comfortable wherever you will be calling “home,” albeit, temporarily.

If she was willing to go somewhere else and pay $20K per night, why do we care? I mean, I’m sure the hotel people got their feelings hurt, but their “GIFT” was not really “FREE.” By her staying at their hotel (no matter how WHACK), they would have gotten all kinds of publicity out of it.
