I’m from Trinidad, and everyone there is mixed, to diff degrees – some are mixed w several races, some have mixed ancestry (for example, my dad’s grandfather was straight from Scotland and married a black Trinidadian woman, my mom’s great grandmother was native Carib, and theres a bunch of other mixes in there that we don’t know about, but when babies are born, there are some throwback features).

Mixing is great. It’s the thing that’s going to save the race issue. Ppl where I come from are proud to be mixed up mutts, we feel like it makes us more interesting, and i think it does. True. Hugo Chavez does not look white. In their country they call their black people “Afro-Venezuelan”. Alfonzo Ribiero, Laz Alonzo, Dania Ramirez, Zoe Saldana, and Jon Secada would all be considered black even though they are from Latin countries.

Way to go with the stereotypes! I can’t help but think that if a white person said those things and that all blacks were good dancers, singers and basketball players, you would have a problem with that.

Mariah is “musically inclined” because her white mother was an opera singer who would take Mariah everywhere with her to her perfomances, recordings etc. Was her black father a singer?

Alicia is “musically inclined” because her white mother took her to piano lessons and performing arts school. Would her black father have had her take piano lessons? Who knows?

As far as I know, both Mariah and Alicia’s mother do not have the “black gene”.

I have a black dad and a white mom and I claim them both. I would never deny my mother, who gave birth to me and raised me, for anything. Her parents went through hell when they married back in the 1970′s because her father was black. Racists poisoned their dog, burglarized their homes and threatened to kill her father. On holidays her white grandmother gave her father soap year after year for gifts, implying that he smelled.
