They want the union to save their jobs (haha) I’m sure that the relatives of the woman wanted them to save her life. People are clowns these days, always wanting something but not willing to give something. The family should sue NY for having supposedly trained paramedics, failing to do what they were trained to do. I learned CPR 15 years ago and i’m not 100% sure that I remember everything correctly, but if someone needed resucitated, I would surly attempt to help.

To play devil’s advocate…They are not doctors they are EMTs do they not get a break? What if they weren’t there? She would have died regardless.

I live in NYC and these FDNY folks are pigs… The girl was black and in metrotech , she was not worth the effort, but let it have been one of those white ladies , they would have rushed to save her life…

It shouldn’t matter if they were on their break or not. It shouldn’t even be a question as to whether there was a “legal” obligation.. what about a “MORAL” obligation?? As a medic/ EMT you are trained to save people’s lives whether they have had personal contact with clients for years doesn’t matter… that is what you are trained for!!! Why do you have a job performing a certain duty, if you don’t know how to perform it???? As a caring human being, if I were to see a bad accident and the person inside the car looks like they are unable to get out, I would pull my car over and try and help them!! Not because I have a LEGAL obilagation just because I would want someone to help me if I needed help. The two EMT’s should be ashamed of themselves and while I wish NO ILL WILL on anyone… they deserve to lose their jobs, ESPECIALLY because a women lost her and her fetus life, a 3 year old boy lost his mother, and it could have all been prevented if they would have helped. FUC THEM!!!!

Has anyone seen these two EMTs? I haven’t seen a single picture of them….as far as the FDNY is concerned it is over 90% white males….however the FDNY’s EMTs are much more diverse so I wouldn’t be surprised what color they are or not. Until I see a picture I am just going to assume that these two were just lazy good for nothing people…but looking at their names I think they may be black and that would negate that whole if she were a white woman thing so many people have brought up.

Niasia, surely you are joking, right? EMTs are medically trained (trust, I’ve dealt with many of them this year). That’s why they show up at scenes of accidents and so on. They at least know CPR. I guess if your relative was in a life threatening moment and someone who could help was available and taking a break, you’d be more than happy to let them finish their break, right? Are you serious? What if they weren’t their is irrelevant. THEY WERE THERE, so again, they are medically trained, and there is no excuse for ignoring this woman.

They should have done all they could to help save the woman and called for additional help. There is no excuse for what they did and shame on people like Niasia!

WOW! Just WOW!!

They are CERTIFIED EMT’s. Which means that they have been trained and certified to act in emergency situations – regardless of the fact that they are dispatchers.

It’s really unfortunate that they didn’t know how to handle the situation. If they had tried and failed it would have been MUCH BETTER than what they did – which was to simply ignore the pleas for help.

We don’t know if the mother would have survived or not – but because she’s HUMAN – it was worth a try.

Whats crazy is that ANYONE that knew CPR or had a medical background most likely would have helped her, even retired doctors! If you have knowledge and the skill to help someone who is dying then damn why in the hell wouldnt you?? Its seems like they hate their job and they didnt work off the clock. It doesnt make since because its not like they work at Burger King and someone told them to go make a Whopper while they were on break. People are heartless.

I haven’t seen anything that suggests why they would refuse to provide service. I will be the devils advocate on their behalf though. The way lawsuits work in this country if they were off the clock it could very well be that they would have had personal liability to those people had something gone wrong. We all know that with that in mind most of us could not afford a personal liability suit of millions over a life. I know it sounds horrible, but if I had to work for free the rest of my life due to multimillion dollar loss of life lawsuit, because I tried to save the life of someone I tried to save I would probably not help them either.
On the other side of that coin if the federal, and state governments provided laws against lawsuits such as this I would be more inclined to ask. Before you decide to hate me though consider that if you lose your life in a disaster that the U.S. government only values your life at 1200$. Yet people that work in medicine are expected to pay millions if they make a mistake on 1 person, or if complications arise.

I just don’t see how they were able to just sit and not do anything! That wouldn’ve been on my conscience for a LONG time! Probably till I died, for real!

Oh also keep in mind EMT’s are not making great money. I want to say my friend after 12 years said he was making 21$ an hour. That is less than my dad made for driving electrical parts around for the local power company.

You would be surprised how much your conscience can handle just ask a military person that has been deployed into our grey area war. They have had to participate in killing maybe’s for a while now. Whats worse is some of our service members have to kill Americans if things go wrong on stateside.

Ppl are assuming that the EMTs were white? No they were not. Which tells me stupid and ignorant comes in many colors.

Didn’t the spokesman for the EMT’s say that they were dispatchers?

Dispatchers tell the EMT’s where to go they do not actually get into the ambulances and help patients.

I don’t know if the dispatchers have previous EMT experience. But unless you have some medical experience the only thing you can do is comfort and call 911 like everyone else.

I agree with Ike if I take my office desk sitting a s s and try to revive or CPR somebody and I don’t know what the hell I’m doing and that person dies. They will be trying to sue my a s s and take my $7.00, I think not!!

they are dispatchers, which means their training certs may not be active, they answer calls on the phone…re …they do not respond to calls to give treatment…big, big difference
