Timbaland is on set with Katy Perry for their new jawn “If We Ever Meet Again”. Timbaland said in a recent interview that he is done with hip hop and it looks like he is keeping that promise.

I was done with Hip Hop a long time ago. Once my generation left, I left. I do it, but there’s nobody from my generation besides Jay who’s doing it. I look at Lil Wayne as being from my generation. Some people are still acceptable. Kanye is acceptable from my generation.

He must have run out of beats, so now it’s time to recycle them in another genre.

    1st! Who cares?

  • KeepNit2Real

I can see what Timbo is saying. But if you love music…you NEVER run out of something you love doing in the sense that you can’t recreate another potion that people will love.

I think his style got old and the young folk doesn’t feel it…so he’s moving on to another arena.

But Timbo can produce good music…so he can always stay relevant.

all of them do the same thing. Use black folsk for the fame and then switch up and seal the deal with pop.. hEck even JAy-z fake hood a-z-z want to be pop….

black folks used music beats will do just well for them white kidz

  • Jay the Real One

Good for hip hop let him go and ruin pop music.

  • B3 Fearless

I’m into dance music but him and Katy Perry sound a mess on this track! The music is nice tho, but I can’t say I love it.

  • http://www.livewithtim.com DJTim Rahshad

I’m with you timbo. Im done with strictly hiphop as well. It’s not fun anymore. Even at the hip hop clubs, I don’t have a great time. Too many people worried about stunting rather than wanting to have a good time.

  • Sylmarvelous

I don’t like how Timbaland is sounding in this track. Maybe if it was just Katy Perry…

Tim just don’t sound right, its like it should be a original for kidz bop

  • troof

sick of tim and this “done with hip-hop talk”. it marginalizes a whole genre. keep it up, we may not want you back , you frank neck fu#$ker. you are just another brother, catering to white folks, until they leave you high and dry.

  • LadyLOGICbeatzREASON

If he was selling units, maybe we’d still care about this dude. LOLLL

He might as well start voguing or some mess!

Plus, how can you make dance tracks then convince yourself it’s hiphop?! Further proof that not every songwriter or producer needs to be an artist.

Timberland: “Forget hiphop, Ima make gay dance tracks!”
*picturing the twink frenzy that will ensue*

    oooooh weeeee!
    Wow.

Tim put out some nice programmed beats back in the day but then everything started sounding the same. Tim isn’t a musician but someone who didn’t master the art of beats but mastered the ability to read a manual.

  • chaka1

Hip Hop is officially dead. It doesn’t even have its own billboard chart anymore. They combined it with R&B, which is a mistake.

I’ll be happy once ghetto “culture” is dead and buried as well.

  • chrishawn bellway

WHAT DO HE THINK HE CHRIS BROWN OR SOMETHING, JUST PLAIN SILLY…

  • Yawn

He is right though. Put aside all opinions about his personal music talent. Hip Hop has been sh!t for years now — after 2002-2003 it fell off a cliff.

The Jay-Z/NAS feud produced that last little bit of good Hip Hop. Even acts like Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli and the Roots don’t produce anything approaching their early 2000 stuff. Its over. Hip Hop is going to have to be reinvented from the ground up to reclaim the popularity it had in the mid-late 90′s.

  • Yawn

Also despite his nearly 5 year old “I’m done with hip hop” declaration, he has produced and appeared in some rap songs recently. He produced JayZ’s “Reminder” and “Off That” from the Blueprint 3 and appeared on “More Bottles” by Wyclef.

@ yawn and dont forget drake’s “say something”

  • The Real…RealTalk

It’s always bamas that cant move units saying hip hop is dead.If his fat neck a$$ was still sellin them lame recycled a$$ beats he wouldn’t be saying jack $hit. And we really need to fallback with throwing the word “ghetto” out there so much. It’s an environment people not how someone dresses, speaks, or behaves cause through us white people have gotten too comfortable with using the word and with white ppl its just code for black and or n i g g e r

  • Jamaquina.Cubana

    @ The Real…RealTalk …

RE: the word ‘ghetto’… Yes it really has become a code word for them! B/c an individual I work w/started to get more comfortable w/me apparently and felt free enough to say it. And being the smartass that I am, I just had to ask “What do you mean when you say ‘ghetto’?”
Well, I was met w/a whole sea of “Oh, well, um, you know…ghetto (whispered)… but NOT like ‘ghetto’ ghetto! You know…..”

    What’s ‘ghetto’ ghetto?! lol

  • what that?

THIS DUDE IS ALWAYS POSIN’ WITH SOMEBODY WHITE …HE IS JUST LIKE TOILET PAPER, HE IS ALWAYS IN SOMEONE’S ASS…I KNOW THAT I AM HARD ON HIM AND ALL…BUT HE IS VERY CREATIVE AND HE IS JUST TRYIN’ TO MAKE HIS BUCKS…HE WILL BE KNOW A LEGEND BY WHITE FOLKS…

It’s not hate to say that a particular sound has run its course w/in hiphop. (appears he recognizes this fact as well, or it wouldn’t be dead for him.) If the brotha wants to make dance tracks, I say go for it! And why not w/ Katie Perry? Gotta go where the money is! That’s just life!

So… When Kanye’s emotionally unstable self says something, we’re all supposed to be mindless drones and follow him. Really? Seriously?
Genius is invention and REinvention. Not stagnation. Not repetition. Nobody is saying dude isn’t good (great even) at what he does–but he’s kind of a one trick pony with his sound as an artist. Production-wise, I’m ready to hear him do something that’s actually new and NOT repetitive.

Is hiphop really dead, or has it been driven underground?

  • ya moms

No every one doesn’t have to follow Kanye’s wacks self…but the majority of people do.

That link/comment was thrown out there for all the ban wagon ridders.

Tim is great at what he does…if he isn’t who is? Your comments are dull and reaching.

One Trick pony….ha. Really…have you heard the Shock Value 2 album. Did you hear the stuff on Jay Z’s album…did you hear the Tpain cut.

Far from a one trick…you sound like the rest of them. What is the definition of new to you? I wanna know what’s dope in your book….hmm.

Hip Hop driven to the underground. True hiphop has always been there since the mid 90′s…and fizzled into limbo after the death of J Dilla

The only ones pulling that kind of feel these days are groups like the cool kids…

    Hmmmm
