I am a DV survivor and honestly judging just from my situation it is not that easy to leave.

1) they put fear in you that if you leave they will kill you. Yes if sometimes you stay they will kill you too but you just hope if you don’t “upset” them, you can control it.

2) Abusers isolate you from friends and family so that your resources are very limited when trying to leave

3) in my situation he controlled the $$ and since my resources (people) were slim I didn’t have any money to go anywhere

4) the cops don’t really discourage it. They want you to meet certain criteria before you can even help.

The list goes on.

All i am saying until you walk in the shoes (GOD-FORBID), don’t think it is so easy to just pack up and leave. A lot of time it is not.

This is a damn shame. Brothers, if you have sisters, LOOK AFTR THEM. Let your presence be known while a dude is dating and/or seeing your ser. Let him know underno certain terms should he ever lay hnads on your sister that, that will the LAST TIME her will ever set eyes upon her or anyone else.

Thank GOD for my older brothers. I’ve never had this issue with my mate because he knows that my brothers would straight body check him. But we’re adults that KNOW how to talk things over before it gets heated.

Daddy’s tell & show your daughters how much you love them. My daddy gave me jewerly, sent me flowers for my b-day, Valentines. So subsquently the guys I met had to meet the standards & examples my daddy had already set. No man could woo me with money, jewerly and/or fancy car because my daddy already gave me that.

I can see how a chick can hold out if the guy may verbally abuse to her cause he’ll do the ‘I’ll never do that again, I’m sorry…’ thing and sound really sincere and she’ll believe him…I hear what you’re saying. Ladies a man will only treat you the way you let him! Do not think for a second that you are too, pretty, tough, smart, confident, classy etc.. to be victimized by a man. I have been there and my friends and family were shocked to find out that I was in an abusive relationship. It can happen to any woman. Do not be ashamed, the shame shall rest on the perpetrators’ shoulders! Trust in God and get out!

Damn shame I was able to Google the shyt and find out they went to his home because his neighbors heard screaming and yelling so they called the police, police arrived and reportedly were looking to charge him with “corporal punishment of a spouse” but lacking any physical evidence did arrest him for outstanding traffic warrants……..so regardless of the situation he told the truth and ya’ll got it wrong……

@soulfultea — you are so correct. Good advice for some women that never knew “DADDY LOVE”. My father would treat my sisters and I like special ladies. He took us out to dinner, pick us up from work and buy us treat — just because he loved us so much. I could be anywhere in the world and one call “Daddy” and he would come find me. If a man really loves you he will meet your standards. My ex told me to lower my standards — hence he is my ex. I refuse to settle for less. Sorry for the women that did not get “DADDY LOVE”. But learn to love yourself or fake it until a good man comes along.

Once you know your girl leans toward fighting…leave….If you decide to stick it out take the time to arrange your furniture allowing yourself escape routes, obstacles you can shove in her way in the case of a chase, get couches with the back low enough for you to hurdle but to high for her, ceiling or hanging lamps so they can’t be picked up and thrown at you, get a spray bottle and constantly spray the slides on the knife drawer so that it rusts and is difficult to pull out so that even when she uses both hands she has to wiggle it for a minute before she can get to one. Invest in some break-away clothing and always park your car facing towards the street the less maneuvering one has to do in the seconds you have before the brick, broom or fire poker has to make contact with your car the less chance of serious damage can occur to your ride……last but most important is practice, drills are very important…..when she’s out with her girls practice….you know how you do that whole 5,4,3,2,1 he shoots and he scores thing, change it to she’s pissed, she’s grabbing an ashtray, I duck she misses, I hurdle the couch, she trips, I’m out the door, in the car, pulling off, she throws the brick and misses….I’m gone.
