According to Gabrielle Union, motherhood is just not in the cards for her at the time being:
“Right now, I don’t have the same urges as other women when they see a baby. When I see children, I see responsibilities, which I don’t think I’m quite ready for. I feel the same about puppies. They’re cute for a second, but there’s a lot of responsibility involved.”
Kudos to Gaby for taking on a mature, responsible approach to parenthood. But at 35 years of age, she may not want to wait too much longer – we’re just saying..

Um shes being honest people!!! Some people arent prepared to be parents & they either act irresponsibly and dont use protection or they have a kid just because they think its just supposed to be that way when you get older. Thats dumb! And sexes!! Point blank, some women might not want to have kids and to me there is nothing wrong with that. Whats wrong is if they are bad parents because they rushed to have kids. Look at Oprah.. no kids and one of the richest people in the world. Not a problem to me. Alot of women feel like she does.
I have to respect her choice and knowing what i know now about having kids, being a single mom and then a married mom….WISH I WOULD OF WAITED A LOOOOOOOONNNNGGGTIME TO HAVE KIDS AND I WOULD SAY UNTIL I GOT IN MY 40′S!!! I agree 100 PERCENT with Gabrielle. I’m 34 and childless by choice. People automatically *****ume that by bio clock is ticking or feel sorry for me because I don’t have kids. But I spend my money how I want, travel the world and have an uncomplicated life. It is a popular misconception that everyone should reproduce or wants the responsibility of parenthood. Not everyone should be a parent.

There are women who wait until their 40’s to have kids and they are very happy. It’s an individual choice. There’s no golden rule that says a woman has to give birth. She’s doing her. Too often some women use men and babies to validate themselves. Also 35 is still young.

I am 35 yrs old. I met Gabrielle Union and took a picture with her. I have no kids and I was married like Gabrielle. I love to travel and hang out with my friends, 35 is not old, I still go to clubs, etc. I am glad I did not have kids earlier. Young life never comes back. This is the perfect age right now to have kids, 35. Only due to societal pressures and biological clocks women have kids or settle for a deadbeat. Not me. I am having the time of my life. Gabrielle has five years or more, to settle if she wants kids.

i feel the same way & at 26 i cringe when i see girls my age with 2 and 3 kids. people act like getting pregnant is something that is uncontrollable. i dont understand it .. they have all these kids then do nothing productive with or for them and my biggest pet peeve .. birthing children into poverty!! why would you do it? you cant even afford your own damn life! why create another. if more people thought more rationally and wrapped it up more often maybe tax payers would be bled to bare the financial responsibility of children that their biological parents cant afford or dont care to take responsibility for. maybe when im 50 ill rush to settle down and adopt a white baby lol

If she wanted kids and didn’t have a man there is something called ADOPTION or artificial insemination. Why are women always questioned when they don’t want kids, and why does it matter to those that want kids? If you want them and can take care of them (not a damn nanny) then have them, but for those that don’t, that’s their choice. Sheesh.

Parenting is not for everyone. In the uncertain times we live in, it is harder to raise a child economically & socially. Don’t hate Gabby for her honesty. If she possibly wants a kid at or after age 40, so be it. Halle Berry did it for example. We should not judge ones choices. It is up to the individual.

Every woman is not meant to be a mother. Some people have children just to keep their mate, and have poor parenting skills. This is why their are so many disfunctional adults.
Teenagers are selfish to have babies at a young age, only to place the burden on their parents to raise them. sometimes they raise them, with little patience abusing them with beatings and shouting at the children because they can’t handle the responsibility.

Why is a woman called selfish is she doesn’t want any kids? I am 31 have planned my entire life around NOT having kids. The crazy thing is every woman I know in her 30’s regret having kids. I know some who said they had wish they only had 1 but for the most part they regret it. I’ve always thought that was an awful thing for a mother to admit but they do so easily. They envy my life of not having to plan a weekend getaway 6 months in advance. They love coming over my house just to get peace of mind.
I don’t even have time to talk about the ones who fell for the OKEDOKE and thought that man was going to be there to help with the responsibilities of raising a child. That’s actually the #1 gripe.

K-ten…..a puppy is a big responsibility. They grow up to dogs. Dogs require a lot of attention. They are not like cats. Dogs are so much like children that it’s not even funny. When dogs don’t get attention, they do bad things to get your attetion like ***** on your bed or in your shoes. I doubt if Gabby is irresponsible. She has had a good run over the past 10yrs with no headlines in the tabloids.

no problem with kids at 45 if you are physically and mentally healthy.
There’s nothing great about having children over the age of 30. My parents had me when my mom was 40 and my dad was 48. Kids used to say that my parents are my grandparents. They could never parti*****te at sport days etc because they were too old. To make it sink in, I’m 26. My mom is 66 and my dad is 74.
Also, there are more complications when you start having children over 30. Downs syndrome, fibroids etc.
I am married and have a 2 year old. I have all the energy in the world for him. And ofcourse I have a good job so I can afford him.

No truer words were spoken…they (babies and puppies) are cute…but it definitely ain’t cute at 3am, 5am,etc…having to change diapers or take the dog out to potty. I had a puppy and it wore me out…I sold that sucka after 7 months. And with kids…that is definitely not one I will do by myself…both are things you have to put quality time in with…

I agree with Gabrielle. It’s not every sista’s desire to have a baby at 14 and live in the projects. I’d rather end up a 40 year old childless RICH woman than a 40 year old greatgrandmother with high blood pressure, sagging *****ies and a overcrowded ghetto apartment full of badazzed greatgrandkids. Sisters like Halle who wait to have their babies later still look young and beautiful while some of those sisters who believed in having them at 15 look all of 80 by the time they hit 40.
Babies cost money and time. I would rather spend money on me and babysit for fun.

The selfish thing to do would be to have kids because you think it’s expected of you or to fill some hole in your life that you think a baby will fix. Get therapy, don’t bring a child into your mess.

I applaud Gabrielle for being one of the few black women of reason out there. Black women who nag at her decision to not have children right now in her life need to fall back. Her “biological clock” is hers and hers alone and God will bless her with a child when she feels ready and able (last time I checked, women begin menopause around 50 years of age, not 35 *rolls eyes again*) And those that think it’s cute to have children in their teens and early twenties because they think it will keep them connected to a deatbeat thug or because it’s “cute” need to get their ovaries removed and their heads slapped.
