Good day Bossip readers! As the old saying goes, “the best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach,” but how many ladies cook? These days, women who don’t know how to cook or just don’t like to seems to be a trending trait. Grilled cheese sandwiches and minute rice do not count! And why is it that spaghetti is the default dish for that first “I’ll cook for you” date? Women often tout, “this is 2010! We do not have to be shackled to the kitchen,” which is cool, but career woman should know how to burn it up too … can never be too well-rounded! For most men, woman who can make his favorite dish with effortless perfection is always a plus. Granted, it’s a little nerve wracking trying to figure out what to make but here are a few dishes that you just cant go wrong with when it comes to throwing it down for your man. The trick is: enjoy doing it! When you love cooking for your boo, he’ll love to consume it with an attitude of “all this for me? Thank you, baby!” Undoubtedly, this is useless information for some of you but, if nothing else, you have some ideas for dinner tonight!
Meaty Stew - it’s cold in most parts of the country around this time of year so warm goodness always goes down good. So now that stew is the new soup, beef stew over white rice would be delicious! The best part about this dish is you can chop the veggies, brown the beef cubes throw them in a crock pot and let it cook all day. All you’ll have to do when you get in is throw some fresh bread in the oven and make a salad. Easy. He’ll love it and it lasts for days!
Baked Chicken - this is also very simple but you can play around with the spices to liven up this dish. Fresh basil or rosemary will make this meal all the more flavorful. Steam some vegetables and brown rice and you have dinner! This is cool because you don’t have to stand watch over everything.
Steak and Potatoes - this is classic. Most men (who eat red meat) will never turn down a good steak and a baked or mashed potatoes! If your man’s a meat and potatoes kind of guy, you can’t go wrong with this one! Don’t forget the salad or broccoli to help it pass through without any issue! A nice red wine would be a great finisher.
Stir Fry - this is light for days that you just don’t want to be full. You can keep it light with seafood or let it stand as a veggie dish. But the trick is in the spicing … if you season well, your guy will eat just about anything! So sautee your choice of fresh vegetables with some soy sauce and spice it up how you want! Takes 15 minutes max!
Seafood Fettuccini - you can replace spaghetti with this one. Just try a little something different with your choice of pasta. Make sure your sauce is filled with meaty seafood or if you want to step it up a notch, bake some salmon filets and serve them over the pasta! White wine would be delicious with this.
Chili - chili is good when it’s spicy and rich in flavor so make sure you go hard on this one! Everyone has a family recipe so jut do it up for him. Make some Jiffy cornbread to go with it and it will make your night complete!
Sushi - okay, okay. This is stretch. A lot of brothas don’t really get down with the idea of eating “raw fish,” but if he’s willing to try something new, pick up a sushi kit and make your own! Start with a veggie wrap or throw some shrimp in it! Regardless of how it turns out, he tried something new with you!
Okay ladies, this should be more than enough for you to get to know your man better via the kitchen! Oh, and don’t forget dessert!
