SO +GET OFF WYCLEF’S NUTTTTZ

  • WhatAWorld08

Wyclef no sane person believed them. Its clearly a known strategy that is done by the gov’t.What makes me sick to my stomach are my gullible people that sat around almost happy that this crap came out so they would have a reason to justify them not donating.Even Haiti the poorest country gave to Hurricane Katrina, but we “The free world ” can’t.People on here and evrywhere else rejoicing to the skies, believing the first thing they see as fact. Are we as blacks really cursed with this “crabs in a bucket” mentality,I really hope not!

  • Dajournalist

Thank you Wyclef. Blessings to you and your family… your wife….
I support Yele. And we know why ‘THEY’ would discourage donations to an association that isn’t supported by the government.

Piss on these sites that don’t practice REAL journalism. They are blurring the line between entertainment and fact. It’s one thing to start beef about hip hop but its another thing to perpetuate beef during a REAL crisis.

Like the post before me said, why don’t you put the stats of ALL These organziations up.. instead of demonizing one of them. If Wyclef hadn’t aired sh1t out himself, then what?!

Wyclef and Yele has been helping Haiti long before this earthquake brought Haiti to the public’s eye. He has been using his celebrity to raise awareness for years. TEAM YELE.

  • NLM

I just hope the majority of the money is going to the Haitian people. Because if there is any funny business is going on with the money, God have mercy on his soul.

  • UrHeinessDaQueen

I have faith that what Wyclef says is nothing but the truth,I mean,he’s been helping his native country for years so why would he feel the need to do something so shady during the time of ultimate crisis such as now? May the many survivors, the injured, the sick & numerous newly orphan children receive all the help they so rightfully deserve!I already did my part

  • KC

Didn’t he suggest there’s some truth to the report? Wasn’t he implying that money’s needed for production, managers, etc and the money came from Yele but that somehow the fact that he’d donated his own money to the charity justified that?

I wanted to hear him say that 100% of Yele donations have gone directly to the people w/o him taking one cent. He didn’t.

I’m inclined to belive the IRS report that he was paying himself from Yele funds as well.

  • sugar

im glad i have not text to this guy whatever his name is… I remember there was a time his house in hawaii was foreclosed so people be careful… he will use that money himself, the haitians will never see a dime.

  • Illy

It’s good that Obama brought Bush into the fold of the helping Haiti initiative. Obama is a born diplomat and hopefully having Bush join in will convince those who try to politicize the relief effort that bipartisanship is needed at this time.

  • Airun

My black people make me truly ill. Are ya’ll listening to what the man said. He HAS to spend money to make money. And to the idiot that said “I wanted to hear him say that 100% of Yele donations have gone directly to the people w/o him taking one cent.”, retard NO organization can donate 100% to the people. Just now when the hipe is on and so many of us are digging into our purses in walk these people who may or maynot be giving an official statement to cast doubt. emm…I think I will now give to this organization run by Wyclef.
One poster mention the crab in the barrel mentality may I suggest that we continue to help long after the cameras are gone. Yele I believe will be there long after still helping fellow countrymen.

Do you have proof? Did you make any donations to Yele prior? Have you made any donations to date?

  • desiree sanchez

Ok, folks, where is your PROOF that his org has helped? You claim conspiracy here but you don’t find one moment to present any evidence that foul play isn’t a part of his trip. Folk steal, wow, even black folks. Imagine that..

  • Nesty

This is what Charity Navigator has to say about Wyclef’s foundation:

    http://blog.charitynavigator.org/2010/01/wyclef-jeans-yele-haiti-foundation.html

  • Nesty

CHARITY NAVIGATOR- – - We’re getting a lot of questions about Wyclef Jean’s charity as several sources are starting to raise questions about it.

First off, we do not yet rate this charity as it currently doesn’t meet our criteria. Why? It has only filed three Forms 990 and we require at least 4 to complete a rating.

Second, our team has taken a look at what information is available on this group.

    * We find it odd that the charity filed all three 990s (for fiscal years 2005, 2006 and 2007) in August of 2009. Charities are often not especially timely in filing these documents, but this is beyond late.
    * According to the group’s FYE 2008 audit (the corresponding 990 isn’t available at this time) the group spent 69% of its budget on programs. Our research shows that the most efficient charities spend at least 75%.
    * Just about all of its program expenses are providing grants to its affiliate organization in Haiti. There is nothing wrong with that, but we really don’t know how the group in Haiti spends its money.
    * One of our recommendations is that donors stick with charities that have experience in providing aid after major disasters and/or that have a long history of working in Haiti. The group may meet the second criteria, but it doesn’t appear to meet the first.

  • Dbizzy

Wyclef is Haitian.. he founded Yele before this earthquake idiots!!! He love his country it’s poor and it need his help what would he benefot stealing money from his own people.. it doesn’t even make sense…right on Wyclef don’t spend time on this crap let me handle them. us haitians need you to help the people who need you most right NOW not to be spending time clarifying to morons

  • Wanda

So I guess Matt Damon or 60 minutes would’ve thought the same thing about Wyclef. We are so quick to judge……they would’ve call him out by now if he was a crook. He being working hard for many years to bring awareness about his country. Some are afraid that he might get too much of attention which is really needed. Stop this madness.

I hope like hell that are no financial shenanigans going on here. I would hate to know that my $$$$$ went to pay for non-talented producers, to pay for lambos instead of going the Haitian needy. If I find this to be true, I’ll never give another donation to any charity.

  • Keepnit100

I’m really pleased to see Wyclef address the allegations pertaining to his Yele foundation..I donated money to this charity.

However, no matter how much money is donated, as a country Haiti still has some issues. The government is corrupt and has been for a very long time now. The lack of infrastucture and operational government institutions has left majority of the population living in poverity..my question is although relief has been provided through donations how are the citizens of Haiti going to actually get the relief they need when the government is so corrupt?

  • Mock Rock Star

Fugees need to do a concert to gather money for Haiti!!!

Here we go again. THE SAME PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE WYCLEF IS STEALING MONEY ARE THE SAME RETARDS THAT BELIEVED THE “AIDS GIRL”. My black people make me truly ill. • Keepnit100

Administrative costs are definitely relevant to all organizations…however majority of citizens residing Haiti were living in extreme imporverished conditions prior to this earthquake happening…I just don’t understand the type of governance residing in this country

  • Keepnit100

Based on the research I’ve done so far..Haiti has no type of oversight in the construction of buildings…meaning contractors can build a home or office without following any type of laws or provision to ensure public safety…that’s scary and I think Americans take the institution of democracy for granted sometimes..I’m blessed and I pray for all the citizens of Haiti at this time

  • Haters kick rocks!!!!

I SUPPORT YELE!!!!!!!! I find it pitiful that this man had to leave Haiti to come back to the USA to dispel rumors about caring for his own country. He was just on TV not too long ago talking about Haiti and how he has come up from the huts, been to the projects and moved into a mansion. I think many people on here are really feable minded and childish. If anyone on here THINKS that Red Cross hasn’t gone through the same scrutiny think again. Do your research people. Even before the devestation (hurricanes and earthquake) Wyclef has always tried to look out for Haiti. Wake the h*ll up people. This man is not trying to run game through a charity. He is legit.

  • facingreality

Wyclef is under scrutiny because of the mismanagement of his personal finances/foreclosure ofhis home, etc. It is hard to believe someone has others best interest at heart financially when they can’t keep their own finances in check. The temptation to route some monies away from the intended purpose is greater in instances where the person in charge has money woes. Also his paperwork, required of all non-profits is not in order or consistently filed late; another red-flag.

He brought the scrutiny upon himself! His heart may be in the right place but his organizational skills are in disarray – too questionable.

  • backingbarack

All because he is Haitian does not make him genuine. People have been killing their own and have shown no compassion for their own race/ethnicity for centuries and it spreads all boundaries and countries (ie Hitler, Africa, China, etc). Read this article by a HAITIAN ORGANIZATION about Wyclef and his snake behind: http://www.haitiaction.net/News/HIP/11_2_4.html

Even people in Haiti know what is up about this dude, so American’s beware. Wyclef filed for bankruptcy and his home was foreclosed, owing the bank about 2 million. He is trying to sound smart by mentioning NGO but he does not know how they work and everyone knows wtf a NGO is. I mean I bet 10% goes to Haiti but he certainly pockets 90%. This man has not had a hit in more than 10 years and you never hear of him until now. He is using this to promote himself. Lauryn Hill who is the most successful AND TALENTED of the Fugees is struggling to support herself and own kids but yet this dude is flashing? Open your eyes people. Yes, he is Haitian but trust most Haitians know about him anyways and I am glad they are investigating him and his finances.

  • backingbarack

I work in events and have done benefit concerts. All talent know it is to benefit an organization and to FUNDRAISE so they offer their skills and talents for FREE. That is why it is called a donation and benefit concert.

  • Kool Breeze

The better business bureau, IRS etc has been investigating this for sometime now, they must have substantial proof that the allegations of abusing the charity for financial gain are enough to be made public. This report really has me concerned about wyclef skimming too much. I would suggest that he divulge as much as possible to clear his name because the details described in the report sounds credible from the BB and IRS. My advice to wyclef is fight hard to clear this chit up because this crap sounds terrible.

  • C-andy

I donated to YeleHaiti simply because of Wyclef. I felt that he would know more so than anybody else what was needed. My mother donated, etc. God will make sure that it will be alright.

The fact that Wyclef could get two million dollars in two days is testimony to the power of technology and the compassion of people. But! There is some serious s*** not right. Also, there are scores of fake a** Haitian relief sites all over the net. Wyclef can come on tv and the net and play the race card all his mediocre a** wants and that still doesn’t mean his Yelle organization is up front. USA for Africa and hands across America were BS to and people fell for that crap.Although ‘We Are The World’ was a bad a** song.

Look at what our government has already done. We have a damn super carrier out there to help those people. We don’t play in America when we decide to get busy! The money Yelle has raised IMHO isn’t all going to the Haitians. Not by a long shot.It is going into a lot of pockets.

  • Treatment

I am glad that he took the time to clear this up, and also let us all know the real deal. It is a very sensitive situation and my prayers goes out to the remaining individuals in Haiti. It is our job to help regardless on what goes on, it is not a crime to lend a hand. I am grateful that Haiti has a person like Wyclef.Jean that is doing his part. I pray that your strength is renewed to move forward…….

  • DMX

Bush part of the relief effort is the biggest joke i have seen in 100 years. Every thing is political in the USA. Maybe someone can ask Dubya why his father Bush Sr toppled Aristide in 1991 when he backed the terrorist FRAPH organization and installed a dictator Cedras? Or ask Dubya why in 2003, he basically kidnapped Aristide from Haiti and dropped him in Central Africa on a 1 way trip? Luckily, South Africa, took Aristide in. Ok you uninformed will want to know why did Aristide leave? because Dubya threatened to invade Haiti if he did not.

Bush Sr and Bush Jr are soldiers of th devil period. Tell that to Pat Robertson

  • BritChick

Anything to bring the black man down when he is trying to do something good.

You all should scrutinize other charities and see if they don’t do some very strange things with their money.

  • darealwifey

I’m donating to Wyclef’s charity. This guy has been trying to raise awareness of the plight of Haitian’s for YEARS. Anytime he gets an opportunity, he is speaking out for his native land. He’s been doing there DIGGING OUT BODIES for days. Most of us can’t even imagine what it would be like for our homeland to be devastated the way Haiti is.

The “powers that be” have NERVES to do this to this man when the Red Cross’ administrative costs for 2008 were 218,477,000. That is HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of dollars in ADMINISTRATIVE costs. It is nearly impossible to have ZERO COSTS for a charity, though the Red Cross’ costs seem to be extraordinarily high.

  • FancyBlueJeans

Why are they trying to discredit this man? Hmmm, Rush Limbaugh instructed white folks not to donate to Haiti… now this article appears? Hmmm?

  • CUBAN LOU

HAITIANS STEAL FROM HARD WORKING PEOPLE. THEY SERVE ME AND WORK WITCH CRAFT. THEY SMELL FUNNY TOO. 305 ALL DAY!!

  • Dee

In a time of crisis and such heartbreak, I find it hard to believe that Wyclef would steal from his own people. Even those with the coldest hearts can find compassion for so much in need.
This is an unbelievable tragedy. No words can describe what the people of Haiti are going through right now. Please continue to keep them in your prayers.

@ Cuban Lou- I will let God take care of you. Your negativity will be the end of you. May you ROT IN HELL

  • :brows

I honestly think that people are trying to purposely discredit his organization to get people to fund some of these other legal organizations like the red cross.

In one year the director of the red cross made over 600,000 dollars.

So its a money making business for everyone.

  • Jenifer

I wonder if he’s taking the money from the charity to pay for all those trips back and forth to Haiti? I rather give to Red Cross b/c I seen them in action.

  • nikki is ONE bad chicaAA!

wyclef looks like a shady character, he does pocket alot of this ‘charity’ money! yele is probably his nick name in haiti so you donate to the wyclef`s pocket fund
i HAD a haitian friend and YES THEY practice VOODOO
she was no joke so i beleive that that country is getting a mega dose of karma!

  • FED UP!

IF YA’LL BELIEVE THAT ALL THE MONEY YOU DONATE TO RED CROSS AND OTHER GOV’T ORGANIZATIONS ARE GOING TO THE PEOPLE WHO NEED IT…YOU ARE DELUSIONAL!!!! HAVEN’T YOU ALL LEARNED FROM WHAT HAPPENED TO THE KATRINA VICTIMS? I WOULD GIVE TO WYCLEF BEFORE I GIVE TO ANYONE ELSE.

  • Melanie

SMDH at some people. He did not JUST start this charity. This is a labor of love for Wyclef. If the powers that be had so many issues with the charity before now…why are they just now saying something about it?? Come on PEOPLE…think!!!

  • Tracey

I believe this man has good intentions for the cause he is trying to help, which is his homeland he is passionate about, however people need to realize Charities are a profit making business and the Red Cross is not ran any better than any other Charity.

For example the Red Cross raised billions for the victims of the Tsunami, money which still has not been distributed.

All I am saying is just be careful and yes Wyclef should not have to go through this rubbish at this vital time.

  • imrightdammit

Wyclef has always been shady. Remember this was the dude that was screwing 15 year-old Lauren Hill WHILE MARRIED!!! I wouldn’t give 2 cents to Wyclef’s foundation. Especially since they have stolen money before this.

  • geebz

I respect what Clef is trying to do and will support Yele with my hard-earned bucks. Often times, black folks get put under intense scrutiny and get held to standards that are ridiculous. I believe he’s doing the right thing and that we as a people need to support him.
    Keep ya head up, man!

  • Dee

@ Jenifer- You sound uneducated. If he were using the money to fund his trips back and forth to Haiti to HELP the people, I consider that a good use of my donated money.

  • Dee

@ imrightdammit- Please elaborate. What money has been stolen before this?

  • Dee

@ nikki is ONE bad chicaAA!- How dare you call this autrocity Karma. Could you imagine losing your whole family in a matter of seconds? Losing your home? Everything you worked hard for? Can you imagine not being able to locate your family? Not knowing if they are dead or alive. Having no food or water. So because one friend of yours spoke about that practices of voudou practiced by few Haitians this deserved to happen to them?
You sound stupid. Actually, you are stupid. What’s the highest level of education you have received? To me, sounds like you haven’t reached pass the 3rd grade.

  • imrightdammit

    @Dee
In 2006-2007, Yele reported income of a million dollars, but OVER HALF of that money went to pay companies THAT ARE OWNED BY THE MEMBERS OF YELE. Including a 100,000 dollar payment to WYCLEF for a concert! WTF?? LEGIT charities spend approximately 10% for operating costs, and you can’t use the charity to make the members of the board wealthy. That’s the oldest scam going.
    (See Washington Post, Cnn, etc)

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/sexy1234 uhh yeah ok.

I’m going to go with Whyclef on this one. You have to remember that the bigger oes are getting more money so their costs to maintain are’t going to look as bad either.

Whyclef’s is a grassroots organisation. That means he’s gotta pay for everything and try to find some deals here and there.

I’m praying that he loves his people as much as I love mine.

Good luck Whyclef and good luck Haiti..

BTW; the big guys steals tons and they always have stipulations for that Aid. You’ll see, they buy your sould when you’re down.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/sexy1234 uhh yeah ok.

lol You’re nuts Chamallie.. He’s a charasmatic guy though..

  • imrightdammit

And the DUMBEST reason Black people ALWAYS come up with to justify their wrongdoing is “White people do it too”, or “The other big charities steal too”. THAT’S THE MOST IGNORANT ISH I EVER HEARD!!! So other people doing wrong means we can do wrong as well??!!! I thought we’re supposed to be BETTER than that.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/sexy1234 uhh yeah ok.

o it was not an excuse to do it too. Either way I’ve seen reports of all of them stealing at one point or another in my life.. So what are you going to do?

Well myself I’m going to give Whyclef the opportunity to do better. That’s all I can do, I’m not on the ground so I put my hope in somebody who has a ‘vested interest.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/sexy1234 uhh yeah ok.

That’s his blood and if he does them wrong now, it will be a curse worse on him than what we could say or think. Remember he’s there pulling bodies out and staking them on more bodies. Bodies that look like him, bodies of children…

I am going with his heart on this one.

  • Ronda

I’m not gonna fall for the divide and conquer tactics that always arise when our people do something positive to help ourselves after their bumbling attempts at help go awry. I believe in Wyclef and his organization. I can truly see, hear and feel that he is genuine IMO. That’s all I need to know. If it were to be some other scheme to get people to donate $$ for anything other than the stated reason..that’s between him and God. I’m trusting that Clef is doing the right thing and I’m gonna support him in whatever way I can. Amen.

  • God’s_Angel

Yele Haiti is about the only organization that will be there for the long haul. After the Red Cross has moved on, Wyclef and Yele will still be there helping the Haitians.

Look at Hurricane Katrina. Is the Red Cross still there helping in the magnitude that they should? What happened to all of that money that was raised to help Hurricane Katrina victims? We donated money to the same gov’t that let those people sit there in the water for 5 days before gov’t help came.

So who would you rather give your money to? Knowing that all of your donations will NOT go to help the Haitians. And the Red Cross has much larger administration costs than Yele. So of course the gov’t wants you to donate to the Red Cross.

  • islandwoman

    @imrightdammit

    You are on target.

Note: Any operating cost is used as a right off. Any organization that has huge O.C. has funds that are donated specifically for that purpose. Nevertheless, any company that donates services of any kind writes it off as a donation, they never pay themselves.

There are legal documents and codes that are used for this purpose. It is illegal to pay yourself and then call Charity.

According to the smoking gun and the IRS he’s a fraud. How does paying your rent from donations assist you with relief efforts? We don’t believe you(In Jay’Z voice). You are intitled to have administrative fees but dude yours are for personal living expenses. Anyway Good luck to you and your people.

AIRUN, Please stop. There’s no need to make money to give 100% of proceeds tht were DONATED to the cause.

I have been supporting Haiti for years. I’ve visited and have been supporting a pastor’s orphanage and school over in Port au Prince. I never spent ONE DIME of the money my church donated to this cause. I paid for my plane ticket and hotel out of MY pocket.

Haitains don’t need for him to record a song or give a concert. CLEF needs that for his ego and/or career. All they needed was the money.

He—AND THE IRS– cited the $ going for studio time and the like–not planes to drop medicine and food.

@Dee, whateva! You sound very intelligent…. yeah right! Just stop typing. (haha)

I was in the Conservation Corps, so I seen Red Cross in action. Now about funding his trip back and forth, do you think it’s his money or the money donated to Haiti that he’s using to fly into Haiti every third day or so? Wonder if he’s flying First Class, you think?

  • donationqueen

I thought charity was free! I personally find it offensive for reputable organizations to accept donations and pay $ 350,000 thousand in salaries to the CEO! WAKE UP! Red Cross only paid out some of the donated funds and used the rest to pay bonuses and salaries! WAKE UP! just because it’s reputable doesnt mean its Honest! This is an attack! to deter us as people from donating to his cause that was there before the earthquake! do your charity research!

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/sexy1234 uhh yeah ok.

I don’t think people really understand the impact of seeing a mass grave site first hand.

I was born into the Ethiopian famine and made an orphan by it so I would really just go with your heart on this because this is pain beyond belief.

When they had that we are the world concert for us do you think 100% of it came to us or do you think the artists we’re paid. I mean they should have done it for free right??

LOL@ Folks that call the RED CROSS reputable. FYI: Less than 50% of the money they collect goes to relief efforts in reference to that direct diaster.

Wyclef and Yele has been putting food, water, clothes and structure in place for Haiti in any way it can for nearly a decade. That man took money out his own pocket because there is such a negative outlook on Haitians basedon stereotypes and corruption within the country made it damn near impossible to get the government involved. He, his wife, and sister work hard and put the work directly on their backs.
NO ONE else is there on some charity sh*t. IT COST MONEY buy supplies, ship supplies, pay travel, pay LABORERS, pay LAWYERS, and if you dont think some money had to touch a corrupt politician’s hands to allow him to do good work in Haiti, you are smoking rocks. Welcome to the reality of being poor from a poor nation and TRYING to help improve it. All the haters jumping on him should try being in his shoes for a year and see how long they last

  • Sure

Wyclef crying and admitting “mistakes” because he know he’s a thief.
