“On the next “TV One Access,” co-host Jamal Munnerlyn and guest co-host Tatyana Ali count down to the 16 sexiest black women alive. In addition to naming the top list of on-screen sirens, “TV One Access” also gives viewers a look at the women who embody categories such as “Sexiest Athletes,” “Sexiest Sense of Style,” and “Quintessential Complete Package.”
The list ranges from Tyra Banks, who was the first black woman ever to grace the cover of “Sports Illustrated,” to Grammy Award-winning artist Alicia Keys. A few surprises include a nod to Presidential hopeful Barack Obama’s wife Michelle and “Deja Vu” break-out star Paula Patton.”
While we’re on the topic, we’d like to make one adjustment: She may very well be one of the sexiest women on the scene, period. Let’s face it, none of them other wheffas in Hollyweird are bringin’ it quite like Halle – for real.

There is a difference between ethnicity and biological race.
Biologically : ALL African Americans, and hell, even most white Americans, have at least some racial mixture.
However, the African American ETHNIC GROUP is full of everyone from Wesley Snipes to Alicia Keys. Having a white parent doesn’t mean you can’t be a Black American, ask some of my mixed friends who grew up with me and faced the same shit I have that they are not bruthas and they will set you straight.
All of these categories are SOCIAL, race, ethnicity, nationality….everything. While you can’t self-identity your heritage, you can certainly self-identify your culture and who you associate with.
Be it as it may, Halle is not an African American to me, she seems to have lost her bearings.

To me, the “not black enough” argument can’t really include a mixed-race person, because they come from parents from two separate racial groups. So, their perspective could not be in-line with a black person’s, because coming from, or being raised, by a black person(s) as opposed to coming from, or being raised, by white person(s) is not the same experience.
And again, going back to blacks having other races, but mainly the white race, in our blood, well that, to a great extent, was not our ancestors’ choice.
The Africans that were brought over here weren’t asked, for the part, to bore half-white children.

How I define my experience/identity as an African American may be totally different from how another brother or sister views his/hers. There’s a wealth of diversity among us that’s fluid in nature.

Well, if we want to base it on biology, then is it not true that a person who has a white parent and a black parent is biracial?
I think that the only reason why society and some biracial people identify with one race as opposed to both is because we are a society that strongly believes in single labels. It is greatly believed that a person can’t be diverse, the person has to one thing or nothing at all.
But, the main reason why someone who is part black and part white would most likely chose to see themselves as black is because mixed-race children were not accepted by the white side of their families back in the slavery days, unless they could completely pass as white.
Moreover, a mixed child had no choice but to be considered black.
Nonetheless, it doesn’t make them being shunned any more of a good reason to ignore the other side of them.
These days, mixed race people do not have to hide their racial background, because we all understand that interracial couples do exist.
So, why do people still expect biracial children to choose? Seriously, why would anyone naturally consider themselves to be one race, when they clearly come from two—especially, someone like Halle Berry or Alicia Keys, who were raised by white women.

We can call the white community every name in the book but confused is not one of them. They defined being black as having a drop of black blood and they have stuck with it. But the black community we keep making these adjustments as to what it means to be black. There are warring ideals; we want to place a stamp on some biracial people as though we make them honorary blacks based on what they have done. Today some of you celebrate the potential of a first black president but the very same people manage to have a fit that a woman of the same racial makeup as the man who is about to be president cannot be named the sexiest black woman. You want to say some biracial people are black some need to remain biracial, it doesn’t add up. The logic is so flawed and so skewed its ridiculous.
In lieu of me naming some famous black individuals whom we as a community like to ignore their biracial or multiracial standing while we pick at others are WEB Dubois , Langston Hughes, Edmonia Lewis who was on this site recently for being the first BLACK female sculptor to be recognized , Rosa Parks, Benjamin Banneker ward winning mathematician and astronomer , Dr Charles Drew who if you did not know was a pioneer physician in the study of blood transfusions, and the storage of blood aka blood banks as we now know it and even August Wilson. These are all people who have been named as the first blacks to do this or that or main contributors to the community yet we never once say well they are half white so why are we teaching them in black history class again or why are they often named when individuals list great African American individuals

The standard of beauty in “the industry” is so far from reality these days. I do think that by Hollywoods standards Halle Berry is a black woman despite the fact that she is biracial. I’m sure that when she was younger and had to fill out applications for jobs, in that blank where it asks for race, there is nothing that says biracial or mixed with black and white, there was african american, caucasian, latino, and other, she marked black. She has darker skin than I do and when people see me they don’t say oh she’s white or mixed, they can clearly see that I am black. I think that we are so eager to claim anybody as “just” black.
And again, a biracial person is biracial because he or she is the product of two parents from two separate races.
Now, I don’t disagree that there are a lot of sometiming people who will only claim a biracial as black, when this person is doing something good; but to me, anyone who has a white parent and a black parent or a black parent and an Asian parent or a Puerto Rican parent and a white parent or whatever else is biracial—and that’s not disrespectful, or unrealistic, that’s simply a reality.
And yes, I know the history of race and that it is a social construct, but what is so obscene about saying that somebody who has a white mother and black father is biracial or mixed, but a person, like myself, who has a black mother and a black father is black?
I’m not trying to say that a person who has a white parent isn’t as good as me, I’m just saying that they have a white parent. So, to ignore that is what’s really ridiculous, because there’s nothing wrong with stating the obvious?
I mean, why do these people have to forget their white parent–and, these days, it’s the white parent who was the main one that raised them–just to appease everybody else’s illusions?
And as I stated before, if our society wasn’t so stuck on this “one drop” rule, biracial people would not feel the need to state that they were only one race.
Also, I don’t think that calling a person biracial as opposed to black is what’s divisive. I believe that once we all acknowledge that we all have our own heritages, then we can move ahead and embrace everyone else for who they are.
I mean, nobody can be simply lumped into one category, because we are too diverse for that. So, that’s why it’s more dangerous to turn a blind eye to a biracial person’s full racial background, because it’s only denying them their right to be all of themselves.
We can be all of ourselves, or at least what we know of ourselves, but they can’t? They have to “identify” themselves as black, regardless of their obvious “direct” lineage to another ethnicity, just because why? They look black? Or they have one black parent? Or a black great-grandparent? So what? Will having a black mate now suddenly transform you to black because you are now associated with a black person?
What about your white or Asian or Middle Eastern or Latin parent? Why do they not matter? Because, as some of you say, black is a more dominant race? How’s that?
And some of you say that whites don’t chop themselves up into separate categories. Well, for the most part, they can’t. Their ancestors come from one place—-Europe. They don’t have to worry about having ancestors from various continents and who are people of color. And even though white is what they will technically claim, don’t think for a minute that they don’t know and understand their specific ethnic background.
When it’s St. Patrick’s Day, a white Irish person will be walking in that parade. When it’s Columbus Day, a white Italian person will be walking in that parade. When there’s a polish holiday or any other European holiday, whites will celebrate, because they know who they are, and they know where they really came from.
Shoot, even Hispanics know, because they know their history, so they are going to celebrate who they are.
We’re the ones only who don’t, because we don’t know who we really are. So, I think that’s why we think that a biracial person doesn’t have the right to have a full sense of themselves. They should be just as in the dark and satisfied with one word, just like us.

So I asked her if she considered me black even though my grandmother on my mother’s side is white and my grandfather on my father’s side is white. Her answer was yes. In response to that I said based on her definition neither one of my parents is black, so how can two non black people produce a black child. I could tell she felt stupid, but she went on about how she thinks only individuals whose parents are of two different races should be considered mixed. I guess she wants her daughter to feel unique, special and different from other black people.
