An Alabama Buffett Turns Into A Barrel Of Bickering

A seafood showdown popped off at Meteor Buffet in Alabama and it left some witnessing diners flabbergasted and confused.

Huntsville police officer Gerald Johnson described the incident to WHNT, saying two people were going at it over some crab legs.

“Literally, as I sat down and maybe took two bites out of my plate,” Johnson said. “There’s a woman who’s beating a man. People are moving around, plates are shattering everywhere.”

Apparently, diners were eagerly waiting for the next tray of crab legs in the food line. “Everyone was saying, ‘They cut me in line. She cut me in line. He cut me in line. I was here first,'” Johnson said.

“They’d been waiting there for the crab legs for a good 10, 20 minutes. When they finally came out, it’s very heated. Especially if someone is taking more than their fair share,” Johnson continued.

The arguments eventually turned into a seasoned scuffle, and at one point, Johnson said he could hear metal clanking. “It’s not something you typically hear, if you can imagine a fencing match,” Johnson said.

The starving swashbucklers were dueling to the very end with tongs.

It was a mess.

Police eventually arrested John Chapman and Chequita Jenkins, who was grubbing at the buffet with her kids.

Offer Johnson said after a chat with Chapman and Jenkins, they acknowledged that their tempers got the best of them. Chapman was hit with a disorderly conduct charge, while Jenkins was charged with third-degree assault. Both crabby customers could end up paying a couple hundred dollars in fines.

Don’t know if it was worth it for crabs that cost $10.58 per plate.

Meanwhile, Chapman suffered a cut to the head, while Jenkins was not hurt. Chapman is expected to appear in court on March 21.

Hopefully, in spite of it all, the crabs were bomb!
