A close source tells Bossip that Kelly Rowland has just inked a deal with Universal Records.

According to our source Kelly was in the Motown Records office last Thursday and she left with a new record deal. No word on when her album is dropping or how much she got for the deal but this is a step up from Mathew Knowles and Music World. Hopefully she’ll be on the come up in no time.

Ummm…I don’t want to be negative because I’m rooting for Ms. Kelly to succeed (she’s super talented), but isn’t this the same label that signed Ashanti after she left Murder Inc.? If that is the case, we might be looking at Music World Entertainment 2.0. Ashanti’s album flopped hard due to a lack of promotion. I hope that doesn’t happen to Kelly.

It doesn’t matter. Unless she comes out with a serious banging record, nobody will be checking for her. She and Michelle Williams will always be in Beyonce’s shadow. Sad, how Matthew Knowles has used all of the former band members to help build Beyonce’s career and then set them up to fail. Now, they all watch from the sidelines as Beyonce has become one of the most successful and richest entertainers while their careers have basically failed.

Actually that’s the best route for her to take money-wise. She MUST have crossover appeal, and you can sell millions abroad if the US doesn’t work. That was a very smart move on her part, and Amerie needs to do the same thing.

I don’t believe it was Matty Knowles fault that Beyonce became a superstar and Kelly didn’t. Think about Dreamgirls which was based on Diana Ross and The Supremes. Diana was a good singer but her singing wasn’t what made her the lead singer, it was her looks and stage presence that got her to be a successful entertainer and household name. Thus, it was inevitable for Beyonce to become the household name and successful solo artist. And to be quite honest, there was no “Jennifer Hudson” type singer in the group to begin with. I think all the former members of Destiny’s Child had about the same singing ability. Beyonce brought the looks and the stage presence. That’s it. Y’all know the saying, don’t hate the player, hate the ____.

I’m surprised that she signed with Universal Motown cause the last two songs that was on David Guetta’s album “When Love Takes Over” and “It’s The Way You Love Me” were dance tracks.
I think she should stay in that Pop/Dance/Techno/Club genre cause those two songs are HOTTT!!! especially “It’s The Way You Love Me”. Everytime I here that song it makes me what to shake my azz! LOL.
