Mike Vick is back in the news:
Imprisoned quarterback Michael Vick is seeking bankruptcy protection, saying he owes between $10 million and $50 million to creditors.
Vick filed Chapter 11 papers in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Newport News on Monday. The seven largest creditors listed in the court papers are owed a total of about $12.8 million. Vick is serving a 23-month prison sentence at the U.S. Penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kansas, after pleading guilty last year to bankrolling a dogfighting ring. He was subsequently suspended indefinitely without pay and lost all his major sponsors, including Nike. He also faces state charges related to dogfighting. According to the filing, the debt includes a $3.75 million prorated signing bonus the Atlanta Falcons are seeking to recover.

Michael Vick’s story is a tragedy. Here is a man that has natural athletic prowess and was well paid for it. Michael made more money in one year than most of us will make in an entire working career of 40 years. Yet he CHOSE to squander his good luck, his money and his reputation for some cheap titillating thrill of dog fighting. He CHOSE to spend his money on cars, houses, women (child support), drugs and dog fighting.
After all of this, he will have nothing to show for it. He’ll have to pick himself up and start all over again. Next time, if there is a next time…….we hope he’ll be smarter.

Thats sad for one reason. This dude did not rape anyone (R.Kelly) did not murder anyone (NYPD/Sean Bell) and he is spending time in jail for dog fighting. A crime that is definately heinous but not as horrible as the aboved mentioned. To me he was used as a *****, they made an example out of him and that isnt fair. I remember being at a sportsbar in Atl when his $130 mil (with a platform to make 100 million more) was announced. I turned to my right & looked a strange black man in his face and said, “I CAN’T BELIEVE THEY GAVE THAT STUPID ***** THAT KIND OF MONEY.” That man looked at me with disgust in his eyes as if I were just another black male bashing black woman. I betha he hasn’t forgotten the 1st person who tried to tell him Vick was stupid. Vick told the world he was stupid with his demeanor, persona, swagger and selfishness but everyone was caught up in the most exciting player in the NFL show. I can’t wait to see the movie. I don’t think we ever saw a ***** go down & lose so much as fast as Vick.
On a very personal note, I think this is what happens when you don’t give back. Vick was one of the few Falcons that did NOTHING for charities in ATL. His mom has a foundation that was name only but you never seen Vick out in the community like Ray “the mouth” Bucannan or Warrick Dunn.

Vick is going to be right back. He’s 28 years old and could be realesed next May making him 29. Brett Favre recently “retired” at 39 years old after one of the best seasons of his career. He’ll probably get a short term deal in the $10-$20 mil range. The owner of the Falcons even said he would welcome him back. All depends on whether the state of Virginia presses seperate charges.
The conviction may be for dogfighting but he was targeted for being in an uppercl***** neighborhood. The investigation began with drug accusations. We know how that goes.

Well damn. Tell us how you really feel. Why is every word capitalized? I understand that you love your dogs but there are some people who look at them the same as children & i just cant do that. @ Somer… where have you been boo?? Vick has given back to his community. He helped the Boys and Girls Club get equipment for the kids so that they could have equipment there to play with. He also bought uniforms for kids because their parents couldn’t afford them. He gave out turkeys and stuff during Thanksgiving as well. Do your research, of course the media doesn’t want to portray him as someone that has a heart, they want him to appear as a “hardened thug or criminal”.

I think Mike will play again. He is young. A few months back I heard he entered a rehab program to reduce his sentence from 23months to 12 months. If that is true, he should be out this fall. The feds don’t allow defense attorneys to play time table games to get cases extended for 6yrs (R.Kelly). Right now the state has allowed the defense team for the Atl courhouse killer Byron Nichols to play the time table game. If that were the feds, Nichols would be on death row right now. After 4yrs, Nichols trial has not started.
The feds got convictions on T.I., Westley Snipes, Lil’ Kim, ex-Atl mayor Bill Campbell and Martha Stewart. The feds put a cook book ***** in jail. The feds don’t arrest until they got a case. They don’t arrest then look for evidence the way these stupid ***** state prosecuters do. Right now the feds are building a case against Al Shapton about extortion. The will not put that permed up poverty pimp in hand cuffs til they can arrest, prosecute and sentence all within 9 months.

The part where your point was in the second part of my initial post which was solely in reference to animals. The part you chose to respond to was about people. I dont know what you mean by the R.Kelly & Romeo thing because everyone i have encountered, including myself, was *****ed at the R.Kelly verdict. As for Romeo & Nick Cannon, what trouble have they gotten into to warrant them being vilified when dumb Pacman gets a p*****? No one “ran” them out of anywhere. Im from Louisiana so i know Romeo is loved here & i have never heard anyone have a problem with Cannon.

Exactly man. Some people look at these damn dogs like children which i will never understand. My daughter is more important than ANYONE in my family let alone some damn dogs. People who have committed crimes against children are walking but this guy gets locked up? Dont get me wrong, it was absolutely stupid for him to get involved in this activity but the punishment is severely outweighing the crime.
I’m tired of the law behaving as if these animals are human beings. I’ve seen mothers who give birth to babies and then proceed to dump them in the trash and leave them left to die and receive less jail time. Pedophiles recive less jail time for molesting children. I think that he was made as a scapegoat. I think he should of received no more than 6 months. Pitbulls are vicious animals and are not equivalent to human beings.
He is broke because he did not generated enough income to cover his debts for the next 2 years that he remains in prison. This is exactly what the district attorney and the judge wanted. They hate to see a successful, rich person of color. I hope he has learned his lesson and play for the NFL when his sentence is up.
