Ice Cube to Prez: “Put ‘em up”

Posted by Bossip Staff

Ice Cube answers questions about his new album and calling out George W. Bush in a recent interview with the prestigious King Magazine:

You’re calling the new Lench Mob album Raw Footage. Sounds like a Hollywood sex tape.

I just wanted to do hip-hop for the brain. I’m not really worried about the club and the things that most people are worrying about right now. I’ve always prided myself on making the streets understand the politics of the day and, hopefully, making the politicians understand the streets a little bit.

On “Take a Nation,” you declare yourself “the only rapper who wanna fistfight the president.” Our money is on you.

Of course. The hook is, “It takes a nation of niggas to hold us back”—a statement in itself. Forces outside of hip-hop are starting to dictate what’s hot and what’s not. I wanted a record to talk about it: “That’s bullshit, we need to take it back.” We need to dictate what’s hot—not Viacom. I did Lench Mob to be able to do records how I wanted to do them, when I wanted to do them, and to promote them how I want to without nobody having nothing to say.

Another old-skool cat trying ‘reclaim‘ hip-hop? This should be interesting. The album is set to drop on August 18th. Click here to read the entire article.

  11. Blacksmith

There is some truth to that…Viacom owns BET, MTV, and VH1 and some other venues that put out ‘Top 40′ type music videos (if you can even catch a video these days). They also put out some of that ‘coon’ programming that still goes on at BET. People always fault the execs at BET for this, NO, NO, we need to fault the execs at Viacom (a French company) for that.

When is the last time France influenced hip-hop or had any influence on black culture? NEVER…until now. Keep that in mind the next time you see some foolish programming from those networks.

  12. I'm Just Me (I AIN'T WITH REDBONE N*GGAS)

First let me say Ice Cube can still get!!

2nd, I love everything he is saying. Let him reclaim hip hop. Unlike Ice-T he actually made an album instead of talking about it he is about. I am feeling it and I agree that artists need to have more control over what is being put out there.

  13. MAKE EM SWEAT

@ Nikki Yeah you right. My fault. The giddiness of being 1st got the best of me. *lowering my head in shame*

  14. MAKE EM SWEAT

@ Bossip. yeah, YEAH..What Ms Sexy Sugar said.

  15. P

Hip hop is a youth product. What’s important to me is having the youth make a better product than ‘ay bey bey’. If a Lench Mob album can do that, I support it 100%.

  16. hmm

I have always loved Cube. I like the fact that he does more than just talk about it. S*** if he wanted, he could make a movie about it too. Ice T went after a lil boy, Cube going after the ones that matter. Take note Ice T, Cube been doing it big since back in the day. You shoulda been paying attention then and need to pay attention now.

  23. MissBlaze43

Please, half of ya’ll don’t have a clue about what Ice Cube is about. But here’s what I’m about, I’m about reading up on what’s to come:

FEMA & REX84 Program = US Concentration Camps (already set up and ready for AMERICAN detainees)

EXECUTIVE ORDER 10990 = US takes over ALL Transportation

EXECUTIVE ORDER 10995 = US seize and control ALL communication media (already done)

EXECUTIVE ORDER 10997 = US takes control of ALL power, gas petroleum, fuels and minerals (already got gas on lock)

EXECUTIVE ORDER 10998 = allows the government to seize all means of transportation, including personal cars, trucks or vehicles of any kind and total control over all highways, seaports, and waterways

OMG!! The list goes on and on. Just go to FEMA Concentration Camps: Locations & Executive Orders.

OR, just keep reading the other foolishness on this site if you’re not interested in what’s to come for the AMERICAN PEOPLE!!

  24. sickofitt

  25. Z

that seems interesting but correct me if i am wrong but in the last election didn’t he vote republican? Now i could be wrong but i do remember talking about this in my Black politics cl***** in school.

  26. MissBlaze43

Oh, yeah. Please believe… you can forget about gas prices coming down. That ain’t gonna happen. AND for all of us who have bank accounts, what are you going to do when you go to the bank – and you KNOW that you have money in that bank – all of a sudden you have a $0 balance and the machine is telling you to see the Teller, but there IS NO TELLER because the government has seized all of your shyt, not the teller. The US economy people. It ain’t gonna get no better. The war over gas will be the same WAR OVER WATER!!! We don’t need another hero. MAD MAX BEYOND THUNDERDOME! It wasn’t just a movie – that’s gonna be us. So, yes, now is the time for us to have a Black President so that they can try and put this all on him, but in reality our fate was already mapped out by our illustriate government YEARS AGO! Oh, you don’t believe in the New World Order and The Illuminati. You better have your bags packed, with an extra cell phone battery, dry & canned food, with ID in a bag packed and sitting by where you can get to it quick. Ya’ll not ready!!!

  41. najeeba
  42. And.....(with 5 dots)

“Another old-skool cat trying ‘reclaim‘ hip-hop?”

You damn right because obviously these youngins are clueless about what hip-hop is REALLY about. They are brainwashed and clowned-up and coonified by the white-owned media and music industry. 99% of the music and TV shows for Blacks is wack and embarr*****ing. In my day we had Public Enemy, NWA, Salt n Pepa, The Cosby’s, a Different World, Living Single. Today we got Soulja Boy, Pretty Ricky, I Love NY, Flav or Love, The Baldwins, and other BS. I hope old-schooler like Ice Cube start a revolt to take back the music.

  43. INOCENTbiSTANDR

I hear ya at BlAZE but really when the time comes and if all this was already set in motion it aint gonna be SHYT *****ody can do. So my suggest is just trust believe and have faith in GOD and everything will be alright.

  44. The System Is A Fraud!

    @MissBlaze43

Simple minded people, aint listening. They prefer to live in a dream world believing that a some bling bling, a car and brand name clothes is all that matters. They aint listening or learning. The info. you breaking off to them is like some thing from a movie, the matrix or something. Its sad when the reality hits it will be too late for them. Keep spreading the word. Blessings

  45. Z

    @Chaka

    He voted for bush.

  46. candycurlswirl

TEAM ICE CUBE!!! IS IN THA HOUSE :-)

  47. P

Blaze, several of us know about those thing that you’ve posted. What do you suggest we do, post it in completely unrelated topics on message boards?

We can’t get the Democrats to stand up on a simple issue like HABEUS CORPUS much less some executive orders slipped in three years ago.

  48. a true king in da game, ice “f**king” cube….yes sirrrr.

  49. Brooklyn, Stand UP!

@ ms braided beauty chicagos own chi town stepper

    Hey Ms. BB!! :)

  50. I bet a lot of rappers who are slaves to the record labels will be grateful for Cube’s efforts. There is no way a creative poet could really be satisfied with rapping about the same thing over and over and over because the label forces him/her to. Of course if the artist is manufactured with no real skills beyond their style of delivery then maybe they can be cool with it, but I’m sure most of them have more to say than what we have been hearing the last few years. Precious few have been allowed to step out of that cookie cutter box and the fans are partly to blame. We are the ones who keep eating it up instead of demanding more although I think that is changing too. We are tired of the status quo.

  51. bria

You can blame the executives for the crapt that is on BET. Viacom is a parent company they are not sitting in the programming room when they create that crapt. Viacom is not sitting there when someone is creating I Luv New York. So you can put the blame on these racisist ***** executives and producers that put that crapt on the air. But the real racisist are the black people who continually watch that crapt.

I don’t really listen too hip-hop I have never been a fan, but, I can understand what Ice Cube is talking about. Their is something they are calling a British soul invasion on VH1 where they have all of these white girls from London who are supposedly soul singers. Not one mention of the young lady Estelle who’s from over there as well, because they keep trying too promote her as a hip-hop artisist. It is time we took our music back.

  52. glok9n

@TOOSEXY ! WHATZ UP SIS! IM LATE BEAUTIFUL! SEE YOU NEXT TIME!

  53. Sunshine305

For some reason i think Bush would kick Cube’s *****!

  54. kenya

i’ve been an cube fan since day one when he was with nwa. even though he wrote all thier rhymes…he got no respect. remember the video “we want eazy” instead of having him on stage…he was in the audience and in the jail scene as a fellow inmate. i was so glad when he left those idiots because it proved to all of us who the real mc was in that group. when he hooked up with public enemy and released amerikkkas most wanted, he once again proved that he never needed nwa…they needed him. his songs have always been politically charged. i think his best work besides amw is the war and peace double cd he put out earlier this decade. i dont usually buy hip hop anymore, but i will definitely be buying his.

  55. MJ

He is not trying to ‘reclaim’ hip-hop in the younger generation vs older generation sense (ie. Ice-T V Soulja Boy), he’s talking about stripping it from the corporate powers, the folks who have no allegiance to the art, the communities from which its born or to even the artists who create (the good stuff and the bad stuff). They care about their bottom line and corporate shareholders…none of whom look like any of us or any of the artists (hell, Jay isn’t even one of them). So I wouldn’t frame this as an older cat trying to be relevent ‘oh this should be interesting. I wouldn’t be flippant about it. One of the most gangster MC’s with bonafides from decades of hip-hop and artists with political cred like P.E. has something to say and has a business strategy that isn’t only empowering, its common sense and it should be the future. Plus some of the stuff on the last album was nice; of course it got no mainstream love due to the stranglehold the giants like Viacom have on the industry. Anyways, don’t count dude out, young folks should listen to him especially, and he can give us gangster political discourse in his raps (actually he already has if you really know your history)…thing is, he can do this, he doesn’t need to eat off of music….he’s got that good, good movie money. I’m proud of his business swag!!

    Yeahee Yayee!!!

  56. Best mom

Hey @ The System is a Fraud! I hear you loud and clear and your words are true for the most part, BUT I have raised my 14 yr old daughter on REAL *****, issues that have mattered to us since W.E. Dubois, King, Malcolm, Thurgood, Juneteenth, Vietnam, Mandella, NWA, Eric B & Rakim, Do The Right Thing and much much more… Now, with her private school upbringing she knows in a heartbeat that Cube is one of my most favoritest rappers of all mother fvckin time and 2Pac is at the TOP of her list! Just the other day I was (as always) talking out of line with her and one of her lil girlfriends and jokingly said I was going to smack the ***** out of someone and her lil friend said “when you pimp slap her make sure you have your big diamond ring on”, and that made me soooooooooo proud to know that they know what’s really real!

I,m from PA and now live in Cali and cain’t wait to hear some ol’ skool Cube ***** and crank my sounds up on the 10 and 57 fwy Bay-bay!!!!!!!
