Divide & Conquer

After an interview with a Fox “News” correspondent, Jesse Jackson conveniently whispered that he wanted to “cut Obama’s nuts off” while on camera – and of course, the vultures at Faux News couldn’t wait to put that sh*t on blast.

Click HERE to see this foolishness for yourselves.

Messy Jesse is throwin back that haterade like a champ. We suspect there’s some bona fide jealousy at play. But he’s so irrelevant at this point. It’s high time for that sucka to sit the hell down.

Update – Jesse apologizes, sort of:

“Well, they were hurtful and wrong, that’s the whole point,” Jackson said of his words. “And when you make mistakes you should not equivocate. You should be quick to go into offensive and not try to be evasive. And if it was said to him personally or in some public forum it would be even more hurtful. In this case, my error was responding to a question before a live mic. And so when he does hear them they will not be helpful; they will be hurtful. We have a relationship that can survive this.”

Yeah – Whateva Jesse. Shut your tired ass the f**k up already.

I’m telling you, blaming the white man for our problems is LAME and REDUNDANT!! Black people are their own worst enemies. They bring most of their problems on THEMSELVES!!! Jackson and Sharpton types feed into this mentality, in order to create MORE racial tension.

Oh, and all this will do is help Obama by the mere margin undecided voters that have qualms with Jackson will see this for what it is and that being a guile act for a secret agenda…..

  • Pimps & Preachers

Both Jesse & Sharpton have made a living, lining their own pockets for the last few decades, by pimping Black folk. Telling us it’s all somebody else’s fault that we poor and don’t go to school the way we should. Now why would a man want to cut the nuts off of another man when he tells him to be responsible and take care of us children. prolly cause Jesse thin Obama is taking a swipe at him for having that babygurl a few years ago then walking away. I will be so glad when all these old self- style, no good ideas, preachers and pimps die out, I don’t know want to do. Jackson day and way of doing things is over so why don’t he just go off somewhere and show some dignity instead of all this hidden envy that’s coming out of him showing the public how he really thinks of forward thinking, responsible, intelligent Black men who truly understands the world and where our place in it needs to be.

  • http://www.myspace.com/pure_comedy Chitown Sista

Jealous Jackson just hatin cuz he not gettin love like Obama…why must there be envious chumps always surrounding ppl tryin to do somethin to better the world?

  • Yeaa im white

    @dr.tooth

  • Willy

Even the bible states that a man who doesn’t take care of his own children is worst than an infidel. I just read that on another blog and it’s so true. yet a preacher like Jesse don’t want to hear that.

  • dayg715

black people never cease to amaze me.

  • one4u2ntce

It is unfortunate that in the process of the Rev. Jesse Jackson’s career that he has to have this blemish. He has done more for African-Americans in this country than a lot of us can say we’ve done for ourselves. We don’t want to lose sight of his legacy. Did he make a foolish error? Hell Yeah! But who amongst us is really holy enough to cast the first stone?

  • SWEET CHEEKS

Smh@ the ignorance. A private conversation at a news station? Couldn’t wait until you maybe left the building. I’m glad it was exposed so people can see how he really talks and thinks. So sad. Yes he has a legacy, but this was just foolish and to say you want to cut someone’s nuts off Jesse?

  • Y’all Play 2 Much…

Sounds like someone is HATIN’ on the fact that Barack got much farther in his bid for President than Jesse did. And while were talking about hating…isn’t Jesse the one that fathered a child outside of his marriage. Jesse’s own son indicated that what his father said towards Barack was a disgrace…

I really need Jesse Jackson to go sat down somewhere…

    corperatecutieshayshay….

Not only do I see this but I am dismayed by our reality. How much exertion does it take to demonstrate support? If you don’t even what to show support how much does it take to exhibit respect? Jackson is a fool to say this man ‘talks down to black people’. I hate to say it but some black people you have to dumb it down for (white people also). This will truly impinge on the support that the Rainbow Coalition will obtain.

  • Til You Do Right By Me…

    @ Smokey,

Girl you got me hollering this morning..LOL!! Find JB’s Killer….too funny!

Yeah, Jesse went too far, but don’t we all at times? He just got caught. Yeah, there are some jealousy issues at play but lets not cut Jesse up too bad. I know he’s done some whack stuff…but he’s done a lot of good for the Black community…lets not dog him too much! I think the real story is how Jesse Jr READ his dad! He came for his father.

Obama’s telling the truth about black men (not all of course…props to ones doing their thang and holding down their family)

Yep Nikki….he said Cut The Balls Off! Dang!

  • Just Sayin

Jesse has always been a fake. Ever since MLK was shot and he lied about holding MLK in his arms. He also wore the shirt with blood on it when he did interviews. He has always been a joke to me!

He gets not respect from me!

Especially when he knows that cutting a black mans nuts off was what the white lynch mobs used to do when they hung blacks down south.

Isn’t he the same “Reverend Jackson” who had a child out of wedlock?

  • dayg715

i think this is a publicity stunt. the agenda, i don’t know, but you mean to tell me as long as his old ignorant ass has been doing this, he really forgot his mic was on?

    KZZME…..

I’m goodie!! Just a little perturbed….I’ve brought out the big words today…so you know I’m aggravated….

  • Just Sayin

Jesse Jackson isn’t letting anything like a secret out-of-wedlock daughter and growing questions about his personal and organization funding get him down.

On the contrary: He’s pressing forward with his Wall Street Project, in which some of America’s largest corporations have donated millions to his network of charities and organizations.

Ostensibly, Jackson’s projects are designed to increase minority participation on Wall Street. But many corporations have learned that a hefty donation to Jackson’s causes is simply the best way to change the reverend’s political course and bring him around to their side.

And the best way to ensure Jackson’s support is to make sure that his family and close friends get a large slice of the pie. No wonder Jackson’s most recent book is entitled, “It’s About the Money: How to Build Wealth, Get Access to Capital and Achieve Your Financial Dreams.”

IT all began in the early ’80s, when Jackson’s demands moved Coca-Cola to award more distributorships to minorities. Among those who got the lucrative contracts: Jackson’s half-brother, Noah Robinson (now serving a life prison sentence for hiring gang members to kill three business associates).

In 1996, Jackson successfully pressured Texaco to pony up hundreds of millions to settle a discrimination lawsuit – even though no racial discrimination was ever proven. (A “smoking-gun” tape of company execs was later determined to contain no racial slurs.)

But Jackson had learned that companies will pay up in order to avoid bad publicity and accusations of racism – even if totally unfounded. So in 1997 he formed the Wall Street Project – which now rakes in some $10 million a year.

And as investigations by The Post, the Chicago Sun-Times and the Los Angeles Times demonstrate, Jackson’s support was easily bought. Indeed, noted the L.A. Times, “Corporations have paid handsomely to get Jackson off their backs.”

    For example:

    * In February 1997, Jackson filed a petition with the FCC to block Viacom’s bid to sell 10 radio stations, saying the company had reneged on a promise to sell some of them to minorities.

Viacom agreed to create a $2 million fund to promote minority ownership of broadcast properties. Jackson then ended his opposition, and the sale was approved. The fund is administered by Washington lobbyist Warner Session – who later awarded the Jackson’s Citizenship Education Fund (CEF) $680,000.

    * In May 1998, Jackson called President Clinton to block a proposed merger of SBC and Ameritech, calling it “antithetical to basic democratic values.”

In early 1999, the two firms pledged $1 million to CEF; Ameritech agreed to sell its cellular business to a new partnership that included longtime Jackson pal Chester Davenport, who had no previous telecommunications experience.

Davenport later hired Jackson’s son Jonathan – who also happens to be president of CEF – as a consultant. (Jackson’s wife Jacqueline is a member of the CEF board, and their son Yusef is the board attorney.)

In March 1999, Jackson declared the merger to be “in the public interest.

    * In 1998, Jackson’s sons Yusef and Jonathan were awarded the largest Anheuser-Busch beer distributorship in Chicago by company head August Busch IV. He’d been introduced to the Jacksons by Beverly Hills billionaire Ron Burkle – who later hired Karin Stanford, mother of Jesse’s child, as a “consultant.”

Back in the ’80s, Jesse Jackson had organized a boycott of Anheuser-Busch, complaining about the company’s hiring and promotion practices. The two Jackson sons today refuse to disclose their own minority-hiring practices.

    * In Dec. 1998, Jackson threatened to block the GTE-Bell Atlantic merger unless he got guarantees regarding the minority community. Over the next four months, the companies pledged $1.5 million to CEF and gave Chester Davenport a 7 percent stake – and the chairmanship – of its new cellular business.

In May 1999, Jackson endorsed the merger, now known as Verizon. And five Verizon executives just addressed Jackson’s latest Wall Street Project conference.

    * In Dec. 1998, Jackson opposed AT&T’s merger with TCI, charging the latter has “a “questionable record and a poor level of public service.”

The next month, AT&T pledged $425,000 to the CEF and sent its chairman to one of Jackson’s conferences, where he pledged to hire a minority-owned firm to handle its bond offering. The firm that was eventually chosen for the $750,000 contract, Blaylock & Partners, has close ties to Jackson.

    * In Feb. 1999, Jackson negotiated a settlement in a racial discrimination lawsuit filed against Boeing by 13,000 employees.

Days later, Boeing donated $50,000 to the CEF and made several subsequent donations. Later, the company arranged for hundreds of millions in company pension funds to be administered by minority-owned investment banks, at least two of which are Jackson financial backers.

    * In May 1999, Jackson pressured PepsiCo – on the eve of its initial public offering – to give part of the lucrative deal to Utendahl Capital Partners, which has since donated tens of thousands to CEF; PepsiCo has given substantially more.

    * In Sept. 1999, Jackson opposed the merger of CBS and Viacom. Two days later, Jackson – together with Chester Davenport and longtime partner Percy Sutton, a CEF board member (Jackson and his wife hold $1.2 million worth of shares in Sutton’s Inner City Broadcasting) met with CBS Chairman Mel Karmazin and urged him to sell the UPN network to a minority owner.

Viacom and UPN then pledged $730,000 to the CEF. The FCC eventually approved the merger – contingent on Viacom selling UPN within one year.

Jackson also took Sutton along to promote Inner City investments (in which, as a shareholder, he and his wife stand to benefit) during a trade mission to Africa in his role as Clinton’s special envoy to the continent.

One of the few corporate heads to resist Jackson’s shakedown efforts was T. J. Rodgers, CEO of Cypress Semiconductor, who insisted his industry’s workforce is appropriately diverse. The response from Team Jackson: “We can now officially describe Cypress Semiconductor as a white-supremacist hate group.”

“He declares racism based on dubious statistics,” Rodgers told the Los Angeles Times. “Then he gives you a chance to repent – and the basic way to [repent] is to give Jesse money. The threat is you’ll be labeled a racist if you don’t.”

For years, the news media have taken a hands-off attitude to Jackson – particularly when it comes to his finances and his political hustling. Now, his personal scandal has finally forced him to open up the books and records. And it’s becoming increasingly clear that Jesse Jackson has a great deal of explaining to do.

    OBAMA ’08

  • Joe

Jessy and his butt buddies in the media have been preaching that we are victims and nothing but victims who can’t do anything unless the government is their holding us by the hand. Look were that defeatist attitude has got us in the last 40 odd years. Look how it has led to the destruction of the Black family, where the father walks away and the poor, struggling single mother is left alone to raise her family. By the time most of these fatherless Black boys reach twelve years old they are mad at their mothers and angry with the rest of the world. Nobody can tell them anything and they act like going to jail is like going to school. it is no accident that the majority of the Black men involved in the penal system were raised without a father. No father in the home teaching them discipline and the vital importance of a work ethnic so that they can grow up and take care of themselves. Anybody that tells you it is alright for you to be irresponsible and to walk away from a man’s responsiblity is a fool and just plain wrong and stupid. Their are folks who wouldn’t have a job or get any attention whatsoever, if Black people stopped complaining and did things for themselves. Those self-styled, leaders who think they are kings would be laughed at by us and ignored and they know it that’s why they still desperately try to hang on and keep to an old agenda that simply does not work. But they would rather die than to admit it.

  • DR. TOOTH

I forgot my initial point. Nothings new, its a fact of life, you cant please every body all the time. Not everyones going to agree 100% of the time with all that Obama says and thats fair game.

I see it as this, the only black people really taking offense to what Obama said are ones who are doing exactly what he is talking about which is not taking care of their responsibilities as dads. My Dad, supervisors, and any other men I know who are true dads and not just baby makers loved that speech and agreed with it. I heard no complaints from them.

And he continues to call himself a “reverand”?

The thing about all of this, he is actually loving all of this media attention!!!

Obama has a legitimate chance at becoming the president of the United States and look at how jealous the Reverand is…

    THIRDLY

every brother ain’t a brother and i’m not saying that barack obama ain’t a brother…but i’m also not following him blindly and in lockstep like everyone else that has jumped on the bandwagon.

why is is that barack obama’s election to the white house is now dependent on a bunch of grown ass black men, including rev. wright, tavis smiley, al sharpton and jesse jackson, all of whom have contributed mightily to the black community despite the controversy that surrounds them, (and mind you, while folks were critiquing what they were doing, WHO ELSE was stepping up to keep the black agenda in the forefront of the media) shutting up and sitting down? i think that scares me as much as four more years of republican rule. if a bunch of people have to be diminished and dismissed so that one man can get in office, then that’s a problem. in my humble opinion.

I got news for you, the majority on us has always agreed with what Obama said about personal responsibilty. Unfortunatley, we didn’t stand up and shout it out the way we should have when we saw the Black family train veering off the tracks. And, unfortunately again, the wrong people with big mouths always saying the wrong things, like blaiming this one, that one and the other for our own destructive ways, did stand up and shout about how it’s not our fault that we do stupid things. The creaking wagon always gets the grease (and the media attention).

  • Just Sit and Be Pretty

Just sayin…wow, you did your homework…who knew!! All I know is that the Sunday after 9-11 when Jesse came to my church, I had to walk out in the middle of the service because at a time when folks were looking for some type of comfort/peace, answers, etc. all he could stand in the pulpit and do was insult Colin Powell, bash the Bush administration for not inviting him to Camp David when a bunch of leaders met there soon after 9-11, brag about his own successful meetings with controversial foreign leaders, Quadaffi, Milosevic, etc. The kicker was then when the congregation was asked for a special offering to support his organization and help finance his trip to the Middle East…to what, meet with Bin Laden?!?! WTH?!?!

I was thoroughly disgusted because at that point in time, it was obvious that he had his own personal agenda that he was pushing and could give care less about the real fear and pain folks were experiencing…

    Well said, well said…

The level of stupidity and arrogance it takes to make a statement like that in a new room is beyond my understanding. When you hold the title of “Reverend” your supposed to represent the best (not perfect)because there are a lot of people with less knowledge and strength that look up to you. What must his congregation think. I know we are supposed to focus on the word and not the person, but a weaker person’s faith would be shaken.

    Truly a sad affair.

This is even more reason to get out and vote for Obama! We (all people) need someone in office who represents the best that we have to offer. Someone of moral turpitude, sustenance, intellect, spirituality and family values.

From everything I see he is a shining example for all us black men. He has a wife and two daughters that he loves very deeply. If we can learn to love our women and lil like this then maybe we will love ourselves more as black men.

    Can we do it?

    YES WE CAN!!!

Jackson has collected millions in donations for many, many years, so where has that money gone? Has he provided scholarships for poor children? Didn’t his own children go to privates schools? Who paid? Has that money built low-cost housing, provided training classes in the inner-city? Taught any poor person new skills? Where has all that money gone?

  • Just Sayin

@ Just Sit and Be Pretty

    Thanks…

That’s really sad. The devil knows how to play on a person’s vulnerability. How’s he gonna ask the congregation for money when he has enough money to pay for the trip himself and write it off as a business expense for “his own” church.

I for one find it good that they put it on blast.

We need to call out these so called leaders (regardless of race) so people can see them for who they really are. People should listen closely to what these so called leaders say.

It is usually 1% truth and 99% fertilizer. There’s a great book called, “Blink” that’s worth picking up. I purchased it on audio CD to listen to while driving. Also look into the book, never be lied to again. It won’t stop people from lying to you but you will catch so many people lying it will make your head spin.

This will undoubtedly help Barak Obmama. After Rev. Wright, a lot of moderate and independent whites were uneasy with him. Right or wrong, a lot of (for the most part) decent white people resent being blamed for all of the black community’s ills. They see Jesse and Al as the epitome of this mindset.

The fact that Jesse talked sh!t about Barak in that context only serves to make Obama look more Presidential.

Google Sister Souljah and President Clinton and compare that to this situation. Just as she allowed Clinton to appeal to more moderate whites, Jesse has done our boy a favor.

    SO ACTUALLY……uh, thanks Jesse

  • scoobysnacks

Jackson’s time has passed, and he’s a Reverend? yeah, whatever, on a Sunday noless, talking about taking my Man’s nuts off….Ya’ll know that Obama was absolutely correct in what he said about black men needing to step up as fathers. Jackson didn’t have a father in the home, so he should be able to understand where Obama was coming from with his comments (nor did Obama have his father). And at least Obama doesn’t have any children out of wedlock like Jackson does, maybe he felt Obama called him out and embarrassed him, who knows. All I know is there’s no other ethnic group who keep the “crabs in the barrel” mentality going full throttle like black folks do. And, yes, I’m black.

Jesse needs to go sit his ass down somewhere. People are still talking about Hymietown, and that was twenty yrs ago, or twenty four. Can’t he ever learn? I’m sure Bill Clinton is somewhere laughing his ass off too, both of them ENVY Obama.

  • Just Sayin

I wonder if jesse and al have ever read the willie lynch’s speach.

    Here’s an excerpt:

    The Greeting

“Gentlemen. I greet you here on the bank of the James River in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and twelve. First, I shall thank you, the gentlemen of the Colony of Virginia, for bringing me here. I am here to help you solve some of your problems with slaves. Your invitation reached me on my modest plantation in the West Indies, where I have experimented with some of the newest and still the oldest methods for control of slaves. Ancient Rome’s would envy us if my program is implemented. As our boat sailed south on the James River, named for our illustrious King, whose version of the Bible we Cherish, I saw enough to know that your problem is not unique. While Rome used cords of wood as crosses for standing human bodies along its highways in great numbers, you are here using the tree and the rope on occasions. I caught the whiff of a dead slave hanging from a tree, a couple miles back. You are not only losing valuable stock by hangings, you are having uprisings, slaves are running away, your crops are sometimes left in the fields too long for maximum profit, You suffer occasional fires, your animals are killed. Gentlemen, you know what your problems are; I do not need to elaborate. I am not here to enumerate your problems, I am here to introduce you to a method of solving them. In my bag here, I HAVE A FULL PROOF METHOD FOR CONTROLLING YOUR BLACK SLAVES. I guarantee every one of you that if installed correctly IT WILL CONTROL THE SLAVES FOR AT LEAST 300 HUNDREDS YEARS. My method is simple. Any member of your family or your overseer can use it. I HAVE OUTLINED A NUMBER OF DIFFERENCES AMONG THE SLAVES; AND I TAKE THESE DIFFERENCES AND MAKE THEM BIGGER. I USE FEAR, DISTRUST AND ENVY FOR CONTROL PURPOSES. These methods have worked on my modest plantation in the West Indies and it will work throughout the South. Take this simple little list of differences and think about them. On top of my list is “AGE” but it’s there only because it starts with an “A.” The second is “COLOR” or shade, there is INTELLIGENCE, SIZE, SEX, SIZES OF PLANTATIONS, STATUS on plantations, ATTITUDE of owners, whether the slaves live in the valley, on a hill, East, West, North, South, have fine hair, course hair, or is tall or short. Now that you have a list of differences, I shall give you a outline of action, but before that, I shall assure you that DISTRUST IS STRONGER THAN TRUST AND ENVY STRONGER THAN ADULATION, RESPECT OR ADMIRATION. The Black slaves after receiving this indoctrination shall carry on and will become self refueling and self generating for HUNDREDS of years, maybe THOUSANDS. Don’t forget you must pitch the OLD black Male vs. the YOUNG black Male, and the YOUNG black Male against the OLD black male. You must use the DARK skin slaves vs. the LIGHT skin slaves, and the LIGHT skin slaves vs. the DARK skin slaves. You must use the FEMALE vs. the MALE. And the MALE vs. the FEMALE. You must also have you white servants and over- seers distrust all Blacks. But it is NECESSARY THAT YOUR SLAVES TRUST AND DEPEND ON US. THEY MUST LOVE, RESPECT AND TRUST ONLY US. Gentlemen, these kits are your keys to control. Use them. Have your wives and children use them, never miss an opportunity. IF USED INTENSELY FOR ONE YEAR, THE SLAVES THEMSELVES WILL REMAIN PERPETUALLY DISTRUSTFUL. Thank you gentlemen.”

That’s always been a problem with so-called “black intellectuals” like Dyson or Cornel West or guys like Jesse.

I believe it’s overcompensation for years of being underestimated by their white peers. Thinking, “I better sound the most educated in the room, because everyone thinks I am the least educated.”

I love Cornel West, but gawd, listening to him is exhausting. I heard Dyson speak in college and it was obvious he was trying to show us how sophisticated his vocabulary was (that and he was speaking to us like we were in church, which was annoying). I just think they are a product of what they came up in, but dayum, it’s too much.

  • Yep I said it

Jesse Jackson is and has always been an ignorant buffoon. He is has already proven himself to be a cheating hypocrite. Sorry but he neither speaks for nor represents black people. He speaks for himself.

Obama gives a speech that calls on his own people to be better, for men to take responsibility for their children and to stop abandoning other black women. He also encouraged us to improve ourselves and pursue education. All valid things that needed to be said

However apparently, Jesse Jackson is offended by this. He is a part of ignorant black culture than encourages us to blame others for our woos. To continue eaking out an existence at the bottom of the totem pole. And to live in our ancestors past and not in our own present or strive for a better future. Sorry but Jesse Jackson is not relevant.

That’s got to hurt Obama’s feeling in a real way. There’s this constant snub by the old black guard and its so scathing. I guess when you’re no longer respected and lauded by your own you get salty as hell.

But in a way I think the snubs have benefitted Senator Obama cause the country completely trust’s him as the one to to be the future leader of our country. Obama is not the black candidate; he’s America’s candidate and all disassociation from the Sharpton’s and Messy Jesse’s of the world will do nothing but propel this man into the presidency.

Jesse I’m so disappointed in you and saddened by your foolish antics. I can only imagine what you have said about Obama that we haven’t heard.

  • sickofitt

Jesse is pissed because of all that money Obama raised for his campaign. He wants dibs on the mulah. He wants to slime his way in Obama’s campaign, but Obama is not falling for it. Leave the snakes out back with the wolves. I have no respect for Jesse. I never had respect for him. Back when the news broke about his affair and the child he had outside of his marriage this fool was actually giving speaches at the Planned Parenthood. Jesse has been a hypocrite for decades, but sad to say he will still have his old black folk following. Regardless of what he has done, this looser is a saint to them. like i said that was a response to “yeaa im white” thats why i put the JonBenet reference in there.

but what my point was and what you need to understand is that Rev. Jackson’s opinion or mind state is not unique. alot of older black people feel the same way about Sen. Obama because they come from a different time. and instead of being so quick to judge we should try to be understanding. imagine if you were spit on and called out of your name and basically treated like a second class citizen? how would you feel about unifying the races? im not agreeing or condoning any of Rev. Jackson’s action cuz like i said i dont agree. it is just a case of old school mentality verses new school mentality and we cant live in the past we have to move forward. but while we move forward we should not forget the struggles of people like Rev. Jackson. you cant blame him for thinking the way he does no more than you can blame a woman thats been raped for not trusting men. thats all im saying

Did anyone see the brother on the Situation Room on CNN trying to explain to Wolf Blitzer ‘nem that Jesse Jackson doesn’t represent all black people!!! I was like, why won’t they let him talk, they’re always trying to argue people down when they don’t make the point they want them to make.

And has anyone seen Jamal Simmons as of late?! I can’t stand not seeing him as much now that primary season is over.

I love me some Roland Martin, I have to remember he’s a married man, working on a seminary degree, but I love the way he speaks!!!

ALSO: Jesse Jackson SENIOR has had it in for Obama from day one. When the Jena 6 catastrophe was happening, he was calling out Obama for not doing more. I’m like, he’s running for president, he can’t look like an opportunist and put himself out there. Obama commented on it plenty, but what would his coming down there do to help? Not a d@mn thing, the people in Jena made up their mind before the protestors even got there.

I noticed someone above mentioned how Jesse Jr. is working for Obama, and I’m glad to see that, too. I love Jesse Junior, and I don’t think he’ll get the props he deserves because of who his father is.

Nobody is saying that we should forget out past, cause I’m always talking about the white man and his b.s., but at the same time Jesse doesnt represent the new generation of black people who aren’t scared of white folks and who are taking responsibilites for themselves. What’s so wrong with telling black men to get off their asses and be more take care of their 5 kids by 4 baby mama’s? What’s wrong with telling black men to be MEN….Nothing…

He not talking down to black people, he’s actually trying to uplift us. But we so stupid, we want to always blame somebody else and wait for them to fix our problems….

I bet Malcolm is rolling over in grave too.

  • WhatsYoursIsMine

    @Southern Bella:

    A: I love your name!

B: I agree with you 100%. I used to love the Jesse Jackson you see on old Civil Rights footage. I was the only kid I knew who enjoyed Eyes on the Prize, and he was a GREAT GREAT man. I hate seeing him now. I can see how people switch parties as they get older, and again, I believe if he had more clout outside of our community, he’s one of the ones that would switch over to the Republican side.

When he says/does stupid things like this, it overshadows some of this accomplishments. Remember when he had the hostages freed (I think it was the Middle East), we’ll never hear about that because of stupid stunts like this.

AND ANYONE who has been miked to be on TV knows that you don’t say anything you wouldn’t want someone to hear as long as you have your microphone on. Even if you’re on the set, you don’t say sh!t. I learned that in HIGH SCHOOL, this man is a media pro, he knew what he was saying. I refuse to believe this was a “slip of the tongue”…

  • bria

Jessie Jackson is the one that is out of touch with black people and the black communities. It is a shame that all of these babies are being born out of wedlock. It is a shame that most of these children don’t know their father nor their father’s family. As a child who was abandon by her bioglogical father that is something that you never get over. He chose drugs over his children and we do need to get ourselves together.

Our children are out of control. Some of our women want to be forever teenagers and don’t want to assume responsiblilty for their children and it is so sad. Our young men feel hopeless like no one cares about them and are young women are going around dressed like women of the nite. Like they are getting ready to solicit for sex.

I think it is time we took a stand from these so call civil rights leaders and let them know this mess aint cool and you all are going to stop using us. But the main thing we need to do is assume responsiblity for ourselves and our children and it is not too late for us to get it together.

    @southernbella

you just said pretty much what i said just in a different way. like i said its old school mentality vs. new school mentality. i am with obama and his ideals all the way! what i was saying is that i can understand why someone like Rev. Jackson would say things like that(not the cut his nuts off part, that was just frickin stupid!). and we all know Rev. jackson and sharpton run their mouths at the wrong time! they dont speak for all black people(especially me)

there is nothing wrong with what Sen. Obama said cuz he is exactly right. its time to stop pointing fingers and get off our black asses(black men) and make good things happen for our women and our and our children and our people as a whole!

  • Donnie

As someone stated above, Obama must beware of the jackson’s, both the father and the son. Because Jesse’s son shows the same opportunist nature as his father. You should see the district he resides over in Chicago. He may claim to like Obama and even work in Obama’s campaign, but Obama doesn’t and shouldn’t trust him. Obama doesn’t even need him and must stop thinking that the old dying breed likes him because they don’t an will stab him in the back just wait and see.

  • Change is on the Way! YES WE CAN!!!

    actually….

I bet every black man or woman who laid down their life for our rights is rolling over in their grave….

Oh, and I love how Jesse’s son dug in his ass….priceless!!

  • WordzOfaProphet (if nobody hate u, u not on ur JOB)

This is the “aplolie” i mean apology that Jackson gave the media, as usual his ass is just rambling with a bunch of big words…

Jackson said of his words.

  • Fed Up With Preachers

Roland Martin talks too much like jesse jackson for my taste. Too much of that blame whitey mess that has got us in this sorry state today. So Roland’s gonna be a preacher huh? Don’t like the sound of that cuz I am sick and tired of these think they know it all preachers. The Lord helps those who help themselves but too many preachers today they follow that truth. Too many Black preachers think the Government should do it all, when the government should stay out of our business and let us be responsible for ourselves.

  • Fed Up With Preachers

I meant to say that the Lord helps those who help themselves, but too many preachers don’t follow that truth.

  • v-fromRock

This sounds like jealousy and even though Jesse might not agree with some of Obama’s views at least don’t say them on the air. Everyone knows that the mic is always hot. Television 101..you would think he would have know this by now.

  • What the…

What kills me…how is what he said even constructive criticism and needs to be said? Like how dare he try to fix the community without Jesse.

Jesse is too seasoned to talk that reckless. Maybe Obama hit a nerve since Jesse’s got side kids and been “fixing” the community for so many years.

People forget, Jesse is an arse old P. Stone and a Clinton payee. We know about him in Chicago, and he all the Revs are mad cause they blocked Obama out for 10 years..so BO went around them and took it.

And if he wins, now they have to kiss his ass and hate it.

  • southernbella

I really wish these so call “black leaders” would stop blaming white people and start education black people on white people. Youth today dint understand their past, that’s why they cant move into the future. And to be honest th generation to blame is Jesse’s. They had the power to uplift and make sure that we were headed into the right direction, but they got caught up in the mighty dollar and bussing down hoes…

That’s why I love Malcolm so much because he wanted balck people to get themselves together and THEN unite with the white man. We didnt even understand outselves or power, yet we jump of the first chance we got to “integrate” with white folks…

We dont know who we are, that’s why its hard for us to accept Obama. We think that he thinks he more because he’s educated and takes responsibility for his family.

I get that all the time from my so called friends who dont have an education. They think I think I’m more than them because I refuse to have a baby out of wed lock and I want to have stable career adn travel BEFORE I decide to have babies…

As if something’s wrong with that?

  • Kesha

His hatred is shinning through. I see his true colors and all i can do is SMH cause he seems so pathetic. I actually feel sorry for ole JJ. He knows he can’t hold a candle to Barack Obama. Good, its time for a change

  • Child Please

This should have been a Ho Sit Down article.

Initially, Jesse Jackson may have been for the people, but I think he realized that he could get more out of his actions than “the people”. He is a HO in the true sense of the word.

MLK is probably rolling in his grave looking at this idiot that thinks he speaks for black America.

Honestly, Jesse’s comments probably are helping Obama. No one respects Jesse Jackson anymore and most go against anything that he says.

  • Chaka

You NEVER hear of Jews, Italians, or Hispanics trashing each other like this. Jesse knows everything said in the studio can be picked up on those mikes. Especially FoxNews. Why Jesse? Why?

  • 2cute4u

Yeah, I think it’s kinda messed up how they taped and aired a private conversation. Despite that Jessie Jackson is a total dumbass for the comment, it is his right to say whatever he wants. Fox news should be ashamed of themselves. I don’t know whats worse, the fact that they taped it and ran it, or the fact that he even said it on such a public forum…

  • ShavonDenise

Like Malcolm X said, when a nigg@ get something nigg@$ try and take it away. Now when you ‘curry you black butt on the Fox News network you have to know like your mom says, be on your best behavior because they will used anything agaisnt you. The dude he was talking to didnt air the comments but Grand Wizard himself Bill O’Reilly had to air them. Jesse, you were there when MLK was shot, you have become a clown and a disgrace!! Say that sh*t ANYWHERE but there. Whether you thought the mic was off or not… I cant speak anymore. GO BARACK

    @Fed Up With Preachers-

I’ve read some of the things Roland Martin has done, I’m not sure if he’s going to be a preacher, but I do know his wife is a minister. I like Roland Martin, look him up, he’s a great man who I think will be successful with his ministry. He doesn’t seem to do the far reaching flip/flip like Jackson and Sharpton. He seems to carry himself well, and his wife is AWESOME! They’re not at all flashy, look at her website, I can’t remember her name.

And I wasn’t big on preachers until my aunt married one, and one of my girlfriends from high school became one. When you see true men/women of God, who live humble lives (on meager salaries, because they don’t get paid well), you’ll see true servants of the Lord. I grew up in a church (that’s now closed) because the Pastor who founded it was crooked, and his son took the church over and ran it into the ground. I grew up in a church with Jesse Jackson wannabes, and it hurts you see black ministers like that.

My white ex and I would say how all of these crooked ministers, of all races, are the same. He’s from Alabama and his family would talk about their pastor “Chicken Dinner” who wouldn’t speak at anything that didn’t provide him a generous love offering, wasn’t announced in the local paper, and provided him with a meal. It baffles me that people like Jackson and Haggee are giving minsiters a bad name.

I think Jessie comments were politically driven, and done on purpose. This was done to make it seem to white America that some Blacks do not agree with him icluding a prominant figure like Jessie Jackson. Just like I think Rev Wrights last press conference, was politically driven. Not mention this paints a picture to the American public that Barack Obama is being picked on and crucified. Certain points in this election were staged in my opinion.

@EarthSign, I used to believe that that whole Jeremiah Wright situation was a front, too, but I’v e heard Wright is genuinely hurt. I hope it’s Jesse doing like Farrakhan and intentionally helping Obama in the long run through some jedi media mind-trick fake-outs.

    I don’t know, though.

@Tiger, I believe it about Haiti. It’s sick, but what can people actually do? Haiti needs serious help, but Haiti’s not getting it because they’re dark and French. I look at Haiti like, some mathematician decided that Haiti needed to be the way it is in the same way some mathematician with an advanced econ degree decided that X percentage unemployment has to be maintained — nevermind that those are real people who are getting hurt by somebody’s hard math and statistics. The mathematician is never going to be affected, so why do they care? as long as it all works out in the math.

I truly believe, when those same people decide that their number crunching depends upon an uplifted Haiti, Haiti will be uplifted.

And god help the children being sold, and the parents without access (or desire) to use birth control.

@ Just Sayin wrote, “Jesse Jackson isn’t letting anything like a secret out-of-wedlock daughter and growing questions about his personal and organization funding get him down. On the contrary: He’s pressing forward with his Wall Street Project, in which some of America’s largest corporations have donated millions to his network of charities and organizations. Ostensibly, Jackson’s projects are designed to increase minority participation on Wall Street. But many corporations have learned that a hefty donation to Jackson’s causes is simply the best way to change the reverend’s political course and bring him around to their side.”

Those many corporations know damn well that that’s ALL it is, and that’s why they go along with it. Otherwise they wouldn’t need to pay Jesse and crew for ‘good’ publicity; they’d be changing their corporate cultures from within.

Those corporations are not victims. Jesse’s not right, but they’re not victims.

My eyes were first opened during the NASCAR situation. My jaw dropped. I couldn’t believe it. But that’s the way it is. It’s a (bad) outgrowth of the (bad) white patronage – black supplicant system of pre-Civil Rights days. Jesse and crew just turned it around to their benefit. Maybe it might have seemed like a flipped coin victory. I don’t know.

Unfortunately, the wealth was not spread; and justice gave way to a happily agreed upon extortion by so-called black leaders and the non-blacks willing to pay up for the sake of cosmetics as long as it didn’t mean too much real change. Other than that, thank you for the article regarding the depth of the shenanigans. All are guilty on this one.

  • WhatsYoursIsMine

    @Earth Sign-

I agree with you 100% about this being staged. Jesse knows he has to get on the “bandwagon” (because that’s how he sees it) to keep his black support. But he’s trying to act out for attention and get interviews and whatnot. When he went on TV with his apology, he was paid to do that.

As for Jeremiah Wright, he came and preached at our church in Dallas, and I was impressed. I believe he went out and did what he did, at the Press Club luncheon, on purpose. He knew that if he did one thing, people would see him differently, and lay off Barack. He was a great distraction, and I don’t blame him at all.

But Jesse needs to sit down and do some Sodoku or something, he’s getting in the way of progress!!!!!

If you two knuckleheads were anything except trolls, you’d know that neither Republicans NOR supremacists want McCain.

Supremacists are not happy about McCain’s war stance. A lot of them wanted Ron Paul. They’re not going to vote McCain just because his skin is white. (Shocker!)

Likewise, Republicans of all colors are not happy with McCain’s apparent anti-conservative flip-flops and left-leaning on issues such as illegal aliens and campaign finance reform. His saving grace with many of them is his Israel/Iran/Iraq war stances, but who knows what will happen when the wind blows. For the rest, they don’t know whether having an (R) after McCain’s name is going to be enough to pull the lever.. and that’s why folks are relying on Muslim lies and ‘Obama will give reparations to blacks!’ b.s. to try to drum up support. They think he’s a Republican in Name Only.

    @Just Sayin:

I think you are confused son. Aint nothing wrong with making money. I am not mad at Jesse for getting what he’s got. What I don’t like him for is how he use black people to get what he’s got and don’t even try to uplift black people. He keeps the mess going because we are the stupid ones that don’t try too get things for ourselves.

That is why so many people come in this country and pass us up because we won’t even try and see what we can do as an individual. It is time to let go of that woas me mentality and get out their and get ours. We can also network together. We spend ove 5 billion dollars a year in this country what is wrong with spending that with each other.

The problem is when a black person gets a store or a beauty salon or something like that we usually treat each other so nasty that I just say forget it and don’t go back to the business.

It is time for us to start pointing the finger at us for our failures and get our of this victim mode. And there is where people like Jessie Jackson, Bob Johnson, Al Sharpton, Michael Jordan, and Magic Johnson wants us too stay. The want us not to educate ourselves and keep spendign our money at their establishments. Stop going to these chinese, arab, and mexican stores in our communities. Force them out let them go sell liquor in their communities. It is time for us to own the businesses and things in our communities.

It is time for us to realize the world is global we don’t need them nor white people for anything anymore. We can do this on a global market now. Look at these blogs. Don’t just use these things for Gossip and finding out where Beyonce and Jay Z are going with their millions. Use it too promote your business. That is what I will be doing when I get Elite Promotions off the ground.

It is time to stop sleeping. We are and have always been strong intelligent people. Everyone knew that but us. Now we know let’s move forward and not allow anyone too keep us back anymore.

You will see me advertising on this blog as business continue to grow. I expect too see more of us doing this.

Now I know that Jesse has had slips of the tongue, but I still can’t believe he let those vulgar words fall from his lips. I’m truly disgusted. And, to be honest, I was really surprised by how strongly the younger Jesse came out against his father. That statement was a personal rebuke. Wow.

  • vjhe

All of you folks are drinking the Obama Kool-Aid and when the chickens come home to roost, I am going to be the first to say I told you so.

Jesse was wrong, flat out (even though all of us have said things “off the record” that would be seen as unflattering). Jesse should have known better than to “let his guard down” even for a second, ESPECIALLY when dealing with Faux News. BUT, anyone who doesn’t think Obama’s “Message to Black men” wasn’t political, is a FOOL! Though I agree with what he was saying, it was clear he was pandering to White Working Class Americans who like nothing more than to hear such things coming from a “Black Leader”. Obama was trying to garner votes from a group of people whom he needs votes…but it was at the expense of Black people (a fear Tavis Smiley and myself have had for months). In other words, Obama is willing to do anything to get elected….ONE OF THE VERY THINGS HILLARY CLINTON WAS DISPARAGED FOR.

Again, I agreed with what Obama was saying but I don’t think Jackson was totally off base. For me personally, Obama’s “chastisment” of Black men has come across in a negative way. Maybe because I feel there are political motivations behind it. When Obama made the speech to Black men on last month and the next day, it was the lead story all over the white media, I felt a little uneasy. Then I realized days BEFORE his “message”, polls indicated that it would be difficult for him to win White Working class America who overwhelmingly supported Clinton, and a bell went off for me. Even avid Obama supporter, the beloved loquacious Michael Eric Dyson noticed it and actually wrote piece about it.

I felt months ago, Obama was taking advantage of the Black vote. Tavis Smiley put him on the hotseat to make sure he kept his commitment to the Black Community and he was crucified for it. Black politicians were threatened to be voted out of office if they didn’t support Obama. Not Only Tavis Smiley but my Black Congress woman, as well as others, LIVES were threatened if they didn’t support Obama. I, a vocal supporter of Black issues over the years, for the first time in my life was labeled a “sell-out” if I didn’t support Obama. In my eyes, these are warning signs and further my unease of Obama being elected right now.

I hate Jesse said what he said but I see his point.

Lastly, curse Faux News for this dirty move. This happned on this past Sunday morning during a commercial, and they waited until Wednesday to announce a big breaking news story. They didn’t immediately say what it was but WAITED until Prime Time, and gave the story to one of their two BULLDOGS…Bill O’Reilly. This was calculated and vile. Everyone knows Fox News does not support Barrack Obama and the only reason they planned this was out of HATE for Jesse Jackson. Their hate for Jackson, outweighed the fact this whole thing will more than likely help Obama.

Black folks, there is nothing more some would want than to have Blacks turn on their “leaders”. That does not mean folks like Jackson, Sharpton, Bond, Evers, etc., are beyond criticism. But to vilify them and disrespect them is the last thing we need.

  • Somer

I am sure this has been menion but I just want to reiterate that Jackson, the old civil right guards & the rest of the poverty pimps of America are really upset that history is being made in front of their eyes and THEY ARE NOT APART OF IT. Unlike Clinton run in the 90′s, Jackson is not an advisor to Obama. None of the old guard have absolutely no say in this history making moment. When it’s all said and done, no one can interview them as being part of the process of Obama’s success.

THE OLD GUARD IS JEALOUS CAUSE THEY CANNOT TAKE CREDIT FOR OBAMA’S SUCCESS!!!!!

  • Anon E. Mus

STOP being pawns on a chess board. Democrats (Yes, including Obama !) and Republicans do not serve you. They serve corporations and special interests (lobbyists). Wasn’t a democratic majority voted in during 2006 ? What has changed ???? Iraq ?? Why did FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) which is unconstitutional just pass ???? You ever notice how leaders that are “really” for social change and speak on behalf of the people are conveniently taken out ???

  • WhatsYoursIsMine

    @VJHE-

I agree with you on Faux News and the timing of Obama’s speech. I was able to research him, and it’s a speech (similar, really) that he’s made before. But he was in the right venue for it, but I just don’t like people airing dirty laundry like that. It should have truly been geared to fathers of all races, because I have TOO MANY fatherless friends of White and Hispanic descent that face the same struggles as Black families.

I do believe Obama will make a great president. I know he can’t change the world in 8 years, but who can? I think he’ll set the ball rolling for us to have some political shake-up in this country.

I believe black leaders (and I don’t consider Tavis Smiley to be one, he’s very two-faced and will stomp on anyone to get to where he wants to be, that’s how he ended up NPR and CNN) should step back and be glad that they work they’ve done over the decades have paved the way for men like Barack Obama. I think I have a sugar-coated view of the world, Jesse marched with Dr. King so Barack could run for president, so the people at Harvard and Columbia would let equally talented black students have a chance at an ivy league education. I wonder if they ever sit back, look at Barack, and feel pride?

At the end of the day, Obama’s a politician, but man, he’s done a hell of a job getting people motivated and to the polls for these primaries and caucuses. I’ve seen people from all over the political spectrum become fascinated with him, that doesn’t mean everyone will vote for him, but he has opened people’s eyes to how desperate Americans are for change.

Had Jesse Jackson not had a (pseudo) successful run at trying to become the Democratic Nominee, Barack wouldn’t be where he is today. Sure, Barack’s history in the community wasn’t as prominent as Jesse Jackson’s, but they’re similar in their beginnings. I wish Jesse Jackson would have, from the beginning, congratulated Obama when he was running against the other Democratic hopefuls.

I just want him to sit down and stop picking at the brother. I’ve always volunteered with elections wherever I’ve lived, and I’m disheartened by the level of animosity some of our black leaders in Dallas have towards the newcomers to the political arena. I have no problem with blacks that don’t Barack, but they’d tear down the younger voters who were Hillary supporters. The black leaders here who did support Hillary wouldn’t even welcome their support, they’re too busy trying to be in the camera for Hillary because they thought she would win. Same thing with some of the older politicians who support Barack. They just want camera time, more money for their individual election funds, they don’t want to help the cause.

I think this has shown the divide between the “Civil Rights Generation” and the younger people. It’s like yes, I thank you for working to provide me these opportunities, but please don’t stifle me when I try to take them.

  • me

Jesse Jackson’s comment not only shows he is a coward, but it also exhibits his lack of moral boundaries toward respecting his own race.

However, he is not the first to be caught on camera making derogatory comments and surely will not be the last. Any and all persons who attempt to place themselves in the media in regards to their political and religous beliefs are all actors and actresses.

Jesse doesn’t care about black people or our issues; he only wants to use our plight and our platform for his personal enrichment and self-aggrandizement.

    HELLO NIKKI…

The old civil right guards & the rest of the poverty pimps of America are really upset that history is being made in front of their eyes and THEY ARE NOT APART OF IT. Unlike Clinton run in the 90’s, Jackson is not an advisor to Obama. None of the old guard have absolutely no say in this history making moment. When it’s all said and done, no one can interview them as being part of the process of Obama’s success.

  • http://www.myspace.com rare spidermenz

What he ment to say was he wants to lick obamas dick off.

  • Sydney

Excerpt from Roland Martin’s blog today:

There have been two constants in this presidential campaign: Sen. Barack Obama will openly discuss his faith and present some of today’s most troublesome issues through a moral prism. And the Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. will say something outlandish and stupid that he will have to apologize for.

First, he told a reporter in South Carolina last year that Obama was “acting white” in his response to the issues in Jena, Louisiana. Then the good Rev wrote an op-ed piece proclaiming that then-Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards was the only one speaking to issues of importance to African Americans.

Now, in his most vile and pathetic comments yet, Jackson was overhead telling a fellow panelist prior to an interview on Fox that he was going to cut Obama’s “nuts off” for his speeches on morality and fatherhood in the black community.

Rewind that for a moment. An African American reverend – someone who is called by God to speak to moral issues of the day – takes issue with an African American presidential candidate speaking about faith-based issues and the need for black men to take care of their children, for parents to care about their child’s health, and to turn the television off and to start reading more and more books?

If there was any further evidence needed to show that Rev. Jackson has lost his moral compass and is far out of touch with the state of black America today, this is it. And it is clear that Jackson has forgotten that as a minister, his first goal is to always address the moral issues before anything else.

  • Sydney

    More from Roland Martin:

Folks, I have written on numerous occasions what it was like as a teen to see Rev. Jackson stand before the Democratic national convention in 1984 and 1988 and give two of the finest speeches in history (both are on my iPod). He has left a significant legacy on the history on this nation by his work on behalf of civil rights.

But all of the good that he has accomplished it withering away due to his ego run amok, and unwillingness to step aside and allow the next generation of leaders to take their rightful place. He has long claimed the mantle of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and has run with that baton as fast and as hard as he can. Yet what he continues to do is tarnish his legacy, and leave a bad aftertaste in the mouths of folks today that were babes when “Run, Jesse, Run” was a rallying cry across the nation.

What is especially galling is that Jackson would make such an idiotic comment about a man who is desperately trying to advance the issues near and dear to African Americans – and all Americans – while also speaking truth to the major problems affecting the black community.

Jackson seems to want Obama to shut up on the issue of black men fathering children out of wedlock and not taking care of their responsibility. Instead, he wants him to keep his sights on jobs, economic development and education.

And that nonsense about talking down to black people? That’s the kind of BS I’ve always heard, and it’s Jackson’s way of saying Obama thinks he is better than other black folks. That’s, right. It’s just another way of calling him uppity.

  • De

Let’s boycott that Uncle Tom, non condom using nasty Jesse Jackson. Just hating because he has never had a real job and will no longer be the black man in the spotlight. This was so contrived. He was speaking into the camera. Why do you want his balls? To suck on you old faggot.

    Funny Joiner..

You dont’ agree with what he stands for, yet you will vote for him..

Im going to ask why, but wow, it’s quite obvious it has to do with the color of his skin..

Sad, cause that’s how most of the black community thinks.. They have NO CLUE what his agenda is, or what he stands for, but they will vote for him because of his skin color…

It’s amazing how Jesse has always been a Hater. 1st issue he’s a man of god (suppose to be) but i’ve always thought he was a fake-ass brother using religion to make paper. This proves it. It’s ok for him to cheat on his wives, ok to befriend corporate white america and take pay-offs, cuz that’s his spirit that will reap what he has sown.

Barrack–is a good man. and jesse’s counterfeit ass is jealous and a hater. I say we disown Jesse. Enough is Enough, I have never respected the “fake-ass” christian. Barrack is the Man, who is support and admire. and who will get my vote.

JACKSON, WHO HELPED PIONEERED THE WAY, THUS CREATING A PATH, THAT I, A FELLOW BLACK MAN COULD ONE DAY BE A VIABLE CANDIDATE FOR THE U.S. PRESIDENCY – WITH THAT, I GRACEFULLY ACCEPT MR. @WhatsYoursIsMine

Hi, how are you? Thanks for the insightful thoughts you expressed earlier.

    @Just Sayin

LOL, I just want to emphasize that those two passages posted earlier are from a blog entry written today by Roland Martin, CNN political contributor, so I can’t take credit for that, but I do agree wholeheartedly with Brother Martin. :)

    @vjhe

I know you addressed your comments to WhatsYoursIsMine, but I wanted to say that, growing up, I admired Rev. Jackson as a civil rights advocate, and later as a presidential candidate, and that’s why I find his extremely poor choice of words and presentation so saddening — much like Andrew Young’s earlier attack on Obama as someone who was as “black” as Bill Clinton, and Bill had dated more “black women.”

We may have cringed when Cosby and Poussaint discuss our community ills on Meet the Press, or when Obama took absentee fathers to task, but the truth is, our dirty laundry is already is in the public eye. You can’t hide that a high number of households lack fathers, the disproportionate number of African-American inmates, and the number of high school dropouts. This is a daily reality that has worsened over the decades. I rather have these issues aired, so we can begin to walk the walk and put words into action. I see Obama’s candidacy and the rise of other younger black politicians, such as Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick, Newark Mayor Cory Booker, and D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty, as symbolic of a new era of leadership. No one can diminish the accomplishments of those who came before them, but it’s now time to gracefully pass the baton and lay the ugliness to the side.

*Cosby and Poussaint discussed* typo, sorry

Oh, and this is another excerpt from Roland Martin’s blog today that I liked (last post on this, but when Roland is on fire, it’s something to behold):

“Part of the problem could be that figures like Jackson have lost a lot of their moral standing, often by their own doing. Rev. Jackson can’t necessarily give the same speech Obama gave because he committed adultery and had a child out of wedlock several years ago. He’s taking care of the young girl, but another child being raised by a single mother – even if it carries the last name Jackson – is part of the problem in black America (Yea, I said it, and someone has to stop dancing around the elephant in the room).

The issue of the black family, and the destruction of it, is the main problem we face (something that will be dealt with in CNN’s Black in America series premiering July 23 and July 24). We can talk ad nauseam about education and wealth creation, but when you have 7 out 10 children born out of wedlock; those single women having to raise those children all alone; and the rampant black-on-black crime, fueled by many of these same children, that proves we have issues that must be confronted, from the pulpit to the pew.

Instead of trying to tear Obama down or anyone else who is sick and tired of the moral decay in parts of black America, Jackson should be joining the chorus of those who say, “Enough is enough.”

  • vjhe

Hi Sydney, I never said our issues should be hidden, if no other reason than they CAN’T be hidden. The world knows about what is going on in the Black American Community. For me, it was what I personally viewed as a “natural discomfort” hearing a prominent Black man take Black men to task for an hour on a platform where the demographics do not reflect those that need to hear the message. That is not saying our issues should not be addressed. It’s sort of like discussing family issues at a neighbors house. There would be a natural uneasiness about that IMO, as opposed to doing it at your own house.

I actually had other things typed out on the subject but I decided to stop here.

I learned long ago that at the end of the day, people despite their status, race, class, etc., are bascially the same. That is why I was not shocked by Jackson’s words. I was more disappointed he wasn’t responsible enough to realize he was dealing with Faux News and should always be on guard. What he said was “off the record” and was not meant to be played on national tv. I have personally said things in the privacy of my home and amongst my friends that a lot of people would view as unflattering. God knows I have had thoughts that I would not like to have made public. I have been cut off while driving and said some awful things in my head and out loud. And despite what anyone here says, we have all done it. In my eyes, this was another case of someone saying something unflattering to a friend when he thought the mic was off.

That is also a reason why when certain things came out about Martin Luther King some years ago and certain people got upset it was revealed, I was fine with it because I am familiar with humanity. No one is perfect. I wonder if Obama has said anything about the Clintons “off the record” that he wouldn’t want to be broadcast nationally? People are Real.

To the person who calls himself/herself ‘me’, re-read what I posted and take a look at the punctuation marks and emoticon I used. Besides, if you couldn’t understand what I was saying, and it is clear you didn’t, maybe YOU are too uneducated to speak to any further.

I would also advise you to proofread your statements before you post them. That last sentence is a hoot. Can you tell me what’s wrong with it? Yeah, I’m the uneducated one.

  • DarkCable

Jesse Jackson just moved into Coon of the Day status. What an asshole. Instead of supporting a brotha, he turns coat and falls into the “crabs in a pot” trick. He and every other black politician need to be doing everything in their power to support Barak, not only because he’s black but because he is this Nations only hope at mending the twisted web that Bush Jr has created with his so-called administration.

  • Honut Sinti

Picture it. July…2008. Has-been Jesse, whispering crass, highly offensive remark about african-american presidential nominee, Barack Obama.

Who needs Imus, Limbaugh or Bush, when there is Jesse to f**k us over. Even Jesse’s own son, Jesse, Jr. commented that his father’s remarks were hurtful and highly offensive.

Also, I don’t think this event was staged with Jesse throwing himself on a sword so that Barack would have an excuse to distance himself from the old guard in order to maintain his broad voter appeal.

Remember the ‘hymie” remark from Jesse years ago. He is a loose cannon now that his glory days are over. He is so full of jealousy mixed in with bits of senility.

  • Dee

I spent quite a while typing up a post that just disappeared into “out there ness”!

Okay, since it’s gone midnight over here in London, and I should be tucked up ready for some sweet shut eye I’ll try to keep this simple.

Thank you to vjhe for your overall comments. Thank you for recognising that to err is human, and for me there is probably some jealousy on the part of Jesse towards Barack, and if I’m honest it isn’t easy to see why. Jesse has for all his failings, mistakes and errors, played his part when he was younger in doing what he deemed necessary to move black people onwards and upwards. Now, he sees someone else heading towards the finish line with his eye on the prize, and a part of him must wish he could swap places so that after all the hard, painful grafting he could savour some of the sweetness of what Barack is experiencing. Jealousy might not be right, but it is certainly human!

Isn’t Sanita, Jesse’s daughter, Malia Obama’s Godmother? The two men know one another, and here’s hoping that they can meet, have a frank, honest and open discussion and move forward from there in common purpose. The media thrives on antagonism, strife and warring and sometimes it’s good to step back, breathe slowly and remember this. Positivity apparently doesn’t sell!

Which leads me nicely to the hot topic of black daddies. With all the emphasis on the absent ones like Barack’s why isn’t there any room to talk about the loving, proud, committed black daddies like Michelle Obama’s own, Mr. Frasier Robinson, sadly passed on for some years now?

I want to hear Michelle talk about her daddy. It would provide a shining, positive counterpart to Barack’s more negative experience, and show the wider world that black people don’t just have the one black experience or opinion on any and everything underneath the sun.

It’s always intrigued me that Michelle turned Barack down, initially. Even tried to set him up with a couple of her friends. The young hot shot turned down by a young woman who would have already known what a great black man was, because of her wonderful daddy.

Let’s commit to noting, commenting on, uplifting and applauding the many wonderful black fathers out here. Can we do that? Yes, we can!!

  • OhLaLa

I think Jessie comments were politically driven, and done on purpose. This was done to make it seem to white America that some Blacks do not agree with him icluding a prominant figure like Jessie Jackson. Just like I think Rev Wrights last press conference, was politically driven. Not mention this paints a picture to the American public that Barack Obama is being picked on and crucified. Certain points in this election were staged in my opinion.

If you recall in Obamas’ speech on race earlier this year, he mentioned that many people have made a good living off of the racial division in this country. He was not only speaking about Rush Limbaugh; Bill O’Reilly, Dom Imus et al, he was referring their black counterparts Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and the host of them that feed off their own for financial gain.

Regardless of whether Obama wins or not. People don’t want this old game anymore-never did, but it was the only game in town. These old men don’t have the insight and intellect that Obama has and their scared.
