According to Will Smith, he and Jada have somewhat of an open relationship:
The actor – who tied the knot with Jada Pinkett Smith 11 years ago – is determined to be honest about how he feels. ‘Our perspective is, you don’t avoid what’s natural and you’re going to be attracted to people,’ Will explains. ‘So sometimes we have the discussion: “Wow, this or that girl is freaking gorgeous”. I’m not going to say anything to my buddies that’s any different than what I say to my wife.’
And Will, 39, reckons he’ll tell Jada – and she’ll tell him – if they ever feel the need to have sex with others. Each will say: ‘I’m not going to do it if you don’t approve of it,’ he says. But Will’s not sure what he’d do if one day Jada, 38, confides that she does want to take a lover. ‘I don’t know how I’d feel,’ he confesses. ‘But I know I would react better than if I found out about it afterwards.’
It’s nice to see that Will no longer feels the need to be secretive about his sexual desires. He must feel quite liberated….And while we’re on the topic, The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) are up in arms behind some of the lines in Will’s new film:
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is not happy with Will Smith’s latest movie, Hancock. They’re up in arms about three different times during the flick in which Smith’s character uses the term “homo.”
GLAAD reps say it’s a “cheap, unfunny shot at gay people.” They also say “Hancock’s use of the slur sends a problematic message that it’s okay to discriminate using such hateful words.”
Damn. The last thing Smith needs is the Hollyweird gay mafia on his case. Let us not forget Isaiah Washington.

I had heard this a few years back so its no surprise. Shyt, I feel like its their marriage, who am I to judge. To each his own. I don’t think I could ever be in an open relationship…who am i kidding, I’m in an open realtionship involuntarily right now. Men cheat anyway, so it probably would be better to know up front instead of finding out later that it was kept from you.

What part of this says they openly cheat on each other? They clearly have open communication lines but none of what he said indicates that they have had sex with other people.
This is nothing knew. People been saying they were swingers and that Jada allows Will to sleep with women from his movies that he is attracted to. That’s probably why she didn’t mind Charlize all up on him cause I’m sure people in Hollywood know the real deal with them. Oh well it’s their partnership cause in my book I wouldn’t label that a marriage and that’s just my opinion.
I don’t see where Will makes any reference to being gay. It’s obvious they swing but I am not sure how they handle being emotionally committed in that type of relationship.
Swingers puzzle me and I am not so liberal with my body. I really need to be mentally connected to the person I am havin sex with and that person is usually my man. I agree, but I think its different for women (some) than men. Women (again some) need to feel an emotional connection to a man in order to sleep with him. Men (most and I have many male friends that confirm this) can basically just sleep with any attractive woman if the opportunity presents itself, even if he is in a committed relationship. From what i’ve heard, sometimes it has absolutely nothing to do with their significant others. She can be the baddest chick on the planet and still get cheated on. It’s not always because of a lack of something. Sometimes its just an urge…Guys, if i’m wrong on this one, please enlighten. Now of course, I don’t think that makes it ok, it doesn’t even excuse it because to me its about maturity and realizing that of course you will find other people that you’re attracted to. Its about being mature enough to not submit to those desires and maybe Will and Jada just haven’t yet reached that level of maturity…just my opinion

I agree 100%! To me having an intense emotional connection with the person your intimate with, makes the sexual experience so much more gratifying. Thats why I don’t see how each of them could have sex outside of the emotional bond they created with eachother…it puzzles me.

Bossip reading is fundamental. No where in that statement did Will express any gay leanings, interest in swinging or infidelity. If by “open marriage” he knows it’s o.k. to openly acknowledge that another woman besides Jada is attractive, then I guess I have an “open” marriage too. One SHOULD be able to say the same things you say to your boyz or girlz to your spouse. As for telling the other if you are interested in having sex with someone else, I’d say that’s a pretty mature view to take. It gives you a chance to work on what’s fueling that desire BEFORE cheating takes place. A whole lot better than finding out after the fact.

I don’t see anywhere where it says that they have sex with other people. The only thing he said is that they have no problem telling each other when they see another of the opposite sex attractive. I think that’s great! Alot of times when people are in relationships are afraid to give the next male/female props because their s/o will get jealous, which is stupid. I have to agree that men can be carnal but I don’t think they can just walk away without feeling any guilt. My ex told me he cheated on me a couple of times in the beginning of our relationship and it was hard because he felt guilty and like he should have told me. He said he read websites that informed him it is better to conceal the matter than to disclose it. In fact our minister also told him to hide it so, as much as I understand falling to temptation I can also see how the desire to have other sexual conquests can ruin a loving relationship.
There is a certain something that changes after a man that’s in love with you cheats on you during the relationship. I know because I’ve experienced it, he is more concerned about himself than the two of you and his spirit just isn’t the same.
Hence I dumped my ex because the quality of what was is something I want more of and I won’t settle for less. However I respect a man for being up front and honest like Will than being a player when my back is turned. At least I can take it or leave it and the power to make an intelligent decision is priceless.
How does discussing with your mate that you find someone else attractive, equate with being swingers?
All they’re saying is that they have open communication in their relationship (you know, as it should be) and if one or the other is thinking about someone else, in a sexual way their relationship is strong enough where they can discuss it, rather than like weak folk, who lie and cheat on you behind your back. Personally, I think it cool when your spouse or significant other can tell you that they think someone else is attractive without you spazzzzzzing out and getting all insecure like so many women/men do.

True…BUT most women (well I should say myself at least) will not sleep with a man that she doesn’t see a future with. Its either an emotional attachment or the chance for one to develop, at least. When we sleep with a man (most of the time) we already know if he’s someone that we can see ourselves being in a relationship with. I just don’t think its like that for a man. I think men (most) can sleep with a woman knowing that she isn’t girlfriend material. But they do it anyway, because she’s attractive.
When you’re making sex, you make yourself and swingers more money, so that is win-win. Hence, your risk/reward ratio CAN NOT be in sex. This is how we judge the sexual experience.

I completely agree. Its unrealistic to think that your spouse will not be attracted to anyone besides you. Of course they will! I respect a man that can be honest and just say, i think she’s attractive and not have the urge to cheat, especially if she’s putting it out there for the taking. I think a real man is a man who doesn’t submit to those desires. I mean, damn, what’s the goal, to sleep with every attractive woman you come in contact with. I think plenty men are attractive, but would i cheat on my husband with them?…HELL NO. I, myself, have also been cheated on, so i feel your pain. However, my ex, did not come clean. It wasn’t entirely the cheating that hurt the most, it was the lying that really did it for me. I think Will and Jada’s method is cool. As far as GLAAD is concerned, they should be mad at the person who WROTE the film and not the actor who starred in it. That’s just common sense.
I don’t get the whole “SWINGERS” thing. Why get married then? I hope they realize the slippery slope that’ll ensue while engaging in indescriminate sex with multiple partners and how in the long run it’ll compromise the intimacy of the marriage. Firstly, there are two different objectives. Women want to SECURE a “stable relationship” that they can benefit from (i.e. a “good man” with money/career/status).
Men want to SECURE p_ussy. Yes, we know exactly how much you are getting proposistioned. It’s probably 1/10th of the amount we are thinking of proposistioning you. After all we are the ones asking, so we know.
Think of it this way if 10 men and 10 women were all placed on an island do you think everyone would pair up 1-to-1?

Because rather they want to admit it or not, they are just as subceptible to restlessness as us guys. The latest studies and reports shows that women engage infidelity as much as men. I currently work in a professional office of over 200 people, and i can tell you, there are more women who stray outside of their marriage and relationships than the men. I know one chick whose been married for over 7 years and has had two abortions behind her husbands back, due to her weakness for male strippers and gangsta rappers she meets at the concerts. Marriage today, is minefield of lies, deceptions and miscommunications. Me, personally, have come to the conclusion that marriage should be avoided at all costs.

Well, I had a professional job that dealt with the public and women was THROWING they self at me ALL DAY. I swear this. I’ve seen women steppin out too. I can think of 3 married chicks off the top of my head. One woman flat out said she wanted to f*ck cause her husband just got back from the war and he didn’t want to f*ck no more.

Yeah i feel you on that one. The chick i mentioned on the outside, you’d swear was the girl the next door type. Her husband is a decent regular guy, who works, is responsible, respectful and a good father to their daughter. I use to have lunch with her all the time, but lost total respect for her and ended our friendship. I’m a firm believer that the people you hang out with is a reflection on who you are. Her poor husband doesn’t have a clue and i just counldn’t look the ***** in eye during our company picnics or Christmas parties.

BUT ALL of these women only cheated after they discovered that their husband cheated first, or something else was discovered that in their mindset completely changed their relationship. I’m just saying, i think most women need a reason. And instead of divorcing, they just reciprocate. Which i think is completely immature. Like i said before, this person and i was lunch buddies and was at one time very close friends. She confided in me and another colleague. We knew about her other indiscretions from a few years ago and convinced her to start respecting her marriage, if not for her husband, then her daughter.
but her response was that she was going to take this and her other indiscretions to her grave. I’m sorry, no one deserves that sort of disrespect..And trust me, her husband is a nice guy and moral guy. To this day i feel a little ashamed for not alerting him to his wifes’ behavior, but at the end of the day, i feel it’s just not my place…So i decided to take the path of least resistance and end the friendship, due to my total lack of respect for this person. I’m no goodie toshoe, but i know right from wrong when it comes to playing with people’s trust and emotions.

I dont believe in open relationships either. Me and my husband have a relationship where if we driving down the street and i see a chick that i think is his type i’ll be like baby there you go and he would say ya or nah to and then vice versa but its only a game and as we both explained to a couple of our friends who were appaulled, but if your secure in your relationship you know its all good. To us its a game that we play. No harm, we love each other and are the best of friends.

I agree the kind of man I admire is a man that has self-discipline, self-respect and integrity when he gives his word. However, should he ever want to compromise his commitment to his relationship it is his responsibility to update his spouse or partner even if she gets hurt in the process, it is only fair. The trouble is too many men want their cake and to eat it too. They don’t want to say anything to their lady because they’re afraid she’ll move on, so selfish. I can’t understand why some men don’t care about who they have sex with yet they want “their lady” to stay committed to them, these guys don’t deserve that kind of love.
And I also agree that open honest & communication is the key to any partnership and being attracted to other people is normal but acting on those attractions is not cool if you’re suppose to be in a committed relationship.
Another thing… My ex was getting HIV tested all while still sleeping with me??? Seriously, I had no idea he was putting me at risk and lucky for us he & I are both HIV negative but God only knows how furious I was when he told me the entire story.

I don’t think that it is necessary to make statements to your mate that you find another attractive. It is riciulous. These kind of statements bring on insecurities. The woman might start thinking that they need to change their hair, get bigger bust, their behind might not be big enough and so forth. When you are married, you may still find others attractive but you can’t tell your wife these kind of statements it is not the right thing to do.
with all the people breaking up and having dysfunctional relationships, here are two people who seem to get it right. who have a loving family, who keep their kids and families around and involved in their lives despite their celebrity and who seem to be living a charmed and beautiful life. i’m sure it’s not as perfect as it looks, but who has the perfect relationship? Sometimes, it is not about what people say. Sometimes, it is about what people don’t say. And judging from the syntax, and the color of his comments. My bet is that the doors are wide open, on this marriage. However, like some of you have graciously posted. (To each his or her own.)
In my humble opinion, married couples that let others into their bedrooms, are people that are not genuinely satisfied with their significant other. When you are in an open relationship, you are actively playing with fire, and gasoline. (Been there, done that.) Sure, It starts out all fun and games, but often enough finishes up in jealousy, and heartbreak, and the destruction of the union. I mean who wants to hear that their man, or woman wants to screw someone else. You may be the most secure person on earth, and you still wouldn’t want to hear that. Whether it is said before the actual act, or subsequent to the act. No one wants to hear that. And not to sound racist, but swinging is something that is found traditionally amongst white middle cl*****, and wealthy upper cl***** Caucasian couples. I don’t know too many Brothers, or Sisters that would go for this type of life style, regardless of financial cl*****. Will, and Jada are apart of that Hollywood scene, where most of their friends are affluent bored rich white people. So anything is possible. They should be very vigilant, and aware of the temptations that they are being bombarded by.
