Remember Jurnee Smollett that played Eve in Eve’s Bayou back in 1997?? She is definitely all grown up now and if you don’t remember, she was one of the main actors in the movie with Denzel Washington, the Great Debaters. In case you have seen her in a minute…

Pop the Top to See What She’s Working With…

Jurnee hit up the red carpet at the EMI afterparty with her fiance Josiah Bell. Anita Baker also made an appearance at the event. This woman has a beautiful voice but time is taking a toll on Ms. Baker.

  • Gimmeabreak78

    She’s grown up beautifully.

  • Hannibal

    GOTTA LOVE THE LIGHT SKIN WOMEN, SHE FINE

  • Choco

    Pretty girl on the fence about the outfit tho!

  • pynk♥{TGIF!}

    didn’t she play Denise in “Full House” as well?

  • Aunt Viv

    Leave Anita Baker alone!

  • Nique

    @pynk

    She sure did

    She looks great!

  • daahlingnikki

    I love Anita Baker but damn…what happened?…She looks like she’s been on a 7 day bender…I miss Faith’s music…Hurry up and bring it back sista…Jurnee grew up nicely…She and her fiance look nice together…

  • Toni

    Her whole family is beautiful…I remember their show back in the gap.

  • Aunt Viv

    Anita Baker is old-what’s Faith’s excuse? She’s looking a bit rough…

  • QUEEN

    WONDERFUL ACTRESS

  • TheOriginalBlkBarbie

    She is pretty and she was even cuter as a kid. Her fiance looks…well…they look like they don’t match. I’ll leave it at that.

  • romance

    I strongly recommend ______ A f f l u e n t S i n g l e * C O M ______ to you where I just found my wealthy boyfriend! You know it is a great place to meet wealthy men and beautiful Women. What’s kind of relationship do you want?

    @BLACK ORPHEUS

    IT’S JUST MY PREFERENCE, SO I STATED IT, NOT TRYING TO START ANYTHING…
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Oh well, I’m not hatin’.

    I posted a comment, actually a response, one time that I prefer at least a little “k-i-n-k” in my woman’s p.u.b.i.c. hair — somebody took that the wrong way.

    You gotta be true to yourself —- can’t blame you for that.

    Also stated that black women aren’t limited to this country —- the blackest place outside of Africa is actually the state of Bahia on Northeast Brazil. Sometimes black people in this country act as thought there’s Africa and us, and nothing in between.

    And in any event, Debbie Allen or Bey or for that matter Halle would have had to drink from the “negro” water fountain in AL or MS sixty years ago, just a much as any dark skin sister — so what the hell diff does it make in the long run ??

  • B3 Fearless

    Jurnee looks beautiful. Her fiance looks a lil suspect but we’ll say it’s due to the moment when they snapped the pic.

    @Toni I remember that show. Yeah her family was huge but they were all cute. I loved her older bro with the big muscles. I wonder what he looks like now…

  • E$

    I follow her on Twitter, she was amazing in The Great debaters

  • http://customcalendars4u2.com Taisha from Chicago!

    Jurnee Smollett a very pretty young lady and she did such a great acting job in The Great Debaters that her future in Hollywood should be long and bright. customcalendars4u2.com

  • mzdiva

    awwwwwwwwwwww

    anita just needs a new hairstyle

  • peaches

    Anita looks fine. Like the old folks say: “KEEP LIVING” and time will take its toll on you. So beyonce and all the other young women who is “rocking it now”, eventually will have to deal with “gettin more mature (older)”. That also includes the plastic surgery hoes too!!!

  • I’m Just Me…Keeping It Real Since: 1983…..74 Days!!!

    Faith is looking rough and like she put some weight back on, but we have seen her look worse so I will take it.

    Jurnee looks cute but looks like she had some work done on her nose, which I don’t understand why.

    Anita…they say if you don’t have something nice to say….

  • QUE

    Man I’ve been waitin’ for this chick to grow up! I knew she would grow into a beautiful young woman!

  • The Rock (Layin The Smack Down On Your Candy @$$)

    Wow she looks good……she grew up nicely!!!

  • RudeJudeCuh

    Mixed light skin women are the best she bad.

  • RudeJudeCuh

    She real pretty in person she came to my school long time ago.

  • cutey

    she is cuter in the young picture

  • exotica

    i don’t understand the black race, when someone is attractive or pretty why can’t it end at that. why does complexion have to always come into it?. im glad im not black and i truly believe that blacks are the most racist race. i notice that colour doesn’t come into it when the female is lighter and ugly. why? just an observation…

  • GotYou

    Tina Turner is considered old (70 y.o.) Anita Baker is only 52 and she didn’t look old – she look haggard like she had a hard night. I love her voice but can someone say Crest White Strips?

  • Nina

    @Black Orpheus

    Hannibal has a preference for light skinned women, just like some black men do. Some want a certain amount of melanin in the skin and texture in hair. Its all a preference, just like how some black men prefer to not date Black American women, and always talk about whats wrong with sistahs living in America on this blog. In a way, its just deep-rooted problems that people need to fix. But like you say, gotta be true to yourself.

  • Somali Ninga

    @ exotica
    if you think the black race is racist, when why are you on a BLACK BLOG?!!?! btw its great to be black!!
    FAIL!!

  • mzdiva

    @ exotica

    don’t take everything on here personal

    sometimes people joke

  • DWadeaminute

    She’s aiight….she was cuter as a kid, but maybe she just needs a new hairdo. No hate….

  • nywoman23

    she was a decent looking kid. but as an adult she is hella ugly.ya’ll have no taste.and that dome is too big for that little body of hers.

    @toni – i remember their show back in the days. didnt last long.her siblings n her look just alike. i didnt think they were cute either. dont know how they look now though. there was one brother though that was alright looking

  • DWadeaminute

    @Exotica….if you take blogger comments that serious, maybe you should just not read online. I know what you mean, but so many jerk-offs say things just to get a reaction….they probably want to be like their non-black leader Rush Limbaugh. You’re entitled to think that blacks are the most racist race, but I doubt you’re right….but I would suggest you walk backwards into racist America’s history before making that comment. Blacks didn’t create segregation??

  • exotica

    @Somali Ninga, i think blacks are racist, doesn’t mean i don’t like blacks. i don’t understand why blacks put so much empahsis on complexion. your comment “us lightskin gals never disappoint” is an example of what i mean, why do blacks feel the need to do that. i just don’t understand it..to be honest i see all blacks as the same, it’s only when i visit certain blogs and read comments i see the internal racism

  • exotica

    @DWadeaminute, blacks didn’t invent racism but they are sure helping to continue it. then they want to complain when whites do it. still don’t get it…

  • brandimus

    she’s beautiful!

  • exotica

    @nywoman23, im glad u understand what im saying. i usually just read and don’t comment but i had to because it’s confusing to me.. and i was hoping someone could explain why blacks unite against other races, but seperate their own..

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    i use to say i wish we were like the jews. out of anyone from any other ethnicity those people stick together. we are like the only ones that dont.
  • exotica
    @ DWadeaminutecks every race has issues, that’s true but blacks seem to have a much bigger issue with each other than other races. i won’t get started with black on black violence…i guess that’s the white man’s fault
  • DWadeaminute
    @Exotica…scars are true, and run very deep. Sounds like you need emergency assistance on that note….you apparently have no clue. It’s not an excuse that every black person uses, but some do use those comments to get by. White’s don’t blame anyone or anything? Actually, you sound racist against blacks…IMO. You’re putting comments of ignorant blacks on blacks that are well-to-do or smart/wealthy. That’s a no-no….like I said, get to know some real blacks that are educated and experienced in the streets. Also learn not to group all of them into one box. Your angle sounds really stereotypical/judgmental. Maybe you need some help….where I’m from, it’s about your heart…not color!
  • exotica
    @ nywoman23, you seem very reasonable. it’s easy to dimiss my comment because im not black but you could actually see the point i was trying to make.
    @DWadeaminute, i have nothing against blacks, im simply pointing out what i have noticed
  • exotica
    @F@ckChocolate, i think you covered everything i don’t understand lol
  • lotusgirl
    I didn’t read very many (if any) comments about how cute they looked. Then again, if she had Robin Thicke on her arm, every broad in here (except me probably) would be creaming themselves to talk about how GORGEOUS they are together and they are just meant for eachother.
    R.I.P. black love/pride
    DAMN, pynk, I DIDN’T KNOW YOU WERE THAT MUCH OF A WHITE GIRL.LOL
  • TheOriginalBlkBarbie
    So this is the race/complexion debate thread of the day…
    Exiting stage left…
  • vee
    cute
  • DWadeaminute
    @Fucc…that’s a strange cosign darlin!! That’s like Rush Limbaugh telling you everthing you already know about your race….then you agree with him as if you never knew. No disrespect…just sayin. It’s probably best that you stand on your own comments….I know what Exotica is saying, but she needs to do her homework, as she appears to be negatively fixated on blacks. Or will both of you be in the same class this afternoon? LOL
  • exotica
    @DWadeaminute, why are you so defensive about what I am saying? Is it because it’s true, or because it’s coming from someone who isn’t black? im just putting it out there, i have nothing against blacks but i spend time with blacks and i notice certain things, i don’t ask them because i know they will be offended. blacks seem to have ready made excuses for everything. they fight against racism yet it’s ok if it’s coming from another black person. and if all fails…blame the white man.
    @FUCC IS WRONG WIT DESE BROADS?!?, thank you.
  • exotica
    @Somali Ninga, i only used your post as an example because u responded to me. in your post u said u were “proud to be black”. in your last post u also said “i love being lightskin”, that’s a slight contradiction. correct me if im wrong but isn’t light skin moving further away from black?. you have the typical black mentality that i don’t understand. are u proud to be black or not? or are you proud to be black but proud u don’t look black?
  • exotica
    again, i have nothing against black people but i think they have issues.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    you see now youre moving backwards. you had me agreeing with you at some point but now you are losing me. well is that to be said also about all the people of europeans that love to tan/ darken their skin? are they moving away from their so called i quote whiteness>? what she said is not a contradiction. she was born light and is happy with her looks. wtf lol whats not to understand.thats all it means. no different from someone being having long hair, brown eyes, or whatever feature they have , and saying they like that about themselves

    sometimes what people state is exactly that.youre reading into it and youre not suppose to because somalia didnt mean it like that.

  • nywoman23

    @somali- i honestly didnt know she had responded to you earlier. sometimes i scroll and skip post because im too lazy to read all the posts.i just saw her post and responded to it, not knowing she was responding directly to you.

  • FUCC IS WRONG WIT DESE BROADS?!?

    i got so off topic on this thread but jurnee looks great!

  • enlight

    why would we have forgotten Jurnee? She aint gone no where!! She stays busy in the biz….question is, who is Josiah Bell?

  • nywoman23

    you sure this is not exotica from for the love of ray j lol . hmmmmmm how you doing? ok i need to take a nap

  • exotica

    @nywoman23, if u read above u will see that u didn’t actually aim any comments at Somali Ninga, i think she responded to u because u agreed with my first comment. i think your getting confused so i’ll leave it lol

  • Dori

    Anita Baker, bless your voice and talent. Time takes its toll on every body but there is no forgetting a spirit that flies free. Yall just push play and never you mind about how each woman finds year after year.

  • FUCC IS WRONG WIT DESE BROADS?!?

    “again, i have nothing against black people but i think they have issues.”

    @exotica, I’m black and i AGREE with you on the self hatred of blks hating blacks.

    But i also believe it depends on your environment. If your raised and brought up with nothing but white people you will have more self hate issues.

    Also , i think it more prevalent in Latinos of African descent. Puerto Rico and Dominican Republics are the only places you can find N3gros a who swear on the Holy Bible they aren’t black even in the slightest bit despite how obvious it is. DR is 90% n3gro but swears they aint black even if they look as black as Wesley Snipes.

    Self Hatred is bad with African Americans. But if you take the ones in Latin America, your point is even more visible.

    But, I agree wit exotica to a degree.

  • ejdollaz

    @ FUCC IS WRONG WIT DESE BROADS?!?

    somali ninja, i an Aunt Jamima.

    Look at her avatar.. She is black and ALWAYS has some pure WHITE boys deemed in her eyes as the MOST attractive..lol We can already see her SELF HATE and denial.

    Not to sound racist, but she is obviously a SELF LOATHING N3GRO. She praises light skin, and seems to worship white people.

    Now she will deny it, but by her comments and avatar you can get a clue to what type of person she is.

  • brandimus

    @exotica… I don’t think Somali Ninja is any less proud of being black. I’m dark skinned and proud, and wouldnt’ have it any other way. I kno plenty of light skinned ppl who don’t want to change the way they look, they don’t want to be darker, but they don’t want to be lighter. Maybe they’re happy with how they are, and don’t wanna change it. I don’t wanna be any darker than i am, and i sure as hell don’t want to be any lighter either. I like being the color i am, and don’t want to change it at all

  • epotyme55

    Somali Ninja is ASHAMED OF BEING BLACK.. just look at her past comments and avatar.

    She would sell her soul to white people.

    In other words, by her avatar and this posts comments you can see she truly thinks you can be TOO DARK,, BUT NEVER TOO WHITE.

    she is th personification of a black who is ashamed.

  • TheOriginalBlkBarbie

    @ ejdollaz

    If your raised and brought up with nothing but white people you will have more self hate issues.
    ________________________________________________

    Returned to the thread and saw this…

    I don’t necessarily agree with this. I was brought up with basically all white people. Lived in an upper-middle class neighbourhood where I practically never saw black people. I also was the only black girl in my grade (except in grade 11 there was another mixed girl). I always had plenty of friends, plenty of guys interested in me, and honestly I never felt like the white people were ridiculing my “blackness”. I only discovered, that there was this weird superiority/inferiority thing among light/dark skin, “good”/”bad” hair (I do NOT prescribe to this description) black people. The unending fascination that black people had with certain of my physical traits was puzzling to me to say the least. It wasn’t simple admiration. It was like obsession. I was also confused with the whole light skin/brown skin/dark skin thing and I still am. Everyone trying to stuff you in a category, everyone having different “criteria” and I’m like, “What does this matter?” “How is this helping to improve the situation of our people?”

    To put it simply, I was a lot less confused and agitated when I was only exposed to white people. Even now, while this whole debate inspires me with curiosity…that’s where it ends. I really do not understand these divisions. At all. Beauty comes in all shades. Done.

    I still love my people. Regardless of the environment I grew up in, my parents always instilled this amazing love in me – both for who I am as a person AND for my people in general. <3

  • ejdollaz

    @ TheOriginalBlkBarbie

    Maybe your an exception, but in these ALL white communities where my cousin grew up white = right, to the point where ethnic people refuse to date each other, but if ur white they worship the ground you walk on.

    Trust me I’ve seen it. If your from a white area I’m SURE it was there. You obviously didn’t open your eyes much.(no offense) but to be honest most of the people who don’t see it are usually WHITEWASHED to the point of blindness. There is not a substantial enough amount of ethnic people for them to have any type of pride in who they are.

  • Ne Ne aka iB@S

    she gotta old face…and her fiance look kinda questionable

  • TheOriginalBlkBarbie

    @ ejdollaz

    Hmmm…you seem to have encountered some black people from white areas with no pride in who they are.

    Maybe I am an exception, and I will give credit to my parents. I will be honest, I have dated guys from practically every race/ethnicity (Black, White, Arabic, Mixed, etc.) My earlier boyfriends were white (because that’s who I was around) then I branched out. My current boyfriend is black (refuse to date black men…WTF??? Lol…) and we are getting engaged this year.

    Also, a lot of what black people think is “whitewashed” is just a misguided mentality. If your grammar is correct, you’re whitewashed. If you have a lot of white friends, you’re whitewashed. If you don’t like oxtail…hey guess what? You must be WHITEWASHED. I honestly can’t even keep up with all of the different ways a black girl can be “whitewashed”.

    I don’t think you need ethnic people around to have pride in who you are. A lot of that has to do with how you were raised. It also seems that PLENTY of black people who grew up around other black people do not have real pride in who they are. Hence these recurring divides within the race. I don’t understand it…and I think I am glad I don’t. I know the history behind it all, but I don’t see why people insist on STILL living under that umbrella.

  • ejdollaz

    Also, a lot of what black people think is “whitewashed” is just a misguided mentality. If your grammar is correct, you’re whitewashed. If you have a lot of white friends, you’re whitewashed. “TheOriginalBlkBarbie”

    I DON’T AGREE. HAVING WHITE FRIENDS OR SPEAKING GOOD GRAMMAR DOESN’T MAKE U WHITEWASHED. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT. ITS HOW YOU ACT. PLAIN AND SIMPLE..

    MOST BLACKS DONT SEE THESE THINGS AS BEING WHITEWASHED. IS OBAMA WHITEWASHED?? NO. ME AND MY FAMILY DON’T EAT ANY DAMN SOUL FOOD WHATSOEVER. I MEAN- “NEVER DID” TYPE SH^T.

    WHITEWASHED IS THEY WAY YOU ACT, AND MOST PEOPLE WHO ARE WHITEWASHED DON’T KNOW IT OR UNDERSTAND IT. THEY JUST DON’T SEEM TO “GET IT”.

    IF YOU CANT UNDERSTAND WHAT BEING WHITEWASHED IS TO THE BLACK COMMUNITY IS… REALLY… I CAN SEE YOU GREW UP IN AN ALL WHITE AREA, BECAUSE IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH GRAMMAR OR EATING “SOUL FOOD”.lol

    ITS ALMOST FUNNY HOW YOUR BLACK AND DON’T SEEM TO GET IT. THERE ARE SO MANY BLACK PEOPLE. FAMOUS BLACK PEOPLE, SCHOLARS, YOU CANT EVEN PHANTOM OR UNDERSTAND WHERE THEIR COMING FROM.

    wow, YOU REALLY CAN’T SEE IT?

  • TheOriginalBlkBarbie

    Oh yea…and, as I stated, we were the only black family residing in the immediate area. So no, I didn’t see blacks worshiping the ground that white people walked on. My family sure wasn’t. It really wasn’t a matter of me opening my eyes to see anything… :)

  • ejdollaz

    @ TheOriginalBlkBarbie

    YOU MAY NOT BE WHITE, BUT YOU SURE PICKED UP THEIR PERCEPTION. SH^T, MY GRANDMA IS “WHITE” AND I AIN’T EVEN CONFUSED ABOUT IT.

  • TheOriginalBlkBarbie

    I know that those things don’t make you whitewashed. I was being sarcastic…and those ARE some of the reasons I have heard black people give for labeling a person as whitewashed.

    If you mean that worshiping the ground that white people walk on, and trying to disown my race and uplift another then, as I have stated, I am most CERTAINLY not whitewashed. Unfortunately, YOU may understand what being “whitewashed” really is, but trust me…many other black people DO NOT.

  • TheOriginalBlkBarbie

    I may not have been clear in my original post, but the only thing I am confused about is WHY people choose to hold on to the race divisions and why certain more “white” characteristics are given the upper hand in black culture. The only thing that I don’t understand is why people can’t just LET IT GO ALREADY. I completely understand the history, but why can’t we be UNIFIED? Is this too much to ask? :(

  • TheOriginalBlkBarbie

    My posts are not meant to offend you or others…

    Just honest questions/curiosities that I have as a black woman…

    I never put down my own race and I know this is a blog, but it does make me sad to think that you somehow feel that I am biased against my own race and I “can’t see it” because of how I grew up…

    Oh well…

    @Fucc…darling leave the judgmental chatter in your trunk. I’m well traveled, BLACK, hold a good job, and have a girlfriend of another race(dated black women most of my life)….also from a two parent home, and can scrap with the best of thugs. That’s just to help u describe what I possibly know about getting out in the world. Now, what I’m saying is it’s your option to side with someone you don’t know….but also be ready to crash wit em. No diss love.
    __________________________________________
    no offense but miss me wit the bull, sir. u say all that 2 say what? that i shudnt share an opinion with sum1 of another race? a lil confused on me being ready to crash with sum1 since i crashes with no one (literally and figuratively) white or black. but from wat ur saying, u obviously are. now i see no problem with u dating outside ur race but u obviously expect me to uphold this faux pride that sum of us blacks have regarding ‘choosing sides’. now wat with u having this type of pride, it makes me believe that u r the pot calling the kettle black (no pun intended).

  • DWadeaminute

    @Fucc…whatever, I never called anyone anything. That’s you and your pal Exotica trying to take off on me, when all I’m trying to do is make valid points. You siding with someone of another race has nothing to do with the convo….but your teammate definitely needs help regardless of color. Don’t blame me for the anger that you harbor. You shouldn’t have a problem with me dating outside my race, because you don’t know me foo!! Ya gotta pass the bar exam to be a judge yo. I never came at either one of you with any type of personal/judgmental negativity, but it’s funny how you try to put some kind of spin on my comments.
