They didn’t explain why she flipped them off (???) but either way, that is freedom of speech. It is sad that insecure little boys with badges try to punish people for not liking them. I think it’s vague-ass charges like “disorderly conduct” that allows police to abuse authority. My ex got into a police officer’s ass outside a club because the officer bumped into me (hard) and tried to keep going like he didn’t see me. So my ex gave em the business (verbally- and with limited swear words). The officer then arrested him for “disorderly conduct”. The charges were eventually dropped, but it was still a night of hell all because some officer thinks his badge gives him free reign to act an ass with everybody. This young lady should not be charged with assault if witnesses say the officer touched her first. Plain and simple.

It was in Long Beach. Those cops went too far. They pulled over an entire bus just to confront the woman and slamming her face to the ground was just wrong so I hope she does sue for that.

On the flip side though this is what irritates me about some black people particularly her:

Has anyone seen “Caught on Camera” on MSNBC? They have many cases of police abusing their authority being video taped by their own cruisers. The police in South Carolina are so out of order that they are being investigated by the FEDS. St. Louis has a citizen action committee that basically police the police due to many cases of abuse of power by the cops. I advise every community to form one. The police are suppposed to answer to the people and its up to us to make sure that they do.

1. Most police officers barely have their GED let alone a college degree.

2. Police officers, military officials and others working in the armed services barely know how 2 shoot their guns let alone protect the people thay are soupposed to be serving. Ya’ll know they only need 3 months (most of the times less) before they are given theor gun and badge. yea they have 2 take a written test but that is useless when one is actually thrown in a life threatening situation.

3. Anybody can become a police officer, including bigots and reformed power hungry jackasses who seek revenge against anyone who reminds them of the times when they regularly got their ass beat.

4. There is a reason why they have the poor guarding the poor. The same reason they had the slaves whipping other slaves. Many hispanics are harrassed by the police because of their color and do complain about it. Racial profiling is not a myth. She may have been wrong, but the police have a higher responsibilty than she does. I was on the citizens review board in St. Louis and we believe in making the police accountable for mistreatment of all individuals. It just so happens most of the mistreatment is directed towards minorites. Not my opinion, but verified facts. You’d better open your eyes before you’re on the list. The man-chic decides to flip off two cops. These cops got on the bus and confronted her and asked, “if there’s a problem?” This man-chic responsed, “there is one now.” To me that’s a threat. being in law enforcement i see these types of things everyday. we don’t see everything that transpired. We just see the cops pulling the girl off the bus. its hard to make a judgement when you don’t know the whole thing. you know the police were justified in pulling her off of that bus if showed any type of resistance. as a police officer you never know what people have on them or their motives and being on a crowded bus with the girl’s sister trying to fight you as well puts an added risk to it. could the cops just have ignored the girl flipping them off? yeah…but you have to save face, you can’t let everyone slide some of the time or people tend to get out of pocket really quickly.

I think some people are mistunderstanding and thinking that this only happen to the girl for flipping her finger. Did yall not hear her mouth. She was trying to be big and bad. Not that it means she should have gotten her face smashed on the ground but there’s a certain amount of space between humans. Like it or not those cops are humans. She crossed that space to get closer and say ” I do have a problem now” Any human in their right minds would swing on that girl. She was testing the officer more than once starting from her middle finger, to the invasion of his personal space making him feel threatened. And yes those officers can pull over a bus for that. They cannot arrest her for it, but they can approach her about it. Truck drivers radio bus drivers all the time when kids throw things out the windows, spit, or put up vulgar signs. There are definitely officers out there that look for trouble and I’ve seen it first hand, but also there are ones that people like to provoke because they say “I got a right to do this and you can’t do nothing to me”

I hope the officers get in trouble for the smashing of her face on the ground and stuff, but also she needs to get in trouble for what she did also. Both parties took things too far. Had those officers called her a dyke as “freedom of speech” every gay organization black and white would’ve been going after them. Some people need to grow up and learn the difference in ignorance.

I think that you missed the point. No one is attempting to justify the woman’s actions. If she was resisting arrest then she deserved to be arrested for the offense. The issue at hand is the magnitude of the officers’ response. Was it necessary to break 4 bones in the woman’s face in the midst of the arrest? Consider the fact that the hardest bone in the body is found in the face! Sorry, but the manner in which they conducted themselves is blatant excessive force. Therein lies the problem!!! It is common knowledge that resisting arrest is an umbrella term that cops frequently use to justify THEIR use of said force. The way that the law is written, one can technically “resist arrest” verbally and not lay a hand on an officer in the process of the arrest. Does that justify what we have seen here? NO!!!! Sorry, but NO ONE deserves to be assulted like that for an offense that does not cause bodily harm to an officer. THAT is the point.

From my understanding her sister of herself flipped off the cop from the bus window, so they were agitating the police. I know how frustrating it can be to ride the bus, bus you shouldn’t take your frustration out on other people. It’s all about discipline and respect for others. I was pulled over by the police in March for a warrant that I had cleared a month prior. I was very angry and upset, but I kept my cool because they were the law, they were men and they had guns. They took to me jail and although I very, very upset I made calm small talk with the cop. They found out that they “had made a mistake” upon my entering jail and they let me go within 20 minutes. I filed a complaint and put the incident behind me. The police were rough with her, but she should have keep her cool and just apologize for the gesture…then she might have avoided being beat down and jailed. I don’t know if she will get compensation for this, but it’s pretty clear that her attitude needs to change.

BTW, isn’t it cool to be gay in Cali…I guess if you look like a woman then it’s cool

How did this blog turn into a race issue anyway? The cops were wrong plain and simple. SHE was wrong plain and simple. Two wrongs deserve consequences, but a broken face isnt one of them.

I’ve never pulled the race card in my 29 yrs on earth. In fact my friend and I first experienced racism in college, (she is mexican, I am black) were stranded in a white neighborhood about 9 years ago going to get apps for a college and we were trying to wave down cabs to get back to the inner city and not ONE stopped for us. Being the naive ppl we were, thinking America had come a long way from racism, didnt understand why we were not picked up until after 6 DAMN HOURS of walking trying to find a train or bus to go in our direction. Once we did, we started talking amongst ourselves of the disbelief of the situation. We’d only heard of that happening in NY. Never ONCE did we call anyone a cracker or honky…its so childish.

Long story short, these are the experiences that make people view things the way they do. I love all races even though that happened, but all black ppl are not ghetto baby mamas, or thugs, or have warrants our for them.

The world is a stereotype and the only way to defray it, is to teach OUR children to love everyone. It has to start somewhere.

This incident that we were blogging about is BS, simple as that. The woman flipped an officer off, but that doesn’t justify stopping the bus and confronting the woman. The Police are trained in situations much worse than this. Imagine if some brothas such as myself would have been around to see this, it could have escalated into a massive ass whiping and the score would have been Streets 1 Cops-0

The point is the whole incident was avoidable. She shouldn’t have gave them the finger but damn it’s plenty of us out here that feel the same way she did because we get mistreated on a regular.

Anyone can “resist arrest” verbally. Resisting arrest can mean a lot of things, and that is why the law is so ambiguous. Even so, resisting arrest does not predicate the need for unnecessary violence and this is a clear case of brutality IMO. It was two against one! Since when is that “fair?” SMH

I was driving my uncle’s BMW and the cop pulled me over. When I asked him WHY he stated that the tag light was out. Now you know me so NO, I was exactly friendly cause I knew that he was full of $hit. I cranked up the car, get out, and what do you know? The tag light is FINE. I am not a judge by profession but to me, it’s as plain as day that they took it too far. The officer jumped her first, and she was still in the process of talking. Recently, in Maryland, in Prince George’s County, a 19-year-old brother was strangled to death while being held in jail on charges of allegedly killing a police officer. The family has asked for a federal investigation, and the investigation is ongoing. Now this young man was no saint and had a rap sheet, but he was murdered.

These are the LONG BEACH police not beverly hills. If a police office cant handle someone flipping him off in long beach then he needs to find another field. I live in long beach and there is much more things to be worried about than an alleged middle finger being thrown at you. I am not saying flipping of the police officer is right but pulling over a city bus with people who were probaly commuting to work is over the top.

Hey, can you help me out, sis? This incident involved Long Beach police, right? I’m looking for any news mention of this video, and all I’m finding are blog posts. Then I checked the Long Beach newspaper’s site and found this. Seems like the Long Beach police have a few brutality cases on their hands:

LONG BEACH – Relatives of an 18-year-old burglary suspect found dead in the back of a police cruiser after fighting with residents and police gathered in front of the LBPD headquarters Tuesday, demanding answers and justice.

“Nobody’s telling me nothing, I don’t even know why my baby is dead,” said Lakeysha Wright-Lee, mother of Deshoun Keyon Torrence.

The protest occurred less than an hour after Wright-Lee met with several high ranking members of the Long Beach Police Department, including Gang and Violent Crimes Cmdr. Laura Farinella and lead Homicide Detective Russ Moss, who tried to give her as much information as they could about the case, Farinella said.

The incident above reportedly happened Saturday and involved the use of taser guns. The story quotes Naomi Rainey, president of the Long Beach chapter of the NAACP, but she’s currently in Cincinnati at the NAACP national conference:

The officers knew Torrence was not armed and was secure when they used their Taser guns on him, Harrison said.

“They Tasered him approximately five times even though his hands were cuffed behind his back,” Harrison said. “They Tasered him, and Tasered him, and Tasered him.”

Police denied those claims Tuesday, saying officers did not know residents had handcuffed Torrence and that the his arms were not behind his back when police arrived. Police also said Tuesday that he was shocked two times with a Taser gun, not five times.

Girl, I can’t find anything about the video in this post, but I looked up the Long Beach newspaper site and found the other above story about a young brother who was found dead in the back of a police car. Now whoever has the video should send it to the local/national news outlets/NAACP/etc. and it will get picked up. I’m seeing more and more of these stories. And the video serves as evidence of an assault.

I treied to post a link for the Long Beach Press-Telegram story on Deshoun Keyon Torrence, who recently died in police custody, but it didn’t go through. Sorry.

Couple of things here the lady instigated the altercation. As some people on here say that officers are always harrassing black people in particular, if that is the case why give them a reason? The entire footage of the video is not there so I am not sure as to what truly transpired.

I have been pulled over by the police on a numerous occassions (never got a ticket, YESSSSSSSSS!), and all the cops have been white. Do I think I was pulled over because I am black? Absolutely not. One incidence in particular while on my way to work speeding as usual, a cop passed me by and everyone slowed down except me, I kept speeding and even drove passed him doing 73 in a 55. He waved for me to pull over and all he said was “ma’am are you familiar with the speed limit? It’s 55 and I’m doing 70 myself and you are doing 73, slow down”. I deserved a ticket that day for sure, now if he did give me a ticket it would’ve been because I was breaking the law and not because I am black.

Officers are people too and like people you have good ones and bad ones, so eff the police? negative. I work at a bank in a high crime area in Atl, and whenever we call the police they are there for us. So I have a lot of respect for the ones that do their jobs according to the law.

Back to ya girl and her foolish antics, she might as well just opened the window and hollered out “eff the police”, because that is what she was pretty much saying. Had she not been the instigator the bus would not have been pulled over, etc.

My brother got pulled over the other day because he had his brights on. There was no one else on the road but him. The cops proceeded to scream and yell at him as if he was a criminal. That’s why alot of people are shooting at the police… because their scared. Alot of people feel kill or be killed! Only difference is a suvillian will get 25 to life for shooting a cop. If a cop shoots a suvillian they get a 3 days suspension. Look at the Sean Bell case. Those cops have moved on with their lives and Mrs.Bell and her children are without their husband/father. Its evident that we are living in the last days.

It’s not about being smart. It’s about being legal. The police are deputized to be the citizens moral authority on appropriate behavior. They were not being provoked while she was on a moving bus. She had committed no crime. Getting on the police’s nerves is not a crime.
