Who Dat!! New Orleans Saints Made it Rain on the Colts To Clinch 1st Super Bowl Victory

Poor Peyton Manning:

The New Orleans Saints turned the Super Bowl’s postgame celebration into something out of the French Quarter.From the trophy podium on the field, Drew Brees blew kisses and caught confetti raining down as Dr. John and Professor Longhair blared from the stadium speakers. Sean Payton hung over the railing clapping and shouting down to the crowd as if he were rolling on a Mardi Gras float, then waved a newspaper with the banner headline “WORLD CHAMPS.”

Who are the champions? The New Orleans Saints, dat’s who. The Saints overcame an early 10-point deficit, pulled off a risky onside kick and won their first NFL title by beating the Indianapolis Colts 31-17 Sunday night. Brees tied a Super Bowl record for completions and was voted the game’s MVP, while the Saints held Peyton Manning to a single score in the final three quarters, intercepting him for a touchdown that sealed the victory.

New Orleans knows how to celebrate, but for the beleaguered city and its long-bedraggled NFL franchise, the championship touched off a new kind of joy.
“Four years ago, who ever thought this would be happening when 85 percent of the city was under water?” Brees said. “Most people left not knowing if New Orleans would ever come back, or if the organization would ever come back. We just all looked at one another and said, `We are going to rebuild together. We are going to lean on each other.’ This is the culmination in all that belief.”

Nearly an hour after the game, Saints rooters kept chanting their rally cry, Who Dat? One player climbed into the stands, others tossed their sweaty padding to souvenir seekers, and coach Payton held up the Lombardi Trophy so fans along the railing could touch it. “I just wish we could split it up in a lot of little pieces,” Payton said.

With the city still recovering from Hurricane Katrina, an NFL title is sure to accelerate the healing. It was the Saints’ first appearance in a Super Bowl, and few outside of Louisiana foresaw a victory, with Indy a 5-point favorite.

N.O. Stand up!!!

THE MAGNITUDE OF THE STORM WAS SO POWERFUL GIANTS, PATRIOTS, BUCCANEERS, RAIDERS AND REDSKINS HAVE BEEN STRUCK DOWN. AND NO ONE WAS SAFE IN THE WATER- IT HAS TAKEN OUT DOLPHINS AND HAS EVEN SUNK A VIKING SHIP. RANCHERS WAS WARNED TO PROTECT THERE COLTS, BUT LIKE THE FORCE THE WHO DATS EVERYTHING WAS FLATTEN!!! HURRICANE WHO DAT PASSED THRU VEGAS AND SLIPPED EVERYONE WHO WASN’T READY FOR THIS STORM. STAY AWARE THAT THE SAINTS ARE A FORCE TO BE RACKEN WITH!!!!!!

    @DRENK

    There is a lot of money being generated in the city of New Orleans because of the Saints and everybody’s been talking about how good a Super Bowl win would be for the city and the victims so put your money where your mouth is..I’m sure every cent being made isn’t going to the NFL and even if it is they sill should give something back..How are going to be a championship winning team (making millions)off of a city struck by disaster and don’t do a damn thing to try improve it, they should be embarrassed not to do something..I bet those poor people are buying the Saints memeroboblia putting money in their pockets.

  • NYCDaBest

    @@DRENK,IF YOU CAN PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME HOW IS THE SAINTS WINNING THE SUPERBOWL GOING TO GENERATE A WHOLE BUNCH OF MONEY TO THE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS BUT THE MONEY YALL HAD FROM KATRINA BUT THE CITY IS STILL POOR WITH NO HOPE SO IF THE SAINTS WINING A SUPERBOWL GIVES YOU HOPE ROCK OUT.YALL GOT BILLIONS FROM KATRINA BUT N.O STILL AND ALWAYS WILL BE POOR.

  • drenk

    @STEFANY

    its sad but the whole ‘winning it for the city’ was always pushed as a morale booster only for the city nothing more, saints are just a franchise of the NFL they dont give a f..k about the city itself or any city, they would gladly move somewhere else if they could make more $$ than in NOLA

  • MS. BORN EAT SLEEP LOUISIANA

    happy for them saints, tuesday its going down there will be a parade, yes sir I will be in dat

  • drenk

    @NYCDaBest

    well the money from Katrina was not handed out to individuals or even city organizations. Starting under clinton and going into overdrive during bush, the gov’t contracted out many of the responsibilites of disaster relief to private companies FOR PROFIT, paid for by tax payers, those companies in turn subcontracted out the work, NEVER forced to hire NOLA natives or residents to keep money in the city, bringin in outside workers, short changing “reconstruction” to keep their profits higher.

    @DRENK

    I totally agree..And the people should remember this while they’re buying the Saints tee-shirts and bull$h!t walking around beating their chest as if a Super Bowl Championship is going to make a differnce..And as for as a morale booster, how are you going to lift peple that that don’t have a damn thing to begin with.

  • drenk

    how are you going to lift peple that that don’t have a damn thing to begin with.
    ———

    there definately should be some type of “give back to the city” thing from the team. and not a couple of the players reading to kindergartners either! something real, like helping rebuild homes or something and not just the tourist areas. as far as winning be a morale booster, like any sports fans, when your team wins it at least helps you get your mind off of the hardhips, unfortunately its short lived and reality comes crashing back

  • Southern Girl

    @ elle

    The term ” WHO DAT ” comes from the blacks in LOUISIANA, but the WHITE MAN is trying to claim that too…

  • loveme loveme not

  • bornraised&bred

    @NYCDABEST

    It’s all good, you can try as you may but FAIL

    NO ONE can shi-t on us today

    You could NEVER understand New Orleans, you just have to be from here to get it

    We respect that

    Ppl the hurricane was 5 years ago, most citizens have moved on, what exactly would this $$ from the Saints be for? Everyone in NO is not destitute. And even if NO will be “poor forever” as you predict, we all good down here, ya heard me. All we need is a pot of gumbo, a second line and Saints on Sunday. Family is more important here than any material item you assume we lack. How narrow-minded that you guys just buy what the media feeds you without questioning.

    We support the Saints Good, Bad or Indifferent, whether they generate a billion dollars or one

    @SouthernGirl

    It was actually a chant that started during St. Augustine High’s football games and spread. It’s a “creole” thing…

    STAND UP NO!

    WE DAT!!

  • yadi

    the saints ARE new orleans, 44 years thick as thieves. We.Are.Champions. don’t hate

    Bless You Boys!

  • yadi

    not to slight past saints players but Brees, Sharper, McAllister, Shockey, and the list goes on…

    these guys have been giving back to N.O. since they arrived. they’re not just great ballplayers but they are great guys, period!

  • Lnana

    SOME PEOPLE WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND NEW ORLEANS, WE ARE JUST DIFFERENT FROM THE REST OF THE WORLD…FOR ALL THE HATERS AND NAY SAYERS…YOU CAN’T RAIN ON OUR PARADE, CAUSE WE HAVE BEEN THROUGH SO MUCH THAT NOTHING YOU CAN SAY CAN TEAR US DOWN-WE ARE STRONG. PEOPLE ON HERE TALKING ABOUT KATRINA LIKE THEY KNOW WHAT HAPPENED…DON’T BELEIVE EVERYTHING YOU READ AND SEE ON TV. ALTHOUGH SOME AREAS HAVEN’T FULLY RECOVERED, WE ARE STILL OPTIMISTIC ABOUT THE FUTURE. THE SAINTS WINNING JUST BOOSTED OUR MORALE EVEN MORE. SO ALL NEGATIVE COMMENTS MEAN NOTHING. WITH THAT SAID; NO THE BEST…WHO DAT…WE DAT!!!!!!!! I’M PROUD OF THE SAINTS!!!

  • Mrs. Darren shellychelle Sharper

    WHO DAT? WE DAT! I’M HAPPY THE SAINTS WON, THEY DESERVED IT! SAINTS #SB44 WHOOO HOOOO!!!

  • telli38

    The New Yorker who’s hating on the Saints. I pitty you. If New Orleans fans are so poor why did our fans out numbered the Colts 10 to 1 in Miami.

    A black man can’t even get a cab in NY and let’s not talk about the record number of blacks leaving NY for ATl and other southern city search for a better way of life other than just surviving from check to check in New York. Let’s check our own back yard before we throw unnessary stones. I’ve live in New Orleans for 40 plus years and I’ve never been poor. Now take that…………Who Dat!

  • Creole Cutie

    BLESS YOU BOYS! GEAUX SAINTS!!! BLACK & GOLD WON THE SUPERBOWL!

  • tg

    I can’t understand why you guys are hating on each other over a Superbowl win. I’m happy for the winners – no matter who it was destined to be. It happened to be NO this time. People need to stop hating. They deserve to be happy and celebrate JUST LIKE ANY OTHER winners, etc. Cheez – let them have their glory.

  • tell it like it is…

    @NYCDaBest – Why are you trying to turn an athletic competition into something political? You are a dumbass for that. Quit sippin’ on that hater-ade, you no spelling bastard.

  • TheJohnsonSisters

    @telli38——————>

    ☑New Orleans and the rest of the south are the poorest region(U.S census show in America).

    ☑It’s NOT our fault that we are go getters and we are motivated to go out and work for whatever.Like I said we do the most,we work the hardest for anything and everything we do.It’s not our fault New Orleans is just poor and are so uneducated that they don’t even value life or education.

    ☑The reason why people up north live lavishly and live the finest life that people in the south wished they did because we value education.

    ☑New Orleans has the poorest educational system in America.

  • TheJohnsonSisters

    To Let Go Let God——->Fema scammed us out of nothing,Its not our fault

  • Kanaan

    To all those with endless threads of negative comments about New Orleans and the Superbowl Champions, New Orleans Saints — get so help.. Therapy.. You are crying out for therapy… You did not get attentiona as a kid.. You were poor and are still poor. You and uneducated and still are. You don’t own and home, nor stocks, nor bonds. You don’t even have savings.. Poor you. You want to lash out on us, New Orleanians because of your terrible situation. Instead of using the blog to sooth your tormented soul, go in the next room where your mother is (because you still live at home) and ask for a hug. You will feel so much better.

  • rhoda

    I would like to give a BIG congrats to the SAINTS. It’s been a long time coming and a change did come. After leaving the city on Monday afternoon. I really and truly did not realize how much I miss this city. For those who speak ill of this city I will pray that you have a bless day because it’s obvious that you’re bitter and want some attention, but it’s COOL you can come and party in the N.O. for Mardi Gras drinks on me.

    ☑It’s NOT that DEEP or SERIOUS so calm all the way down.

  • Spuddy In New Orleans

    @TheJohnsonSisters, tehn why did u comment further? It’s not that serious? Were u not the one with the multiple checklists? It is amazing that I could afford to live in Foggy Bottom in DC. Not far from Watergate. (for those that don’t know, it isn’t cheap to live there) I hsve enough money to pay my bills with no effort and have enough to shop for what I want and for entertainment. I am not rich by far, but I am okay. I have a steady job. Ya might have heard of my company, United States Marine Corps. Yeah. Steady paycheck. Bout to retire, at 40 AND will have another good job working for the government as a civilian when I get out, can retire from that at 60 and get 2 retirement checks and live like it’s golden. I am originally from New Orleans, and was blesed to get stationed here as my last duty station. No one in my family who lives here as well are poor. They have great jobs, the ones who are not retired. Again, not rich but doing well. Our friends have similar lifestyles. This is not the exception in New Orleans, it is the norm despite what they choose to put on the news to score ratings. I came back, June 2004. Had damage from Katrina, yeah I got a FEMA check for 2,000 dollars, that would not have replaced my living room television. I have insurance. Thank God it was thru USAA which is insurance for military members and their dependants. Others had insurance, but the companies came up with multiple reasons not to pay. If the people had flood ins. the company would say the damage was from a hurricane, if you had hurricane ins, the company would say that covers wind not flood, and so on. Most people are doing ok. There are some people here who are considered poor. That’s the same in any city. My point is, you don’t live here and your only sources are tv and newspapers who report what sells and gains ratings. Your venom toward my city bewilders me. What have we done to upset you so bad that you feel your tirade is appropriate. If one of us took ya man, find another one. If one of us took your woman, same advice. If you are pissed that those of us from New Orleans are classless becauwe we are so different from the rest of the country, read up on our history and learn why. But don’t hate.It causes wrinkles and at the rate you’re going you could be 20 and look 75. Keep it peaceful before, it can ony be resolved with a piece. Not saying it would be me, just saying. I wuldn’t waste a bullet on you personally. Oh and Geaux Saints. Who Dat.

  • TheJohnsonSisters

    @Spuddy In New Orleans————>
