I know I read this years ago regarding his background and how that lack of being recognized and accepted by his fathers’ family, was the impetus for his wanting to be successful and recognized.

I think most of America realized he was angry because he fits the profile of the shameful, absent father that Barack was referring to. We’ve all seen them, heard about them and no doubt, seen the hurt children left behind.

Children need both parents. A man is just as important a parent as a woman. Men teach you how to navigate in the world; how to be strong and standup for your ideals; how to be confident regardless of what others say. Like it or not, women don’t have all the tools to raise high self-esteemed children. A loving, caring, hard-working man is necessary to raise a happy and successful human being.

For too long black women have put themselves in relationships no matter how brief and have borne children. It’s time black women take responsibility and demand that their men prove their worth.

A man must have good values; want to work; able to keep a job; have an education-even if it’s vocational, some type of skill-no hustling. A man must prove he has the intellect to think and make good decisions about his own life before you join you life to his and this must occur before he marries you and way before you get pregnant by him.

Black women have thrown their self-respect out the door long ago. It’s time to reclaim our worth and stop allowing these boys(in men’s bodies)to treat you as common trash. Then and only then will these ignorant thugs learn that we will no longer be their safety nets.

So don’t come up years later acting hurt…
