People get so caught up in labels and apperences that they make blanket judgements based on superficial bullshit. Every baby mama does not have loose morals and every "properly" wed mother isn't virtuous (i.e. Brittany Spears). There are a lot of benefits to being married before having kids but family structures that fall outside that standard are not inherently deficient. We have no reason to believe that Badu is not a responsible and upstanding mother and that the father of her children are not in their lives.
