Who Cares About Talent? Rihanna Wins Film Role, But Has To Take Acting Classes

Posted on February 12th, 2010 - By Bossip Staff

Categories: Diana Ross, New Movie, News, Rihanna, True or False?

BOSSIP recently learned that Rihanna has been cast in her first starring role! The only catch… the folks behind the film aren’t all that confident in RihRih’s acting. Pop the hood for details:

Rihanna’s big role is for a film called About Face, which revolves around a fashion designer who has to change her ways to win over the man of her dreams, not unlike the Billy Dee Williams and Diana Ross classic Mahogany. Here’s the hitch:

“No one is sure she has any acting skills. She’s a bit stiff and has to learn how to emote more,” a source tells Star. “She’s been asked to quietly take acting classes. No one wants another Madonna on their hands — someone who can sing but can’t act!”

Hate to break it to the producers of this one, but Rihanna can’t do either. Neither can Madonna if you want to be all the way real about it. Then again, Rihanna actually might make a decent actress, goodness knows we’ve seen her play the role enough…

i won’t be able to sit through 2 hours of her accent.

    Sorry Rih Rih

  • Shellboogie

Her acting can be worse than Beyonce in “Obessed”.

  • 1TruDiva’s away from her desk. Leave a message.

I think she can pull it off!

  • drenk

what a slap to the face to real actors out there tryin to make it

  • Mrs. Darren shellychelle Sharper

Oh lord… riyodel can barely talk, let alone sing, and now she’s acting?

  • shonda

It is a shame for the real trained actors trying to break into the industry. Rhi just lands a part because of who she is….AND GETS A MASSIVE FEE FOR HER TROUBLES.

  • real black is chocolate f’ck fake azz bullsh’t!!!! real nikka aka Gmen

    ————-NO TALENT———–

  • JOJO

LOL! Everything ya’ll said about Madonna and Rhianna is 100% true! Not everyone is a triple threat!

  • Miss A.

With her accent, they’re gonna need captions on the screen.

  • frankiestage

From her stint on SNL, my suspicions are her acting will be about as energetic and inspiring as her stage dancing.

  • JOJO

    LOLZ! @ Miss A. LMBO!

  • Virginia News

@ drenk, you said it all.

  • b’more

after seeing beyonce in ‘obsessed’, Rihanna can’t possibly do worse acting than that.

  • Tasha J

If they’re not confident in her acting abilities, why don’t they just hire an actual actor then? dummies

  • KittyPetit

    …Hell, she’s not like Madonna(can sing;can’t act) Rihanna can’t sing 1st! And now Acting?! I don’t think so….

  • POOKA

WELL OF COURSE WHO IS GONNA CARE ABOUT TALENT ALL RIHOE I MEAN RIHANNA GONNA DO IS WALK AROUND THE SET ACTING LIKE ITS A CAT-WALK/RUNWAY

WHAT SHE GON DO??? ACT LIKE SHE CAN SPEAK ENGLISH…..lol

  • Demmi

I wonder who made this one up.LOL

  • BLACK PEOPLE STOP PLAYING YOURSELVES

Rihanna HAS NO TALENT. SHE IS NOT BEAUTIFUL AT ALL. SO WHY DO YOU LOOSERS KEEP SUPPORTING HER AND MAKING HER BIG? BLAME YOURSELVES.

  • Lala_NEXT

HAHAHAHA You guys are serious? This is a joke, right? Ha! This is gotta see. I do need a good laugh, so this I gotta see. Not with my money, but gotta see.
I strongly think she’ll be worse than Beyonce.

  • Wintz

Rihanna speaks the Standard English very well.

Her vocabulary isn’t limited (she’s NOT been heard to constantly repeat phrases for eg. ‘its like wow…wow…’ while not being able to effectively say whats on her mind).

The problem that stems from accents lies within the clarity of diction. Enunciation is quite an important element to articulate when one is speaking. Therefore its imperative that she focuses on this area.

Again its smart of her to enroll in Drama classes.

  • Mrs.Laadee

Why cast a non actress in a role when there are plenty are seasoned actresses who don’t need lessons and would be ready to film tomorrow if necessary.

  • Yummy Yummy Bunny!!! Sugar and Stars make the world go round :)

@WINTZ very good point my dear

However, the girl keeps herself relevant because she always switches up her look, and presents the audience with something different. Thus, keeping people on the edge of their toes as to what she will do next.

Yet, that does not transcend into talent on the big screen. Your point of clarity of diction is important because if you cannot communicate with the audience with words and pronounced enunciation, people will get lost and loose interest.

Brit and Beyoncee are American, and were capable with communicating with Americans simply because they are The girl’s dialect is going to be an issue. Plus, the fact that she is highly uneducated like Brit and Beyoncee (who both are a joke on the screen), it is going to be difficult and interesting if she can move past her flat speaking persona, and display some type of depth

    Love
    The Happy Bunny :)

  • clara

OF COURSE SHE CAN ACT. SHE PUT ON THIS GREATEST SHOW EVER ALL LAST YEAR WHEN SHE CONNED AMERICA INTO BELIEVING SHE WAS A VICTIM. SHE SHOULD GIVE UP SINGING.

HOWEVER, SHE’S PROBABLY TOO STUPID AND LAZY TO LEARN HER LINES OR SHOW UP FOR REHEARSALS.

  • dia

i love rihanna and all but why pick a girl who has NO acting experience whatsoever instead of casting ppl who’ve been in the business

  • Max

What is wrong with her accent? Typical of back Americans – uneducated, ghetto trash always talkng about people’s accent. Try to get out the ‘hood and get some exposure so that maybe you can begin to appreciate other cultures.

Do you every stop to think of how you sound to others?

  • DR.FUNK

The venue may change…but the total lack of talent stays the same. She’ll never get a dime of my entertainment money.

  • Vern

    @ WINTZ
THANKS,I COULDN’T HAVE SAID IT BETTER!
    GO ‘GET-EM’ RIRI!

    @ MAX
    WELL SAID!
RIHANNA HAS A LOT OF CONFIDENCE AND IS VERY SURE OF SELF!

oh, max, I’m not uneducated because I don’t like someone’s accent.

ANd my accent, is mine, and i honestly don’t care if someone likes it or not.

This is a blog about Rihanna and her acting skills, and i don’t wanna sit and listen to her accent for 2 hours.

Her singing aint a problem to me, but her speaking accent annoys me.

Sorry max, but even the educated black ppl don’t like the sound of Rihanna’s speaking voice.

    That’s All.

  • grant

wow taking good work from real actors once again…what a joke…I hope it bombs…

  • http:/yahoo.com hardcastle

GIVE RIRI A CHANCE SHE JUST MIGHT BE A NATURAL . NO ONE KNEW HOW A LOT OF THE SRARS WAS GOING TO DO UNTIL THEY CASTED THEM ……SHE JUST MIGHT BE A NATURAL NO ONE KNOWS UNTIL THEY TRY AND LORD KNOWS THEY HAVE TRIED ENOUGH FLOPS TO AT LEAST GIVE RIHANNA A CHANCE !!!!!!

  • bria

She may do a good job. The one that should be required to take acting classes is Beyonce because she is stiff and can’t exude nor display emotins.

  • THE GIRL TALKING TRASH RIGHT HERE

RIHANNA I HATE U!I WISHED YOU’D GO BACK TO WHEREVER U CAME FROM

  • http://yomommashouse.com YoungRuff

Not a Rihanna fan….I don’t know why people think she can sing?????

  • Chitown

I believe that the need to speak “evil” or to relish in others problems is a fast and cheap way to falsely raise one’s own self esteem. A much more positive and long-lasting esteem booster is to feel positive energy toward others and develop empathy and compassion when one comes upon the suffering of a fellow human. I think if we are truly honest with ourselves, we all know that when we wish others well, whether close relations or strangers we hear about in the media, we get a more glowing and positive feeling than the temporary and superficial rush of wishing negativity or relishing in their suffering.

Over the years I have worked closely with many types of people as a therapist. I have no doubt that good energy put out into the world will always be reflected back in positive ways. We tend to attract what we generate…I am sure that all of us would rather attract lightness and well-being than darkness and negativity.

  • stir up problems

Damn shame the real actresses miss out on roles because everybody wants to give them to “it” girls like Rihanna and Beyonce.

  • nikki88

horrible idea. anyone who spends money on this is beyond stupid.
odds are…she’ll get dropped from the film. she is NOT ment to act.

  • tom

i bet she acts better than beyonce but i dont like her

  • ARIES79

SO WHAT IF YALL HATE SHE STILL DOING HER THANG HOES

  • daahlingnikki

when are they going to realize that just because a person can yodell on record doesn’t mean they can act…it’s wrong that so many good black actresses are out of work and can’t get decent acting roles because they are going to singers…everyone can’t be a triple threat case in point the aforementioned madonna, j-lo and your beloved bey bey…it’s not fair to well seasoned actresses who study for years and never get the breaks they deserve because studio heads care more about their bottomline than quality performances…this farce should be straight to DVD….

  • Marquis de Sade

    If she ain’t doin’ p.o.r.n.o., then I can’t relate.

  • Rihanna’s sharp n witchy fingernails took the oath-Mariah’sconcertlastnightwasGREAT!

    SHE CAN’T SING EITHER!

  • Rihanna’s sharp n witchy fingernails took the oath-Mariah’sconcertlastnightwasGREAT!

    @mAX
UH, RIHANNA IS JUST A GHETTO CHICKEN FROM THE ISLANDS- IF BY GETTING OUT OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD MEANS GOING TO WEAR RIHANNA GREW UP, THAT WOULD BE ASENINE.

  • christy

there is nothing wrong with Rihanna’s accent. The world is big enough for everyone not just Americans let her be.

  • Lati

Haters,Haters,Haters. Why do you guys hate constantly on people that are at the top and your at the bottom sitting on the computer trying to down talk people through a computer, when the celebrities barely even read this because all yall mostly bring is negative energy. GO BETTER YOURSELF!!!!! Are you just mad because you didn’t get the part?! when you probably can’t even damn sing and be talking about she can’t sing. come on now 2010 PEOPLE! lmfaoooooooooo

  • YIU

    STRAIGHT TO DVD !!!!!!!!!

  • TRUTH IS….

rhitardi and beytacky should leave acting to real actors…..only few can do it

  • bluekid

I like her natural light brown eyes, than those spooky blue and green contacts.

  • NYC Gal

Rihanna could go and do acting. Accent and all.

After all Sidney Poitier had a thick and heavy Bahamian accent when he won the Oscar for Best Actor.

Also, Javier Bardem has a very thick Spanish accent when he speaks English and as I can recall he won for Best Supporting Actor.

Accents doesn’t prevent an actor from acting, if anything it helps bring character to the actor’s role.

Go girl and do your thing!

  • bluekid

Sidney Poitier did not have a thick heavy Bahamian accent and please do not insult a great well known master at his craft Sidney Poitier with a low life w.h.o.r.e rat Rihanna.

    Never, never compare the two.

  • NYC Gal

    @ Bluekid

Please do your research. Sidney Poitier did have a thick and heavy Bahamian accent and he still won the Oscar for Best Actor!

Compare his accent to Bill Cosby in Uptown Saturday Night! The difference is obvious!

  • androidnancy

The concept of the film already sounds misogynistic….

Needless to say, I won’t be seeing it

  • JOHN D. HATER

    HERE’S A FU@KING IDEA, GET A REAL ACTRESS!!!!

  • yeezyfan

ROTHLMAOOOO @hardcastle who said she might be a natuaral when the producers done said she needs lesson..LMAOOOOO DO U PPL NOT THINK B4 U SPEAK

  • bluekid

Ellery, I have the Lord in my life, you need God and stop worshiping broke celebrities like Rihanna who is broke and bankrupt. So that makes you a very, very pathetic person to bow down in from another human being.

NYC Gal, get a life and stop comparing Rihanna with a real actor who is true to his craft with a no good hood rat.

  • bluekid

    TYPO

Ellery, I have the Lord in my life, you need God and stop worshiping broke celebrities like Rihanna who is broke and bankrupt. So that makes you a very, very pathetic person to bow down TO another human-being.

  • YepThat’sRight!

All actors had to take lessons at one point. It’s not right that actresses who’ve been doing this for years get looked over for parts because hollywood is trying to give beyonce, mariah carey, rihanna, jennifer hudson, angie stone and other musicians their roles.

  • JUICY

IF SHE NEEDS A LIL HELP SO WHAT. ITS NOT THE END OF HER CAREER. BEYONCE NEEDS MAJOR HELP…LORD KNOW SHE CAN’T ACT WORTH NOTHING. BUT THEY DIDN’T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT HER.

  • Lyoness

Ok… I’m going to co-sign with Nia Long and Samuel Jackson. Please hire REAL actors. There are SO many young people out there who want a chance. And they’ve already taken lessons!!! I would really like to see some new brown/black talent w/o these people relying on “singers’ who are acting because it’s the new hip thing to do. I want to see some classically trained actors!!!!

  • MS. SIPPI

She is gonna need some intensive training.. Unlike singing and dancing it takes a bit of intelligence or the gift of a different art form to act. The thing about Rihanna is English is not even her first language. She can barely form a complete correct sentence. In order to act you gotta be able to read with comprehension and convey the emotion, character, and all. If you can’t speak its cause you can’t read, and if you can’t read you can’t speak. She she just might need a reading coach first but, congrads anyway…

  • Interesting

I seriously don’t get it. If they ain’t confident in her acting skills, then why give her the leading role? Rihanna doesn’t appear to be a good actress but who knows, she could exceed expectations or just prove everyone right. Honestly, I think Rihanna should just leave acting alone. Leave it to those with talent, shall we? Singing is not even her forte but since, she’s already in it – she might as well just stick to it and leave the acting alone!

  • R

Joke is most of you on this site are suppose to be born americans but judging by your horrible grammar, I can just imagine how you guys speak. And just to humble u guys, around the world most people think that black americans sound uneducated and ignorant due to your use of ebonics and slang and your accents depending on your american demographic. So get off of ur high horses and realises that your standards are not that of the world.

  • island chic

did it ever occur to some of you black americans that we can’t stand hearing your accents either. So give me my smooth caribbean accent anyday over you guys ebonics riddled way of speaking. Even the white people in corporate america won’t even hire you’re asses, so stfu and stop acting like your accents are anything to brag about. I can see why you guys hate rihanan so much, its because of her island background. There are many american artists who sing worse, or are not even on the level of rihanna when it comes to success, but you guys don’t attack and try to bring them down like you do to rihanna on a daily basis. I think its an agenda on these blogs to try to bring rihanna down, just because she is an islander, and many of you don’t like us. Fellow islanders we should stop standing for this mess, because these people don’t respect us. They talk about our accents, and whenever we achieve any amount of success, they want to see us fail. We should boycott these sites, and don’t even bother to read or comment on the posts. We can’t have people treating us like this, and then keep coming back for more. and the worst thing is that some of you islanders come on here on a daily and rail against rihanna, but when its all said and done, they still hate us and say we can’t even put a sentence together, and they hate our accents.

  • island chic
