BBC TV presenter Ray Gosling has delivered a shocking on-air confession: he smothered his lover to death.

In a documentary on death and dying on BBC One’s Inside Out East Midlands program — filmed in December — Gosling is seen walking through a cemetery when he says, “And maybe, this is the time to share a secret that I’ve kept for quite a long time.

“I killed someone, once,” Gosling continues. “He was a young chap, he had been my lover, and he got AIDS.”

Gosling said that one “hot afternoon” in a hospital, doctors said there was nothing further they could do and his lover was in “terrible, terrible pain” so he asked the doctors to leave them alone.

“And I picked up the pillow, and smothered him until he was dead,” Gosling said. “The doctor came back, I said, ‘He’s gone.’ Nothing more was ever said.”

Gosling then put his head down and cried.

The BBC reports that police are now investigating Gosling and the network will cooperate with the investigation fully.

Gosling later claimed that the two “had a pact” and that he doesn’t think what he did was a crime.

“When you love someone, it is difficult to see them suffer,” he said. “It’s a terrible situation. I loved him to bits. We had a pact. He said if the pain gets bad and if nothing can be done, don’t let him linger on. I don’t think it’s a crime. If he was looking down on me now, he would be proud.”

SMH… Wonder how long he’s been keeping that secret??? As crazy as it sounds, there’s a lot of people in favor of taking their loved ones out, rather than allowing them to suffer. Should he be charged for the murder?

Wow. That must have been hard for him. I will have him in my prayers.

  • Tam Tam

    WOWWWWWWWW!!!!!!

  • Soul Ese

Wow!!!! Took a lot of courage to come out and admit what he did….. I hope he finds some solace and peace now that he has.

  • SweetChariot

I doubt he murdered him in that sense. Unless he gave him the disease as well…

  • runit

    Thats not murder.

  • Sixftsenorita

I wish the media would stop sensationalizing, this was a mercy killing. I would ask someone to kill me too if I were in a lot of pain.

  • BeBe

i feel sorry for him… who knows how long he has had that on his conscious….that is truly truly sad….they should just leave that man alone…he has suffered enough! awwwww!

WOW! I feel bad for the lot of them. I am sorry he had to make that choice. I wonder how this will turn out.

  • hell naw

    Wow!

Does anyone think he should go to jail for what he did? I mean he did smother someone to death…

I think the doctor’s should have put his lover out of his misery and not let him suffer.

  • Gimmeabreak78

It’s hard for me to call this guy a cold-blooded killer. I don’t consider him a murder. I don’t envy the judge who has to make this decision.

  • marie II

let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I dont judge anyone, I leave that to the great creator. He has to stand on judgement day just like the rest of us. Ima be more worried about myself when that day comes.

  • hmmmm

only god can choose when it is your time to leave this earth no matter how you feel .

  • DR.FUNK

Right call by Gosling.Tough call for the judge who has to hear this case.

  • Rachel

I don’t think he should be punished there is such a thing as a mercy killing he didn’t want to see the person he loved in pain. I can understand that, I hope he is not persecuted.

  • Alrighty Then… (Barbara Jordan)

wow, well I guess I’ll be the first to say I think he should be prosecuted. While I feel sorry for the predicament he felt he was in, he took the law, both God’s and the law of the land into his own hands. Basically, he had no right.
My mother moved in and cared for my grandmother while she withered away and died of cancer.
My best friend, JUST days ago lost her mother to liver disease after a 7 year long battle.

Both of them saw the raw, ugly, truth of a slow and painful death by terminal illness, up close and personal as their caregivers.
But the funny thing is, both of the ill ladies stayed around FAR longer than any MAN gave them hope for! No, it was wrong for him to take a life, no matter how noble his intentions. While I pray mercy on his soul, and wish him a sympathetic jury, I believe that he should face charges, just as anyone would when they have somehow prematurely ended the life of another.

  • darealwifey

@ Alrighty then…God’s law also says “judge not.” Now, the law of the land is quite different. Some people want you to use every measure available to extend their lives no matter what kind of unthinkable pain they might be in. Other people don’t want to live like that.

Part of this situation will involve whether the deceased asked to be put out of his misery. This is a tough thing. It is clear that this man has wanted to say this for a very long time because he just put it out there.

    Prayers for this man.

  • finemixedshorty

That must have been extremely hard for him to admit that. I will keep him in my prayers.

  • Alrighty Then… (Barbara Jordan)

@darealwifey – not judging, at all. To say he was wrong, is not being judgmental, IMO. It is simply fact, by either standard. Just saying that even though MY HEART weeps for him, that is really besides the point. I’m not aware of anywhere that mercy killings are legal, whether there was a pact or not.
Justice should have a chance to prevail, across the board. If he’s acquitted, I wouldn’t be mad at that either.

  • Mock Rock Star

No, if a person what’s to die then let them die. My grandmother is 95 years old and she has been in and out of the hospital for years and also stayed in a nursing home for a little while. When I came to visit sometime last year she was yet again in the hospital and she wouldn’t eat. She told my mother and other family members she wanted to die, but oh no…she can’t die until god says so…f*ckin idiots. They put a tube up in her so it would involuntarily feed her (which I wanted to unplug the machine and let her have some peace…but didn’t want to face jail time) and now she’s back out of the hospital in my mother’s care and my mother complains about being the only one who looks after her. My grandmother doesn’t want to be there, but she has no choice. This is yet another reason I feel as if “god’s” people are mentally challenged. A person wants to die, but foolish people keep them alive because it’s not their time yet…bullsh*t, if U want to die and are in pain or extremely old then let that person die. They are not going to hell (since there is no hell), their just leaving a painfully situation so that shouldn’t be against the law.

  • mangobee

That’s some straight Bullshit, and you all know it! Murder is murder.

    @Pharoah the Sun God

Darling are you having flashbacks of the little yellow bus passing you by as you stood on the lonely corner? Or is that the other children laughed at your helmet with the “Special” sign attached?
As cruel as that was, your statements are both cruel and incredibly callous. And for the record, a recent survey revealed that “stupidity” does indeed have a cure. You may want to consult with your physician.

Well to start with Gossling’s lover is not looking “down” on him. He is looking “up” cos all homosexuals go to hell.

Secondly, who is he to play GOD. That is one of the side effects of homosexuality. People who defy nature believe they have the power over life & death. The law should show him what’s up!!! Send the bugger to the gallows.

I was with my aunt in her last hours of a painful death from cancer. The hospice nurse told me if I accidentally gave my aunt too much medicine for her pain and my aunt expired that would be okay.

I didn’t do it – though I didn’t want to see my auntie in pain I am not God and it is not my right to take another person before their time – even if it is days, hours or moments before it would have happened naturally.

    So yes, it’s murder.

If God wanted Gosling’s lover to die a long, slow, painful death then he shouldn’t have left Gosling alone in the room with him. If God is omniscient, He must have known the result. If God is omnipotent, He could have prevented it. Therefore, the lover’s death at that time was part of God’s plan

If god is not omniscient, then He can make mistakes. If he can make mistakes, then we should probably question His plan because it is likely not perfect. Perhaps one of us can come up with a better plan. I don’t think His plan is working out so well.

And it’s not my point to argue religion today. The fact is, what this man did was illegal, period. There are no 2 ways about it. Feel however you want regarding religion (some of you non-believers are more hung up on religion than “Christians”), but the inarguable FACT is that mercy killings are illegal.

  • Sanjor

When there is absolutely nothing else the doctors can do and death is imminent, the patient is in acute pain, I think the doctors should give them something to let them die peacefully. This is hard for me to say as a mother, daughter, and aunt, but if my loved one begged me to let them die, I would try and honor their wishes.

What would YOUR suggestion be? Allow abortions, allow gay marriage, allow mercy killings, allow people to do just want they want? Do you actually prefer a hedonistic society over one with a semblance of order and regulation?
And personally, I don’t believe there will EVER be change, because the population at large will continue to resist. Mostly, it will be folks wasting their breath…

  • The New Dawn

This man is obviously feeling some kind of guilt over what he did…he is coming out years later telling this story. If he really felt good about what he did then he would have had piece of mine with the fact that he was keeping it to himself.

Those things U mention are not hedonistic so please stop. Things that I think should stay the same are laws against:
    Involuntary murder
    Child Abuse
    Child molestation
    Battery
and that’s all I can think of at the moment

  • Alrighty Then… (Barbara Jordan)

    @Mock –
Didn’t intend to say that those things in particular are hedonistic, but moreso that a society w/o laws/regulations would absolutely become a corrupt and hedonistic place.

So the only things that you would leave in the hands of the “law” are murders, assaults and child predators/abusers?
    wow… ok.
Do you follow Aleister Crowley (do what thou wilt) teachings?

I did some research. The Rockefeller foundation is a charitable organization. It does help with funding some programs on the BBC and on U.S. Public television. That does not mean that they own the station. Not all programs on these networks receive funding from this particular organization. If you go on the Rockefeller foundation website, you can apply for a grant. You could get your hands on some of that Illuminati money, Somali.
