Hovvy on the Hood Life

Posted by Bossip Staff

Jay-Z explains the hood life:

‘I think it’s more important for me to be in touch with who I am than in touch with the streets, per se,’ he says. ‘Being in touch with the streets, keeping it real, that’s become a lie and a cliche. I’m not hanging on the corner in the Bed-Stuy. I hate it when rappers say, “I’m keeping it ‘hood.” I’m like, “Why? What do you mean? No one’s there by choice! You’re in the hood, by choice?”‘

Bling he feels was misinterpreted by the media as tasteless showing off, when really it was a celebration of success by people who had enjoyed precious little of that before. ‘These people came from nothing,’ he says. ‘No-thing. The bottom. And when they got money and cars and houses it was a party. Like, us being here, at the Lanesborough, eating caviar? That just didn’t happen before. Why not celebrate that?’

  7. shesofine

That’s real nigga rap right there!

  8. Madmax-2099

Oh please this message should have been said 12 years ago…I swear black people are the only ppl who will celebrate a man finally maturing after 30+ years of living. I knew that keeping it real shit was a joke when i was a teen. Jay is only saying these things cause he knows that he can’t say the things he was saying throughtout his 20s & 30s. I give more props for a young man saying this in his late teens & early 20s.

  9. …so is camel saying that Foxy was too hood?

This low down dirty UGLY ass pimp…is a SELL OUT!

  20. Mainstay

Anyway back on topic. The Only reason he dropped AG was to get back to the streets without being critized for it. So Most likely any album he drop is going to be a concept album.

1st of All Jay has NEVER been in the streets like he claim per se but he does have a point

As Black People we all need to stop being so damn gulliable. i swear to god. yall keeping it real, keeping it hood. living in poverty eating peanut butter and sardines, two to the head and foot of a bed, roaches and rats, filthy living conditions, no food aid and welfare all you got. motherfucking living off social security income and crazy checks, living off welfare and public assistance, being a hoodrat, prostitute hoe or a crackhead, drug dealer, pimp or a gangsta, kids idolize you on the wrong thing instead of teaching them righht and the schools teaching white european curriculm and not teaching them about who their real identies are. are you fucking kidding me. who wants to live like that.

but then having the flyest whips, cars, houses, caviar (which you nasty for eating salthy fish eggs with yo ghetto cracker eating ass instead of a ritz cracker hahaha)

  32. BeReal

I agree with his commens, I think one reason 2Pac got killed is he was always going back to the hood. Once you reach a certain level everybody is not happy about it and jealousy makes people crazy.

As far as the jewelry some of it is okay but we have to learn to be more financially smart. Make the money and don’t let the money make us. so if you never make another album you will still be comfortable.

LOVE YOU JAY!! AND YOU ARE SO RIGHT ON. GROW PAST THAT STUPIDITY GOT DAMMIT!

  56. NCBrotha

Jay is saying something of substance, and some of you dumbasses can only focus on his clothes or looks. Who cares if Jay was “real”, you dummies (like Detroit Meeko) are going to get enough of keeping it “real”. What does being a “boss” get you? It gets you 25 to life. You need to wake up, grow up, educate yourself, and make something out of yourself.

And when did being “in the streets” become something to be proud of? You act like that shit is badge of honor!

  57. DR.FUNK

    “KEEPING IT REAL”…”STAYIN’ ‘HOOD”

    Pure comedy.Always has been.

lmaoooo you are an ass lol too funny

    @ Meeko

i was going to defend BK but what is the point we would be going back and forth with shit that doesnt matter. a hood is a hood period! one isnt doing any better than the other it is a fucked up place no matter how real it is

  59. Just Sayin

Would some body please put on Rihanna’s song Umbrella?

    Keep rockin it bay bra!

    :-)

  60. RaphaelK

I understand what jay was saying but didnt he just release a vanity album claiming he was an American Gangster Jay just needs to retire now enough is enough already i liked you so much at a point of time but i think ever since he got with beyonce he hasnt been the same

  61. blaq

You know I am really glad J said what he said, I am sick and tired of rappers feeling they can only be taken seriously or be successful if they are from the hood in the streets, still committing crimes even though they don’t have too. I feel as though that is a slap in the face to the ppl who live that life due to lack of choices. Look at rick ross who is denying he had a job as a correctional officer, when he did. So what that he was a correctional officer he was making a living and considering the length of his employment, it probley wasn’t for him, why is that something to be ashamed of unless you were telling a bunch of lies to fit in. If I were worth $350million I would only go to the hood if I had to or if I was giving back to the less fortunate. Now J there is a reason to return to the ghetto, to improve it, you were blessed with success so you can encourage success from others.

  62. GO GETTA

When you reach that type of status you can’t go to the Hood like that. THE HOOD WILL TAKE YOU UNDER. These niggas are hungry and will do anything to survive. At least my hood is like that. I do believe in not forgetting where you’re from and giving back. Most black people make it and forget to pull another person up.

I WAS LOST ONCE BUT A OLDER BLACK BUSINESSMAN FROM THE BURBS GAVE ME AN OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO COLLEGE FOR FREE. I TOOK THE OPPORTUNITY AND MADE SURE I DIDN’T DISAPPOINT HIM. WAS A STAR STUDENT/ATHELETE AND NOW A SUCCESSFUL PERSON. HE SAVED MY LIFE.

  63. glok9n

THATZ WHEN YOU KNOW YOU MADE IT BIG…..THAT NIGGA JAY KNOW HE A UGLY NIGGA AND THAT PPL CALL HIM A CAMEL OR JAY CAMEL ….BUT LOOK AT WHAT HE GOT AND WHO HE GOT…..MAN IM OUT, FUK THIS, IM TOO HIGH TO TYPE …SEE YALL NEXT WEEK! GOD BLESS YALL!

  64. And...

I was trying to avoid posting this…

I really want him to shut the hell up.

At this day and age and this late in the game…people that need to know – know.

Do folk realize when they’ve reached the point of not having to explain?

    Who are you explaining to?

Shut the hell up man. Learn when to smile & know when to shut the fk up?

He tries to act like he doesn’t but he talks to much.

Hursh the fk. We get it. People in the streets get it, fans get it…it’s the press and media that don’t get it or don’t get enough of it.

  65. glok9n

@IJM! LOVE YOU SISTA, YOU HAVE A BLESSED WKND!

  66. @jUST SAYIN: I was LOL! when I read that shit gonna get some crabs! I was like WTF! but I knew what you meant!LOL!

WORD TO THE WISE, A HOOD IS FUCKED UP NO MATTER WHAT, WHAT IS THE BIG IDEA ABOUT ONE BEING TOUGHER THAN THE OTHER ONE! THIS IS SOME IGNORANT SHIT I’M READING! CHANGE YOUR GODDAMMN LIVES ALREADY! GROW THE FUCK UP PEOPLE! DAMN!

  67. ~~~~@MOJOJO & IJM: WAAAAZZZZ GOODDDIE PEOPLE? HAPPY FRIDAY!

  68. And...

He should have just not said nothing and left them at hello. He lost me right here:

    “Jay-Z explains the hood life”

    Really?

Why do people want him to explain it anyway?

  69. chico

Wow are we really fighting on here about who hood is more hood…GTFOH…A hood is a hood same ish goes on in the BK as I’m sure that goes on in other hoods…drug dealing, killings, gangs etc..I’ve been to too many hoods from BK, Bronx, LA, Miami and they are all the same…I wouldn’t want to live in any hood and if i had money like Jay damn right you wouldn’t catch me still trying to kick it in the hood to stay real…for what? If anything showing people that you can come up and get out is better then just going there and hanging out…

  70. And...

    @KZZMERG….

“A HOOD IS FUCKED UP NO MATTER WHAT, WHAT IS THE BIG IDEA ABOUT ONE BEING TOUGHER THAN THE OTHER…”

Thanks for saying that…my sentiments exactly.

  71. riiiiiight

*silently thanking the Lord that both my parents were college educated*

  72. ***** ( AKA BITCH 2 the LION)

I love it when rapper stop with the b.s and just tell it like it is. I don’t particularly care for rap music but I much respect for thos doing it cuz I know they came from nothing. I like how Jay put this and I got mad respect for him for that

    @And…

    What’s up?

  73. Fire

somebody tell this fool to shut the hell up! Point taken u don’t want to live in those conditions…but does he realize that he capitalized and glorified things that went on in the hood…(even though it wasn’t him doing the action)…then, snaked his way to the top(cutthroat hood tactics)….this fool just looked at black in america and realized how silly some of these people look…sooo, he’s no longer there and u are…he’s even going to throw it in your face by saying that he’s eating fish eggs now while you’re still eating beef patties….such a WANGSTA!

  74. @ NC Brotha and Go Getta, i like and agree with what you guys said, you dont have to forget where you came from and when you reach a well established status you can give back and truly make a difference in an unfortunate’s life, but there is no need to be hood or hang out in the hood, just to prove what? unless he is bullet proof cause where i am from he could not hang out in the “hood” they would rob and kill him just because. the day our black men and women wake up to reality and sleep on ignorance is the day we will prevail.

  75. CUTIE PIE

I partially agree with jay..but I hate when rappers say I din’t have it so now that I do i’m going to buy it..they wouldn’t want it if it wasn’t glamorized on T.V. and if the people that had it didn’t look so damn happy.

  76. dc-va

hov must have forgot he got paid by telling stories about how he stills hustle and he must forget he said he will never ever ever ever change. Yep some people are in the hood by choice in 2008, mabey not in 88, but in 2088 the hood sings a different song.

  77. MissBlaze43

    @ NCBrotha

I feel you on that. It’s just a shame that the young brothers and sisters don’t get that. They just Don’t. They REALLY think its cool to walk around with their damn pants down around their thighs. The females REALLY think its cool to walk around with tattoos on their damn NECKS!! It’s not sexy, it’s not cute and they do it because they have no intentions of EVER bettering themselves because they were tricked into believeing that some of these rappers REALLY WANTED A GANGSTER BOO. Yet when you look at those same Rapper’s Wives, they don’t look nothing like Gangster Boos. They look DECENT and take care of the HOMES AND KIDS while their husbands are making that money. NOW, I admit that some of them might sleep with ya’ll while they on the road, BUT YOU’LL NEVER BE WIFEY!!! Not looking like that.

And the Men: I thought it was already established that when ya’ll wear your pants down low that you’re really saying to that OTHER GUY that yeah, I’m ready you can “dick me down”. My pants are already low enough for “easy access to that ass”.

Well, we can go on and on, but the fact remains – WE’RE ALREADY DOOMED AS A SOCIETY!!!

  78. He We Go again

First of all a lot of ya’ll idiots dont’ know the difference between hood & proverty. I hate when people on the internet call themselves giving true information about the HOOD but sound so far of it. You never seen a hood, if you don’t know there is two side to every story. There is not just one lifestyle in the hood, or just VOILENCE, and BROKE ASS HOODRATS and DRUG DEALERS, you got a lil bit of everything in the hood, people with degree’s are in the hood. The hood is basicly any city where the majority of black folks live, because wherever we live we bring voilence, so we destroy good neighborhoods & turn them into hoods. The hood is not just the PROJECTS.

  79. Meeko From Detroit

in his imaginary mind he still hustles

in his imaginary mind, he still tell other people tales or what he saw or personally seen himself and maybe making up the shit as he goes along

you can be from the hood, but you dont have to live like it

some niggas be lying cause the old heads would NEVER tell you what they do. thats sworn under secrecy

my daddy told me, real niggas never talk about what they do. they just do it. Jay Z is a talker. this niggga aint never held up a rock in his life unless he was holding somebody elses rock (oops did i just say that)

i still love his freestyle business sense

  80. CUTIE PIE

let me also say that I personally hate the hood. People like to say that its culture when really its a damn mess. I came down on that black in america special that came on but come to think of it they really needed to focus on the bad just so we could feel ashamed and embarrased and fix it.

  81. He We Go again

some of ya’ll are so stuck in the 80’s. Black people need upgrade from that. & some of ya’ll might bragg like you so out the hood, and you just one pay check from it or a mile away from the city zone. It’s a lot of people who THINK they are out the hood but they are not. Like people in the burbs arent on section 8 and public housing. It’s easier to get section 8 and public housing in suburbs than cities. Everybody who live past the city line dont’ got it made. some of ya’ll who down the hood are prolly in it and don’t even know it. The hood isnt nothing but a NEIGHBORHOOD, but because it’s a majority minoirty neighborhood, with a proverty rate and crime rate surrounding it, or in the percentage of the NEIGHBORHOOD, people describe it as HOOD.

  82. MissBlaze43

My man, Ice Cube, said it best – back when he WAS in his late 20’s / early 30’s:

Hell yeah I moved my wife and kids out of the hood. Why would I keep my family in South Central? So somebody could kidnap them talking about “I want some money, I got your wife, I got your kids.”

  83. Meeko From Detroit

and what hoods yall are from. i know motherfuckers who live in nice homes and their houses are clean and efficient. like i said earlier, unless you been to detroit and traveled around the whole city without being shot at or robbed, you aint been in this hood here….

and especially ride around belle isle thinking you sweet or nickel slick and the apes over here would snatch you out your ride or blow your brains out on the dashboard one or the other.

women and children are even assulted here. so what does that tell you about a whole hood. trick daddy got his ass beat here, lil jon incited a riot in 2003 cause motherfuckers got too hyped up with that “move bitch or that i dont give a fuck song” and then you have to call your government cause the cops wont show up here to your house if you got burgulars trying to clean you out,

  84. He We Go again

Cutie pie, we already are ashamed of it and feel bad, thats why people are selling drugs killing and prosituting trying to get out the hood. Stop puttin pressure on people to get out and put pressure on them to get morals, knowledge, education and understanding. Runnin out the hood won’t solve their problems if they take baggage with them. Thats why the world fucked up everybody trying to get out the hood and dyin, catching diseases, and killin ppl to do it. Thats the damn problem. The solution, is teach the youth to fix up the damn hood and make it a better place again. The whole hood isnt going to get out, thats unrealistic thinking.

  85. Meeko From Detroit

every city has a hood or a notoriuous urban area but WE BLACK PEOPLE are the ones who provide the violence and crime. selling drugs, gangbanging on some dumb shit, not protecting one another, or our families, talkig back at our elders, not whippping our children, not being on the block loud with a 40 ounce and a blunt in your hand, not the girls trying to jump on somebody cause its fun and they dont have anything else to do but keep up drama. it sucks.

and then if you in the hood, your doing anything you can to get out of the hood cause thats where your making your mind up that you either wanna get the fuck out or you wanna stay here trapped.

  86. BIGGIEBIGS

kick in the door waving the 44, real niggaz do real thingz………

  87. Erica

His outfit would be on point without the jacket.

  88. He We Go again

Thanks meeko, they act like everybody in the hood is living unlavish, however the hood is just when your STREETS are tough, it’s not always a place where ever is broke and starving. it’s a place where a mixture of things happen.

  89. MissBlaze43

What rapper was it that said, “Fool, I can roll through any ‘hood from Central to Webster Avenue without my glock.”

I think Be-Real said that foolishness. THEY WILL ROB YOUR DUMB ASS.

  90. Meeko From Detroit

I live in the hood today. just the other day it was a ruckus outside of my apt building over some dumb shit. people was drunk off segrams 100 proof and was talking bullshit and one thing lead to another. they got loud and started arguing and then a shouting match ensured. then the nigga pushed the man on the ground and he got back up and swung on the boy. instead of them duking it out and getting it out their system. the boy goes back and pulls a gun on the man and he started shooting. both of the niggas worked together in the streets. dosent make no sense.

  91. He We Go again

However think realiticly THE WHOLE HOOD ISNT GOING TO MOVE, so somethingelse need to be said other than telling ppl TO GET OUT. Thats unrealistic. Black people got it twisted, after we all move from the hood to the burbs..then what???

  92. He We Go again

& meeko think about this if those same kinda people move to the burbs the same thing would happen, so it’s not the LOCATION.

  93. Meeko From Detroit

    Big Boi said:

cant feed your people off that dope money forever. it may not always be sufficient

but that job at the U.S.P.S turned you down cause you tested for “cloudy piss”

so now you back in the trap, TRAPPED. let that marinate for a second.

  94. He right ..tell em Jay!

  95. He We Go again

For all ya’ll smart people who give advice telling EVERYONE TO GET OUT THE HOOD. You do realize that includs the CRIMINALS dont you. So your just saying that CRIME NEED TO RELOCATE…we need a better SOLUTION.

  96. He We Go again

& meeko let this marinate, if you move to the burbs and you don’t change your still trapped in the trap.

  97. hazer

ugly mofo, wow he’s 40 and people are saying this is mature? damn when was he supposed to have come up with this at 50. some black people are just morons sometimes. I would be impressed if it was said by soulja boy.wow at the time it takes people to become enlightened. next week this moron camel and others will think he is einstein.

  98. White Guy

Meeko From Detroit, why hasn’t yo niggas robbed your computer yet?

  99. He We Go again

I think some of ya’ll got getting out the hood mixed up with GETTING FREE…..!!!

  100. Mainstay

    And those Jimmy Iovine Shades

Bossip Cocksuckers move in the burbs and then it becomes the same ole thing. just that white people wouldnt accept that shit and then they wanna say racism cause you cant blast your music in your car loud as hell on the block late till 2AM and get loud spewing the nigga this and nigga that and yall get rambunctious. and then it dosent make it any better the white people more ghetto than we are….thats just fucked up. at least the white people have sense of when to hang. black people wanna do it over the fucking limit all of the time.

Plus touch on how we always the one doing hood shit in the suburbs. but once we get some money, we wanna act too siddity or we get called “Bougie”

a motherfucking friend of mine called me “Bougie” cause i preferred Grey Goose or the Top Shelf Liquor than some nasty ass E&J V.S.O.P. or Paul Masson. and if it was white liquor. Smirnoff or Stoli…..nope Grey Goose or Belevedere. Ciroc or the lowest i would go is Pinnacle Vodka or Segrams extra smooth 100 proof plantium or the flavored one.

isnt that a bitch you get called bougie cause you want better for yourself. and my friend dont keep shit like i do, he gives it up to his baby mama and his weed smoking and clothes buying. still acting hood.

  105. Meeko From Detroit

cause white guy. i am at work. and we have a tracker. let one dumb motherfucker try to do anything. they better get that asshole massaged early…….

  111. He We Go again

Miss Blaze u got it twisted, it’s just as many working people in the hood as it in the burbs, and it’s more people on section 8 & welfarein the burbs these days, cause everybody get their voucher and move to the burbs. So stop thinking the hood/inner city, is the only place carryin these disease. Until you making serious money and living in atleast a house thats close to a mil, your not doing it big. STop thinking you on the level of these rappers. These entertainers are out the hood forreal they are REALLY DOING IT, they not in some little medicore suburb paying 750 a month for a basic townhouse one pay check from the streets talking shit. A lot of ya’ll sit high on the horse, but if you really evaulate your life your not doing no better than people who live in the hood/inner city. You just live in a county/burb, where the same shit is going on. & I use to work for the state/social service, Iknow a lot about the system, THERE ARE GROWING NUMBERS OF PEOPLE ON SECTION 8 and WELFARE, it the SUBURBS, because everybody get their VOUCHER and move in the burbs. So unless you somewhere near the hamptons STFU.

Everybody in the hood is on section 8 and welfare, and everybody in the suburbs isnt middle class..thats so 1971 your behind with your information

  112. Jaye

I agree with Hovvy whole heartedly. People are taking this “keepin it real” bull way too far! How are you in the hood “keeping it real” once you’ve got a couple mil in the bank?!?!? I get wanting to keep the connection to where you’ve come from, but coming up in the hood leaves an impression on you, experiences that you can never forget or outlive. An authentic experience in the hood never fades, you don’t have to STAY there to remember and keep that connection. Like he said, no one is in the hood by choice…. And if they are they have SERIOUS issues. The only reason you should be in the hood once you’ve made it is to give back, not to keep perpetuating the stereo types that have kept us there for so long. Why can’t the media exemplify quotes like these?

Love you for shedding spotlight on this one Bossip!

    -Jaye ;-)

    happy friday family

  115. Beyonce

Just to clarify, I DID NOT GET THIS NIGGA THAT OUTFIT!!!!!

  116. He We Go again

typo’s but you get the point, everybody in the hood isnt on seciton 8 and welfare and everybody in the burbs isnt middle class.

These rappers are way out the hood they not in some medicore suburb talking shit. If you don’t live near the hamptons STFU.

  117. EIEIO

There’s this nigga in Canarsie who keeps a Phantom, G wagon, E class coupe, E class 4 door and a M3 in his garage. Wat up wit that?

  118. as seen on t.v. (R.I.P. K-Swift)

And it’s very ignorant for people to assume that only black people are the ones on Section 8 and welfare…Are you kidding me!!!!…When I go to the grocery store and I pull out cash…The white woman in front of me has a cart full and an independence card in her hand…

  119. CUTIE PIE

    @here we go again

I agree people shouldn’t run away from the hood because it is a problem..the damn issue is that they don’t see it as a problem. Don’t even lie..how many times have you heard people in the ghetto say we don’t want anything to change? I’m tired of smelling piss in the damn hallway and seeing graffiti on walls people in the ghetto do not have respect for the place they live and its really a shame because they are the first one’s to demand respect.

  120. Meeko From Detroit

before i leave everyone today cause i am going to party down and do it big

everybody aint keeping it real. what the fuck where that expression come from. nobody wants to live like their broke and in poverty. that lets me know that black people dont want shit at all but disgustment and shambalism

but when black people make it out the hood and do better for themselves, they get called a sellout or bougie cause we acting all high and mighty

you know its something when the white people are applying for more food aid, and more welfare and public assistance. i dont know about this yall but i think the times is changing

like black people take rock and roll and alternative and the white people getting into hip hop, rap and r&b. what the fuck is a trend is setting on here.

and then there are some people who dont wanna change or make an effort. they feel safe in the hood.

so on this note, i am gone to my apartment with my nice air conditioning, sitting on my 3,500 leather couch, eating my 25 dollar hamburgers and about to cook me some Omaha steaks. and then i will drink some armadale officially because of what Jay-Z said on today

he finally set my soul free

see you monday peoples…. live life and prosper. god bless.

  121. bria

You don’t have too live near the Hampton’s to be doing well in life. I think what he is saying is that there no honor in not trying too better yourself in life and accomplish all that you can. I think that most of these men out here selling drugs don’t realize there full potential. They are already running corporations. If they could find something that they can put their talents in for good they would make more money and don’t always have to worry about getting shot.

  122. White gGuy

she’s building credit while you are building nothing….. end of story

  123. He We Go again

A lot of people full of pride need to shut the fuck up, stop thinking you make a rappers salary, if you live anywhere near where people on section 8 can move, you have not made it. These rappers can talk they are waaaay in the suburbs, not on the city/county border line with a small house behind the tree. Truth be told as a people black people are failing nomatter where we move. We take that ignorant hood mentality with us, and the murderrate and crime is following us wherever we go. The solution to everything is MOVE. Thats not the solution WE HAVE MOVED, and we still not free, we just make wherever we MOVE the HOOD.

  124. GO GETTA

    @ Keeping It Cool

Nice to know that are some black folks that aren’t sleeping out here. This shit is about to get ugly out here. Mutha fuckas better either keep up or get left out. The middle class is vanishing folks. You either gonna be the Have’s or the Have Not’s.

  125. Jack Tripper

Man I agree with a couple of yaw’ll on many levels:Here we go..,Fire, Meeko,Dc-VA..I mean people gots some valid points about the hood. I mean HOOD-Esque activity goes on in the subs so there are hoods EVERYWHERE just because one may not walk out and see Junie(the crack head) outside their door don’t mean sinister shyt don’t happen when one walks outside and see a freakin flower gardern. It’s all bullshyt POVERTY/GHETTO is VERY different and many of us aint on that poverty shyt now or our asses wouldn’t freakin be on some website posting our opionion because we got too much other shyt to worry about than the next nukka! We would be trying to raise up and get some where.

My thing with Jay though I FEEL what he is saying we all did shady shyt growing up we can’t glorify but come on dude that same shyt YOU MADE MILLIONS off of now you hold your nose high about it? A real nukka don’t even have to explain himself he just DOES it. You leaving that type of game leave then! Why speak? Guilty conscious trying to justify ones self but true G’s don’t owe the street shyt! NO EXPLANATIONS!

It’s all good everybody got some hood in em’ or surrounding them it’s about how you maintain it.

But HERE WE GO AGAIN said it at its best>>>”if you move to the burbs and you don’t change your still trapped in the trap.”

@ Meeko: you aint never lied about the D though I got robbed there last year freakin’ son’s of bitches..lol (it’s all good though they just got a credit card nothing out of my pocket)

  126. CUTIE PIE

Well I’m done with WORK which means i’m done dealing with the ignorence on here. Until next week peeps..

  127. CUTIE PIE

  133. Dark&Lovely

just peakin in…..You all are crackin me up…as usual. But I do agree with J.

  134. He We Go again

bria what I’m trying to explain, EVERYONE IS NOT ALIKE. It’s unrealitic to think the WHOLE HOOD WILL MOVE. Thats sound crazy and just think about how CRIME will follow and the murder rate will travel. if you took every soul out the hood right now and put them in the hamptons the hamptons wouldnt be a high class neighborhood anymore, because the hood folk will run the place down and do the same things they do there they do in the hood.

The reason why the hamptons is a good place to live, is because the mentality of the people. if that mentality change it will no longer be SAFE. So whats so wrong about having a solution that black people need to change their thinking and make their communities a BETTER PLACE, instead of running to a differnt COMMUNITY with the same destructive mentality?…

Just to share experience, being from the hood, my first thoughts to getting out when I was young was to do it the FAST WAY MAKE FAST MONEY. However those dreams was demolished as I saw people constanlty die, I went the right path and got legal money working a job, and legal hustles. However I never made a million dollars to be set for life. Therefore I’m just a person who work paycheck 2 paycheck with a lil saving in the bank. Why go above my means and live a lifestyle I can’t afford and go broke? Thats not smart at all. A lot of people do it and they wind up broke, living beyond their means. Then people get mad when you live in your means. Whats wrong with that. Mabey that all that person you judging can afford. Mabey they are working on inbettering themselves but havent reach the main goal. People may be in college but they are broke living in the hood until they find their dream job. Somebody could be living their saving up their savings so they can get what they really want, instead of spending all their savings on something they can’t afford to IMPRESS THE JONES’S.

Why get mad at someone who live in the hood decent and assume they using tax payers money cause they live in the hood. Have it every cross your mind they live in their means? THey got a house they can AFFORD, so they are able to go to the mall and buy clothes they like and keep themselves up well. Why go buy a house you can’t afford then wind up in the damn street. Thats not smart at all I don’t see sense in it.

WHy you think it so many drug dealers? they thin k they going to make enough money to get out the hood but get trapped in the system and can’t get out.

Everybody dont’ got the rap game in their city. I think ya’ll think everybody in the hood got big chances to get out. These rappers are LUCKY NIGGA’s. If it wasnt FOR HIPHOP they would still be in the PROJECTS or most of them in JAIL. However other cities may not got that type of opportunity for everyone in the hood to flip their hustle into something positive, so these men get caught up into trappin, until they can’t move because they fucked up their life and record TRYING TO GET OUT THE HOOD.

Yet people knock them when they sell drugs but knock them if they work a job and can’t AFFORD TO LIVE in the burbs because they dont’ make enough. You don’t know whats in anyones pockets and it’s not your place to judge why somebody isnt out the hood, cause it could be various reasons.

& don’t confuse GREED with being the best you can be, it takes time to get what you want, and these rappers are blessed people because they were able to get it young because of where lived during that time, they had a option to change their life, everybody dont’ have the same options.

all I’m saying is WAKE UP PPL…. 10% of black people are living like RAPPERS. and the other percentage think they are FREE but really they are not, and the other percentage isnt really out the hood they just 1 mile away from the city line talking shit!

  135. Tammy

I think some people say they keep it hood because they do not have enough money to get out the hood. Let’s say there was no more music and acting for minorities how many of them would not live in the hood. They would be living just like the average black folks. The entertainment business is the only occupation thats keeping most black folks living lavish. The other 40- 50% are probably selling drugs. 5- 10% are average working people living lavish. If Jay Z didn’t sell drugs back in the days and selling record now where would he be. REAL TALK

  136. g

what book did you copy that shit from?

  137. Tyrome

Why can’t black people do things like go to space or be a chef or do plastic surgery? You will never see a black person do these things!!!!!!?>>>?

  138. John Lego got the same jacket on a few pics down….

  139. <<<<< 5% right here….

  140. Meso

Keeping it real.. if an artist raps about weight, coke, the block he is speaking of his experiences and what he sees on the streets-thats keeping it hood, nothing wrong with celebrating your success. But Jay Z needs to keep it real, if he aint dealing coke no more, then why is he still referencing it, those days are over.. as he said its about eating cavier in Europe, rockin LV, thats real talk and I can NOT relate.

  141. He We Go again

I think thats black people problem. We watch b.e.t and we all think we can afford that shit, go out your means and wind up broke at the end. Some of ya’ll might think you made it but you really didnt. Don’t front get it forreal. I rather stay in the hood in a house I can afford, than leave and can’t afford my house and wind up bankrupt. It’s all about saving money 2 me, not where I live. IF I got money in the bank thats what count, or atleast enough to live decent.

Why go out your means and live poor like someone in the projects cause you can’t afford your rent. Don’t make no damn sense to me.

& congrats to my brothers and sisters who made it out, but the truth.com is, EVERYONE WILL NOT MAKE IT OUT, it’s unrealistic, so the goal should be lets take it back to square 1 and clean up these ranned down communities. These rap boys and dope boys should put MONEY BACK IN THE PPLS HAND, and back in their communities. Why can’t the hood have good schools. Why should we have to move tot he suburbs to have good schools.

C back in the day we use to fight to have good schools in our communities, we fought to have the same things the whites had in the burbs in our neighborhoods, but now we fight to move where they are. We leave our neighborhoods desituted and forsake our ppl when we get rich, taunt them and brag instead of building up our communities.

I want to be set in life in real way not a flossin way. yep I got money and I’m in the hood, and until I get major money I’m not moving out. Make no sense to go pay high ass rent near the hamptons when I can’t afford that shit. I dont’ want to be living in a good neighborhood like I’m in the pj’s. Until I C a rappers pay check it’s the hood I stay.

  142. The Grundle

You know what I saw in the grocery today in my neighborhood? An ostrich egg. A FUCKING OSTRICH EGG. In all my years living in the HOOD, I never saw an ostrich egg. I defy any of you to find me an ostrich egg in the hood. You know what I did not find in the grocery? QUARTER WATER aka “Bum Juice.”

I’m with Jay 100% on this one. FUCK THE HOOD. I’m sooooooooo glad I made it out. AND I didn’t have to rap or work on my jump shot to get out either. Just sat my ass down and STUDIED. Then GOT A JOB. THEN WORKED MY ASS OFF 12+ hours daily.

Shieeeettt, if you EVER see my black ass anywhere close to the hood it is simply because I’m lost.

FUCK THE HOOD. FUCK THE HOOD. FUCK THE HOOD.

  143. He We Go again

Tammy real shit thats what I’m saying if it wasnt for the rap game most of them wouldnt have made it out. They should feel blessed, not taunt the hood, but feel blessed that GOD made a way from them to imbetter themselves. However everyone in the hood isnt broke bums, thats a misconception.

  144. g

What if you are the jigga and its your aunt’s bday coming up but the partys at her house………… in the hood. Would you go or would you diss your aunt just like all them other bitches???

  145. GO GETTA

I hate to say it but Jay is right. THE HOOD is a mentality. Anyone can make it out of the HOOD, you just have to be on determined to let nothing stop you. Besides a bullet!!! When I find myself going back to the HOOD those instincts kick in with a quickness. I choose not to live there anymore because I like to sleep soundly without one eye open and a hand on the nine. But believe me if I had be HOOD I can be just as vicious as these mutha fuckers out here today. It’s a part of who I am.

  146. Erocs

  150. Somer

Tupac & Biggie kept it HOOD.

  151. blackgirl

Jay is definitely right but I must say it is funny how these rappers get common sense AFTER reaching 30 and messing up these young, weak-minded kids because 15 years ago he and others weren’t saying that. But, now, after it is obvious that age 30 on down is complete screwed up mainly the black race,…..NOOOOWWWW you come with some sense. I remember years ago, I heard folks saying that…that constant display of “bling” was not good. So now, you got a bunch of kids running around trying to make money fast and illegal in the name of keeping it real. They are not becoming the Jay-z or lil wayne. They are becoming jailbirds by the thousands who can’t get no job afterwards…..Hey…but jayz did tell the truth there!

  152. Trini Chica BK (AKA) As a matter of Fact

Ya DAMN Real…If you’re a broka azz rapper, yes you can hang in the hood, but when you’re making real money, no you cannot hang in the hood. Simple English…Jay is Boss…

  153. The Bear

I am thinking thinking that if those who come up out the hood and become successful were more willing and eager to reach back and help to give the younger generation a sense of hope rather than senselessly ‘flossing’ there wealth and trying their damnest to forget where they came from CNN might not be able to portray us with that ‘mess’ I witnessed last night.

I’m not just singling out rappers, I’m talking about everyone. You probably would not be where you are today if it wasn’t for where you come from.

Anybody want to tell me where Jay-z’s music career would be if it wasn’t for the ‘hood’? And who’s better qualified to help strugglers to get up on their feet than someone who’s been there and became a success? George W. Bush???

  154. Max

What is going on! Jay-Z glorifies that shit!

What a fucking hypocrite! My parents worked their asses off so we could have a better life. Some OF the folks I went to school with acted liked they didn’t have home training it was like they were from a different world BUT most did not they had the same mannerism as I did, the said grace before they ate, and excuse me and thank you and we are friends to this day, most people who are LESS FORTUNATE and born into situations out of their control have to remember that YOU can always get out, YOU have A talent no matter how big or small you can do it, try to better themselves you know what I am talking about, that’s what we all had in common we STUCK together and WE ALL MADE IT! Our parents GOAL for US to do better than they did….. You know what I am talking about. Even in my neighborhood the folks next door were borrowing sugar SHIT! 95% OF FOLKS FROM THE HOOD OR IS IN THE HOOD RIGHT NOW DOES NOT WANT TO BE THERE!!!!! YOU KNOW THAT SHIT JAY-Z! 155. INOCENTbiSTANDR

Can’t really blame him, hell ppl who live in the hood want to get out so why should he want to go back. Only dumbasses or should I say ignorant, don’t know no better ppl want to keep running back. It shouldn’t matter WHEN it hit him to stay away, as long as it did. He finally got it, alot of ppl NEVER get it. You can reach back and help WITHOUT actually going back.

  156. Natasha

He is 100% correct! That is a grown man speaking right there. I NEVER want to go back to the hood; only if I am visiting or volunteering in the community baby!!!!

  157. The Bear

I just don’t understand how one gets rich talking about what happens in the hood and then once he makes it to the mountain top tries to forget about the hood.

I’m not saying you should continue glorifying the evils that happen in the hood but you have a responsibility to use your wealth to improve conditions for mankind.

Bill Gates and Warren Buffet are currently competing to see who can give more of their fortunes to help the poor and you mean to tell me you can’t help the brothers still stuck sellin dope on the same corner you so famously claim to have worked back in the day?

To whom much is given, much is expected…

    I’m just sayin…

  158. hOTdAMN

Jay, you are too damn old to be sagging…seriously. If your off the streets, making millions, heading companies…please dress like a man with a plan and not a boy with a toy. Your an Icon, not an ion, please lead the way.

  159. The Bear

We are focusing on the wrong thing. Its not about “getting out” of the hood. Our target has to be to TRANSFORM the hood into a functional and safe community that nurtures and brings the best out of its seed.

Whoaa *I just had a Barack moment*

  160. The Bear

    @ The Grundle

Ok, So there’s people in your new nieghborhood that like to eat Ostrich eggs. Soo???

Is there another race of people on the planet more self-centered yet self-hating than we are. If we really loved ourselves and each other and respected God the hood would be the sweetest place to reside in this whole world. Hoods are already usually located on the best real estate; conveniently close to the business centers. Why do you think the city was built there in the first place???? Cause its the best land!!!

  161. mizz_undastood

    @Bear

Unfortunately thats easier said than done. People have been making attempts to transform the hood for years. Not happening anytime soon. The ‘hood’ is just another one of society’s issues that will continue to be over-looked. I’m in Houston- and what they consider ‘transforming’ the hood out here is building a new park or a new school in the area and labeling it MLK as if that’s going to bring about any kind of change to the community. So sad, but true.

For the dumbasses…Jay’s been saying this shit for years now. This one is just being published because it was in a recent interview that he did before and after the Glastonbury concert and the guy ASKED HIM about it.

  163. mizz_undastood

    @ Queen Dee

I guess you deserve a round of applause because you read his comments before everyone else. Take a bow.

  164. Spud In Da N. O.

    @ Meeko

All that head running you did about the “D”, you told on yourself….The “D” didn’t go real hard till New Orleans Evacuees got there, ergo the REAL Hood Nukkas MUST be from New Orleans! Unfortunately, I have to agree with you. New Orleans is hard. It is dangerous. It is hood. Folks get it how they living in New Orleans. How do I know this? Because I live in New Orleans and I am tired of seeing my brothas dying behind dumb shit. Innocent people getting killed behind dumb shit. Being hood ain’t what one should aspire to be. On top of the normal violence we already had, add PTSD to it and you have a powder keg. Who wants to stay in that type of enviroment if they don’t have to. If you stay in deplorable conditions cuz you want to “keep it real” then you are part of the problem, not the solution.

  165. The Bear

    @ INOCENTbiSTANDR

Its not whether or not you go back. Its what you do when you go back. I would never diss the place where I was born and raised like that. You don’t hear Dominicans dissin the D.R., Cubans dissing CUBA, or even Haitians dissing Haiti (Look at Wyclef!!) They all send money home to help make things better.

But as EZ said… “the boyz in tha hood are always hard; come talkin that trash and they’ll…”

WE ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO ONLY LOOK OUT FOR SELF AND DO NOT HELP EACH OTHER!!!!!

And that’s why most “successful” black women can’t find a decent husband to raise a family with and none of the money in the hood stays in the hood. Everybody thinks they’re an Island but…

“I got news for you” *singing in my Al Green falsetto*

NO MAN (or woman) IS AN ISLAND PEOPLE!!! Grab a dictionary and look up the word “community”.

  166. mizz_undastood

As far as Jay-Z goes…he used to rap about all of the dope he sold and ish; if this was true, he sounds just like an Uncle Tom; first he helped to contribute to the growing drug problem in the black community and now he wants nothing more to do with them.

  167. BlackBeauty

Jay looks like a sick ass old man trying to dress young. Why is he looking so thin and sick?

  168. The Bear

    @ mizz_undastood

Transforming the hood can only be done one mind at a time. From my experience most of the people in the hood are very fine human beings, then there are many who are misguided because they are followers who just want to “be down”. And then there are a few psychopaths who pretty much keep the place on lock.

  169. cantstopwontstop

    @ Bear…

the only one who’s making sense on this board…

I live in the hood, by choice. More accurately I live in a predominantly black neighborhood in the inner city that within walking distance of four Chinese restaurants, two pizza parlors, two Dollars stores, a Blockbuster, a Radio Shack, the produce truck and two churches. Hood enough for you?

Yet this very same neighborhood also has a public tennis court that is kept up and maintained, a private, country club level pool club, and has college professors, yuppies, buppies, hippies and ghetto folks living side by side. My neighbor to the left’s son is a state senator. My neighbor to the right is the chief of staff for another politician. My neighbors down the street who just had a baby are both doctors.

So, although I completely understand Jay-Z’s point and he’s absolutely correct, you can’t stereotype every neighborhood. There is positivity and productivity in many “hoods.”

  170. The Bear

    @ cantstopwontstop

And I would go as far as to say that the music put out by Jay-z and others have done more harm than good to the hood. How??? By further eroding an already compromised moral fabric, glorifying sex and violence and worst of all materialism which influences young poor brothers to break laws to get what Jay-z says they should have because “money ain’t a thing” right?

So after you influence so much destructive behavior in the hood you move far away to count your stacks and tell the press about how you no longer associate with the hood.

  171. The Bear

    @ cantstopwontstop

And is it just me or have you noticed that Chinese seem to be the only people who own small restaurants in the hood. They seem to do just fine financially and send plenty money back to their hood in China.

  172. Nik

    bougie nicca!

    remember where you came from

was’t it bed-stuy that bought your cds out of the trunk of your car before white girls bought it when you had a radio/pop hit “hard knock life” in 98′!

  173. girlzluvme

nik needs to read the article again..it didnt sound like some1 that forgot where they came for..at least not to me

  174. Ara

What he says is true, but some people, even when they become very successful and wealthy are still trapped in that hood mentality……thats why there still is no substitute for education. Education and wealth together is a powerful combination.

  175. DIANA

I don’t like Jay-z but I must say he is 100% CORRECT on the “street cred” thing . Why woUld you waNt to go back to the hood if you made it out? People live their because they are economically devalued and have no choice . I do belive she should help improve you hood once you become “of status” but why still walk around tough? . That is why you pay bodyguards ?All these nigg** is studio gangsters . I think Young jeezy is one of the few who actually live the “street life “

  176. Ara

    @ mizz_undastood

When you know better, you do better…… he has grown, and broaded his horizons.

I’m not advocating anything illegal but a lot of these families such as the Kennedys etc. started out involved in illegal activities, that is how they started their wealth. They also were smart enough to have a vision and eventually became completely legit.

  177. Ara

    @ The Bear

I agree with what you’re saying, hood is a state of mind. You can live on Park Ave, or in a million dollar mansion and still be hood.

  178. The Bear

What Jay is saying here personifies hood mentality. Anybody who takes what society has to offer and does not put anything back is guilty of having a hood mentality. When Jay was poor he claims to have sold dope in the hood to make money. Then he starts rapping and selling records that helped further shape the mindset of the ghetto youth and got mega rich doing it. Then he started selling overpriced clothes and shoes to people in the hood and got even richer. Now he is not advocating ideas that will uplift the mindset of the people in the hood but rather celebrating the fact that he can eat caviar(yukk) @ the Lanesborough.

Bill Gates is trying to celebrate when he uses his money to eradicate malaria from the worlds poor countries. Why can’t Jay celebrate when you use some of your dough to eliminate drugs from your old neighborhood, or at least your block, or at least your old building instead of dissing your birthplace. Now thats noble.

  179. The Bear

In that respect Jay-z is more hood than Plies.

Because at least Plies is tryin to help kids from his hood who’s daddys are in jail pay for college. That’s not

  180. The Bear

And all of you on here who came out of the hood and say you never want anything to do with the hood again are displaying the deepest form of hood mentality.

  181. Ara

    @ Meeko From Detroit

You sound like you’re proud of the pathetic, subhuman conditions that are going on up there. That’s the type of sorry ish that black people are trying to rise above, not glorify it like it is something to be proud of because it’s not.

  182. K-ten

“I’m keeping it ‘hood.” I’m like, “Why? What do you mean? No one’s there by choice! You’re in the hood, by choice?”

    i always wondered that.

  183. The Bear

Cause its the best land!!!

you are really right bear we all need to pray especially the hood

  185. Ara

    @ He We Go again

The Hamptons? I’ve seen some of those houses in the Hamptons, some are older structures that seem to be wheather worn, but they are on the water and waterfront property is always more valuable. What makes that area so prestigious is the atmosphere and the caliber of people who live and frequent there, if Pookie and Shanana were running around there it would be called “hood” or “ghetto” too.

You are so right, part of the reason black communities become “hood”, “ghetto” or run down is because as soon as some blacks get a little money they run off to live in a white neighborhood ( they really don’t want you there) instead of staying and improving their own communities.

A lot of the houses and architectural structures that are in some of the older communities are beautiful and really better built than a lot of the newer structures. We (blacks) have no vision, if it ain’t new we just can’t see the potential beauty.

But I’ll tell you what, whites have vision, and the very same neighborhoods that we flee from, they move in buy up the properties, renovate, clean up the trash, plant grass, flowers, shrubs etc. soon other positive people move in and now this is the hot neighborhood to live in, the same one that you ran away from. Ex. Harlem in New York, beautiful Brownstones with great architectural detail that’s hard to find today. Same thing with the Row houses in Washington DC. There are no bad neighborhoods, it’s the bad people in the neighborhoods.

  191. jay is right..end of story!

  192. US !

You will never be out of the HOOD because the HOOD is IN YOU. WE made sure of that before any of you were even thought of. So YOU CAN THANK SOME OF YOUR ANCESTORS for KEEPING THE PLAN ALIVE. APPARENTLY it ONLY TAKES A FEW. The ONES who OPPOSE, well “WE” MAKE SURE TO TAKE CARE OF THEM. And You would be amazed how many of YOU are WILLING to aid US in our goal to RID US of the UNDESIRABLE.

You PLANT the right SEED at the RIGHT TIME the TREE PRACTICALLY GROWS ON IT’S OWN. Some of our little seedlings have even spawned a GENERATION that are becoming more and more DETERMINED to carry out our plan FOR US. An UNSTOPPABLE force that will surely do more for our cause than any MILLION of US.

It’s amazing what you can accomplish by waving THE CARCOUS of a ROTTING GAZELLE in front OF A PRIDE of HUNGRY LIONS with NO INTENTIONS of EVER FEEDING THEM. REMOVING THE ABILITY TO HUNT FOR THEMSELVES. WATCHING THEM TEAR EACHOTHER LIMB from LIMB solely for the RIGHT to FEED is an amazing sight indeed. Till the last one stands, PROUD and TALL, REVELING IN IT’S ACCOMPLISHMENT ONLY NEVER TO BE FED. BEING LEFT TO BEG for whatever SCRAPS WE DECIDE TO THROW IT’S WAY.

Although what we hadn’t expected was that SOME of OUR OWN would eventually fall behind. Becoming victims of some of the very same tenants of the PLAN we set in place for YOU. RACISM, SELF HATRED, COMPLACENCY, IGNORANCE, POVERTY, HOPELESSNESS, FALSE SENSE OF MODESTY, APATHY, just to name a few, or just being too WEAK to CLAIM what’s RIGHTFULLY THEIRS. This will HAVE TO BE CORRECTED of course, there will be NO ROOM FOR THE WEAK OF MIND, BODY or SOUL in the FUTURE of OUR PLAN.

We also hadn’t expected the TREE TO BEGIN TO GROW so fast and OUT OF CONTROL while our heads were turned. Seems a little PRUNING may be in order. Hmm!, Seems, We’ll have to come see MR. CARTER.

So for the REST OF YOU carry on and HOLD on tight TO THE TENANTS OF THE PLAN we so patiently INSTILLED IN YOUR ANCESTORS your time will come soon enough. And don’t think for one minute, TELLING YOU THIS, ISN’T PART OF THE PLAN.

  195. i really commend this guy for standing up and being honest, hes worth over a BILLION damn dollars, how HOOD is he supposed to be, he probably has hood tendencies but he now wants to be considered a business man, thats what being “bout it” is all about taking a postive and turning it into a negative…. and making BIG BUCKS in the process. What the fuck is wrong with you people, half of you that are saying that he needs to stop frontin… PUHHLLLEASE thats why they are broke and he has STupid money!!! go head jay!!! do you business thang and keep poppin that paper!!! fuck these lowlifes, hood niggas dont walk around with females like beyounce on their arms!!!! as kesha coles mom Frankie would say…. There is nothing good about the hood if you from there and you are blessed with the opportunity to make it out – keep it moving because the people you left behind are not half as happy to see you as you think they “would be” when you come for a visit. their best memories are when “they” was doing what they thought was something. No way you make any kind of real money and go back and think you spreading love if you must keep in touch – that is what the telephone is for so at least you dont have to see their fake smile and the knife cant come through the wire.

  202. tonihyll

I understand and agree with what Jay is saying, however, he should also place emphasis on using NAM “newly acquired money” (especially for people who came from nothing)to build their future, their kids future, and their kids’ kids future and so on….

As a black female I’ve seen way too many black men and women make money only to spend it on clothing jewelry, cars and other superficial indulgences and later have nothing to show for it. Have bling is fine but uplifting your community as well so more and more blacks can have bling is even better. Maybe one day we won’t be categorized as the minority especially where money and status is concerned. Jay I see what your were trying to say but what about being finally smart and secure as well? What about the flip side of that?

    @HOWBAD

You do know the reason why inner city schools are so underfunded right, it’s all based on your property value. So the more WE fuck up our communities the more we shortchange our kids. At some point we need to take accountability for our silly ass ways.

  207. f this black female celebrity wanted to, she could get separate allowances and lavish gifts from her current celebrity man kept in the shadows and a very wealthy black female celebrity in her industry.

She’s rolling in a six figure car gifted to her by her discreet celebrity man and she also has a clothing and bling allowance and receives expensive perfumes via courier and flies out of town on a moment’s notice with her super rich boyfriend via private jet.

They have traveled to exotic locations all over the world.

And, boyfriend has arranged for her to have a concierge on call 24/7 for any need she may have in any part of the world.

Meanwhile, the famous woman who has a girl crush on her is trying to up her game and convince her to have a discreet lesbian relationship with her. She ’s also offered her an allowance, gifts, etc.

So far, our black female celebrity appears disinterested and often says, “Let’s remain friends, we don’t have to take it to that level.”

But our potential sugar mama isn’t accustomed to taking no for an answer and she’s enjoying the challenge and telling other industry lesbians, “I’m going to get her!”

This girl crush may eventually disrupt their friendship because our female celebrity is growing tired of the constant flirting but our potential sugar mama is so caught up in trying to snag her, she doesn’t have a clue.

Who is the famous black female? The rich and famous boyfriend kept in the shadows? The potential sugar mama?

  208. Crustbetweenmytoes

You have to stay close enough so that you don’t forget how difficult people in the “hood” as you call it have it, and how amazing some of these same folks are.

Let me tell you dumb axxes something about the “hood” as you call it. Everybody is poor, but some people are not really. Some young people sell drugs and some do not. Some drug dealers sell drugs because they are just selfish, others sell drugs to support their families. Some men have children and leave them, or never know them. Some men do not and would never leave their children. Some men who leave their children take care of and look out for other men’s children, and their nieces and nephews and even the neighbor’s children. Nobody gets tax write offs for charitable deductions, or get stories written about them for doing volunteer work, but on every block plenty of folks are looking out for each other, taking in children, feeding families, sharing stuff, and doing what they can to help out. Those drug dealers with no values; nah…they have em. Most of em. When your family has nothing, and your sisters and brothers are hungry, and you are the only man around. Well…you take care of your family. And your a teenager like any other teenager and you buy yourself something nice too. And your little sis and bro and cousin and niece and nephew. And the ones you all like to talk about. They really aren’t animals. They are young people living in some very difficult circumstances. Growing up in homes with drug addicted parents, hunger, violence, somebody dying on them (violently) almost every year of their life that theyremember. Emotionally and/or mentally torn apart. And nobody does crap to help them because the folks close to them can’t and don’t know how to help them, and the folks looking in just piss on them — from afar. And angry…you would be too if what you were hearing day in and day out is that Black men aren’t worth crap, and young Black men are worth less than that, and young, Black and in the “hood” as you call it worth less than that. And you have no rights, not even the constitutional rights that everybody else in the country gets. And police f with all the time. And so, f it. And your little brother and sister, though, are different from you and you don’t want them to go through what you went through. And in your juvenile mind, because that is what you still are/youer a child, you do crap to make sure they have the things you did not have. And the girls…well…you are “ghetto” and “hos” who are not worth anymore than your male counterparts. But you try to take care of you children the best you can. And you cry at night because the boy you loved got killed. And you finish school in the midst of heck and get a good government job, or you go to college, or get your hairdresser license. F you track babies; your stuff was served to you and you couldn’t even do it right. And you love your mother and your big and little brother. And won’t take no sheet from anybody, and will whip a fool’s a** who messes with your little brother. Because, as the rapper said, your the sis trying to teach your little brother to be a man. And you dont have patience for phony people, and people always judging other people. Because for real, for real…if you aint been there (not looking in from the outside, or from the window because your momma with the good values and exposure that wasnt quite enough to keep her out the “hood” as you call it but she won’t let you go outside and play) you couldn’t possibly know. And you want a better life just like everybody else. You get tired of being on the street all night selling on the corner (rough and long hours). Tired of playing w/your ma, bro and sis one second, and looking out your window for a gunman the next. And you like to imagine being a doctor or lawyer, but…well…just alot of sheet. And you think about dying more than you think about your future. This is just a little bit. Hooray to all the heroes and sheroes, and role models who do their part, plus some, even in their imperfect way. Congrats to all the stars who managed to come out of some f’kd up stuff and got that good government job, or education. It may not look like much to them, but I know where you came from and how far you traveled. Track babies and wannabes…you can talk but you will never, never, know. We exist, we are, and we are not what you would have us be. Crustbetweenmytoes…you always was the smart one. Thanks for representing…although who gives a sheet about these nothings.

  209. Blaze from Brooklyn

I have to agree with Meeko, Brooklyn aint the hood no more, it used to be maybe 5 or so years ago, but now it aint shit. Back in the days[keep in mind im only 17] round ‘96 and higher, shit used to be real crazy out here, bullets 24/7, fighting, gangbanging[i used to be blood], knives, and all types of shit and everything but who knows what happened but i guess thats a good thing, the only thing out here is bloods and crips[who dont even bang], crackheads, and prostitutes. No fights, nothing.

And jay lived in the hood but he aint from the hood, if you get what im saying. He definately never was no druglord, he probably sold a little weed but who hasnt sold weed in Brooklyn? I get the biggest feeling his stories is way over exagerrated. Ill tell you which NY rapper is from the hood, Fabolous, trust me when i say that.

  211. Jay-ZMakesSense

No wonder Jay-Z is wealthy. He makes a lot of sense. Who wants to stay down if they can move up. The sad thing about these rappers is they can’t seem to know that they must leave that type of hoodlife behind. Going back there only means you are going to end up, in jail, dead or broke. These rappers beat the odds and end up in worst shape than what they came from. If you keep that hood mentality than you deserve what comes your way. They should try to do something positive and help get these young people out of self destruction, but they can’t do that because most of them can’t seem to get themselves out of self destruction, drug use, incarceration, baby mamas, uneducated, etc. A very sad situation. Wake up my people, please before it is too late.

  212. God help us………….

  213. Black Intellectual

What Jay is saying shouldn’t be newsworthy. It’s obvious that it makes no sense to act like a person with very few opportunities in economically depressed neighborhoods.

What isn’t obvious, though, is the difference between remaining loyal to black ethnic social institutions, black culture, and the US working class as opposed to the white power structure and the owners of capital. Every rapper that comes from the hood should remain loyal to their people. However, doing so has nothing to do with acting like a petty criminal. Rather, the rapper should use his good fortune to better speak to and represent his people. Malcolm X is a prime example of a person who left the hood but didn’t betray his people. 50 Cent is a prime example of a person who who left the hood but has betrayed his people.

  221. kigali Weaves R4 trannies

Jay Z is being a bit disingenuous. This is a man who shot his own brother over a chain. He made lots of money off of the hood and now he wants to distance himself. Its a bit like a cocaine dealing making millions and then decides to go straight.

Sorry brother but you could have given the hood the finger decades ago. Instead of selling that coke, you could have worked at McDonalds. You wouldnt have had as much money but you would still have your self respect. People all over this country do crap jobs, live, in the hood, and still manage to keep it lawful and legal. They dont need the hood to keep themselves feed and they would rather be broke than do dirt.

You dont have to keep it hood but you should have been keeping it RIGHT from jump. This is America.

He can say what he wants after he has made his millions. You have people swimming to this country on the Rio Grande, going through desert, not speaking a work of english but mangage to do legally work, albeit working illegally. Negro please.

damn ya’ll…have you ever thought that the brother is maturing. i get him when he says we didn’t have this…now we do let’s celebrate that…okay i get it but damn there’s more to life then having seven hundred diamonds in your watch and telling everyone about it on your cd’s. remember you can’t take that shit with you

  224. Power2Power

I hear you J. No one wants to live in the hood after finally getting out of it or do they? Makes no sense to me but to take it a bit further what has he done to help people in the hood? I am a little bit disappointed that all he and Beyonce do is take every penny they can from the hood but then do not associate themselves with the hood. Who the heck do they think buy their music? It sure isn’t the rich and famous. It is the hood. I consider Jay and Bey to be 2 of the greatest entertainers of all times but not so great individuals to humanity. I haven’t met them personally but if they did a lot of outstanding things in their former communities seemingly we would hear about it. Now, I have to give Diddy credit because he is always helping out financially. He creates a lot of jobs for others so in my opinion he is a great humanitarian. I know that one or two people cannot save the world but they can surely help one by one. I am happy for Jay and Bey success but since they have been Blessed by God with their fortunes why don’t they lower the cost of their clothing lines, do a free concert occasionally or just make a difference in someone else’s life besides their own. I think we all have a duty on this earth to be servants to others in some form or fashion because God doesn’t need us for anything else.

  225. thats some of the realest shit i have heard in a long time i mean aint that why we get our cake up to get away from the hood, we love the hood because that is something we have come to embrace because we are bascially stuck there until we make something of ourselevs. good looking jay for keeping that shit real

  226. mike

I agree with madmax. Jay is a faggot. And for one, when did keeping it real have anything to do with standing on a fucking street corner? Keeping it real, to me has always meant that your word is bond. That you keep your word. Like, I might’ve just jacked this sheepskin, but after I get some dough for it, I’m hit my moms off, or if I tell you I’m coming through, I will be there. Keeping it real ain’t never meant jumping out the window to me. keeping it real to yourself is the number one lesson=self preservation. So that there was not no new piece of information, that is obvious. And for black people there is no fucking neighborhood, because we are always on the run, even when we make it to Beverly Hills, so that shit Jay is talking, is straight propaganda. Jay is just trying to answer the hood indirectly, concerning his loyalty to the hood. Shit Italians leave the hood, but they never let go of the hood, because that is their bread and butter. For me Jay need to leave the philisophical shit, and tell the people the truth, He ain’t shit as a friend, but he damn sure know how to make money off of his friends. Now you know that ain’t rrriiiiggghhht. shout out out to Biggie the real King of Bk!

  227. Negrodamus Believes(Condo and Coupe is a must)

  228. kigali Weaves R4 Trannies

What the hell happened to my comments from last night? Down the Bossip memory hole. I hate this site.

  229. UPDOWN

Keeping it hood means that nobody will fuck with you business wise because you are locked in that slave mentality. Trying to act like the baddest nigga when coffins fit every type of nigga ever made.

Take Suge Knight for instance, he tried bringing his Blood metality to the business world it worked for a minute because the talent he had was hot, but as time moved on he burned every bridge he would come across, now he’s bankrupt and nobody will return his calls. He will never eat like he did before because he wanted to be so hood.

Now look at a cat like Quincy Jones, been in the music business longer than Suge Knight has been alive, and has more money than just about anybody in the music business. His longevity, his business sense and open mind made him prosper during the most racist times. If we stop gravitating to negativity so you can have the longevity to leave your legacy.

Images that show that we don’t care about our very own people only kill us off, look at America now there are more mexicans than blacks now, thanks to us killing us, we can only blame our own ignorance for our embarassment to the Gods before us. Bottom line are you a sell out because you get mad? can you handle an ass whipping or do you want to kill? Can you handle rejection?

You’re either a Sambo or an uncle Tom. Don’t blame the white man all he did was set up the traps that you walk right into each day.

  230. The Misses

To Max please check your facts before you state what MR. CARTER HAS AND HASN’T DONE TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY.

Y’all are forgetting about the people living in places where they can only afford to live in the hood…even though they making good money…..

where i live I know people living in a two income household grossing 120,000 a year struggling so its about being financially smart.

We as a people need to get financially smart….we live outside of our means and try to live a glorified hood….cats in the hood would rather put rims on their car than invest their money.

I know people who aint got no job or a place to stay but they come up with enough money to take a trip to the bahamas or buy a coach purse……

And anyone can be broke i.e. if you make a millon dollars and you spent a million dollars you’re in the same predicament as the person making 1000 dollars and spending a 1000 dollars

  231. cantstopwontstop

    @crustbet:

Thanks for posting that….that was way raw and real and you’re absolutely right. I see it every day…yes, I live in the hood, with central air and neighbors who are black professionals (and asian and white) and have solid family values. i have a three bedroom home and a garage – space that i could never afford elsewhere. i feel safe her and it’s nice to be able to get something to eat any time of night. i also think that the kids on our block see positive black role models who still live in their neighborhood. no, its not perfect. but its diverse and i enjoy that. But please believe as far as one poster said above, the yt’s are trying to take the hood back. Affordable housing (given what a house in the burbs cost) less maintenance, public transportation, access to city centers, believe me…right now is the best time if you live in an inner city to come on back and be a part of the change.

I have to say one thing about Jigga, many people have mentioned that he and Beyonce don’t do too much for their own. I think that’s true to a point, for instance look at what Brad Pitt did for folks in N.O. with his green housing contest.

However, Beyonce does have the “Survivor” foundation that did build an apartment building and community center in Houston. I know Jigga gave the water blah blah, but if you know anything about East Africa, they didn’t know who the hell or Beyonce was, and I’m sure they were just there to publicize what was already being done. But at least they went.

  232. flawda

    @ cantstopwontstop

How in the hell would you know what they do with their money, some people run their mouth to get attention about what they do and some dont. Who gave atleast 500,000 to Katrina, who have a mil to Sean Bell’s family, fresh water to Africa, etc. Jay and Beyonce barely speak about their personal life in their music much less public so what makes you think they would try and get credit for donations.

  233. flawda

Plus 99% of yall niggas on this site is faker than Jay anyways, because as much as yall talk about the hood and how much you love it, i bet yall dont do shit for it. Do you clean it up, do volunteer work, drop kmowledge to the lil kids. But yall expect Jay to do that right.

The big celebrity who made it out the hood is not the one that’s gonna change it, it’s the common every day person.

  234. It’s no surprise that the most influential M.C. in Hip Hop delivers the realest and truest statment of 2008. “Hov,” I concur, the cliche’ “keeping it real” is bullshit, and most cats that proclaim they “keep it real” for the hood don’t even live in the hood. Which begs the question, if you cant even reflect this cliche’ off of your own lifestyle, how real are you? Spark another trend for the people “Jay.” @uck keeping it real, I keep it right!

  235. Nothing Nice

    @ Mad Max 2099

I swear black people are the only ppl who will celebrate a man finally maturing after 30+ years of living. I knew that keeping it real shit was a joke when i was a teen. Jay is only saying these things cause he knows that he can’t say the things he was saying throughtout his 20s & 30s. I give more props for a young man saying this in his late teens & early 20s.

    ——————————–

    So damn TRUE!!!!!!

  236. Nothing Nice

Jay-Z is so fake it’s sickening! I’m out!

  237. Nothing Nice

    @ The Bear

    ————————————–

    I cosign 100%.. well said!!

  238. BG

on tha real… we (we that are from the hood)all know that the hood is not the grand solution of life. but when you are in the status of Jay-Z, you must choose your words very well… The hood is where we grew up. those of us that made it out of the hood, know that the hood is not the goal we strive for in life. all you fucks that can’t decipher what that man is saying are just lost. at the same time you cannot denounce the hood as being some bullshit that means nothing. The hood is wear we become men, or become bitches. it’s up to you as a person to decide which one YOU choose to be. I grew up in the “hood” but I’m not living in it now. It’s my choice to leave, and bring as many minds into the “realness” as possible. I aint mad at Jay for his comment, but at the same time, explain yourself to the masses of people who don’t understand what you are saying.. the masses of people have no common sense…It’s true, allot of people do not possess common sense.

  239. Mikaela

Jay-Z is the ugliest man whoever lived.

  240. The Beautiful Struggle

Detroit is shiteous, Hovs outfit…shiteous, the mental state of mind of SOME Black folks…shiteous….I’m depressed just reading through all this back and forth…ugh

  241. cici

Who cares? Just let us know how to find those celebrities. Lucky me. I just found Britney spears on 【W e a l t h y L o v e s.】. I guess the screenname is lovedream08 or something. Who knows what she is doing there. Maybe find her son a new father. Just kidding.

  242. Does anyone else wonder what he and Beyonce could POSSIBLY have to talk about?!?! As wonderful of an entertainer as she is, that chile has NEVA EVA said anything half-way profound and I can’t help but be curious as to what someone like Jay-Z who’s known for dropping intelligent and thoughtful lines could sit and talk about with The Lacefront Queen LOL Just a thought…

  243. AYANA

@meeyo…..oh pluhleaze with that Marcy projects bullish……how about take your a$$ to Philly……try those shoes on for a day. There is NO project in NY that can compare to the Projects downsouth, in Chicago, or in LA….I’m so tired of nyccaz thinking they live in the hood in NY…LMBO…You living good if you live there! NOW THAT’S KEEPING IT REAL!

  244. AYANA

    @ Mad Max 2099

I swear black people are the only ppl who will celebrate a man finally maturing after 30+ years of living. I knew that keeping it real shit was a joke when i was a teen. preach! LOL

  245. Thats some real shit jay spoke on, I wish more of these rappers would take the hint and stop frontin, I’m not really a jay fan, but he gets mad respect for those words.

  246. I hear a lot of yall talking about him having a responsibility to help the hood, Jay aint god, so therefore he can’t save the world. Its your own responsibility to save yourself. I believe the hood likes to make people feel ashamed of having success, “oh you a sell out”, when the truth is if it were us in his shoes we would get the hell out of the hood too. Who wants to live in poverty, piss in the hallways, dead bodies in the street, prostitution, motherfuckers fightin all the time. I believe that once your status in life changes, so do your priorities, you can’t take a hood mantality and a hood way of life to a rich mans game, you’ll get eatin alive. As black people we need to learn that knowledge is key, and your way of thinking has a lot to do with who you become.

  247. african princess

Beyonce should get in the kitchen, hook up some fried chicken for her man. Here in South Africa, when a married man looks like that it means his wife ain’t taking care of him. Feed the man.

  248. i don’t buy it

  249. Blaze from Brooklyn

All i have to say is Jay-z is a frontin ass nigga… plain and simple.

  250. Jae

Didnt the hood make him who is now?So why would you want to forget about the hood cause thats basically what he saying. You NEVER forget where you come from.Wouldnt you want to go back in yo hood and try to make it better for the people who are still there. If I had money like him I’d still role thru my hood.

I agree with the bling statement though.

  251. Ara

    @ It

They’ve been together for 6 years plus and he married her so apparently, they communicate very well, or well enough.

  252. Gucci

respect to Jay but what the is he wearing? that is not swag

  253. ~olga~

the outfit is clean…Mr. Carter does his own thing, but sets trends,it’s a secret society…for members only :-) …do ur thing boy, i love it…my man. SWAAAY! it’s ur girl. ~olga~
