People that talk about tax issues, have no idea what it means. Many people owe thousands of dollars of taxes. This happens often to self-employed people who get a windfall of money. Word to the wise, if you get a windfall-don’t spend it until you talk to a tax attorney. He or she will tell you how much to set aside. You will get a big tax bill if you inherit money or receive a big lump sum of money (over $50K). I remember one year, my parent’s tax bill was $24,000. This was due to cashing in on some stock, but not accounting for all of the tax liability. So, don’t automatically think people are broke, it just means they have to pay it back out of the bigger amount they earned. Most people don’t bother paying it all back at once, but break it down to a monthly amount, that spans a few years. So stop making it worse than what it is.
