Naomi is crazy but she is so pretty!
GUESS IM FIRST. I JUST WANNA SAY HEY TO PRETTY LAUREN
Oh yeah 1st!
SHIT!
you would think by now that the fashion industry realized that black models are WAY more bankable than the white ones. this comes as no surprise to me at all that this issue of Vogue did so well.
Sorry Way 2 Grown…beat ya to it
Ms Q, I feel you on this one, she fine as hell but the finest women are the craziest.
Check out tyra banksss!!!!!!!!!!
LIVESTEEZ SAID:
In the world of fashion magazines, a black model on the cover of the publication is is a rare occurrence. The justification for this disparity is often that issues with black cover models don’t sell. This month, however, the so-called “black” issue of Italian Vogue has proven that theory to be at least somewhat flawed.
As reported by UK news source The Guardian, in the past four weeks, the issue has caused such a phenomenal demand at news-stands in Britain and the United States that Condé Nast, the publisher, has rushed to reprint and distribute 40,000 more copies.
Conceived by editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani, and shot by Steven Meisel from a roster of 18 new, established and former stars, the July ‘black issue’ sold out in Britain on arrival. Borders bookstores in the country have reported that demand was up 654% from the previous issue.
“It has been unprecedented, a sensation, although that wasn’t the aim,” said Jonathan Newhouse, chairman of Condé Nast International. Here in the States, the issue is shrink-wrapped and stickered with the words “First Reprint. The Most Wanted Issue Ever.”
“I’ve been watching the news-stands since the beginning. There are lines of women when they hear of a new shipment,” says Kenya Hunt, the young black style editor of Metro International News in New York. “The news-stand guys are hustling, locking it up in the back and charging $25, $28, when the real price is $16. Yesterday, I saw it on eBay for $50. There is a climate shift. This is the year of the presidential election. And this at a time when magazine sales are really hurting.”
The issue isn’t new for Hunt, who wrote a piece about the absence of black models a year ao which was generally met with silence from the industry. Now, she says, everyone is eager to quote the article.
damn she is fine!
I am not surprised at all by this. I really want to get one.
Thank you I’m Just Me,
I bought the issue and the pictures of the models are so beautiful. I have the cover with that Ethiopian model Liya on the cover.
IMHO, That picture is very OPS (over photoshoped)
She is such a hottie!
BLACK WOMEN ARE THE BEST WOMEN ON THE PLANET!!!
PERIOD.
ALL OTHER WOMEN “PALE” IN COMPARISON!
ANYONE WHO DOES NOT BELIEVE SO IS A FOOL…
I bought my copy. Naomi is gorgeous as always.
The ONLY reason the fashion industry doesn’t promote more non-white models is NOT because they won’t sell–it’s because they CHOOSE NOT to put them in magazines, since they know they look better than white models.
Look at a beautiful black, East Indian, Asian, Arab, etc woman compared to a beautiful white woman. The non-white women have unique, exotic looks, and that is what the western fashion world doesn’t want to overtake their white women.
I hope this isnt just mere tokenism. I hope all editions of Vogue take note, and CONSCIOUSLY put in more non-white models in their magazines. Fashion is INTERNATIONAL, and the industry should reflect that!
Fashion is INTERNATIONAL, and the industry should reflect that!

100% Co-sign!
i wish i could find a copy, history in the making truly.
Black women are gorgeous and can sell anything! The industry needs to stop under estimating us. I’m not psychic or anything, but I believe after OBAMA is elected into office we are going to see some things change when it come to black people!! TRUST!!!!
@ Mandah?
If you’re in NYC, try any magazine store in the fashion district. That’s where I got mine.
all i have to say is: BITCH WHAT?!?! I AM SO PROUD TO BE A BLACK WOMAN
Black is beautiful!!!! It’s about time! These women are gorgeous plus they work just as hard as the white models and should be represented as well. Go ladies looking Good!
Black is beautifah! Naomi rocks.I think that grit keeps her young. How do you spell ornery? I love it, smooth skin, no make-up, nice teeth, that’s all you need.
I beg to differ. I admit that there are SOME beautiful black women, but there are only a select few. The ones whoe are gorgeous are the ones who are part white or some other ethnicity. It’s very rare you find a dark skinned african american woman and can honestly say she is beautiful. Big lips, Big Ass, big thighs, big belly, and BIG MOUTH? No thanks!!!
too bad that bitch is crazy. she looks pretty though.
how bout make-up optional, wear it if you wanna.
they are referring to this edition as the “ITALIAN MEN’S SPANK BANK SERIES”
dayum it’s 2008 and they are just now doing this.. dayum shame.. “better late then never” tho, right.. all the models look beautiful, glad to FINALLY see them getting their shine..
@KACEE..
Oh man, see that’s where the shyt starts.. this is a good thing that they did this, and the haterism starts.. for real, keep negative foul azz opionions to your self, they are NOT wanted here, not on this thread… shu fly, shu….
Kacee…I see the title couldn’t keep you away though. lmao…JEALOUS!
BTW, Black women are more than African American. Black women are African, African Americans, African Caribbean, African Spanish etc. The fact that you felt it necessary to come in here to trounce a historic ADMISSION by the euro run fashion industry that Black is indeed beautiful just shows YOUR JEALOUSY and it only reminds beautiful African American women that in their country racism is still prevalent and real. Thanks for not letting us forget that. You will be remembered…
MISS CAMPBELL STILL DOING IT BIG … I JUST WISH THEY WOULD EMBRACE OTHER’S THERE ARE MORE NAOMI’S OUT THERE … YOU KNOW, GOOD FOR HER SHE HAS ALWAYS BEEN ONE OF MY FAVORITE MODELS EVEN WITH ALL HER ANTICS
@realwoman..
good point, you know that the haters can’t stay away for two long, like why can’t people be happy about this, and keep this thread from seeing all the drama, namean..
YESSS SIRRR BLACK WOMEN HAVE ALWAYS BEEN BEAUTIFUL. THIS IS NOTHING NEW………..
Kacee – you are showing your IQ
This is a celebration of Black Beauty, not a debate.
yep…shoo fly shoo
I wonder where the issues are going to be sold at? I work in a bookstore and havent seen one copy yet!
That’s because we are fine as hell and the world knows it! And they’ve tried to make us hate ourselves but truth be known they try their best to emulate us!
It’s very rare you find a dark skinned african american woman and can honestly say she is beautiful. Big lips, Big Ass, big thighs, big belly, and BIG MOUTH? No thanks!!!
———————————————————
I have to disagree with that. There are plenty of beautiful black women out there that don’t look like the caricature you’ve described.
1. Michelle Obama
2. Susan Taylor
3. Lauryn Hill (she’s crazy, but she was beautiful when sane)
4. Kandi Alexander
5. Malinda Williams
6. Inga Marchand (yes, Foxy Brown is beautiful)
7. Brandy
8. Sanaa Lathan
9. Jill Marie Jones
10. Gabrielle Union
11. Leela James
12. Naomi Campbell
13. Aisha Tyler
14. Melody Hobson (rich and beautiful)
15. Grace Jones- she may not have fit into mainstream’s “box”, but she was a very famous woman for her “exotic” look.
16. Kelly Rowan
17. Meagan Good
18. Regina Hall
19. Garcelle Beauvas Nilon
20. Anika Noni Rose
21. Robin Givens
22. Keke Palmer
23. Judith Jamison
24. Angela Basset
25. Keisha Knight Pulliam
26. Tatyana Ali
27. Kenya Moore
28. Regina Bell
29. Cheryl “Pepsi” Riley (yes, I’ve been watching Tyler Perry plays lately)
30. Josephine Baker
31. Diana Ross
32. Joelle Marie Payton
33. Paula Jai Parker
34. Vanessa L. Williams
35. Nia Long
36. Venus Williams
37. Serena Williams
38. Lisa Leslie
I can keep going if you’d like. Black women have beautiful features, unfortunately we live in a society that doesn’t celebrate the darker cultures. Not everyone believes “White is Right”. My dark-skinned mother and dark-skinned paternal grandmother have no problems turning heads. My dark-skinned best friends always gets her man.
And there are only SOME beautiful women of other races. Not every biracial woman, white woman, Latino woman, Asian woman is beautiful. Don’t believe the hype.
The Kaycee’s come here just to start a ruckus. Ignoring her, him, it.
Anyway, it took long enough for the world to realize that black women are beautiful and strong. We’ve stood the test of time, and I’m proud to be one.
@ WhatsYoursIsMine
THANKS BABE, KEEP IT TRUE!
100% COSIGN
Oh
@Kacee
What about stank, slut, fat ass, trailer queens, dying-to-fuck a black man piggy little white women? NO THANKS!
Kacee, you are too damn funny. Why is it that you and your counterparts lay their asses out in the sun trying to acquire the gift that we were given from god. Bitch please I love my beautiful dark skin, my thick thighs, and my shapely ass that you fools are buying. I bet I can steal you man too! Don’t want him though. Why is that whenever I’m around your men they are snapping there necks to admire the natural beauty that you can only dream about. And like I said about emulation earlier, why is it that every time I go shopping your people are always making their way over to me to see what the hell I’m buying. No damn originality always stealing. Get it together and go to PerezHilton where your opinion will be embraced.
People, don’t believe Kacee is white. I’m starting to think a lot of the naysayers on this site are Bossip staff members trying to start stuff so people will come back and keep reading, and keep clicking on the advertisers’ links.
I love my sisters! We must unite!
@Confused and Bewildered,
You’re not going to find Italian Vogue in most newsstands. You have to either go to an international bookstore, a fashion bookstore or perhaps one of the larger branches of bookstores like Barnes & Noble or Borders. Good Luck.
Well if they are bossip staff, then shyt there plan is working, cause if you noticed the ONLY time that a thread has 300+ comments is because somebody starts talking shyt, then it’s a back and forth thing.
Funny how the Black women in this issue fall smack dab in the Euro standard of beauty. Look at Naomi with her ultra long white girl weave and colored contacts, and enough airbrushing to make you think this a white girl with a serious tan! I think if you want to celebrate BLACK beauty, how about some Black women who are rocking their shit the way God made them???? (And pleeeze, don’t bring up Alec Wek. She’s a beauty, and the ONLY one that slipped through the Euro cracks).
Kacee, is probably black, I don’t think a white man or women would log on and pop that crazy sh**. No love for your own!
Kacee go to hell!!!!!!!!!!1
MAN it feels good to be black right now. Lets not ever lose the momentum lets only increase the momentum
this coo-coo heffa is beautiful. that lace over the cat eye is fly. go nay-nay!!
this is definitely OUR time..stand up!
@ WhatsYoursIsMine
Am I supposed to know who any of these people are? I think I have heard of like, 5 of those names.
@ isaidit
Honey I dont think “My” people are going over to see what your buying ( We dont shop in ghetto stores such as D.E.M.O. sorry), they’re just making sure you didn’t steal anything.
@Kacee-
Look them up. You’ll probably find more examples of ethnic beauty while you do so. Have fun!
It’s only natural that African Americans would dominate in this field as well.
They have tried so hard to make us think that our beauty is to be joked and not embraced.
We are a beautiful people both inside and out. We come in so many different shades from the darkest and richest chocolate to the creamy golden. Yes, we are beautiful and the world has known it since the beginning of time.
I love being who and what GOD made me and that’s a beautiful, gorgeous, curvy and most of all intelligent African American woman!
Hey WhatsYoursIsMine! *waving*
A friend of mine told me this weekend that this issue has sold out in Europe. I had to put my name on a waiting list at Barnes and Noble to reserve my copy (I wanted more than one, but they could only save one for me) and I’m proud to say, I have it at home.
It took a lot of calls and being told by numerous booksellers that they had sold out of copies — several said within the same day the issue arrived. I haven’t browsed through the whole issue yet, but the cover is stunning. I hope this brings more work for well-deserving models of African descent.
Yeah, I spent the $20 bucks (tax incl.) and the best spread was Tocara and her titties (I’m hella jealous). I was bummed that it was in ITALIAN (duh) and the ads still featured whitenesses, but it was still well worth that dub (I heart Naomi).
Another example of the popularity of this groundbreaking issue:
Greg Allen, Impex’s Midwest regional manager who covers Texas, said he has gotten requests from newsstands and stores that normally don’t carry Italian Vogue, including black-themed bookstores. Allen said the American demand has been so great for the Italian issue that Conde Nast in Europe has done an additional reprinting of the magazine due to arrive in the States today.
@ imrightdammit
well, there’s no prob with black women wearing weaves…personally I prefer to rock my own, but those who do, doesnt mean that they’re trying to be white…our hair is so fragile so how many famous black women do you think wouldnt be bald if everyday they were pressing, relaxing, and styling they’re NATURAL hair….too much HEAT and STYLING…all that crap celebs have to go through would ruin our hair….AND BESIDES..LOOK WHO’S ROCKING THE WEAVES AND EXTENSION NOW??? WHITE WOMEN AND OTHER NON-MEMBERS!! What’s their excuse?? and naomi does not look like a white woman with a tan in this pic…
This issue ONLY sold big because it’s the first of it’s kind. Also, it sold big because a huge amount of Black women bought it. In general, Black women do not sell mainstream magazines. I guarantee that if Black models dominated the rest of the Italian Vogue editions, sales would decrease. Be happy for the sales but don’t feel the need to knock non-Black models in your celebration.
@ kai
Sorry to burst your bubble but Black women who wear weaves desperately want to be White. You can deny it till your face turns blue. Manageable hair is NOT natural for Black women. Why don’t you wear your hair the way nature intended? Also, it may be true that non-Black women wear extensions but the majority of the time we do not. Maybe you should embrace yourselves and stop trying to be something that you’re not.
I personally must have missed the comments knocking non-black models. . .I not only see this as a progressive move for black models, but for all models of color who are currently not as visible as they should be.
Bellisimo!
Kacee, baby you cannot afford to shop where I shop. I just returned from Bora Bora (have you been there? no and you probably never will, return to your trailer before the wrinkles and skin cancer surface), and as for the store that you mentioned sorry but I’ve never been there but apparently you have. Trust me boo my household income far exceeds yours, no need to steal. That’s what You do best! Go slob a mini knob!
WhatsYoursIsMine
^^^I totally agree!
Let the success of this mag and the beauty within it be an example to all the Bitchadness fools who try to diss Black women and our features i.e. our ful lips, mouths, hips, and asses. We come in all shapes and sizes and I love our diversity.
Oh and I should have been on that list.
)
Oh yeah, I’m so glad they have Naomi on the cover. I don’t care how crazy folks think she is. She is the truth
Lisa,
“Sorry to burst your bubble but Black women who wear weaves desperately want to be White.”
******************
I beg to differ. Totally wrong. In fact, you’re as incorrect as it gets on this one.
@ isaidit
Bitch please….anybody who has to put all their shit out there is obviously overcompensating. If have it, you dont talk about it. And if you dont, you try and talk yourself up. Im not gonna waste my time telling you my financial situation, no need. After reading how lame you sound trying to make yourself sound like Paris Hilton LOL. girls like you will always play second fiddle…..even if you take trips to Bora Bora
If you think that gives you some status in the world, more power to you.
Kacee..
One thing that I don’t understand, is WHY IS YOU HERE? WHY is you on this website, if you saw the headline and didn’t agree with it, then OH WELL. keep it moving. look you the one that started all this drama, when for real, this IS celebration for black woman, period. they FINALLY got recognized in a prodominatilly WHITE magazine.. like i said.. let it be. why come in here talking all this shit. its people like you that give white girls a bad name.. get over yourself, you just miserable in your own skin.. keep it moving, and all the other ladies entertaining this, you shouldn’t. she’s obviously winning, when she get’s everyone worked up..
HATERS HATE!
she is gorgeous beauty! I saw someone posted her pics and vids on **casualpal.com, she was so popular there, just for casual encounters to have fun and more.
Lisa,
i’m black and beautiful and weae weaves, i would never in my life want to be a white woman, not hating but its just not for me. The reason I sometimes wear weaves is beacuse i like to change my style every once and a while, not of my weaves are shorter tahn my real hair so you sound really stupid saying black woman who wear a weave want to be white are you kidding me thats just as dumb to say white woman who get tans want to be black. you need to get an education then get back to me dummy
It’s going to be VERY interesting to see how the fashion world reacts to this considering:
(1) The success of THIS issue and it’s not even an American issue (*that’s messed up because you would of imagined that a US publication would of done this first if you consider the fact that there are more Black here in the US than anywhere else in the world besides Africa)
(2) How much money we spend in those expensive high end stores = Gucci, Louis Vuitton, etc…)
(3) The Success of Black Models in Big Modeling Campaigns (Non-FUBU ads folks):
- Tyson Beckford for Ralph Lauren
- Naomi Campbell in Everything
- Tyra Banks in Victoria Secrets and her Americas Next Top Model TV Show
When are they going to put 2 + 2 together = Black People LOVE fashion & the Power of the Black Dollar.

Not the only one. Roshumba Williams?? She was real big during the 80’s and early 90’s. She was married once to fine ass Gary Dourdan from CSI too.
Again these women are BEAUITFUL…
all these stupid ass supposed to be “White” women coming on a predominately African American site to down these women for their accomplishments need to really take a good look within yourselves and try and find out where the true hate comes from. Because its so blatantly obvious that your all jealous of black women. I’m beautiful inside and out so spewing self hate on another race is beneath me.. but its also mighty funny how if an African American women wears a hair weave she wants to be white.. well I guess when you tan to darken your pasty white skin, inject your lips to make them bigger, get ass injections to make it bigger and damn near kill yourself in the gym to get curves that come natural to us and date black men.. well it seems to me you wish you were one of us too. LMAO sorry baby black don’t crack 20 years from now I’ll still be glowing…J you on the other hand will be a see-through wrinkly mess… you lames are wack as someone posted before go to Perez or something because over here we BLACK AND WE PROUD!!!!!
^^Thank you mzpretty
my mom is pusing 50, looks 35. people DO NOT BELIEVE she has kids in their 20s

And still no one mentions Iman. She’s still gorgeous and I’m sure she embraces her African roots, weaves and all. I like Roshumba ’cause she was one of the few models that rocked a short natural even though I think she straightened out her short do at times.
Sistas don’t rock weaves to be white but for diversity. I guess it depends on the colors and textures cause Lil’ Kim use to get flack for sporting her blond weaves and probably still does.
@ Lisa
who asked your pasty craker ass to comment on black women any way? hmmmm could it be that a beautiful black woman threatens your precious white womanhood privaleges. What do u know about a weave u gutter-ass muckraking turky neck skin saggin ass spider veigned hair smellling like a wet dog pig! Black women wear their hair in weave often to give it time to grow. yall need to stop trynna LOOK LIKE US. that’s why white men are leaving your bland, never satisfied crying asses for asians by the DROVE. I’m sure your one of those fat white woman who can only get a broke ass black man who happens to have a big wang who your sloppy ass lets get it from behind. U mad cuz sistas give u the evil eye in the mall right? even if i’m not right u still probly an angry hoe! black men are brainwashed. Shut the front door! hahaha Get of this site u muckraking pencil lipped, flap jack ass jealous wrinkled by 25 troll.
Everyone still remembers “Baby got back” right? I guess Sir-Mix-a-Lot was ahead of his time, “So Cosmo says you’re fat. Well, I ain’t down with that.” Those white magazines use to have exersizes trying to get us to make our behinds “smaller” but it looks as if we had the last laugh because no one wants a small ass anymore. Firmer maybe but not small.
ooo if your not white….then….ummmm….wait…i blame Kim Kardashian!! HAHAHAHAH its that Angry Black Woman turetttes…my bad
I’m not gonna dis other races and call people names ’cause I don’t get down like that but Black women do have the most womanly, shapely figures. Hard to mistake a bald black chick for a man as long as she has them curves. If that doesn’t make us proud I don’t know what does.
Isaidit– The fact that you even answered that trifling heffa, to give her the time of day, should be enough……@Hey, to all my beautiful black women, up in here..Yes, I am trying to get a copy too. Naomi is crazy but, SHE IS BEAUTIFUL!!! Don’t let nobody tell you different. Our uniqueness is many different shapes, colors and sizes. I love ya sense of humor, the strength to keep going, in spite of, THEY CAN’T TELL ME NOTHING!!!!! My sistas keep doing you, and yes, each of you are beautiful..Keep that with you when you brush these haters off, ya shoulders, head up and walk tall, love ya black women!…….Your sister, always knew…..

You are lol funny, go on girl, with ya bad self!! Ya’ll cuttin up and rightfully so, get your shine, celebrate and don’t let the player haters, catch you and imitate! I love when it gets positive in here..smile…
and u know this… lol
I will always defend the esteem of black women because we’ve been stepped on too long. The chick is probably black or bossip staff but just in case she was served and needs to roll off of here.
I have this issue and let’s just say the photography is absolutely stunning. The models they chose are gorgeous. If you love fashion and you don’t already have this, you need to get it. It’s well worth the $20
I see you over there, I said it, kickin mad dirt on the haters…smilin and waving…girl, you guys are a lol crazzzzy thread, but I am very glad ya’ll over here stickin up for yourselves and each other…Keep going, ladies, you will reach wherever you’re going, much success to you all……check you later…
I bought it… a keepsake for my future daughters…and the entire spread was waaay better than the white-washed, corny photoshoots in American Vogue…and they have A.L.T. there, so whassup with American Vogue being so white?!
its great to celebrate this issue as a high fashion giving black women the recognition that is LONG overdue them .. but i think its also important to not demean or belittle other races and dub black women as “the” authority on beauty. women are beautiful period. white, black, asian or whatever. the femininity of a woman and her grace and style alone are enough and you can find those characteristics in women of all color.
This is just another example of the buying power in Black America. A Black America that the powers that be want to ignore and not invest dollars in. If you talk to any marketing executive and ask them where they are budgest to spend their company’s money, it is primarily geared towards the Hispanic market while ignoring African American consumers. Never mind that African Americans have more economic buying power and continue to put money into the U.S. economy, compared to Hispanics who primarily send their monies back to relatives in their country.
I’ve said it in small circles but now I’m saying it to every African American in this country. It is time for us to have a BLACK OUT! By this I mean taking one day as a people to come togther and not purchase anything, anywhere. It’s time to show Corporate America that we really having buying power and they need to start investing dollars in our communities, our causes, and our projects.

And this would prove what?
Once again, all the sistas are adamantly defending the weave, when this isn’t about how you feel about your natural hair (that’s a different topic, although most of you go through such troubles to hide it, it makes me wonder), but it’s about WHAT WHITE AMERICA AND EUROPEANS CHOOSE TO UPHOLD AS “BLACK BEAUTY”. They pick women with hair/features, whether real or fake, that looks like they do. That’s the point I’m trying to make. We buy into that as well, instead of defining our own standards of beauty. And Roshamba is another exception. And that’s even what White people do to justify their bullshit, they name a few exceptions like that makes it all better (”Black people in poverty??? What about Oprah??)
you have white women who is so fucking damn jealous they so damn jealous they made sure this book was not shown cuz we would put them to shame.
the reason why they dont want black models they jealous of the million skin tones black women have all the hair types every oblack woman sure in hell dont look the same this is why white women tan and try to look black so they can be a light skin black woman or a dark skin black woman and its so fucken sick.
i have my own long ass hair to make every race of woman jealous cuz its not weave and put them to shame cuz how better i look and all my body parts are just better hands down yall dont stand a chance black women got the bad asses shapes. as far as weaves i dont belive black women what to look white why? white women are fucken ugly lol please weave really make black women look mix and white women are jealous. mix black women are half the not real and they still dont look as good like a full ass black woman.
every one is so fucking jealous of black women and i love it. when i go out i allways had saice i was small look dolled up when i go out hater ass white women stop and look at me and roll they eyes cuz they jealous then they look at my body and get up set they trying so hard to be tanned and trying so hard to be thick but once you put up a black woman body next to a black woman she put to shame cuz im a dancer ballet and my body is hard core and when a black woman works out and you can see it its 100 times better then a white woman body.
plus white women have ugly ass bellys i hate they bellys its ugly they bodys off. ugh i see why they jealous cuz they fuckeing ugly
but what makes me such a fuckeing pretty as black doll who looks like the singer mya but better and i aint even mix my hair is curly my hair is real im fucking the shit and my man knows it and we gone get married damn he lets me have my way he spoils me he said he even get us a maid i aint gotta cook do shit but take care of or children when we married ummmm im doing something right
Suckas.
I can hear the boardroom now “Hey, I got an idea. Let’s dig up some old pictures of black models, snap a few new ones to mix it up; we’ll leak about a Black issue to the press; no doubt the soap-boxing will begin about African beauty, curves, and Naomi’s Euro features; THEN we’ll charge 10x the usual newsstand price, it’ll fly off the stands in righteous solidarity, and then kaching for us!
Don’t believe me? I saw the issue at a newsstand in NYC (SoHo) yesterday weighing in at $25! Yes, just for a magazine folks. Get a grip.
Sorry all, but just can’t get excited because I see this as the Token Issue, and probably the only time a black woman graces a Vogue cover. Black women should be featured throughout these magazines as often as white women. I know, fat chance.
Issues like these allow editors to pat themselves on the back and say,”We’re very proud to feature women of color,” while in the next breath, “Get Kate Moss on the phone.”
And please don’t think buying this magazine is going send a signal.
Black women are beautiful. Now all they have to do is adjust their attitudes and stop from “going on a rant” when things go wrong.
I can’t you bitches are acting as if this is some momentous occasion. I bet that the next black cover will be next Febuary, Negro Appreciation Month. I bet have you hos don’t read Vogue, let alone Vogue Italia.
Not impressed. Never been one who embraced my beauty/heritage thru the eyes of the dominant and oppressive culture, not since high school at least. I guess Vogue is redeeming itself for historically excluding women of colour on its covers. (and because of recent charges of racism in the fashion industry protests to cover their arses) The first black woman, Donyale Luna, had to damn near mask her entire face, and meager forty two years later they release an all-black issue and place that rhinoplastied bipolar chemical queen on their allcover (not tyra, naomi) – well we have finally arrived…
love liya kebede and alek wek. something about african born black women. natural inner beauty that radiates. and they have the sense to either do be respectable human beings or they must invest in good PR stay out the tabloids with their various sex affairs and rehab stints, something chix in the West can learn from.
Continue to support black tail mag. at least the chicks have their original noses. until someone can create a high fashion publication with that mirrors the beauty of african women. until bobby dinero gets into publishing we will be holding our breath.
whether you agree with wars or not, soldiers still deserve our respect, they do
a fantastic job when they join the military they know that there is a good
chance of fighting, to make that decision on behalf of our country alone
deserves our respect. Remember people it is the SOLDIER not the politicians or

President & CEO all day!
black is beautiful… as long as it’s basically white with shoe-polish.
pass.
Black doesn’t sale?! That’s what they say and now they see what happened. Despite OG Haters, I’m happy for this issue. It shows change and progress.
YES WE CAN!
I don’t see the big deal about this vogue Italian magazine
these woman don’t represent real black woman
they represent themselves – look at the woman in these magazine
they all models- make up – paint up – everyone of the them is
wearing horsehair – wig – you don’t see one natural black woman -
look at Naomi on the cover – she look so fake – plastic – hair brush
what does anyone of these woman does for BLACK WOMAN
nothing -
Oh yall didn’t know..the italians go crazy over the sistahs..naomi looks great!
I think people hate on dark skin women because dark skin women have a natural radiance and lets face it chocolate is everyone’s secret desire. Don’t worry dark is coming back yall
And although this doesn’t represent the “natural black” woman I’m talking about the kinky hair kind if you think about it there is no one in the industry bold enough to wear their hair like that which is why we don’t see them in the magazines.
Its no secret that the black women that we see are the women that conform to the european look but honestly it is a step forwar for sisters in general and every step counts in my opinion, we will get there
And although this doesn’t represent the “natural black” woman I’m talking about the kinky hair kind if you think about it there is no one in the industry bold enough to wear their hair like that which is why we don’t see them in the magazines.

Isn’t it ashame that blackwoman can’t be themself
they always have to wear all that fake shit to make in the industry ( as per your statement)
you said we will get there (where is that?)
I have this issue of vogue, bought it from borders for 15 bucks. I hope they come out with an english version. The articles looks very interesting.
As much as this issue of Italian Vogue is a great thing, it still doesn’t address the larger problem that despite black women spending 20 BILLION DOLLARS on clothes and fashion, we are still rarely seen on the catwalks, and more importantly in ADVERTISING for these fashions. And advertising is where the $$ is at!
Even in this all black issue of Vogue…All the ADS feature white women!
So it’s great that the spreads show the beauty of black women that has long been overlooked and copied (or attempts to copy) by the fashion industry…but this is a drop in the bucket. We need to demand more and hit them in the profits where it hurts!
Black women need to use their $$$ and economic power and stop buying the products and fashions of designers and companies that don’t use black models.
Don’t be satisified with just one issue that isn’t even the US version!! Hell, we have to read and go Italian now to get some respect!! C’mon!
If your looking for the magazine or want to see it in it’s entirety, check my blog. I have been posting on this issue since it was announced they were going to make it. The issue is beautiful, check it out!
i want a copy!!! were in london can i get it!
Its funny listening to everyone on here saying shit like “black women are the most beautiful, white women are ugly, black women have the best, hair, skin, ass, lips”..
it reminds me of people in denial. just like when big fat women say shit like, im a “big beautiful woman”. you can say it 1000 times, but it still doesn’t make it true…
i have no problem with you screaming “black is beautiful”, but don’t fool yourselves in thinking it’s more beautiful than white women… blonde hair, blue eyed natural white women are the dominant hotties in this world.. and always will be..
so again, you keep screaming it 1000 times, it still doesn’t make it true.. and thats the opinion of 99% of the world…
I mean I bought 3 of the Naomi mags. I love that heffa even if she is crazy and won’t leave the green contacts alone…however I was deeply outraged and damn right pissed to see the first 200 pages were still all white faces and all white ads for the biggest names in fashion. I actually would have been happier if theissue only consisted of the last 100 pages. Then they included a runway booklet with NOT ONE DARK FACE…I felt used expecially sine they made it out to be this big deal. I go out and buy it and it’s the same shit? The worst part is that all those big names plastered throughout the book will get a major boost in sales and guess who will be the one’s buying their sh*t…Women of African Decent that’s Who! We make up the largest percent of the population spending money on fashion. This is true and has been going on for a long time. WOmen of color suffer from low self esteem in the society and we make up for our low status by buying and shopping and looking good on the outside…YET WE ARE INVISIBLE IN FASHION MAGS? Let’s not forget about Latina Women….THEY ARE NEVER IN FASHION MAG…NEVER…atleast we got our 3 or so models they have none
why isn’t my gravatar working? How do you set it up? I went on gravatar.com and uploaded pics then i put the same email address in bossip’s reply thing but still not working…
To OH SHUT UP
I’m so sick of MuthaF*kkas with no lives voming on blogs and trying to start sh*t get a eff’n life. You ain’t black and if you are. I feel sorry for you because ur mind is ther epitome of a “colonized mind” I’m sorry but White society simply swallows and digests everybody elses culture and take what they want. They try to lable everybody else in the world as “inferior yet they kill themselves literally (skin cancer and botched plastic surgery) to be just like us. I know that white women are intimidated by me when I walk down the street with my perfect ebony skin and natural hair…i know so because NOT ONLY HAVE PLENTY OF PEOPLE OF ALL RACES TOLD ME SO but they stare at me in shocked amazement because I look the dead in the eye full of obvious pride and smirk at their men who have his tongue out his mouth in lust…sorry but there’s nothing like a confident black women who knows her beauty to put white women in their place.
P.S. old white women are the grosses things ever.
Also Who told you this is “THE OPINION OF 99% of the world” as you put it? The white owned television networks. The Media outlets in the Industry controlled by the same 5 multitrillion dollar companies owned by 5 old white men? Thanks to globalization western white society has been able to spread their ugly and sick pathology throughout the world to other countries…infesting the minds of billions of people. And you wonder why with the spread of so western civilization comes depression, war and racism… Groups of people committing genocide against the very people they’ve coexisted with for years before hand. Western society is a disease and even if lots of people are brainwashed into believing the whiter you are the better…it damn sure ain’t nearly 99% of the world…but thats what they’d like you to believe honey. Read a book and think for yourself. Ignorance kills…LITERALLY
um, noone has to tell me whats beautiful.. i can look at the person and form my own opinion.. so you go ahead and keep screaming about your “beauty” and how “everyone “wants to be like you. you’re delusional.. white women dont’ tan to be “black”. hahha that’s the stupidest thing i’ve ever heard.
so you ms “bbw”, you keep screaming how you’re hot, all the while your thighs keep rubbing up against eachother chaffing so much they’re about to burst into flames. go on with yo bad self.
you should really educate yourself and actually look at the world today. pick up a book and take off that weave..
“We make up the largest percent of the population spending money on fashion.”
Do you have any stats to back that up? How can it be that blacks are the most economically repressed group in any society but spend the most money on fashion? Wait a minute I think I just answered my own question.
Cars, liquor, fast food, and hair weaves. That’s where the black dollar goes.
@ohshutup- Uh, actually the idea of black beauty and other ethnic groups are changing, that’s why it’s starting to show itself more and more…There is absolutely a market for it…You must be of a different background to bring your jealous fake behind on here, to try to get at my sisters, go fuc- yourself, or keep chasing black men, in overwhelming numbers, your white men are no longer interested in white women, you are being abandoned for Hispanic, Asian and Black women, as well…No screaming it, won’t matter, but the sales, will…So don;t let the door knob hit you, where the Good Lord split ya, flat behind……It’s certaintly interesting that you people dedicate so much energy, to try to down other people and races, I’m so glad the clock on the wall is ticking,,,your time is almost up…..Now, be nice and properly thank the black women taking your place…..smile……..

And you, and the other pale faces of your ilk, need to take out your blonde “extensions”, (ahem! weaves!), take all of that collagen out of your lips, stop buying those butt pads, stop getting those saline and silicone fake breasts, stop getting fat transfer injections into your flat asses, and also go read a book!
Oh, and how’s the skin cancer risk going, as you try to darken your skin, by cooking in the hot sun!
You say white women don’t want to be Black, but it seems you don’t want to be what you REALLY ARE, either!
Van (Tokyo,Japan)(Check me out!)
Black women are beautiful. Now all they have to do is adjust their attitudes and stop from “going on a rant” when things go wrong.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Are you suggesting that Black women don’t “rant”, so they can end up addicted to Zanax and Zoloft and all those other prescription medications, like so many other non-black women, who don’t stand up for themselves?
Some of you haters need to SHUT THE F_CK UP!!! You don’t have to spout your Aryan bullshyt here cuz ain’t nobody checking for the sh-t. Blonde white women are the hotties of the planet? WHich f-ckin ones? The ones who spend 100k on their f-cking appearance. The anorexic 50lb bishes who are so f-cking weakminded they let some man tell them what is beautiful and what is not! Weak azzed people can’t stand strong ones. Yeah sistas speak the hell up. Just cuz your weak azz look the other way when your serial killer husband packs your freezer with the severed heads of his trophies don’t hate cuz you ain’t got the strength it takes to stand up.
And f-ck the weakazzed men who a weak azzed white world destroyed pyschologically where you hate your mother and any woman who resembles you. Dont give me that ish when white women are flying down to Rio in droves to get a black Bantu Brazilian behind.
White people and weakminded negroes are so pathetic! Trying to defend their dying Aryan race to the f-cking end. Black people are the first and we’ll be the last. Haters fall back. And some of you self-hating black folks read some history books and get a goddamn grip and repossess your black azzed mind and sanity.
Who cares what some weak azzed cave bishes who have to butcher their azzes thinks of black women. Your funky butchered pink azz don’t represent beauty to me either biotch!!!!!
Instead of celebrating the fact that this magazine devoted major pages to all black models (current, past and former models) I knew people here would attack the success of it. For those who don’t realize how fashion magazines work, the amount of fashion spreads or “stories” or editortial work the model has, the better. In the case of Italia Vouge, the amount of pages devoted to black models is a huge statement. So when people complain that there were still white models in all the ads, that was to be expected (The Black Issue ONLY pertained to the fashion spreads). This issue was a great trubute to black models,
BOSSIP LET ME ANSWER SHEREECE’s QUESTION!
well bossip won’t allow me to give you the link but
Shereece I was this close to telling you to take 2 seconds to google and do your own research anyway but it means more to me to shed some light on your ignorance…So this 1 of MANY articles with statistical data and research done on the topic…I’ve included some short excerpts from an article
“To examine spending by racial groups, Roussanov and his colleagues studied data collected from 1986 to 2002 for the Consumer Expenditure Survey conducted by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. Blacks and Hispanics spend up to 30% more than whites of comparable income on visible goods like clothing, cars and jewelry, the researchers found. This meant that, compared to white households of similar income, the typical black and Hispanic household spent $2,300 more per year on visible items. To do that, they spent less on almost all other categories except housing, and they saved less.
Visible items are those others can see when one is in public. The researchers found that blacks and Hispanics do not spend more than whites on items, such as home furnishings, that could serve as status symbols but aren’t seen by as many people…”
“The research indicates that spending habits are heavily influenced by a deep-seated yearning for status rather than transient fashion following. That could make the behavior harder to change, assuming that education, health and savings should come before shoes and jewelry.”…
“The fact that saving and stock market participation is lower among minorities could be potentially linked to their greater spending on cars and other visible items.”
YES WE ARE A VERY economically repressed group of people but our spending habits don’t do much to help the problem. We let our low self-esteem get the best of us…
Well yes there is color problem in the fashion industry, what else is new. Word of advice for all those people bitching about racism in the fashion world, start your own run way fashion shows, learn photography (yes women can learn how shoot pictures and develop them in the dark room),
put it myspace, etc. People it can be done !
I’ll tell you what, just follow the instructions like I posted above it’s worth the risk.
