A White Sorority From Arkansas Wins The Sprite Step-Off Challenge

Posted on February 22nd, 2010 - By Bossip Staff

Categories: News, SMH, What the Hell???

Bossip was invited to watch the finals for the Sprite Step-Off Challenge. There were a total of 14 sororities and fraternities but low and behold the sorority that won the $100,000 prize was not even black. These ladies received a standing ovation once they were finished…

Is This Even Right???

Zeta Tau Alpha:

We have to admit, these chicks came with their A-game and took the crown. We witnessed some Deltas that were pissed about the Zetas receiving a standing ovation and ended up walking out on their performance… BUT the Deltas didn’t bring it like these girls did.

Check Out Some More Performances Below:

AKA’s TAU Chapter:

  • Daywalker(THE DAYDREAM!!!)

    Platinum!!!

  • drenk

why wouldnt it be right? if the judges thought they were the best then yes its right

  • othello

This is what happens when you sell out your culture to corporate sponsorship.

  • Somali Ninga

    @ othello
LOL coca cola/sprite are the devil!!!

  • I Am Legend

I know some lil girls in the hood who can step better than all these brawds

  • tracy

Who cares!!! My boyfriend thinks the same with me. He- is eight years older than me, lol. We met online at- Agemingle @ co–m a nice and free site for Younger- Women and Older Men, or Older Women and Younger Men, to- interact with each other. Maybe you wanna check out or- tell your friends.

  • Bombaclot

    Yo RAs! That was hot!

  • jesus

dem hoes were trash, divine 9 musts trashed it hard…smh

  • Bombaclot

    @Daywalker

Jeezus criminy! If that is your women in your gravi I wouldn’t leave the house!

  • Chief Hater

This OKAY! Nothing original and it doesn’t look natural. After a while I found it boring! A black person HAD to have taught them these steps and worked with them for MONTHS!
The other teams must have been GARBAGE!
How come they like to enter our contests and use our steps and then STAB US IN THE BACK!

  • Bombaclot

This format really sticks it to the c.ock su.ckers that like to say “First!”.

Now first is last and last is first. Lol!

  • I Am Legend

This thread will become why white women try 2 be black and win “black awards” and why black women are ( insert Bullshyt here)

  • ThatBKChick

I can’t even front, being Greek myself…these white chicks, plus one random black chick or two “broke it down”…however, they did get schooled by someone black….a lot of their moves were signature moves from the Q’s, Kappas and others from the Noble Nine….SMDH!!! Becky’s Unite!!!! It’s all good Greek Love I guess?

  • peaches

Oh please!!!! They were good, but not all that to win!!!! I didn’t see nothing outstanding in their act. If they were a black group doing those movements they would have been considered AVERAGE!!! If they were the best then the other acts must have been fair. They always try to act like us in events like this, copy our style, use our music and then act like they are so into our culture!!! They certanily were NOT worth the money that they won!!!!!

  • cruzan trini

I guess this is how white folks felt when Tiger Woods started playing golf… slightly cheated.

  • lovlylizzy

Good for them. What pisses me off about sororities is that even with that $100,000, they will still charge their members dues. I think they should use that money, and make it free to join the sorority. JMO. But they were good.

  • Chief Hater

    @I am Legend
Don’t start no trouble. You know that they steal from black culture and degrade it all in the same breath.
Not to say black people don’t do degrading stuff as well. Just sayin!

  • PHE

I am sorry, but those white girls kicked ass!!! Never judge a book by it’s Cover!!! THEY ROCKED IT!!! I don’t know what the hell those Delta’s were doing, they were all over the place!!!

  • funny gal

Um…since when being light skinned was white? I saw about 3…

  • Charvon83

there is a first time for everything

  • Bombaclot

The AKA’s was recycled Bulchevek. The Deltas were all the way wack.

    Betty’s brought it.

  • Anonymous

They only won because people were shocked that white girls could half way step. They acted all shocked and amazed at steps that black women were doing all.the.time.

  • BLACK MEN ARE S***

I DONT SEE A PROBLEM THEY HAD THE BEST MOVES GOOD FOR THEM!!

  • LaDiva

Hey if they were the best then they deserve the title, regardless of their complexion…

  • Mrs. Rance

Black folks are getting completely out of pocket. Thinking they can discriminate against folks. If you freakin want to win then do a better job. Don’t hate because the people that did better than you are not black. Bring your A game. Do you really want things handed to you just because your black?

  • http://perryone779@yahoo,com a rose by any other name # 9304026339482056536 ™

You know damn well all the white people that have any kind of moves get schooled by a black person,, stop selling out your culture black people.. you know they take every GD thing we do from back in times to make it for them and then they win the top prize.. thats crazy!! Stop selling out .. keep something to your damn selves!!!!

  • http://perryone779@yahoo,com a rose by any other name # 9304026339482056536 ™

Not me falling for the race battling.. i said my piece and im out.. smdh!!! fu-k it!!

  • LaDiva

    @ Gimmeabreak78

Lol that is the drill…and some always take the bait…

  • MsFit

If you’ve ever witnessed any of these contests in person, this was pretty lame! They didn’t really do anything spectacular and their steps were sub par.

I think it was their outfits (matrix-like) and the fact that they were white. It seems some in the audience thought they just witnessed a miracle…how sad!

  • Iamthenewblack

As far as precision stepping and formations go I think the AKA’s had it hands down, they just had no concept or gimmick. But when a white person or group of people attempt a black activity they just have to be adequate and we go apeshit. But a blackperson has to be extraordinary to enter golf, hockey, or speedskating. Crazy!!

  • http://perryone779@yahoo,com a rose by any other name # 9304026339482056536 ™

    Hey @peaches!!!

  • SolemnTruth

If you really understanding stepping and understand what gets you high scores you could win a show hands down every time without actually being the “best” team. Crowd appeal is one component of scoring and I am willing to believe Zeta Tau Alpha received a perfect score in that area (just because of the reaction from the crowd). The fact that they (ZTA) all look alike in appearance and body type if gives the “illusion” of higher levels of precision as well..and on and on..hats off the the ladies of ZTA they won fair and square

  • MsFit

  • Nadia

These girls deserve it…and i’m pro-blacker than anyone i know!….They pulled an ELVIS out their asses…but what’s funny is in the Nigerian culture some of their traditional dancing is straight stepping…..go figure!

  • Dontworrybehappy

“the sorority that won the $100,000 prize was not even black.” Why does stepping have to be a black thing?? You people are the most racist that love to call others racist every chance you get.

  • TheOriginalBlkBarbie

*Actually, I should have said that black people do it just as well if not better. I think I saw the majority of those moves in Stomp the Yard lol.

  • stupidgirllol

Too funny. N i g g a s always worried about hair, skin tone and stupid s h i t & these white girls came in with there creative azzes and blew all these self hatin n i g g a s out the box & got their education paid for!!!!

  • MS. SIPPI

They deserved it. It is obvious that they put a lot of time, energy, and effort into it. Though, I feel they did really perform it and by showing personality, they brought it. I bet most have dancing backgrounds, me being a dancer, I can say it is like an athlete and when you are performing everyone is your competitor and it this deep drive on the inside that tells you to work harder, do better. I love this kind of stuff. Those other girls were playing. The winners were thirsty and went beyond to make sure they were not outdone. Job well done..

  • Black Male

Those girls did they’re thing. Congrats!

  • hmm..

i thought they did a good job!! Us black women need to stop hatin’!! and recognize hard work and talent when they see it.

you guys are acting the same way “they” acted when tiger woods started winning all the golfing titles…smh!

  • Shay

The ZTAs did great,no doubt! They were precise and on point with everything.
The AKA’s probably lost because they were too busy trying to show their prettiness, like swinging their hair and the “pretty” chanting. They should have cut some of that out for this competition. Not only that, but they weren’t AS precise with the stepping as the ZTAs.

  • MS. SIPPI

I agree with Misfit.. They really weren’t a hard act to follow.. but the others did not really bring it. My words were misconscrewed.. I was trying to say that they did not really perform it.. and did not show any personality.. but they did do better than their opponents.

  • John D. Hater

I LOVE COOL A$$ WHITE CHICKS!!!

  • Anon

The AKAs and Delta were too busy fighting amongst themselves to focus on their practicing. Those White chicks practiced their routine and tore it up when it counted most… they deserved to win! Note to Black Sorors… learn to get along within your sorority then step out on stage as a cohesive unit!

  • JumpoFF

LMAO @ all the haters. I’m black and I think they killed it better than any of the Girls and dudes. There routine was longer they were more accurate with there steps and look like they work hard on there steps. Give props where it is due. cause truthfully yall cant come up with a reasonable answers as to why they should not win. Y’all response only comes out as hate. So quick to claim everything yall think unfair racist but yet slow to pick up your on your own racist ways.

Why can’t the black community keep somethings to themselves…It seems in every aspect of our community the white people try their best to infiltrate…No other race does this more than the white race…White people have a very bland culture and do not have a lot of substance like other nationalities; therefore, it seems like that want to conquer everyone else’s. People are always talking about how black people are always talking about race, hello, I think black people have a right to talk about race since black people have always gotten the short end of the stick while others benefit off of the black culture and most of the time take credit for it…Just because some blacks want to perserve somethings for the black culture doesn’t mean they are being prejudice…Out of the few cultural things white’s actually are credited to, they have no problem preserving it for the white culture and they are not as open and welcoming as people of color…All color, not just African American…

  • Wanda

After awhile it all look the same but they were the best. Give them credit.

  • hmm..

also let me add that those zeta tau girls STEPPED the WHOLE TIME, they got back to the fundamentals and let all that other s h i t behind. that the black sororities were doing…like swinging hair smh!!

The Deltas were much better. I didn’t see the white team doing anything like wat DST did with the car sequence. But leave it up to black women to hate on each other just enough to leave a clear path for the white girls. Im not saying the white girls can’t win Im just saying its ridic to give them extra points for being white. Had DST did the same exact thing people would have sighed and said whatever. SMH

  • H

Zeta’s killed it, Delta’s were pretty lame in my opinion, and I couldn’t even sit through the other ones. Step has no color apparently. Good job, ladies!

  • tj

And BTW there are so many ways for white sorors to get money they don’t need your self-hating help. Im not even being racist about the situation that was not the best routine and did not deserve to win def didn’t deserve all that hootin and hollerin. Disgusting.

  • Bdot

    Last!

  • mishmarsh123

I am honored at their fantastic representation of a long held black tradition…you ladies were excellent! well deserved congrats!!!

  • H

And I agree with what JumpoFF said. :]

  • Bdot

Look. JUST LIKE white people love to cater to a negro that exhibits what they consider to be UNCHARATERSITIC INTELLIGENCE of a negro…

…black people love to cater to white people that exhibit what we consider to be UNCHARACTERSTIC ATHLETICISM of a caucasian.

The sh-t really isn’t that complicated, if you think about it for a minute. We do the same thing when a white boy balls with a lil funk in his game or raps “like a brotha”, etc..

  • chaka1

    NO
    They
    Did
    NOT!!!!

These Beckys are not playin with ya’ll!

    That was hot…

  • Candy

Gosh! can’t we negros have something to ourselves , I know a sellout taught them those steps, probably took them years to learn that routine.

  • http://bossip Keep it Real

Dam, first they take the men now they’re taking steping and booty shaking. What is the world coming to? :)

  • Comment Section Format ROCKS!

I love this format! So sick of dumba.s.s.es w/ “first, platinum” bull!

  • Smooth

You’re right. The Deltas didn’t bring it. They mostly relied on good music and theatrics. The WG’s were really steppin their butt off.

No matter who taught them…they exectuted.

  • Miss Ace

Being Greek everyone was very good and did there thing. Way to go to all participants. and Congrats to the winners!

  • G. Cash

What people need to know about ZTA at the University of Arkansas is that these girls always play to win. Being from that area and knowing what’s up on “The Hill”, ZTA is a Pan sorority that always been known as the “cheerleaders/danceteam” sorority. This comes natural for them. But I do know alot of the NPHC orgs were saaaaaaaaalty when they announced it at the step show. We thought it was funny, because they brought it and nobody else didn’t.

  • DaJournalist

Hands DOWN. THey killed that! I don’t care what nobody say. Give them girls the credit they deserve. Breakin barriers work both ways. MERKED it. Period.

  • Honest Truth

The ZTA steps were basic…now if a black greek org did those exact same routines they would not have placed. period. the MTV show has made this competition false and rigged… when you have contractual agreements there is nothing that can be done but to fulfill them and thats what Sprite did. they sold out all the teams they had been promoting through posters, advertisements and commercials from the beginning.

  • John

    @Day

That’s how you find stuff out…Now to answer yours: That picture was taken during the summer last year, and as you can see, her azz tanned up real nice when I took her to hit the beach in Miami…Thanks for asking!! LOL!!
    ====================================

The question about Africa was a joke just sarcasm but you made a tan the reason why her shade look darker dawg. It is impossible to tan that much during a vacation. The girl you had up last week look mixed close to latin, almost like JLo shade. This girl you got in yo avatar now look brown skin, look at the brown spot on her elbow. I see what is going on. I got sense but Ill play along with ya.

  • Ms On Lock

Affirmative action at it’s finest. lol

  • roc city chic

race aside them white chicks killed it. They was they best. I think that the othere assumed that they was going to win based on race and them white girls showed them out.

  • http://thewidefocus.wordpress.com/2010/02/22/white-sorority-wins-2010-sprite-step-off/ White sorority wins 2010 Sprite Step off « A Collective Order

[...] check out the other greeks performances here [...]

  • DaJournalist

But for the black sororities, I will say, they spend a lot of time being cute individually, with less focus on the organization as a GROUP. Too much hair and flair. The white girls had a crisp, clean routine. Less the vulgarity… less the theatrics and beyonce weave tossing. KUDOS ladies. KUDOS>

  • BALLS-DEEP

Can you answer this question? How do these black organizations say they are greek? How? Why?

  • ISIDINGO

The judge panel were seems to look like it was very diverse. IF the judges thought that they were good then It is Fair. The Black Greeks should have brought their A games. They are so complacent that they were going to get it. I bet you NEXT year competition will be FIRE. THey were embrassed and they are not going to take that lying down next year. From waht i see everyone else were sloppy and These white girls did the dang thing and were rewarded for it. We invented alot of things but we take it for granted and others come along and learn it and then do it better. We have done it to others. They invented stuff and we have come along and we do it better. Basketball, Tennis, etc. So why can’t they. There are tons of great Jazz artist that are white. We invented That.

  • PRISSYBouJIE!!!!

I Can admit that they went hard but the AKA’s were better they had an essence that the ZTA’s could never emulate!!!! THE AKA TAU CHAPTER SHOULD HAVE WON!!!!

  • Caramel Cat

This is not new, I’ve seen white sororities and fraternities step at schools down south on many occasions. I attended a school in the Midwest and they did not want to accept this stuff. The white fraternities and sororites were trying to be a part of the step competition for homecoming one year. One of the NPHC members actually stated that they would not welcome a ‘minstrel show’ with white sororities/fraternities attempting to mimic a black tradition. I don’t really know how to feel about it because I feel like they should be able to step if they want to, but it is a black tradition that many hold very sacred….

  • Stacey Dee

I am happy for them, competiton is competition, there have been many times a black person has won talent competitions at all white schools. They were AMAZING and deserved to win. Maybe the black girls will setp up their game and think out of the box next time.

  • Stacey Dee

    @Marquis de Sade
Your truly are a worm. It’s clear You really hate black women as much as I have zero respect for black men..maybe in another life..

  • simeon

Those chicks killed it. This is what black America wanted right? Fair and Unbiased competition. If it works one way, it has to work the other. Congratulations to them for winning. They put in the effort, and work necessary to take the title. Someone black taught ALL steppers, so I don’t get the context of that argument one bit. I don’t care what anyone says. Flattery is the greatest compliment one can receive.

  • Undacuvabrutha (Into the Swing of Things)

Well, affirmative action is in play. I’ve seen a Spanish sorority win at a stepshow as well. This group here should have been disqualified for all the move stealing they did. I swear I saw them emulate just about every black frat or soror. SMH!!

  • Caramel Cat

Not to jump in this convo between Daywalker and John but I will say this, I am Caramel complexioned. I can look really light or really brown depending on the shadows or lighting in a picture…And when I tan, I actually TAN big time! I know it wasn’t any of my business, but I thought I’d weight in……carry on :P

    P.S. Hey Day!

  • Unbiased Lady

Their steps seemed elementary although their theme was pretty cool. I don’t think they deserved to win after observing the other performances. Additionally, their performance became utterly boring after a while.

  • John

    @Caramel

Come on you a smart lady. The avatar up last week look completely different than the one now. It is no way you can tan so much that you look like another race. You know what is up lady. You just defending yo eboy. Sides the avatar that was up last week look like one I seen before on the internet.

  • Marquis de Sade

    Stacey Dee

Yeah, in another life, I was Thomas Jefferson, and you was my # 1 bedwarmer, SALLY HEMMINGS

  • Caramel Cat

    @John

I hear you, I’m just stating that it is very possible for skin tones to look a completely different ‘race’ depending on the lighting or shadows in the pictures. I’ve had pics where I actually looked dark brown and others where people ask me what I’m mixed with (???? lol)…I’m not trying to defend anyone, I just know how it is for people to pre-judge a complexion….

Sell-out taught them how to step.. now they used it to get ahead.. cant we have anything to ourselves.. stop teaching these people black things.. fu-k em!!

  • Daywalker(THE DAYDREAM!!!)

    @Caramel Cat:

Hi hun!! I was trying to tell this dude that my girl gets dark when she’s out in the sun, but some people are incapable of believing the truth, ma…Either, way, it is what it is, and I know that she does…

I see yo point. When you been called out before and I think I seen the pic from last week on the internet before myself so I know that it is different people. I was not born yesterday.

  • SteelCityChick

They look like they just doing one of Janet Jackson’s dance routines……….Not worth winning anything for.

  • chaka1

Notice the white girls didn’t have any fake hair and weave whipping around…now that’s funny…

  • http://www.popcultureshock.com Kayode Kendall

    @DaJournalist’s 11:38 comment:

I definitely agree. Especially the Deltas. They hardly did any real stepping, and what little stepping they did, wasn’t all that great.

People can talk about “this is part of black culture, and it’s all very sacred to black people” all they want, but at the end of the day, when you live in a country made up of several different races, nationalities, and ethnic backgrounds, to think that you can exclude people from aspects of your culture, especially something like Stepping, is a bit absurd. And should the day come when stepping becomes dominated by non-blacks, that’s no one’s fault but the black folks who didn’t fight for it. Stop making excuses for why this white team, or that non-black team beat ya, beyond the likelihood that this team or that team . . . . was just plain better at the particular competition.

  • Tamara

Look point blank is that they really were good. They got exactly what they put in their performance. Congrads ladies

they were outstanding and they should have won. They were on point with every move. I was impressed. Remember, we dominate alot of their sports, Tiger Woods, Serena and Venus, so why not let them cross over to our world.

  • Sydney™ (Dorothy Height)

Hey Day, how are you? :)

I think there are a number of white kids who emulate “black culture,”or a certain subset of it, which is evidenced by the type of music a number of them buy (the buying audience for hip-hop artists is largely white, from what I understand — correct me if I’m wrong).

  • afrodite

half of the fact that they won was because they are white, let’s be real, and they are a novelty act. back in the day, black acts were a novelty to whites and now the tables have turned…

  • Unkle Ruckus

Step yo Greek game up, Negroes! Latinas and Whites are getting into the step game. You should be impressed that they choose our venue to challenge the best, but instead you hating on their color. Sounds like baseball all over again. Do you realize how stupid you sound because a different race was to participate in our reindeer games?

  • What is BOSSIP smoking

The DELTAS were soooo much better than the white girls. Deltas steps were complicated, soulful, and not repetetive…

  • Miss B

If their performance was better than others, then they earned their win.

If they won only b/c they are white participating is a historical black competition; then it is not fair.

  • Divine

Well I didn’t think they did the best. But it isn’t their fault they won.

It the NPHC (National Pan Hellenic Council) of the 9 black greek organizations that allowed them to participate.

ESPECIALLY when their greek system rarely selects black women to join their organization.

These girls were taught to step by AKAs who they them dissed and then beat.
That’s the AKAs fault and it OUR (NPHC) for being so apathetic and so non-chalant about OUR traditions that we allowed it to happen.
We (NPHC) greeks created the art of stepping.
    We didn’t protect it.
    Our bad.

  • nikki88

they were better, they won…whats the big deal?
    @drenk – good point.

  • niquie

    @ Chief Hater,othello,

    OKAY smh

  • niquie

when will we learn.Just like on the appollo we always give them big ups for being alright. Where is the history. Stepping is more than just stomping your feet to da beat. It has a deep hisorical and emotional meaning in the HBC and black student unity WTF why we keep forgeting who we are.

  • NeicieinATL

First of all, it’s not racist to think that they did not deserve it! This is OUR TRADITION! Really, how much more are WE going to have to give up to THEM????

AND about them being the best…. I truly they won because it was a novelty. White girls trying to bring it at a traditionally black event. Just a novelty yall, not about them being the best!

  • doboys

First off,you sisters that are complaing, get a life, we have always given look at who did the best regardless of color and now you want to be mad, delta’s and everyone else that was in it need to go home and bring it next year we don’t give awards because of who you are. It is going to be goooood next year.

  • Dizzle

I’m surprised no one bust a cap up in there.

  • Ms. Slick

It’s such a shame to see comments like “blk ppl must have taught them these moves” and ish about them entering “our” contest and “stabbing us in the back”. That’s total bullish, and you guys that feel like that are haters. Whether taught by blacks or not, these girls had the drive, the SWAG, AND the energy it took to beat the other frats/sors fair and square. They did the hard work, and it showed throughout their performance. Maybe if the other teams had come with a higher energy level and practiced more for cleaner formations, they may have taken the prize. GO ZTA!!!!

  • BeautyQueen

They left out the part where The entire crowd boo’d when they won. And that every step they did went undr thier legs can u say boring. Clearly th AKAs should have won! I only hope that no othe black greek organizations decide to participate in Sprite STP-OFF agian.

  • ikeepit100!

How in the hell can you be a “BLACK greek”??? Nicca’s fall for anything.

  • Toi

I was at the sprite step off finale competition, and also attended the Chicago semi finals. Both times the judging was suspect, and the judges were underqualified. After the outcome of this i can honestly say I will no longer support sprite, and am disappointed at the blantant exploitation of NPHC organizations. Zeta Tau Alpha was one of the Orgs chronicled on the MTV2 show and were qouted bragging about the fact that a black sorority taught them there moves and “perfected it”. I witnessed NOTHING original from there preformance, it was an absolute mockery of NPHC sorority steps, and black “booty shaking” The judges had no knowlegde of step techniques (monica, chilli). The crowds intial shock was probably confused to the judges as excitement, in actuality it was shock!. I sat near 3 NPHC National presidents, and they all walked out in disdain when the results were read. Sprite used ads only showing NPHC Members, marketed to black communities, selling out every arena. and the outcome is this. I will not be supported season 2, and i hope african americans yet again learn a lesson, about sharing our culture, values, and traditions lovingly with those with the intent to stab us in the back….

  • Michael

Stop Hatin on the White Girls. They did their thing. Not to mention, wern’t all the people in the audience black? They were the ones that won it for them because they were cheering so hard.

Plus, don’t be mad, be flattered. Anonymousgirl especially. Plus, it’s really the asians who are taking over the dance game. Just look at ABDC. lol.

  • Divine

    HOLD UP…..
    These heffas hired a coach….
    Like cheerleaders do…

Black greeks don’t hire coaches!!! We teach ourselves! Who even has the money to do this!

I guess they do. Now they have even more….

  • EWebb

They were good but they were not entertaining. The show was boring but people were hype b/c they were white. This is just sad and I dont think that they were the best.

  • asmor

After a while it starts looking like the same moves over and over again..dunno, never really into Greek life. But damn, can we ever have anything of our own anymore?

  • ok

Why make it a race thing? Its a stepping competition not a being black competition. Get your biased stories out of here.

  • Miami chick

Honestly, there performance wasn’t that spectacular. Nothing original.

The first 40secs was a modern dance routine and the rest was the same stepping moves the Deltas, AKAs and Q’s and A Phi A’s have been doing since School Daze.

Hell, performed a routine similar to this back in 8th grade for drill team.

  • IDONTLIKEU

    NOW AIN’T THAT A B***H!!

  • fierce chili

well, afterall the frats and sorrors are under greek letters! it’s not like the brotherhoods and sisterhoods are named after one of the many languages and dialects of the motherland.

  • tj

Blacks have to be twice as good to win an all white contest. Whites have to be half to win an all black. SMH. It really was disgusting to see them going crazy “Oh my God approval of our artistic expression and half witted imitation. OMG”. If they had really been the best I would have no problem with them winning but it was gimmick. And all white sororities in Arkansas doing step shows…. I can’t. Glad I never went to an HBC what are they teaching those kids…

  • Real

What was NOT reported was the BOOING that took place by the entire audience when the AKAs were not announced as first..Sprite asking a Sorority to move to the back of the bus so that ZTA could sit in the front…Moving A Chapter of AKA from the front of the room at dinner so ZTA could have the first table..holding up the results so that ZTA could get dressed and camera ready on their time.. the fact that ZTA paid BIG money to have someone come from Cali and choreograph their show… they BEST team did NOT win, if any D9 org. would have done this exact same show they would not have placed.. What is sad is that in 2010 these girls were directly affected by racism/politics…No one is saying they did not step well but they were NOT the best!!

  • jt

wtf you guys are so racist is it right that a half black man became president? you guys are racist and then complain when others are racist

  • jt

wtf dude if you don’t like whites move to africa okay. you are are racist

  • No Justice No Peace

As a greek, I must commend them on their performance. It wasn’t perfect but it was eye-catching, coordinated and compelling.

Good for them…maybe the other groups need to step it up a bit next year (no pun intended).

  • NURSEJ

YEA, DEY DID GOOD. BUT I THINK ITS DISRESPECTFUL 4 WHITE FOLK 2 B STEPN, GIVEN D HISTORY OF STEPN. 1 OF D FEW THINGS DAT BLKS WERE ABLE 2 HOLD ON TO, WHEN STOLEN FROM OUR LAND OF ORIGIN. D WAY EVERYBODY JUMPD UP, DEY WAS GONNA GIV EM CREDIT JUS 4 KNOWING HOW 2 DANCE AND STEP. BUT DEY SHOULD HAV ENUFF RESPECT 2 NOT PARTICIPATE. AND IF DAT MAKES ME RACIST…I CAN GIV A FUK!

LMAO this is embarrassing black people in America are just happy for white people to take over everything you created. Music, dance…Black Americans need to stop being ok with white people always taking your sh*%..But the funniest part for me though was they weren’t even good…SMH. They were screaming from the jump for the white girls..Then you got the black girls with European weave..I am just saying/

  • DIVINE POODLE1922

I loved it! I WANNA HATE SO BADLY. BUT I CAN’T. STEPPING IS FOR EVERYBODY. AND WE ALL STEAL MOVES. I GARUANTEE THAT ZETA TAU ALPHAS MOVES WILL BE DUPLICATED BY THE DIVINE NINE IN ORDER TO WIN SOME MONEY LATER. THEY WILL JUST BE SLIGHTLY CHANGED. ALTHOUGH, IT IS MY FIRM BELIEF THAT THE BLACK ORGS NEED THE MONEY MORE, I KNOW THAT SPRITE COULDN’T KEEP “THE MAN” AS WE CALL IT FROM PERFORMING. SO, THEY WON FAIR AND SQUARE.

  • A.J.

Fact of the matter is… this group won because they are white and stood out from the group. It’s not that they did something that has never been done, but the crowd had never seen caucasian girls do the same things as BGLO’s (Black Greek Letter Organizations). As a member of one of these groups (Zeta Phi Beta), I believe that is the only reason they won: not because they had they executed the best routine, but because they’re caucasian.

  • jack

Oh they were the best. They probably won’t repeat but they were good!!! Step your game up literally.

  • Serotonin

“Then you got the black girls with European weave…” lololololol Priceless… But these days you WILL BE HARD PRESSED to find a Black female that does not wear WEAVE…

  • truth

the group did a dance twice as long. On step and put it together. the matix them was off the hook. Point blank period they came with there a game. It the eye of the tiger.
Next years delta better step there game up.

  • smartlittlelady

Stop hating folks! These girls did a great job & we should give them their props.

Racism is a two-sided street and we have to stop hating on others if we don’t want others to hate on us!

  • Sydney™ (Dorothy Height)

I’m going to introduce this post with the caveat that I’m not a member of any sorority (daughter of an AKA and a Kappa), but is it being correctly reported that a local AKA chapter taught this particular sorority how to step?

How could they steal something, if it was given to them?

Also, in regards to all the comments about the sisters and their “weaves,” I hope it’s common knowledge that not every sista with hair past her shoulders had to buy it. Contrary to popular belief, we can grow our own hair. Scroll through the pages of history, and you’ll see black women with hair of varying lengths. And do not automatically assume that every non-black women with flowing tresses hasn’t had some “enhancements,” which have become increasingly popular. SMH.

  • the sane one

well they ripped it. deltas were whack. looks like they deserved it.

  • dreamer40

congrats to these ladies…the aka’s at their school admittedly taught them how to step 16 years ago at their school, u. arkansas main campus. I could see being angry if they had learned it say 3-5 years ago, but please these girls stole nothing in that they let the moves marinate for over 15 years!!!

  • Jewels

It’s not a matter of whether they can step. It’s a matter of tradition, where stepping originated, and part of the African American heritage. It is wrong in my opinion because they sorority has not history to which it was founded.

  • Fab.

    Anon

The AKAs and Delta were too busy fighting amongst themselves to focus on their practicing. Those White chicks practiced their routine and tore it up when it counted most… they deserved to win! Note to Black Sorors… learn to get along within your sorority then step out on stage as a cohesive unit!

    _____________________

The story mentions the zetas and the deltas disagreeing… not the AKAs and the deltas. And how are they gonna fight amongst each other when they attend diff schools?? Like, what are u talking about

  • STFUROFLMBAO

Oh please people,STOP with the crying. Those white girls didn’t steal anything. We,Black folks have created our own demise. When it comes to the BGLOS,for example

    1. Black “GREEKS”!! Puh-lease,after we struggled so much to go to college, created our own colleges,we wanted so bad to be like the white folks and created more division and classism in the black community. Folks,Greeks are not black and I doubt if they wanna be.

    2. Exclusion. Particularly the AKAs, had a history of only selecting a certain look of black women. They try to deny it now,but it has been proven.

3.Many AKAs,just like the ones in the competition,in the past and now, seem to try to emulate white girls or whiteness. Swinging the hair, talking really high and nasally (when chanting),etc…Notice many of them try to emulate society’s/the media’s view of a “bougie”,rich high class, white girl and sometimes the snobby white girl.
Even now you still have most of the light and biracial girls with less black features, rushing AKA(most of them).

  • MiMi08

Yes the Beckys definitely killed it. But, I love my OH-so-pretty sorors!!!!! That was a SERIOUS MATTER!

  • BritBrit

Just because someone is white or black doesn’t give them any more or less reason to do something they enjoy doing. Who says what’s right and wrong? Certainly not you people who are posting hateful things on here. You should be ashamed. Work on yourselves before judging others. They practiced, entered and won. Period. They worked hours on end just like everyone else who entered the competition. They won, get over it and grow up.

  • dreamer40

another thing to consider too is that ZTA got $100,000 versus the other $900,000 in scholarships that collectively went to competing black and latino/a greek teams who made semifinals, quarterfinals etc. The total prize pool as per the Stepoff website boasts over $1 million in prizes, so do the math and BGLO’s in the end got more of something much more tangible!!!

  • john

I think it was the matrix outfits, it adds a certain flair to their performance…naw, but on the real they put it down, you can’t hate on that.

I wouldn’t be surprised if “Becky Phi Becky” was helped out by Sprite in order to succeed…

I’m dead serious!!! You know how much attention this competition is gonna get NEXT year… SMMFH

EXCELLENT marketing if you ask me and I wouldn’t put it past them (*Sprite)…

    I don’t know, it’s just a thought…
    *shrugs shoulders*

If it has you speaking their name and it’s on your mind then the marketing tactic worked!!!

  • DenialRiver

It was straight but there was some “Eminem” effect happening there… People were excited because they were good AND white.

Congrats to them, but if non-blacks want to show up for dessert, we need to demand that they start showing up for the main course too.

    I.e., if you want to:
~join in historically black step shows
~run around using black colloquialism and slang
~envelop yourself in black folks when there’s fun to be had…

    Then you need to:
~be there in the Corporate offices when it comes time to make workplaces more diverse
~be on the picket/protest lines when black people are demonstrating
~step up to speak when black people are being wronged politically and financially

I got no problem with non-blacks participating in “black events” but I do have a problem if they graduate and we can’t find them when we have the skills to move ahead and they’re sitting quietly in the executive offices at financial banks and Fortune 500 companies or they’re in the group of Venture Capitalists when talented, black entrepreneurs can’t get funding.

    Want dessert? Eat your vegetables.

I was at the step show and (I’m a Delta) I can’t hate..these girls shut it down…….the precision was on point!!!!!!!!!!!! But I was talking to one of my profytes and she told me that they were schooled by divine nine siters…..she was active on University of Arkansas’s campus when they were taught.

  • CheeChee

Not a hater, but an observation:

The white chicks did ok to me, but it’s always so interesting how when white people do things that blacks have been doing for years, all of a sudden it’s an anomaly and black folks go all crazy because ‘look at what white folks can do!’

However, when it’s the other way around, black people have to fight tooth and nail for even an OUNCE of recognition. See how all of this works?

Yeah ok, they won, so what. I’m not gonna go all crazy and say they were the ish.

    They were JUST ok…

And for them to win 100 thou for that?

LOL, ok…i agree with another commenter when they wrote about how black people sell themselves for corporate backing, so this was not surprising in the least.

There will be a “Stomp The Yard III: The Beckys”. Trust.

  • 1908girl

If these girls had an A+ show I would have given them their just do, but they didnt. It never ceases to amaze me, how we as Blk ppl will defend good ole’ massa, but we don’t defend one another (Willie Lynch anyone). Anyways they were uniformed, but there was no creativity, no difficulty. I have seen sixth grade step teams outstep ZTA, but because of privlege their medicore show won. If you saw the entire TAU girls show, u would have realized they should have won, not to mention when ZTA received the check they were met with BOOs. I can not believe we allowed this foolishness to go on, and I hope all NPHC organizations will boycott the Sprite step off cause this was sheer exploitation at its finest. By the way for all these “Blk ppl” calling one another racist people of color cannot be racist. Racism is a social institution constructed to keep power in the hands of those whom consider themselves “privileged” ie white folks. Now by all means we can be prejudice, but we can’t be racist.

  • Angel

Tell me this, if a Black organization did the EXACT SAME ROUTINE, would they have placed? Hell no. Everybody on here is like, “they shook their ass” they did “body rolls”. When Black orgs do it, its like “ok”. But since they r white its a big deal. Get the eff outta here.

  • JBowman1911

I got to say this… 1908girl quit hating. Man who cares if they are yellow, pink, blue or orange. It don’t matter. People want to be all analytical and philosophical. _______________________________________________

While it is true that many women these days are rocking weaves (not just BLACK women), there are plenty of black women that wear their own hair (as in born with it…NOT purchased). I myself do and I know a lot of black women that do. I can also almost guarantee that a couple of those black girls had real hair – and that a couple of those white girls had a few tracks in. Those white girls love those clip in extensions and you would almost never know. SMH.

  • 1908girl

JBowman1911 first of all I am not hating, I was just giving my opinion of the show- but excuse me. JBowman1911 I give props when someone does an extraordinary job, in my opinion they were mediocre if the Deltas, Zetas, or SgRhos would have put on a show I am PRETTY sure you would not be giving them kudos at all.

  • WTF

Am I the only one who thinks the bottom two teams were sharper and better? The Matrix team was creative but kinda of sloppy in their movements.

  • rachael_r22

WoW, theres HeLlA haters up on here.. since when do u gotta be black to know how to dance?? are black people the only ones that should be able to dance?? maybe we should start having black clubs seperate from the white ones – be jst like old times!!! That’s all niccas to is talk about what someone done took from them…daym shame tho, them girls are good

  • Rihanna’s sharp n witchy fingernails took the oath

their race has nothing to do with this comment, but I found them a tad repetitive.

a lil food for thought- if us black folks can join sororities/frats, which are caucasian origin then I don’t see why they can’t step.

  • rachael_r22

Rihanna… & JayDee, bout damn time someone up on here makes sum damn sense!!!

  • RipLady

I don’t care if the person who taught them was white or black. Zeta Tau Alpha did they damn thang out there. Give them props people. I’m just saying.

  • Horse.Head.Nebula

I never said that the were not good. .. I just said that they stole ‘stepping’. HIstorically only black frats and sororities step. that is what I meant….. but they were good.

  • Swats404

This is bullshit!! I was at the sprite step off and i must admit that the girls were good. However, they were Not better than the AKAs who placed 2nd. On top of that, all of the judges were non greek. WTF?! so i guess that i can go be a judge on So you think you can dance… I have no problem with them being white. To me, it comes down to who was best and the AKAs were better. I feel so sorry for them. They basically got cheated out of $100,000.

  • I’mJustSayin’

Junior high schoolers step better than those white girls!!!

And whomever taught them to step is an a**hole for GIVING our culture away and making it that much harder for the next Black Greeks to ever win. White people who are opposed to affirmative action and/or being governed by a Black president must be more tickled than a pig in s*it over another one of their ill-gotten victories.

  • prisseme

BULLSHIT! Stepping is orginated FOR us, BY us and once again and as always, white people STEAL OUR CULTURE SWAG! Blacks can’t have anything without white people copying or stealing! Stepping is what BLACK fraternities and sororities created at HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES because Blacks couldn’t attend white schools. This white girl sorority should NOT have even been permited to enter this contest. This is straight bullshit!

Why would Ryan Cameron have Monica and Chili judge and they didn’t attend college, they don’t understand the sweat and work that goes into pledging and stepping. Ryan Cameron should have found judges that are GREEK. whacked!

  • I’mJustSayin’

    @JayDee

‘Nuff rispec. There is nothing sad here, hon.
My point is that there are more subtle elements to stepping than just the steps. That’s what whites always miss the subtleties (sp). Loud call outs and VIBRANCY are part of the performance too. Those robots lacked all of that. They didn’t have swag, they were imitators and it was obvious. Maybe the Deltas could have came harder but that doesn’t add one thing to the Zetas’ performance. Despite, their Matrix move, it was still one-dimentional.

I agree with you on the fact that they did “good”. Not great. Not exceptional. Not worth $100,000. White privilege is still alive and bulldozing its way around. They won because they were white. Point blank, period. If they had been Black with that routine, they wouldn’t have even earned finalist status.

  • I’mJustSayin’

    “did good”

  • jack

The only reason people were clapping for them is because it’s unusual for white girls to step. There theme was nice and the girl stepping on a platform was tight, but I have seen those steps a thousand times and it was not original, but do to the competition it looks like they were one the top performers but the aka’s were good as well (I am def not an aka, delta, or sigma gamma rho)

Off course white girls know how to step the same moves are uses in cheer leading. TheY practice day in out for the that sport of course they going to practice even hard for this sport. So they did there thing looked at the male step tapes and mimic that shit. THEY PROBABLY WHAT STOMP THE YARD 100 TIMES.LOL….

  • BLACK GREEKS–STOP YOUTUBING YOUR SHYT–IT GETS JACKED!!

    also…THEY STEPPED LIKE ROBOTS…ABSOLUTELY NO SOUL. :/

  • Taylor Taylor

I think they were great I applaud their choreographer. Consider this: They weren’t forced to learn our culture they ask to be taught. I think it show great showmanship and the script flipped. Don’t U get It? The lip injections, the butt implants the constant tanning spa’s that subject them to skin cancer yet they desire so much to be brown like us that they mimic everything we do. For years they threw us lemons we made lemonade, Man it’s the sign of the times It’s Alright my sisters & brothers come on now!
We have our own sports but we took theirs and still we’re number one. Tiger shut um down in golf, So Don’t get it twisted accept it for what it’s worth. Now I don’t know how their parents feel about them winning A black Culture Step Off Contest, but I’m sure their proud they won the money. After all yall we are the most beautiful people in the world. Now! I have been to Brazil and the people are gorgeous, pretty much like us they like us come in a variety of all shades and colors. So the lesson here is they finally admit through their actions they want what we have. Sad thing though we didn’t make ourselves God did and if they want to be like us they have to talk to their Maker and I don’t think God will be to please to hear he made a mistake and complaints coming in from a mere mortal about ” We want a Remake ” LoL! Real talk!
Be That As It May Family,

    Take Care Of U 4 Me &
Say it Loud! ( IBAIP) I’m Black And I’m Proud!

    Aqua

  • Jlowe

So why did you reference that they were from Arkansas??? I’m from Arkansas and we’re finally getting some recognition…

  • Mz. Jae

Well, I go to a school were we always have a black history month step show and the white organizations (females) always win and it is because they can step. And at our school.. its a BLACK person who is teaching them how to step. Its about TALENT not RACE. They won the money fair, they tried our and participated like everyone else! I wish that people didnt see color!!

  • yas

I never comment but… One of the girls is actually Black. I know her, she’s as ‘high yellow’ as they come. She’s a great dancer and taught these girls well. It shouldn’t matter the color of their skin, these girls killed it imho.

  • chicken little

    No words.

  • yvonnjanae

From what I see, they were the best and the best deserves to win. But truth be told, today’s greeks don’t have the skills to compare to steppers from 15 or 20 years ago. These skits weren’t even as good as the ones in “School Daze”

  • nessanicole72

Those Zeta Tau Alphas threw down and y’all know it!!! Not sure where this step show took place at….but when I was a student at Augusta State back in 98/99 some Zeta Tau Alphas from Valdosta State came down to Augusta, GA and took home the trophy at the step show…these Zetas could be from that same line.

  • yuuup

they were holding a platform while a chick stepped on it. ain’t never seen that before…besides the the weave flippin and booty shakin, the beckys got off. i’m impressed, they were the best. they stepped for 8 min straight, no fillers. that’s work. they deserved it.

  • Tina

I think that everyone did wonderful……. stop being about blk and white … All the ladies rocked it hard… Great job ladies!!!!

  • sepiaesthetica

I understand people being upset. From what I understand, this this step team was using adopted signature steps borrowed from other organizations, a move that a BGLO would have never done, and that, some are saying, gave them a competitive edge.

I was sitting with an Italian [not Italian American] guy last night who is pissed that restaurateurs use Italian names but do not serve authentic Italian cuisine and a Spanish guy [not Latino, but from Spain] who was disgusted by the lack of authenticity in wine production in the United States.

We are living in a multicultural, globalized society. When one groups creates something fresh, someone else will borrow it, if even they don’t understand the rules of the same because they are culturally-specific.

I think as African Americans we become a bit more tender when this happens to us because so much has been taken from us already. But just because others can use and enjoy what we create, doesn’t mean that we have to lose anything by sharing. It still came from us and was produced by our historical circumstances.

What we NEED to make sure of though, it that history is written in a way that tells a true story and give credit to the people who deserve it.

  • Alpha

Those zetas dont deserve no win. We taught them all they moves and they aint got no swag. I heard one of they daddys work at walmarts and told sprite that if they didnt win walmart aint gonna carry sprite no more. We gon get them next year when daddy aint around to blackmail sprite.

  • EMO

Sorry. A lot of people on here are just hating.

Based on the clips that were shown on this
site, the ZTA girls won fair and square.
For those who made comments related to the
fact that the girls got their moves from the
HBCUs and/or must have had a minority trainer…DUH!!! Isn’t that what all step
teams do? They take old steps and reinvent
them. They have traditional steps that their
particular groups are known for so they always
include them in their programs. Most of the
time either a member of the step team or an outside coordinator is brought in to create or improve routines.

Plus, the other greek organizations were spending too much time on talking (which I hate
because most of the time nobody knows what you
are saying anyway unless you have an MC who speaks on a mic) and not enough time working out the steps.

    Face it:
Those ZTA girls worked hard and it paid off.

  • Sydney

@Othello…I agree with you 100%….everyone wants to be upset about them winning…Black Pple need to keep our culture to themselves…stop teaching everyone, everything….but you can’t blame pple for wanting to be like us…..Next time go harder…and win!

  • WT

Why do they have to be black? Make up your minds. Does color matter or not? You all are a bunch of racists!

  • chooch6899

Man, we got some “Ignant” racist black folks up in here!lol Drinkin all kinds of Hater-ade! It was a step show, not a zulu initiation ceremony. Any idiot can learn to step. The whole routine was tight, regardless of their color. They won on talent, not because it was a novelty. Thats like saying skater Shani Davis won gold because he is black in a sport usually domonated by whites; that Tiger is famous because he is a black golfer; Taht Grant Fuhr became the baddest hockey goalie of all time cuz he is black. Being jealous is not gonna bother these girls at all. And Kingsley, since all folks originated from Africa, those white girls gota right to it as well. You are writing in English, which is a language from a white country, instead of Swahili, yet I dont see people from England Salty at ya. Get a grip son. Stop the hate.

  • Sherri in St.Paul, MN

Wow. LOL – dem white girls killed them in the contest. Fck it, if you can bring it – then bring it. You have to win it, it’s not just handed to you cuz yo a.z.z. is BLACK!

  • Jelly

I find it interesting that people who have complained about discrimnation for centuries, always seem to jump at the first opportunity to discriminate against others. Just friggin interesting. Does anyone really believe in fairplay?

  • REAL

Reports have been leaving out the booing and the fact that sprite asked sororities to move to the back of the bus so ZTA could sit in the front, moving them from the front table at dinner for ZTA, ZTA paying BIG money to have their show choreographed… I can go on….

A stunned Ludacris had to re-iterate to the crowd that it was the judges who chose the winner, and minutes after the final announcement the judges were promptly ushered out as the crowd got unruly.

  • Kemo

It wasnt a blacks only competition so if a mixed race sorority wins, so what. With a $100 stacks at stake, you know you need to really bring it. Im sure some folks wanna say it was fixed, but im sure it wasnt. “Step you Game Up”

  • Voodoovixen

I have to admit, they performed well, but it seemed a lot like a fraternity routine. The women step differently because they don’t want to look the same as the guys. I don’t know if it would have had the same effect if they were a black group.

  • tanya

I didnt think the routine was that great…..(no race involved)…..I did like the intro and the outfits……it was kinda boring after that……i kinda liked the deltas stepping cause it was more energetic and not stiff…..but prolly because they were all different shapes and sizes is why it didnt look as much preceision tuned……

  • ARGirl

Really? Why does it have to be a black/white thing? Just cuz some white girls got out there and showed some black girls up OHH WELL!! Get the F*CK over it! You keep saying WE stole your stuff?! WTF do you think college came from?! Basketball, football, any any other sport? WE created that sh*t! So does it REALLY matter that some WHITE girls won? They did that SH*T and can’t NOBODY argue about that! OHH and for those asking yeah they are from Arkansas! That’s right to top if off some down south country girls did that! You talk about US being racists look at all of you who keep saying they won just because, they are white, and that is a black thing? How was iot fixed when the host, Emcee, and ALL of the judges were black? Guess they are racist too?

  • ChardeWelch

Daaaammmmnnn! Go Zeta! Im actually a black member of Zeta Tau Alpha so, Im proud of my fellow Zeta ladies! Go girls!

  • White Girl

    Some thoughts–
    1) The ZTA routine was excellent, and so were some other routines (AKA and DST.) I would not be able to choose among them for #1.

    2) I think that race/novelty may have played a role in the ZTA win, given that several groups performed at the same top level, but ZTA won.

    3) I doubt the ZTA’s were stealing routines or series of steps. Inspired by other groups? Absolutely. Did they borrow one or two moves? Sure, but who hasn’t? This chapter has been stepping for 15 years. Supposedly the AKAs at their school originally taught them, but I guarantee you this group is fully self-sufficient now.

    4) It’s patronizing to assume that no white students can step as well as black students. Maybe it’s surprising to see a white sorority join a step competition at all, but you had to assume they’d be good…do you really think they’d be bad if they knew they were the ONLY white group competing? They knew all attention would be on them.

    5) Though I’m happy that this event means stepping may become more open to people of different cultures, I sincerely hope that everyone learns and remembers the history of stepping as a distinct African and African-American tradition and that it grew out of being oppressed (by white people).

    6) It’s counterproductive and hurtful to denounce the ZTA win and to hate on white people stepping.

    7) However, it’s ignorant to yell at people doing #6 by saying things like, “complexion doesn’t matter, stop being racist” or “racism is over” or “this is the same as white people being upset if a black person becomes CEO.” No, it’s not the same. The history (and present…) is that whites oppress(ed) blacks. You can’t make analogies. Racism is FAR from over.

  • Lady

Dont be fooled . Yes the Zeta’s were the best , but just like all “talent” shows sometimes the best of the best are not chosen. I am pretty sure there were other Blk Greek teams that would outshine them, but were not chosen as finalists so that they would win. This is about marketing and money. Hollywood has been gleaning from the African American so subltly over the past 20 years because evrything we do sells , but they have to make it some of it palatable for the parents of the white youngsters. Look behind the curtain & go into the boardroom for the real winners.

  • classified

Black, White, who cares! I’m a proud stepping Soror of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and those girls won fair and square. The were the best out of all the teams. They were the bomb. Keep giving it to them Zeta Tau Alpha! Be proud of your sorority and keep stepping. Stepping is for everyone, to all the haters, let me see you go out there and step with as much energy for 8mins as those women did. They didn’t win because the were white, they won because they were the best. I call it how I see it! It kills me that sometimes we can be so racist, when it comes to somethings. Get over yourselves!!!

  • InnyVinny

Looks to me like they got their hands on a few step show tapes and worked it out. I saw steps particular to a few frats all up and through their performance.

I wouldn’t call it a spectacular show (I’ve seen WAY better), but they did a great job.

  • InnyVinny

    And GO @WhiteGirl!

The chapter’s been stepping for 15 years? Wow. I’m impressed.

  • jarinsings

you do black people love to hate, and than tell someone else to quit hating. My black people they won face it!!! they won because the came to win not because they are white doing black things. c’mon its 2010 stop being that stupid and racist!!!!!

  • life is hard

this is soooooo sad why cant we have our own stuff and its bad enough i heard that a black sorority showed them the steps!!!!!!!!

  • kingsley

thank you othello…. good point… When there is a corporate sponsored maraiachi contest ..I will be sure to put an all black mariachi band together… lol…

  • ann

I’ve graduated several years ago, from a non HBCU…..During my last year, some of the black fraternities/sororities became integrated with caucasian members. So I guess, this recent win, by ZTA, was yet to come, as well. It’s amazing seeing them step, as I recall the ZTA’s, at my school…..but to be honest….some of their members were really cool……I AM IN TOTAL AWE….WOW!!!!….”You’ve come a long way, baby”.

  • LadyDC

My question is….Is this the way we’d want to be treated??? What if an all black organization got involved in predominantly white competition and won? (History…and we’re still doing it). If the comments were anything like what has been said about this competition, we’d be screaming racism and injustice…calling up tv and radio stations demanding an apology and letting EVERYONE know the injustice, because it’s not how people should be treated. Those girls were good and I think they deserved to win. It’s sad to read posts and hear people upset because “this is a competition for us” …was basketball a game just for them? What about acting? Blacks have come through AND DOMINATED in so many aspects of life because real talent shines no matter the color of your skin. We ask to be treated as equals and respected so why not mean it and give it in return. These ladies of Zeta Tau Alpha have real talent, worked hard and it was recognized. The judges were well known and respected BLACK celebs… what’s the problem? Congrats ZTA! If others are upset, they’ll have to just come harder next year.

  • Dr. Sterling

The others took this for granted the Zetas won flat out. The Deltas was not on there A Game and what was the deal with those Tired Looking Outfits They Had On. I Agree The Moves Were From Frats But That’s What Happens When You Bring Your A Game you Have To Pull Out All Stops. Oh Yea, AKA Was Pretty Close.

  • BrownSugarC

Well now! I joined a white sorority on a white college campus. I used to laugh when my sisters danced. But there were some white girls at my school who could dance their behinds off. These must be their daughters.

These young lady came ready to compete. Their attire was great — looking like something a white girl would wear. They out did their competitionz1 That just how it was.

  • DCP2

Talk about double standards… would Coke have paid two prizes if two African American teams had been so close or been a scoring discrepancy (as they claim) There was an uproar in the fact that these girls are caucasian and were good enough to win. I for one blame nobody but Coke for being spineless and conceding to the few who did use the “Race Card” So guess I will be joining that large group of people who say boycott coke (and before you want to laugh…remember Rev King called on everyone to boycott coke too)

  • pleasebeware

You know what! Those white girls were HOT. They deserve whatever they won. They brought there A game. Why is it that we enter things and win. (like golf) it’s all good. But when the shoe is on the other foot and they win one of our events. It’s a problem. Can we say reverse racism.

  • jthono

I’m black and I’m glad those girls won. They tore it up. I always vote for something different or an underdog. Like to see races mingle together and getting into different things. They should be applauded.
People shouldn’t be jealous and not haters.

  • Peter D. Slaughter

Why don’t all these black greek, boule mason
types start to start to step back in the hood
among the poor black folks and stop the genocide
    of black america

  • it’s a guy thing!

    Nice…

  • http://nmwoodworks.com/life Bill in Detroit

Yeah … those white girls sho’ ’nuff got that natural rhythm. ;-)

Man, some of those riffs came straight from Riverdance … the scene where the guys in leather end up shouting NO!!!!

Wake up & smell the roses folks … so long as we think in terms of race (or this or that), the top 5% will continue to control the rest of us. End of discussion.

  • Khem

Black Greeks angry that white chicks won stepping contest.

the sorry-sororities are bougie black girls in sororities that they created because they could not get into the white ones, in the 1970′s AKA had a “paper bag rule” if you were darker than a brown paper bag, you could not get in.

Now these Ghetto-Victorian, HBCU’s which are hives of cutthroat masonic beehives have the nerve to complain about not winning a contest hosted by sprite?

Its about as cute as a Bentley in the project parking lot.

See, what happened is that black women fell for the feminist line, that you need a man like a fish needs a bicycle but as it turns out Gloria Steinem was paid by the CIA to break up the family, so now all these women have is a degree and a bouncy butt, which cancel each other out, and in about 5 years most of those white girls will marry and have families while the black girls will be successful business women but probably single and childless for the rest of their lives because what men are really attracted to is modesty and grace,

meanwhile we complain about women in the middle east who wear headscarves saying they are oppressed, oh really? the men over there will literally explode if one of their women is disrespected by accident.

All these years girls who pretend to be white got beat by white girls pretending to be the sold out corporate representation of black, fitting, they should win every year, and the years they dont win a Korean group should win

Just in case you didnt get the PDB,

Obama was your 30 pieces of silver, go back to your colleges which are funded by the Rockefeller Foundation which bankrolls our collective genocide, and Bill Gates who’s daddy sat on the board of planned parenthood which was created by Margaret Sanger who loved black people so much she called us weeds and advocated for a culture where we would exterminate ourselves by adopting all of the most destructive aspects of kings court culture, who would have thought it would be so successful to the point where singers run around with mock golden cups and the young children are exposed to sexual imagery so young that they never develop proper bonding which was perfected in the 1920′s

look up eugenics or stay in the dark

just in case somebody read that and wants to think im white or something, NO im a black female from Chicago and i have currently 4 family members who are AKA it is expected that I pledge it or nothing, and nothing is not an option so a pink and green prison awaits me. I hope those wasps win until that nuthouse on stony island closes its doors, i am not defined by dance moves, if you want to win contests, be original, and to be fair, the white girls weren’t all that good they just won because blackness in America is a fake corporate creation that requires constant updates, products and language packs, sometimes needs to be scanned for viruses which is why bill gates is ALL OVER US giving us vaccines to help lower the population

wake up now or not at all, white people, yall are next, black people are just the beta test

  • Latrina

Problem is, colored just can’t stand it when a white woman wins something. Especially the females.

  • honestjohn

I think a lot of votes because it was hottt to see women that were attractive instead of typical nappy haired hoes> and for all you who are mad that african keep having their culture stolen by whites well you can relax we will let you keep your raping and thieving and murdering and cannibalism and voo_doo and robbing and lying and well you get my drift

  • cgray

This isn’t complicated–sheboons aren’t human, they’re animals. Ugly, filthy, smelly, disgusting animals. Go back to Africa and rob their liquor stores for a change, you hideous beasts.

  • white debbil

When are you ni**gers gonna stop complaining every time something doesn’t go your way? You already get jobs and promotions over far more qualified whites/Asians. STFU.
