I work at the Compton Courthouse and If she shows up at the courthouse at 9am, She can go to the Self-Help Center and court staff will help her complete her divorce papers in an hour. She can serve him herself or have a delivery service serve him for about 75 to 100 dollars anywhere in the country. He can be served before lunchtime, sameday.

See, thats the problem with some of you that think the worst of AI. In court, if you dont have police reports, you cant claim domestic violence. You need evidence in court. Running you mouth about things that you cant prove mean nothing in court.

Ladies: The court system can be dangerous for you too. Once the court starts documenting things about you and your situation, it can be used against you in other legal proceedings. All court documents are Public Record. That means anyone can request your file & pay for copies, even your family in the future, grandchildren, great grandchildren, etc.So who is the smart one now? When I say that you are only hurting your family….I mean that even in the future.

I fully believe and understand that marriage takes work, commitment, compromise, understanding, loyalty, faithfulness, and of course, Love. I saw real marriages growing up and don’t buy into the fairy tale image the media tries to sale. And along the road of marriage there are bound to be bumps in the road, and the marriage should be built on a solid foundation, so that when the couple comes across the bump, they can get over it together-and in the end it makes them stronger.
However, if people rush into marriage not really understanding the work that it takes to make it successful, and especially not fully understanding one another, then it’s basically doomed. Sure they can go to counseling, therapy, and/or their Priest to fix their issues and begin healing, and hoopefully it works out and they can come to some sort of compromise

and work things out, but that is not always the case. By getting married without fully understanding one another, and essentially not knowing one another they may find out they are not the ideal pairing they had originally imagined they were, and so they must go their separate ways. Wishing each other luck and a great life (that’s what adults do), and if there are kids involved then their main priorities should be them and their well being, and come together to make mutual decisions about their children’s best interest.
Or at least that’s the way it should be…

The court doesn’t care about you or your family or you feelings or your families feelings. At the end of the day, If you sign those papers…you broke up the family….and in a hundred years, your relatives will only know that you did that. You, not him.

I can remember when Black women used to be Matriarchs of a huge family.We used to call her Big Mama. Big Mama was about 90yrs old, a Great Grandmother full of wisdom, with her 8kids, these were the grand parents and they were all still alive & full of love for the family, they all had kids too, they were the parents all with their kids too. The family reunion would be about 100 black folk or more…aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews…everybody listening to Big Momma tell stories about the family.

We are destroying our own family tree with this foolishness. Again, she wasn’t perfect, but AI made a commitment to his kids and he stood by her loud arsh. She cant do the same…not even for her own family.

I will answer your questions to the best of my ability, However, I dont believe in excuse makers, so if I seem a little harsh please dont take it personal. In Compton where I’m from, we have a lot of people blaming others for their own misfortune. I always say in success and failure, be able to look at yourself in the morning when you wash your face. After you wash your face, if you dont like the person who is looking at you in the mirror, its not the mirror’s fault…its the person that is looking back at you.

Great Great Grand Daddy was probably a rollin’ stone, but a true Matriarch is loved by all 100 plus family members for keeping the family together & setting a tradition of family. None of the women in the family can even bring themselves to Big Momma talking about divorce because they know she would say “We dont do divorce in this family. Work it out.” The problem with most young people is that they dont want to listen to the wise.

Theorius you need to read RJkeight’s post again, he is on point about Iverson. Very negative influence on the youth and we still have not recovered. We did not need that gang mentality image in basketball period. I too remember when he came in and changed the look. His wife probably wanted out before she got something worse than STDs. I’m sure he can have visitation, but sometimes staying with a mate and being miserable is even worse on the kids. There are a lot of kids out there who wish their parents had gone on and divorced. Iverson might have a lot to pay for, and that is out of our hands.

From my experience with the court, this situation happens more frequently with men who travel for a living. “When the cats away, the mice will play.” Then when the husband comes home there is some domestic altercations. If AI is smart, he will ask the court for DNA test on all 5 children. If any of the 5 do not belong to Mr. Iverson, his attorney would have a case for Mr. Iverson to be awarded full custody of all 5 children. See, the courts really dont care about Mrs. Iverson. She is misguided. The courts will not separate the children. Therefore, if he is awarded full custody, she will receive visitation and she will be required to pay about 300.00 per month per kid. She will receive spousal support for 1/2 time-served in the marriage, thats a little over 4yrs. Things could be looking up for AI if he doesn’t freak out, he does have a better chance to get the kids than she does.It should be very easy to prove a woman unfit who hasn’t taken one internet course or ever read a book to her kids in 8yrs. Maybe she has been on the couch playing playstation.
If AI’s Dad would have talked to him before the marriage, I’m sure that he would have told his son that this woman is lazy and not marriage material. Black women are not helping their own son’s by quitting on their father’s. These boy have no chance against these hoodrats without the influence of THEIR FATHERS in their lives, and black women know that. Just a theory.

U gotta think about it, u do have some women, such as Tawanna, who will remain faithful regardless of issues that may interfere with their relationship. She’s been down with Allen before he became big. They was only married 8.5 years, that’s not including how long they been dating. A b*tch can only hang in there for so long and look how many kids she have had. I don’t think she’s doing this outta spite at all.

My point is they go out looking for the no good brutha,the Bling Bling type, while the good brutha is called boring. I know that most black people find there selfs in bad relationships because they grew up in a broken family. But sister got to learn that the court system in most cases is not the right answer. This comes from listening to there girls friends on momma that don’t have nobody and is ALONE!!

Yeah I been in the army and I been all over the world to. Once your eyes are open to a lot of different cultures you do realize how a relationship should be, rather then the mess that we usually get here in the good ole USA.

I have so many friends bruthas who do not even live here in the US anymore and have successiful relationship overseas. Nice talking with you Theorius Stylez its good to see bruthas with a good head on his shoulder.

If I can help just one young man to just stop and think before he makes a decision that could ruin his life, than I am happy. Here in Compton, I’ll tell some of these thugs that I see to pull up their pants, go back to school and educate themselves. Some of them look at me and say “Get out of here Blud or kuz, you aint my daddy” However, the next day, if they see me, out the corner of my eye I will see them pullin’ those pants up. I dont say anything. I just smile. You see, many of these so called thugs aren’t thugs at all and they dont scare me.Many of these boys have been misguided by society and all of this rap-exploitation crap. They just really want to know that somebody in the world cares that they survive, and I do. I want them to make it in life, and they realize that this gangbanging crap is foolishness when they cant get a job. I encourage you to help to educate our lost bruthas. If we dont help them, who will?
